darkola: Good day house... My Visa was APPROVED today,6.30am @ Window 8. God favoured me after my denial on 8th December 2014.... As i stood in front of the queue, I shivered when I sighted the lady who denied me then (she was in window 9 and still had that hard look). I silently prayed that she should be busy till I get interviewed someone ellse. HERE IS MY TRANSCRIPT...(not in perfect order pls, forgive me)
VO: Good Morning Me: Good morning
VO: Please pass me your application documents and put your right four fingers on the scanner. Me: Passed the docs and scanned. VO: So why are you going to the US? Me: For my masters degree program in Indiana University of Pennsylvania VO: Emmm... You are going for Occupational Safety and Health( reading from my I20), who will be sponsoring your studies? Me: My dad, my father VO: what does he do? Me: I told him where he works and also other businesses VO: typingggggggg...Do you have anyone in the US? Me: No I do not have any immediate family in the US. VO: but do you have any distant relative, cousin or uncle? Me: yes I do ( I guess he was looking at my DS160) VO: Where does he stay? Me: Alabama VO: Why did you choose this school? Me: Out of the schools I applied to, IUP is the most affordable ....He intercepted me(I had 2 oda points to give though) VO: oh tell me which other schools you applied to Me: Murray State Uni and Uni of Wisconsin, whitewater. (He nods his head)... In my mind I was like , do anything you want but don't return my passport to me).. VO: when did you finish your undergraduate program Me: University of Lagos VO: what year? Me: 2011 VO: So where do you work now? Me: Told him where I work and what we do (project management ... Couldn't mention Consulting sef) VO: pushes my I20 to me... You will be needing this at the port of entry. Pls go pick your passport on Friday. Do have a nice day Me: Thank you sir( I actually wanted to scream)
He didn't ask for any accompanying document. I believe this was by the grace and favour from God. However, I plead that people should rehearse their responses well cos some applicants before me were stuttering while responding. I thank the whole house and I wish everyone else the best as they go for their interviews. Its our month of GOODNEWS. Congratulations... Enjoy your stay in Obamaland Cheers!!! Cheers!!! Cheers!!! |

idmanzik: Visa approved in Abuja this morning.
I could not sleep last night...not sure i slept for up to an hour grin. Mom came to my room at 5:30am, we prayed together and she wished me well. Drove out of the house at 6am for the 7:30am interview. Had to stop by to pick a friend whose interview was same time as mine. We arrived at the embassy at 6:45am and were ushered in at 7:25am.
After all the formalities, at 8:20am interview commenced...at this point, my heartbeat increased but after listening to a number of interviews i was more confident - I can't imagine while people seeking F-1 visa should go to the embassy without writing at least one standardized test. I listened to at least four student visa interviews and none of them wrote a standardized test and of course all got denied. At that point i knew I had greater chances of sealing it. Fast forward>>> the lady in counter 7 (wearing blue) kept issuing denial forms. It got to a point that a young girl had to excuse herself claiming she was pressed and needed to use the toilet all in a bid to avoid counter 7 grin. I was now praying that the counter 7 lady should not interview me since she has not issued any visa after 4 interviews. Then i changed my prayer point and said God, let whoever who will issue me visa interview me.
At 8:40am, i was called to counter 7. Below is the transcript:
Me: Hi, Good morning VO: Good morning
VO: Pass me your documents Me: I gave her my I-20, Sevis receipt, DS-160 and GTB receipt
VO: Where are you going to? Me: Montana State University
VO: Why Montana State University? Me: The department's curriculum aligns well with my intended course of study and their research area suits my career plan. The department also has a research laboratory
VO: Have you traveled out of Nigeria before? Me: Yes, i have been to United Arab Emirates twice
VO: What did you go there for? Me: Vacation
VO: Where do you work? Me: xyz company, a health care management consulting firm
VO: How long have you been working there? Me: 5 years
VO: What do you do there? Me: I work as a Data Analyst
VO: What will this degree do for you? Me: I intend to return to Nigeria to continue with my current job as i have been granted a study leave. I also expect the degree to further equip me to be a better Statistician and Data Analyst
At this point she was typing very fast
VO: So who is funding you? She was looking at my I-20 while asking Me: I got a full tuition waiver and stipend through Teaching Assistantship. However, my elder brother will provide me with monthly stipend. In addition, i have my own personal savings
She smiled
VO: Do you know Montana is very cold Me: Yes i know, i spoke to Prof. John a professor in the department who told me how extreme it can be
It now became a gist o
VO: Yes, it can be very cold. Same way Nigeria is always hot is the same way Montana is always cold. Me: I even check their weather on regular basis online and i can confirm that
VO: Don't buy your winter jacket in Nigeria. You will get them in Montana Me: I smiled because i knew it was a done deal Thank you for your advise ma'am
VO: Your visa has been approved...it will be ready for pick up before the end of the week at xyz...you cannot enter the United States before 30 days prior to resumption which means you can only arrive the US after 16th July... Me: Thank you! Thank you!
She return my I-20 form and the letter stating where i should pick up my passport. I turned back excited heading to the exit and did the "sign of the cross".
I give God all the glory. He is my Number 1. The gurus in the house have been my source of inspiration. Special thank you to Slimmy05 who assisted in paying my SEVIS fees. To my new found friend and brother, Innovativeame, God bless you plenty plenty - i owe you a lot. To bbdd, imperiouxx, Walspring, Bigfrancis21 and zeezahbee, your contributions on this thread have been valuable. Thank you!
Way forward for prospective applicants: 1. Confidence is KEY during the interview 2. Write at least one standardized test - if possible two (SAT & TOEFL; GRE & TOEFL; GMAT & TOEFL) or as demanded by your program 3. Follow the contributions on this thread 4. Pray, Fast and Let God take control of everything..
THANK YOU Congrats and enjoy your stay in Obamaland Cheers! Cheers!! Cheers!!! |

