PoliticsWe Haven’t Approved New Electricity Tariff – NERC by Warlord12(op): 6:23am On May 07, 2022
The Chairman, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Mr Sanusi Garba, has said the agency has not approved tariff rate review in the power sector in recent times.

Garba told journalists in Abuja on Friday that the last tariff review was approved on December 31, 2021, and became effective in February this year.

He stated, “I want to, on behalf of the management of NERC, clearly state that as of today (Friday), we have not approved any rate review and there is no indication that any electricity distribution company is increasing its tariff.

“If you notice that the rate you buy electricity has changed within the last one to three weeks, we want evidence. The information posted on the NERC website was the last tariff rate review in December 2021.

“Our function is to approve applications for tariffs for the distribution companies, and we have not received any.

“We have clearly said that we have an obligation by law to do minor review every six months to take care of inflation, forex and so on.”

On the issue of Eligible Customers Regulations, the Commissioner, Market Competition and Rates, NERC, Mr Musiliu Oseni, said it was still in place.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the eligible customer regulation permits electricity generation companies to sell power directly to customers whose consumption is more than two megawatts/hour over the course of one month.

Oseni said the regulation and the framework were in place, adding that the commission issued a letter to the market operators to stop the recognition of certain potential customers.

He said the customers were stopped because at the time, they had not secured the approval of the commission.

He stated, “As of today, we have a few customers that have been approved as eligible customers pending the review of the necessary documentation of other customers.

“Some of the customers that are yet to secure approval have some challenges, which include the inability of their potential generators to sell additional capacity to them.

“Under that framework, many of the generators had a contract with the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company, and you cannot contract the same capacity twice.”

Oseni added that such generators were already making moves to renegotiate the contracted capacity made with NBET to free some capacity to sell to eligible customers.

PoliticsJUST IN: Release Nnamdi Kanu, South-east Leaders Tell Buhari by Warlord12(op): 12:24pm On May 06, 2022
South-East leaders have told the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

The Igbo leaders made the plea in an address during a meeting with Buhari at the Executive Council Chambers, New Government House Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State.

Chairman of South-East Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Charles Mkpuma, read the address.

The PUNCH had reported that Buhari on Thursday commenced a two-day working visit to Ebonyi with the inauguration of projects at King David University of Medical Sciences, Uburu.

The president’s aircraft landed at Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu at about 10. a.m. on Wednesday.

Buhari was received by Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State and some governors of the APC, including the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo and his counterpart from Jigawa, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar were also on a solidarity visit to welcome the president to Ebonyi.

The president would conclude his visit to Ebonyi with a closed-door meeting with the South-East leaders in Abakaliki before departing for Abuja on Friday.

Ohanaeze had in a statement on Tuesday said Buhari’s two-day working visit to Ebonyi would kick-start the process to get Nnamdi Kanu released.

The statement read, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has given assurances of peace and security ahead of the planned presidential visit to Ebonyi State.

“This is part of the resolutions reached at the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Elders council meeting held in Abakiliki on Tuesday 3rd May 2022.

“For translucence and clarity of purpose, President Muhammadu Buhari has been fair to Ndigbo with federal projects irrespective of the fact that his party’s declined fortunes and acceptance in 2015 and 2019 elections in the southeast, but the Chairman of Southeast Governors and Ebonyi Governor, Engr Dave Nweze Umahi has brought good tidings and paid huge sacrifices for Ndigbo to access the presidency and attract federal government’s projects and attention to the southeast zone.

“The Elders council was presided over by Prince Dr Richard Ozobu insisted that this is the best opportunity for Igbo leaders with the southeast Governors to dialogue with President Buhari over the release of the Ipob leader Mazi Nnamdi Kalu.

“Ndigbo expectations are that such windows of opportunities must be fully utilized for positive results as President Buhari will be received warmly by Ndigbo, this will be one of the most remarkable visits of Mr President to the southeast, as we except that the President’s two days working visit to Ebonyi state will change the narratives that Buhari loves Ndigbo, and he will prove it by kick-starting the process that will release Nnamdi Kanu”.

“IPOB and other Biafra Agitators should hold their peace and remain loyal to the procedure that will help them achieve the release of their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“Buhari’s visit will usher in fresh hopes of having a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction and secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

”We are conscious of the fact that IPOB is cognisant of the process of releasing their leader is ongoing, and their proper attitudes and conduct are expected to solidify the process of Kanu’s release.

“We are welcoming President Buhari with an open mind and wish him a pleasant stay in Ebonyi State.”

Foreign AffairsBiden Appoints First Black White House Press Secretary by Warlord12(op): 12:14pm On May 06, 2022
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki (R) is hugged by current Principal Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre during a press briefing in the Brady Press Briefing Room of the White House in Washington, DC, May 5, 2022.

The United States President, Joe Biden, on Thursday, named Karine Jean-Pierre as the next White House press secretary, the first black person to hold the high-profile post.

Jean-Pierre, who would also be the first Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender person in the role, would replace Jen Psaki, under whom she served as deputy, from May 13.

Biden in a statement praised Jean-Pierre’s experience, talent, and integrity, saying he was proud to announce her appointment.

The outgoing spokeswoman, bringing Jean-Pierre behind the podium for the traditional briefing of accredited journalists at the White House on Thursday, praised, in a voice sometimes choked with emotion, the qualities of her deputy, whom she hugged several times.

Jean-Pierre “will be the first Black woman, the first out LGBTQ+ person to serve in this role,” said Psaki, who said from the outset that she would step down during Biden’s term.

Jean-Pierre’s promotion is “amazing because representation matters and she is going to give a voice to so many and show so many what is truly possible when you work hard and dream big,” Psaki added, opting not to comment on media reports that she would be joining TV channel MSNBC after leaving the White House.

