Tambuwal set to succeed Aliyu Wamakko

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Aminu Tambuwal is set to succeed Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko as the governor of Sokoto State on the platform of the All Progressive Congress, APC.

It was widely reported yesterday night that the Speaker had defected to the opposition APC, but the report was quickly refuted through a statement issued by the Speaker’s Special Adviser on media, Mallam Imam Imam, saying the Speaker had not defected, but consulting on his next step.

However, reports reaching DailyPost from the APC stakeholders meeting held yesterday in Sokoto suggests that Tambuwal has been endorsed by the governor and other stakeholders in the state to be the next governor of the state.
Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, the state Governor, had hinted at the meeting of this endorsement when he said ““I want to inform all stakeholders of the APC gathered here that Tambuwal has been with us since formation of our great party. We told him to remain in PDP until the day of nomination of the party’s governorship candidate. And today is the day,”

Tambuwal had been touted as a potential presidential aspirant, but sources say he held back on that to settle for the governorship race in Sokoto because many of the party stalwarts like Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, have given their support to General Muhammadu Buhari as the APC presidential candidate.

Although, the Sokoto stakeholders’ meeting was not conclusive on the governorship candidate of the party, the position was however zoned to Tambuwal’s Sokoto South Senatorial District.

Mr. President sir, honestly when I listen to some of your statements too, I feel sad for Nigeria.

2015 is around the corner. Either we like it or not, the political atmosphere is already getting charged.
You will agree with me that for effective governance, a good and credible opposition is required. Today, PDP has unanimously presented President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
For me, this election will not be interesting if it iڪ a walkover. I believe a good fight for the number one office will bring everyone to his foot. The APC has not yet come up with its Presidential candidate. Among major contenders for the party's ticket, are former Head of State, General Mohammed Buhari and former vice-President Atiku Abubakar. I believe Speaker Aminu Tambuwal is also not uninterested in the job on the platform of APC. There are other contenders also

While not pre-empting that anyone will win the actual election, who do think or can you recommend to APC to present so as to give PDP a good fight? You may also recommend a formidable vice too.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday extolled the contributions of Bishop David Oyedepo, the Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, to the education of Nigerian children.

A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, said that Jonathan gave the eulogy in a congratulatory message to Oyedepo on his 60th birthday coming up on Sept. 27.

The president, according to Abati, stated that the cleric’s “massive accomplishments as a devoted servant of God’’ made his life worthy of celebration.

“I write on behalf of my family, the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to rejoice with you as you mark your milestone 60th birthday anniversary.

“Yours is, indeed, a life truly worthy of celebration. You have attained lofty heights not just as an accomplished selfless servant of God, but also in the committed service of community, country, and our common humanity.

“You have not only committed to giving your all in pursuit of the massively impactful propagation of the Word, you have also embraced the cause of providing quality education for our children.

“As the almighty God continues to bless you with robust health and many more years of happiness, uncommon accomplishment, and fulfilling service, It is my prayer that you will continue to partner with us in our quest to reposition Nigeria for peace, progress and prosperity,” the statement quoted him as saying.

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has named a 19-member transition committee that will organize a hitch-free handing over and inauguration of a new government in October 16, 2014.

The committee comprises of top functionaries of the present administration in the state and nominees of the Governor-elect, Mr Ayodele Fayose.

According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Olayinka Oyebode, the inaugural meeting of the committee holds in Ado-Ekiti on Monday.

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr Ganiyu Owolabi, is the Chairman of the committee, while the Permanent Secretary, Political and Economy Department, Barrister Bamidele Agbede, is the Secretary.

The Committee’s terms of reference include organisation of the handing over and swearing–in ceremony; preparation of a comprehensive list of all government assets and liabilities.

It will also interface with key MDAs on the programmes and projects of government.

Other members of the transition committee are the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Dapo Kolawole; Head of Service, Mr Bunmi Famosaya; Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Wale Fapounda; Special Adviser, Legislative and Allied Matters, Dapo Karounwi; Commissioner for Environment, Dr Eniola Ajayi; Special Adviser , Establishment Matters, Dayo Fadipe; Permanent Secretary, General Administration Department, Mr Alfred Ologuntoye; PS Government House and Protocol, Mr Akin Oso; PS, Ministry of Local Government, Mr Ayodeji Ajayi.

Others are the Director General of the Ayo Fayose Campaign Organisation, Dipo Anisulowo; former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Owoseni Ajayi; Dr (Mrs) Modupe Alade, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, Mr Kayode Oso, Mr wale Akomolafe, Mr Biodun Alasoluyi and Mr. Alade Sunday Olaseye.

Fayemi had, while receiving the Governor-Elect, Mr Fayose, in his office on June 23, given assurances that he would announce the composition of the transition committee after due consultations.