holakunle: Yes I have done that on the DS-160.
I am only having trouble changing the one on the appointment website The one and only way you can change that is by canceling your appointment and start afresh to insert a new ds160 code but if you have cancelled before, you stand a chance of losing the visa fee and pay for another visa fee |

benjaminiyke: First interview at Abuja... I just finished my first degree and my statement of result was not ready. So I filled in my Ds-160 that I was still a student. VO- why did you choose this uni? Me- this university has an excellent school of pharmacy and is well equipped with outstanding laboratory facilities and currently housing the biggest pharmaceutical lab in texas, am also interested in d undergraduate research being conducted in the school of pharmacy. Vo- who is ur sponsor? Me -my uncle,my mothers brother. his a business man. VO- show me bank statements. Me- I showed him. Vo started typing and gave me my rejection letter. 2nd interview in same abuja. VO- why do u want to study pharmacy? Me- told him it's my dream course am very passionate about this course,am interested in drugs and how they function in d human body moreover pharmacy is in line with my first degree chemistry. VO- what will u do after u complete ur studies? Me- told him I will come back after my studies and establish a very lucrative pharmaceutical Business. VO- what kind of training will u undergo after ur studies? Me- I didn't get what me meant by training,I just told him first I will become a licensed pharmacist. He nodded his head. VO- show me your transcript. Me- I showed him my statement of result cause my original degree certificate was not ready,I just graduated last year. VO- okay, everything looks good to me. VO- who's your sponsor. Me- my uncle.my mothers brother. VO- show me his bank statement. Me- I gave it to him,and he took it to the VO who interviewed me in my first attempt and when he came back he started typing very fast, after typing he told me am sorry, you just graduated, you can apply in the future. I believe just graduating is not the problem, because it shows am a serious student, he only used that as an excuse. And gave me the 214 something tells me it's my funding, yearly expense is $30,000 and my bank statement is $45,000. Pharmacy is 4 years. Any suggestions? Pls For the VO to go and meet the 1st VO that interview you before means (s)he saw something concerning the bank statement and he went to the 1st VO to ask question and confirm.. Anyway never give up and take your time to refire back |
