PoliticsCampaign Of Calumny Can’t Stop My Re-election – Gov. Oyetola by Warlord12(op): 4:11pm On May 15, 2022
Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun, has said that false and defamatory statements about him ahead of the July 16 Governorship Election would not stop his re-election.

Oyetola made the assertion at the N30 million fund raising programme organised by the Ebira Community on Sunday in Osogbo.

The governor, represented at the event by his Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, expressed confidence that with the support of the masses, “victory at the poll was his”.

He assured electorates that he would not betray their trust when re-elected, urging them not to allow those who lacked the basic knowledge of governance to deceive them.

He stressed that his love for the masses, passion for their welfare and the development of the state were some of the reasons people wanted his re-election.

The governor also said that his decision to seek for re-election was due to the confidence reposed in his administration by the electorate, who appreciated his meaningful contributions in the last three and half years.

Oyetola, who boasted of his achievements, said since the inception of his administration, he had embarked on series of developmental projects as well as prompt payment of salaries and pensions.

He said that the electorate, who massively elected him in 2018, could attest to his resounding achievements in the area of infrastructure, education, health care delivery, empowerment, social intervention and other critical areas of development.

The governor, however, urged members of the Ebira community to continue to live in peace with their host communities, adding that peaceful coexistence would bring stability and enhance national economic growth and development.

He noted that an atmosphere of peaceful coexistence and harmonious relationship between the government and the governed was needed for growth and development.

Oyetola appealed to people who have been registered but were yet to collect their Permanent Voter’s Cards to do so and support him at the poll to enable him consolidate on the achievements of the past years.

In his remarks, Mr Shaibu Abere, President of the Ebira community, commended the governor for his love for non-indigenes which had made the state remained peaceful without inter-tribal conflicts.

Abere said that their businesses had been thriving due to prompt payment of workers’ salaries as civil servants formed bulk of their customers.

He praised the governor for various developmental projects across the state, saying that they would continue to live peacefully with other tribes.

He also assured the governor of their support for his re-election.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of an award of excellence to the governor by the Ebira community in recognition of his good leadership style.

PoliticsJigawa: Governor, Deputy, Emir Shun Osinbajo’s Visit by Warlord12(op): 9:53am On May 15, 2022
In what appeared to be a planned motive behind giving Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo’s visit to Jigawa State a blanket blackout, all top government functionaries deserted the state.

On arrival, Prof. Osinbanjo (SAN) was received at the Dutse Airport by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Adamu Fanini; Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa, Alhaji Sani Aminu Gumel; party executives; state Assembly members, among others.

Osinbanjo was in Dutse to meet with Jigawa APC delegates for a consultative meeting ahead of the forthcoming presidential primary.

It was learnt that the inability of the Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar to welcome the VP might not be unconnected with his divergent political interest, as he is not in the same camp with the VP, despite both of them belonging to the ruling party.

During the closed- door consultative meeting with the delegates, the VP told them that politics should be seen as a tool for expanding frontiers of progress and development through constructive focus, commitment and hard work.

He said:” Let us modify our political culture in line with the present-time challenges. Let our polity be politics of inspirations conceived with innovative ideas and laudable issues that can bring about future political prospects for even development for our collective interest…”

Osinbajo said politics should be viewed as a vital tool for national cohesion and strengthening of national unity among the country’s divergent races.

He continued: “My reason for aspiring for the office of the President is to serve the Nigerian people. I have no other reason or objective except to serve…”

“After I have been in office as a vice president for seven years, I know that God did not give me that opportunity so that I would sit down somewhere and write the history of my service as vice president.

“God doesn’t give you a challenge without showing you how to solve them. I know all the efforts we are putting in place, especially led by President Muhammadu Buhari, we will see an end to insecurity in our country. In the next few years, we will definitely see progress in our country.

“There is a lot of hope. This country has everything that is necessary to be great: the talents, resources and we also have the men and women who are able to serve. I am very optimistic that all will be well with our country.”

Politics2023: I’ll Support Whoever Emerges PDP’s Presidential Candidate — Wike by Warlord12(op): 9:46am On May 15, 2022
The Rivers State Governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike, yesterday, said he would support whoever wins the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential primary elections holding on May 28 and 29, 2022.

Wike, a presidential aspirant, made this promised in Lagos at a Town Hall meeting with the PDP’s national delegates from the state.

