I want to start a building project next month but the price the engineer is quoting is giving me high blood pressure. I decided to bring it here let's have a look together and see if we are on the same page.

The proposed building is a five bedroom duplex and a void sitting room. Engineer's estimated 70M.

In order to make it easier for the QS.if I can have the floor plans.i can do an Estimated BOQ based on recent 5- bedroom duplex I have done before for the MEP services Free of charge.
And I will send it here.

Where then is the ideal position for DBs?

Ideally the best place to position your Db is your electrical or utility room. In the absence of this you would want to look out for a secure and not too open area... Although this fairly depends on the building architecture. Before Positioning your Db you must first answer this questions
1. Is it safe?
2. Can it be easily accessed? (for maintenance purposes)?
3. Is the position aesthetically acceptable?

I have noticed this old trend of electricians placing distribution boxes in kitchen, despite all the hazardous warning that comes with it.

Is it a case of not working with an electrical drawing or Ignorance?

Its actually ignorance.there are so many things that can go wrong in the kitchen.
And I also see some people placing DBs in escape stairwell (bad engineering practice)
