Career / Masters In Information Systems VS Masters In Finance - Which Is Better? by WarHorse1(m): 11:36am On Nov 25, 2014
Fellow NLs,

Greetings. Please help make a decision.

Which will pay off better. The intention is to do an online degree in either Masters in Management Information Systems or MBA in Finance from a foreign University. Current background and work experience cover both - More in Information Systems (5years) but recently in financial planning (2 years).
Great Excel spreadsheet skills and database development with a strong love for developing automated spreadsheets/database for data tracking and operations management. Have a first degree in Business Administration too. However, I am finding financial modeling very interesting. Which ever, I need something that will guarantee me a good income.

All sincere responses will be highly appreciated please.

If I was in chris shoes, I will just keep quiet cause anything I say can and will be used against me. Never speak when angry. If you sue any one journalist, all others will joint and finish you so you regret the action. They know how to do it within the law.

Romance / Re: Some Very Silly Things Guys Should Stop Doing by WarHorse1(m): 8:43am On Sep 02, 2014
1. Staring at a lady's backside: 90% guys do this. They just can't help turning around whenever a female passes, just to check out her backside. Its very irritating and rude too. Guys pls stop it grin

Girls can start wearing hijab and full covers to the foot to conceal features now.

2.Calling a girl and saying "I just want to hear your voice": To me this is just dumb! And that's why that girl can never call you. She assumes you don't have a life. Guys, even if you're jobless at d moment, pls find sth to do even if its free, a hobby or volunteer work just to fill the time. Than to waste your time wanting to hear a girl's voice.

Interestingly, most girls who like serious relationships like this in a guy.

3. Thanking a lady for accepting their friend request on Facebook: As if they have won gold. Its so annoying and smacks of both desperation and lack of self worth. At worst, you should welcome the person and say that you're looking forward to knowing more about her. Not writing silly stuffs like "Baby thanks for accepting me as your friend".

If not that we are we are blacks, the whites do this a lot. whats wrong in being appreciative of being accepted.

5.Always wanting to please ladies: I'm not saying its bad to be a gentleman, its just that some guys take it too far. They go against their own morals and ethics just to please a lady. Come on! That she's not all smiles doesn't mean she's unhappy or worried. Some ladies just use these tactics to make you do what you shouldn't do.

If some ladies, then do it for the others.

6. Giving out large sums of money for sex: For God's sake guys, you won't die if you don't have sex. Stop acting as if your whole life depends on sex. Some guys would abandon their parents and siblings and be spending large on a girl who hasn't added nothing in his life save for the sex. Guys pls learn!

From God's standpoint this is fornication/adultery. small or large amount of money, as long as its for sex, its is BAAAAAAAAAAD.

Just go to these contemporary churches, and see fine babes with smooth skin. Most of them are even looking for good husbands. They are attracted to pastors much more than and other man. If you are married, you will find one woman prettier than your wife. It's not easy.

Let me tell you where the gap is. Most Nigerians have BlackBerry and android phones but do not know their usage. You can actually use your phones for small payments instead of withdrawing from the ATMs. Even if you do not have an account, mobile money is the alternative. Even gsm networks at involved in mobile money.
There's POS and you can even transfer from your account using the ATM to other accounts in the same bank or other banks, pay DSTV bills, buy recharge cards, pay PHCN bills etc.
When the charges were cancelled, I knew the idea behind cashless banking would fail fron inception. However, with the reintroduction, many will explore options that would save them from charges. Browse the sites of any Nigerian bank and you'll see all offer these facilities and most are for free or for far less charges.

You got a point there bro.
Business / Re: Is A Customer Always Right ? by WarHorse1(m): 11:08am On Aug 27, 2014
i just googles for the origin of the statement and wikipedia show this

"The customer is always right" is a motto or slogan which exhorts service staff to give a high priority to customer satisfaction. It was popularised by pioneering and successful retailers such as Harry Gordon Selfridge, John Wanamaker and Marshall Field. They advocated that customer complaints should be treated seriously so that they should not feel cheated or deceived. This attitude was novel and influential when misrepresentation was rife and caveat emptor (let the buyer beware) was a common legal maxim.[1] Variations include "le client n'a jamais tort" (the customer is never wrong) which was the slogan of hotelier César Ritz[2] who said, "If a diner complains about a dish or the wine, immediately remove it and replace it, no questions asked".[3] A variation frequently used in Germany is "der Kunde ist König", which can be translated with "customer is king".

However it was pointed out as early as 1914 that this view ignores that customers can be dishonest, have unrealistic expectations, and/or try to misuse a product in ways that void the guarantee and states "if we adopt the policy of admitting whatever claims the customer makes to be proper, and if we always settle them at face value, we shall be subjected to inevitable losses."[4] The work concluded "If the customer is made perfectly to understand what it means for him to be right, what right on his part is, then he can be depended on to be right if he is honest, and if he is dishonest, a little effort should result in catching him at it."[5] An article a year later by the same author addressed the caveat emptor aspect while raising many of the same points as the earlier piece.[6]"

heatmeup: so it should be free?

No my dear sister. Just affordable is ok. My suggestion? =N=20 or =N=25
That way, almost all of us with ATM will not mind to pay and the banks or whosoever will make more money. Its the economics of numbers. We are talking of an ATM population of over 60million, that is to count out children and rural dweller. If each makes an on-us ATM transaction, one a month, at =N=25 per transaction, it will yield a revenue of 1.5billion Naira a month.