The Rivers governor was accompanied to the meeting by the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, former governors of Cross River, Ekiti and Gombe states, Donald Duke, Ayo Fayose, and Aliu Dakwanbo, respectively. Also in entourage are former Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke, serving and former National Assembly members, among others.

According to the Rivers governor, he has never left PDP before and would never leave the PDP even if things were not going his way, stressing that God has used the party to make him what he is today.

While assuring that if voted into power, he would replicate his numerous landmark projects in Rivers State across the entire country, the presidential aspirant however, advised the delegates not to give their votes to those who betrayed the PDP and made it an opposition party in 2015.

He said: “Sometimes, I’m not happy but as a committed party member, I don’t have to leave the party and I will never leave the PDP. Even if I don’t win the primaries, I will support whoever wins.

“When they come to ask you for votes, ask them what happened in 2014/2015. Ask them why did they fight PDP. Today, we are struggling to get back power which you know is not easy to get but those that made the PDP opposition are the ones asking you to make them president.

“It’s your choice but I want to urge you to give support to those who will not leave the party for any reason. Don’t give power to those who will use the opportunity to even form new parties”

He boasted that he is the only person who has the capacity to wrestle power from the jaws of the ruling All Progressive Congress.

“Among all the presidential aspirants, I’m the only person who can win the election for the PDP. The only person the APC members are afraid of is me. They know me, they know what I can do and they are afraid”, he stated.

PoliticsTinubu: Presidency Requires Smartness, Not Fitness by Warlord12(op): 6:11pm On May 13, 2022
A presidential aspirant under the All Progressive Congress, Bola Tinubu has stated that qualifying to be president of Nigeria doesn’t require strength but intelligence and smartness to overcome the numerous problems bedevilling the country.

Tinubu stated this when he met with delegates of the APC ahead of the party primaries in Minna on Friday.

He said, “A President’s job is not to climb mountains, wrestle or carry concrete. It is to think and perform with his brain.

“We are not looking for WWE wrestling fighter. We are looking for a thinker to provide security for us.

“We are looking for a doer who will look at economic opportunities and turn it around to prosperity.”

He also stated that he knows what he is contesting for and what is required to become a president in a country like Nigeria, adding that he has a track record of transforming Lagos state which he intends to replicate in Nigeria.

“I know the road to prosperity, safety, clean environment, development of our nation and infrastructure because I have done it all in Lagos state and I can do it again,” the former Lagos State governor said.

He urged delegates to choose someone who has made other people who they are in Nigeria.

“Where is their track records? How many Councillors, local government Chairmen and chairperson, members of house of Assemblies, House of Representatives or Senators have they produced? I have produced them,” Tinubu boasted.

He also wondered why there were many people contesting for the presidential ticket of the APC adding that he wonders where they are running to.

Tinubu said, “Too many people running, running, running where are they running to? Some of them are running to sokoto, some to Suleja while some are running to Kontagora but am running for the Presidency of Nigeria.I don’t know where the others are running to.”

Politics2023 Presidency: Over 1500 PDP Delegates Attend Saraki’s Declaration (Pictures) by Warlord12(op): 7:08pm On May 12, 2022
Over 1500 Peoples Democratic Party delegates attended former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki’s official declaration for president today in Abuja.

At a Breakfast and Media Session titled, “Why I Am Running for President”, organised by Saraki Support Group in Abuja, the former Senate President said if elected, he will be President for all, and will represent a Nigerian identity that is truly diverse, inclusive, and truly Nigerian.

He also stated that he will be the bridge between the young and the old.

Saraki said he will also be the bridge between the private sector and the public sector.

“I will be the bridge between Muslims and Christians. I will be the bridge between the North and the South. because I am the Nigerian for all Nigerians,” he added.

Although he acknowledged the great efforts of all past leaders over the years, he, however, said as long as there is a child in Nigeria that cannot read or write, then the job is not done.

“And it is for this one child that I want to run for President because I will ensure that the law on compulsory basic education is enforced and quality of teaching improves in all public schools,” he said.

He acknowledged that the nation has experienced setbacks in the last couple of years that no one could have imagined possible only less than a decade ago, he said 2023, therefore, presents a great moment of decision for Nigerians.

“2023 presents the moment to choose hope over hopelessness; the moment to choose peace and security over fear and terror; the moment to choose unity and inclusion over division and exclusion; the moment that we draw a bold line in the sands of history and say, ‘no more’ and then move ahead as one people, as one nation, towards our God-assigned destiny as the greatest black nation on the face of the earth,” he added.

On his part, the chairman, Saraki Campaign Council, Prof. Iyorwuese Hagher, described the immediate-past Senate President as “a real change maker”, saying if elected as President in 2023, he will restore stability in Nigeria.

Hagher said Saraki will “give Nigerians, not the change from the top to the bottom, but the real change we wanted in 2015 to live in peace, pursue life, liberty, and happiness and be guaranteed security, prosperity and good health.”

He further noted that Saraki is loaded with political capital as a man who has integrity, courage, and the love of Nigeria.

Hagher said his integrity was a reason why coalitions of party men and women were supporting him.

He explained that the Bukola Saraki Campaign for the Presidency symbolises the age and social movement when Nigerians have been gravely disappointed with politicians who were elected because of where they were born, the language they spoke, and the way and what they worshiped.

Speaking further, he said: “In Bukola you are witnessing a social movement in Nigeria when, (I paraphrase Dr. Luther King Jr.) ‘Nigerians are ready to elect their President, Judged by the content of his/her political achievements and vision and not by his tribal origin, what language he speaks, and his faiths.'”

He further noted that in the past three months Saraki has been in 36 States of Nigeria either in person or through his Campaign Council to declare his intention to contest for the elective position of President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“His declaration in all the 36 States of Nigeria was well received and the PDP Members and the Nigerian citizens are already in a frenzy to see him win the Primaries to become the flag-bearer of his party the PDP,” he added.

PoliticsMike Igini: Extension Of Primaries Deadline Not Possible by Warlord12(op): 8:18pm On May 11, 2022
The Independent National Electoral Commission would continue to reject requests by political parties for the extension of deadline for the conduct of their primaries because it would contravene the timetable and schedule of activities for the general elections earlier released, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, Mike Igini, said on Wednesday.

Using the 2023 elections as a reference point, the Akwa Ibom REC said the commission had given ample time to parties to conduct their primaries based on the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2023 elections.

Igini who was responding to questions from journalists on why INEC was refusing the request of 18 political parties under the aegis of Inter-Party Advisory Council for changes in the electoral timetable and schedule of activities, maintained that the June 3 deadline was fixed and firm.

He said the dates were arrived at based on the provisions of Sections 76, 116,132, 178 of the constitution as well as the provision of Section 28 of the 2022 Electoral Act.

The chairman of IPAC, Yabagi
Sani, had appealed to INEC, to extend deadline for conduct of primary elections.

He had said that Sallah holiday, the forthcoming Ekiti and Osun States governorship elections and screening of an unprecedented large number of aspirants were issues that could hamper timely and strict compliance with the timetable.

But Igini however wondered “why some parties chose almost the last few days to the end of the month of May for these all important activities when they know that submission deadline is June 3, 2022.”

He lamented that within the broad outline of the timetable issued, parties have been making changes and sending letters almost everyday shifting dates, venues and time for the conduct of their primaries.

The REC said, “As disruptive as these changes to our internal workings, they are free to do so and these shifts have all been accommodated by the commission to the extent that our staff now work and in the field during weekends.

“They are at liberty to make these changes have been at huge cost to the commission that deployed staff to various states from Abuja and within states. By the time they arrive, they get messages of postponement even sometimes on the way to venues. All these have endured and accommodated within the framework of the electoral timetable published.

“The only request the commission has difficulty in accommodating is in respect of fundamental shift of dates of submission of names of candidates that emerged from primaries and conventions as contained in the fixed and firm timetable and schedule of activities.

“These dates are fixed and firmed as published and repeated severally in all interactions with political parties because they were arrived at based on the provisions of sections 76, 116,132, 178 of the constitution as well as the provision of section 28 of the 2022 Act. If I may observe and ask, why is it that political parties decided to leave out the whole of April that they should have commenced the conduct of primaries?

“Why is that some of these parties chose almost the last few days to the end of the month of May for these all important activities when they know that submission deadline is 3rd of June 2022 ? Haven’t they been hearing and reading the Chairman’s consistent refrain of constitutional and statutory timelines are “fixed and firmed” at all stakeholders meetings?