Now lets assume that 75% of Nigerian will now use only their banks (Trust, we will now exploit our speculative motives to hold more money) that revenue will reduce to 975million Naira. Its the economics of numbers

milkymesh: Please help us sensitize them. A country obsessed with freebies. We want free browsing, free power(NEPA) Free freedom(we want freedom but dont want to fight for it. NIGERIANS, WE CAN ONLY HOLD PEOPLE RESPOSIBLE FOR SERVICES WE PAY FOR. Most people making noise don't even contribute to the profit of the bank that serves them. Pay in now withdraw now. If you withdraw more than two times in a m
onth from your saving account how can the bank do business with your money, especially with your little N30,000 in your account.
Thanks for your post.

I will forgive you because most likely, you are not an Economist. If you were, you would have know how the circular flow of money works and would know that even if I deposit 30k at 8am and withdraw at 9am in a particular day, the bank has made its money. If not, ask yourself, why are the banks not operating savings accounts as was 25-30 years ago? My answer is the circular flow of money back by modern technology. As soon as you withdraw, another depositor is replacing somewhere and sometime and the more this kind of demand-supply queuing behavior, the better for the banks. There is an equilibrating of deposits so predictable that banks can count on it and make investments.

And also, Nigerians in this case are not really asking for free ATM services. They are asking for something much affordable and that reflects the Nigerian problem. Just imagine, my bank is out of network. Then I have to go with whatever means , to another banks ATM (Stress Cost) and incur a 65naira Charge (Money cost) to get my deposit from an automated process.

Again, Economics. The wise thing would have been to reduce the charge so that it becomes more inelastic (Sorry, you may not understand that) more affordable to the many such that few or non will stick to their bank ATM. That way, the banks still make more money, if not much more.

heatmeup: and is 65 too much?

As an analyst, yes. The process is automated. or does it cost half a litter of fuel to process one on-us ATM transaction?
Business / Re: ATM Fee: CBN Lied To Us by WarHorse1(m): 9:43am On Aug 27, 2014
theking5: What is the problem with we Nigerians, do you know that each Atm machine costs about 5million naira, and count how many of it a bank has in all there branches, where do u think they will get money to service all d machines. 65 naira is not 2much for d service a month.

Before you start forming rich here, answer this question

65naira multiplies by the number of on-us-ATM with-drawer transactions in a month, what will it come to?

If there are 6410 of such transactions in a month on an ATM machine, in a year, the banks gets back its =N=5m. Now what is the useful life of an ATM machine? Also compared with the number of terminated staff, I don't see why they cannot continue as usual. They done a lot of cost shedding. They should now see their ATM as staff.

And for your notice, the fee is not because of cost of ATM machine. It is said to be for offsetting inter-switching and processing cost.

The original letter from the cbn was uploaded in the previous thread and I upload it again here for your information.

Like in football, everybody, to your club bank. We will know which bank satisfies its customers more in ATM service. Opportunity for banks to differential their ATM services. Maybe the following can help the differentiation

1. Cozy conditioned ATM facility

2. Sanitizer dispensers

3. Soft drinks vending machine

4. Shoe Shinning service at entrance (lol grin) I don out of suggestions

5. Mirrors for waiting ladies to make-up

so and so. That kind thin.

korel9: I don't know why Nigerians always want everything for free.
You have no idea how much we're charged here in the states for such transactions.

It is only when you pay for something that you can demand for continuous and effective running of such service. angry

Please answer these questions?

1. Do you know how much money banks make with our deposits?

2. Do you know that with the down-sizing of most banks, this service can be offered free?

3. Do you know that bank have obligation to give deposits at request from customers without charge?

Business / Re: CBN Reintroduces N65 Charges On Cash Withdrawals On ‘other Banks’ Atms by WarHorse1(m): 9:10am On Aug 14, 2014
This is stupid.

What the CBN is about to do is to make people hold more money than they should since chances of own bank being close by is slim. This will further limit money available for banks to carry out money creation activities.

Some nut-case has got authority.

Whe Jesus Christ was asked what will be the signs of the last days, he said the following:

There will be great earthquakes, and in one place after another food shortages and pestilences;+ and there will be fearful sights and from heaven great signs.

The Wordweb Dictionary has the following definitions for Pestilence

1. A serious (sometimes fatal) infection of rodents caused by Yersinia pestis and accidentally transmitted to humans by the bite of a flea that has bitten an infected animal

2. Any epidemic disease with a high death rate

3. A pernicious and malign influence that is hard to get rid of

Africa (by David Diop)

Africa, my Africa
Africa of proud warriors in ancestral savannahs
Africa of whom my grandmother sings
On the banks of the distant river
I have never known you
But your blood flows in my veins
Your beautiful black blood that irrigates the fields
The blood of your sweat
The sweat of your work
The work of your slavery
Africa, tell me Africa
Is this you, this back that is bent
This back that breaks
Under the weight of humiliation
This back trembling with red scars
And saying yes to the whip under the midday sun
But a grave voice answers me
Impetuous child that tree, young and strong
That tree over there
Splendidly alone amidst white and faded flowers
That is your Africa springing up anew
Springing up patiently, obstinately
Whose fruit bit by bit acquires
The bitter taste of liberty.