“Look, as I have said, changes of venues and time within the framework of already issued constitutional timetable by the commission, no problems and they have been doing that but a fundamental shift is what the commission has advised against to allow for certainty of timeline for the 2023 elections otherwise we will continue to shift and shift the timetable.”

CrimeIPOB Vows To Uproot Criminal Members, Unveils Sponsors by Warlord12(op): 3:40pm On May 11, 2022
The Indigenous People of Biafra said it has begun to uproot all cultists, criminal members and hoodlums causing mayhem in the South-East, particularly in Anambra and Abia states.

This is just as the group also unveiled the names of sponsors of the criminal elements in the region.

The group said the move became necessary as some people were destroying the region and blaming it on IPOB and Eastern Security Network operatives.

In a statement on Wednesday, the group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, urged the people of the South-East to provide accurate information about the cultists, hoodlums and dissidents operating in their area for immediate action.

Powerful said, “It is unacceptable to us for people destroying our region and claiming they are IPOB or ESN operatives, while in reality, they are not.

“Following the consistent moves to restore peace and sanity in the hands of cultists and criminals ravaging the region, we believe it is time we expose those sponsoring the criminals and their crimes.”

The Spokesman went on to list some chieftains, including a former governor of Abia State.

He also explained that IPOB cannot attack or kill anybody, because it is not part of its mandate, claiming that the “criminal elements” are doing so to demonise IPOB before the global community.

The group warned the dissidents to desist from doing so.

The statement read in part, “IPOB cannot attack or kill anybody because it’s not our mandate. We want the people to help provide us with accurate information about those cultists, hoodlums and dissidents operating in their area for immediate action.

“We enjoin people to be very discreet and watchful in providing their information because high profile individuals in the state sponsor these cultists and hoodlums in their desire to demonise IPOB and ESN. We have decided to sustain the fight against these criminals in the region.

“IPOB is a peaceful movement seeking freedom through internationally recognised civil disobedience and cannot allow cultists and political thugs to terrorise innocent citizens in the Biafra territory in order to discredit our heaven-ordained struggle for freedom and liberty.

“We will not allow that nonsense to continue anymore in our region. Those sponsors across the region, your days are numbered.”

PoliticsBuhari Has Taught Me All I Need To Govern A Place Like Nigeria- OSINBAJO by Warlord12(op): 11:38pm On May 10, 2022
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says President Muhammadu Buhari has taught him how to govern a complex and diverse country like Nigeria.

According to his spokesperson, Laolu Akande, he spoke on Tuesday when he visited the Palace of the Emir of Gombe, Abubakar Shehu Abubakar.

The visit, it is understood, was to canvass for votes from All Progressives Congress (APC) delegates ahead of the ruling party’s 2023 primary election.

Speaking on the occasion, Osinbajo, who recently joined the 2023 presidential race, said his experience as a vice-president, acting president and working with Buhari would be “extremely useful” in governance.

He said: “I have had the honour of serving under a transparent leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, who exposed me very diligently to all that there is to know about governing a complex and very diverse country such as ours.

“With the experience that God has given me and the exposure that I have had, including being acting President on occasions; if God enables me to become president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I think my experience, all I’ve learned, will be extremely useful.”

His comment further corroborates his earlier remark that he would build on the “legacies” of Buhari if elected.

Many Nigerians have been criticising Osinbajo due to the poor economic indices and widespread poverty experienced under Buhari, wondering what the future portends for the country should the Vice President toe the path taken by his boss.

Under Buhari, for instance, the unemployment rate has worsened. Nigeria’s unemployment rate has more than quadrupled since 2016 when the economy slipped into a recession. The country also recorded a second recession in 2020.

At least one in three Nigerians able and willing to work had no jobs in the fourth quarter of 2020, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Statistics also show that Nigeria’s unemployment rate rose to 33.3 per cent, translating to some 23.2 million people in 2020, the highest in at least 13 years.

Also, Hanke’s Annual Misery Index established that Nigerians were more miserable in 2021 than they were in 2020.

The report released in February 2022, in analysing 156 countries, showed that Nigeria went from 15th among the most miserable countries in the world’s ranking in 2020 to 11th in 2021.

Insecurity has also taken a worrisome dimension under Buhari despite promising to end the menace on several occasions.

The inflation rate has also been alarming with prices of food and other essential items rising almost on a daily basis.

In March, for instance, the consumer price index, which measures the rate of increase in the prices of goods and services, climbed to 15.92 per cent in March 2022, amid rising food and gas prices.

The figure represents the highest rate recorded since October 2021 — and 0.22 per cent points higher than the 15.7 per cent recorded in the previous month (February 2022).

PoliticsMixed Reactions Trail Fg’s Duty On Recharge Cards by Warlord12(op): 4:04pm On May 09, 2022
Mr Adebayo Adesina, President Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITAN), says the approval of five per cent exercise duty on telephone recharge cards by the Federal Government is more of an indirect tax.

Adesina said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos.

“This sort of taxes is factored in the purchase of a commodity, with the individual paying without been aware as much.

“The purpose is to boost government fiscal revenue, and a common practice in many advance countries,” Adesina said.

He noted that introducing these taxes would boost government fiscal revenue position, particularly in this era of declining revenue.

“While the people expect the government to be prudent and judiciously utilise the funds to provide public good.

“The authorities must begin to be more accountable to the people in order
to enhance trust and key into their policies with no objection,” he said.

However, Prof. Sherifdeen Tella, Head of Department of Economics, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun, said the new taxes on recharge cards was unnecessary.

“The introduction of the new taxes on recharge cards is not fair giving the economic condition of an average Nigerian.

“Nigerians have been dealing with soaring inflation and weak purchasing power and implementing this policy will exacerbate their woes,” he said.

He noted that the tiers of government should cut down the high cost of governance, so as to free funds rather than imposing taxes.

NAN reports that the Federal Government on May 5 approved the collection of five per cent as excise duty on telephone recharge cards and vouchers.

The charge is part of new items on the list of goods liable for excise duty on the Finance Act in the country.
Excise duty is a levy charged at the time of manufacturing.

It is also a form of indirect tax on the sale or consumption of certain goods and products.

EducationBREAKING: ASUU Ends Warning Action; May Begin Indefinite Strike by Warlord12(op): 6:13pm On May 08, 2022
As the second round of the eight-week warning strike embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, ends on Monday, the union is poised to go on an indefinite industrial action, Vanguard has gathered.

Sources said the national leadership of the union would make public its decision on Monday.

It was gathered that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the union had earlier given the go-ahead to the national leadership to call out members on indefinite strike if nothing tangible was achieved during the eight weeks of their warning strike.

The union had earlier gone on a month warning strike on February 14 this year, and extended it by another eight weeks which comes to an end on Monday, May 9, 2022.

While ASUU was into the second round of its warning strike, other staff unions in the university system also embarked on strike.

The unions are the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, the National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT, and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Allied Institutions, NASU.

Though the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, had met with the leadership of SSANU, NAAT, and NASU, nothing concrete came out of the meetings.

He is yet to meet with ASUU leadership, though he announced last weekend that he would meet with them.

When contacted, the National President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, said the union had not got an invitation from the government’s team as of the weekend.

“We too heard it in the news what the Minister of Labour said about meeting with us, but as we talk, nobody has reached out to us for any meeting. We don’t know when the meeting will be called. However, I think before going to the press to announce any proposed meeting, what ought to have been done is to inform us. Anyway, we are waiting for the meeting when it is called,” he said.

Asked what would be the next line of action, Osodeke said the national leadership of the union would decide that.

Speaking on the situation, the National President of the National Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria, NAPTAN, Alhaji Haruna Danjuma, expressed disgust with the continued closure of the universities.

“We cannot continue to waste the time of our children. They are staying much at home than in school now. It is unfortunate that we are yet to get over the issue of the closure of our higher institutions incessantly. That is a minus for the system. How do we expect foreigners to respect our certificates?

“Incidentally, it is not everybody that can afford to send their children abroad to study. We must make our education sector work and put an end to this rot. We plead with the government and the university workers to find a mid-course and resolve this issue and let academic activities resume in these institutions, ” he said.

In a chat with our correspondent, the National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Comrade Sunday Asefon, said the association would study the situation and react appropriately.

“We already have a plan of action in place regarding our demands for the reopening of the universities without further delay and we are keeping faith with that. However, if the strike is extended after the eight weeks of warning action, we will also react appropriately too.

“Nigeria students have wasted more than enough time at home doing nothing. With this current situation now, students have wasted time that is enough for them to finish a semester. We are tired of things like this,” he said.

Recall that NANS has said it would not allow any political party to hold its presidential convention in Abuja unless the universities are reopened.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, among other parties have fixed their conventions for Abuja.

ASUU has been on strike since February 14 this year, while non-teaching staff unions have also embarked on industrial action over a month ago.

Students from various tertiary institutions have been on street protests in Ibadan, Benin, Abuja and Lagos calling for an end to the strike and for universities to reopen.

Politics2023: Group Picks Nomination Form For Afdb President, Adesina by Warlord12(op): 11:38am On May 08, 2022
A coalition of groups, yesterday, purchased All Progressives Congress (APC) N100m Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and former Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, to contest for the 2023 presidency.

Sources close to the group told The Guardian that the pro- Adesina group would storm the party Secretariat today (Sunday) by noon to pick the form.

Party sources also disclosed that 27 presidential aspirants had paid for their nomination forms but 22 approached the secretariat to collect the forms, hoping that the remaining four aspirants, who were yet to collect their forms would show up by tomorrow (Monday) to do so.

Meanwhile, it was also gathered that President Muhammadu Buhari would soon meet some APC governors and party chieftains to show direction the primaries would go and possibly give a further clue on his preferred candidate.

A coalition of 28 groups that paid for Adesina’ s form included Youth Arise Movement; Nigerians in Diaspora One Nigeria Group; Prudent Youth Association of Nigeria; women groups, farmers, people with disabilities and other civil society groups.

They raised the N100m fee to purchase the forms for the former minister.

The coalition is led by the Head, One Nigeria Group, Mohammed Saleh.

The payment acknowledgement slip exclusively carried Adesina’s name as the recipient of the forms.

Although the last six weeks had seen many groups appealing to Adesina to throw his hat into the ring, but feelers from the AfDB boss during the week, did not support the recent development. He was said to have declined interest to join politics.

However, efforts to get his reactions to the yesterday’s development was not successful. The purchase of the form kept many guessing, if he had agreed to join the race or wanted to remain apolitical.

But some of his supporters, yesterday, claimed that the extension of closing date for APC nomination form to Monday instead of Friday, was to allow powerful groups in the presidency and the party to conclude their consultations with Adesina and convince him to join the race.

A source said: “The big masquerade has joined the race and the picture is getting clearer, even for the blind to see.”

The development is coming amid reports about the position of the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele about the form procured for him by his supporters to join the race.

But sources said some forces close to the President were mounting pressure on him to endorse a professional that could fix Nigeria’s economy as the best legacy for the country.

To this clique, the role played by World Bank Vice President, Prof. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala has been a reference point in the international community and Buhari should also hand over to professional of that nature to earn respect of the international community and put Nigeria’s economy on the path of quick recovery.

TravelFG Moves To Avert Looming Shutdown Of Airline Operations by Warlord12(op): 8:13am On May 08, 2022
Following the threat by Airline Operators of Nigeria, AON, to down tools tomorrow owing to the high cost of aviation fuel, the Federal Government has urged the union to give it time to explore means of resolving the challenge.

Minister of Aviation made the plea in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Public Affairs, James Odaudu.

The statement read: “The attention of the Honourable Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika has been drawn to reports that the nation’s air transportation system will be disrupted from Monday, May 9th, 2022, following threats by airline operators to shut down operations as a result of the rising cost of Jet A1, otherwise known as aviation fuel.

“As the Ministry charged with the management of the industry, we are greatly concerned about the difficulties being faced by the airline operators in the country in procuring aviation fuel which has resulted in spiralling costs in Air transportation in the immediate past.

“We also acknowledge that the airline operators are in the business to make profits while servicing the very critical sector that is not only the preferred mode of transport for most Nigerians but also the main international gateway to the nation.

“Unfortunately the issue of fuel supply is not within the purview of the Ministry and so the much it can do in the present situation is to engage with agencies, institutions and individuals in positions to provide succour to the airlines. This is already being done by the relevant team led by the Honourable Minister.

“While the efforts to assuage the situation are on, we wish to appeal to the airline operators, even in the difficult situation, to consider the multiplier effect of shutting down operations, on Nigerians and global travellers, in taking their business-informed decisions and actions.

“We also assure Nigerians, especially stakeholders in the sector, that the Buhari administration remains stoic in its commitment to the creation and sustenance of an environment that promotes the growth of the aviation industry where major players like the airlines can operate in a profitable and competitive market.”