The 44-year-old Jean-Pierre, who has a daughter with her partner, a Cable News Network journalist, has already taken to the famed podium in the White House’s James S. Brady press briefing room as Psaki’s number two.

From May she would take center stage at the daily White House press conference, which is broadcast live and highly scrutinised.

Before her, only one other Black woman, Judy Smith, had been deputy White House press secretary, during George Walker Bush’s presidency in 1991.

EducationVice Chancellors’ Wives Plan Turkey Trip Amid ASUU Strike by Warlord12(op): 6:57pm On May 05, 2022
Wives of Vice Chancellors of public universities are set to travel to Istanbul, Turkey for a five-day conference, The PUNCH has learnt.

This is as the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities since February 14, 2022, entered its third month.

According to a letter by the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, the programme is scheduled to hold from 18 to 23 July 2022, in Istanbul.

The letter which was dated May 5, 2022, and sighted by our correspondent, was signed by the Committee’s Secretary-General, Yakubu Ochefu.

Ochefu noted that each of the VC wives would pay a sum of N1.5m as course form to attend the programme.

The letter addressed to vice chancellors was titled, ‘Invitation to the Istanbul 5-Day Leadership & Management Masterclass, Fellowship Induction for Spouses of Vice Chancellors, Women in Academics and Higher Education Leadership’.

It partly read, “We understand the vital role spouses play in supporting Vice Chancellors as they execute their day- to day administration of universities. It is therefore imperative, that capacity building exercises be put in place for the Women in Academics and spouses of Vice Chancellors in Nigerian Universities.

“In this regard, the Committee’s Secretariat, In Partnership with Win Institute for Gender Studies, Nigeria in collaboration with her Turkey-based learning partner, Istanbul Egitimler, have put together a 5-day Leadership & Management Masterclass, and Fellowship Induction for spouses of Vice Chancellors, women academics and higher education leadership in Africa.”

Similarly, the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities Spouses is set to hold a two-day conference at the Tayo Aderinokun Memorial Hall at the University of Lagos.

The conference slated for May 9, 2022, has UNILAG VC, Prof O.T. Ogundipe, and his wife as hosts while former Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria, Dr Ibukun Awosika, is pencilled as one of the speakers.

ASUU had on February 14 embarked on industrial action.

The union led by Prof Emmanuel Osodeke said it made the decision for the Federal Government and its agencies to meet the lingering demands of the union.

The National Association of Nigerian Students has since threatened fire and brimstone, censuring the Federal Government for abandoning students of public universities but politicians including current ministers have shunned the striking lecturers and protesting students.

Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba; as well as Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; both of the ruling All Progressives Congress recently picked up the party’s N100m presidential nomination and expression of interest forms each while lecture rooms remained shut for about three months this year.

Students of public universities had also been at home for nine straight months in 2020 when ASUU and the Federal Government had a face-off over unpaid areas, choice of payment platforms, amongst other contentious issues

Flight90:
Hello Nairalanders,

Please I need your help in sorting out a transaction I did. On the 25th of April, 2022 I did a transfer to a first bank account which didn't go as a result of bad network from the bank. Later that day, I tried the transaction a second time and it was now successful.

When it was time for me to go home, I did my balancing and discovered that I was having shortage. So I did a review of my days transaction and I discovered that the initial transaction later went. Meaning that the customer got credited twice.

I called my bank to confirm the transaction and I was told that both transaction were successful. I then called the customer who now claimed that he only got credited for once.

I told him to check his app, he replied that he doesn't use an android phone. I then told him to go to his bank to get his bank statement, his reply was that he doesn't have time to go to his bank.

Please guys, how do I solve this case? Is there a way I can go to first bank to get evidence that the money is in the customers account? And is it possible for me to get a police report in other to go to first bank to get evidence?

Kindly advice as your suggestions will go a long way in solving this case.

PoliticsPSC Promotes Magu To AIG Ahead Of Retirement by Warlord12(op): 5:52pm On May 03, 2022
The Police Service Commission may have concluded plans to promote a former acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, to Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

Magu, a Commissioner of Police, has tendered his pre-retirement notice and will officially retire from the force on May 5.

But The PUNCH gathered on Monday that the PSC Standing Committee has recommended him for elevation to AIG, a development that may set the commission on a collision course with the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN).

The decision to promote Magu, the most senior Commissioner of Police, followed the recommendation of the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba.

Magu’s ordeal began in July 2020 when he was suspended from office as acting EFCC chairman by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), over Malami’s allegations against him and he consequently appeared before a presidential panel headed by retired Justice Ayo Salami set up to probe him for alleged graft and insubordination.

The PSC had last July declined to promote Magu during the promotion of 24 CPs and other officers.

“The commission declined the promotion of Magu pending clearance from the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and the Office of the Inspector- General of Police,” the commission spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, had said in a statement.

The commissioner representing the media in the PSC, Mr Austin Braimoh, had also said the ex-EFCC boss may not get his retirement benefits until he is cleared of the allegations levelled against him by the AGF.

But speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior official said there was no pending disciplinary case against Magu before the commission.

The source said, “Though the government set up a panel, they didn’t even inform the commission. And Magu has been the most senior commissioner of police for a very long time and we have been stepping down his promotion. The AGF should have written to the commission about the case against him.

“The IG has been sending his name for promotion, so why shouldn’t we promote him? Already, the standing committee of the commission has already recommended him for promotion to AIG. Though he is about to retire from service, he can still be promoted after retirement.”

When asked about the planned promotion, Braimoh said he was not aware of the latest decision regarding Magu’s elevation but confirmed that there was no indictment against the CP.

He stated, “I’m not aware that Magu has been recommended for promotion but the fact is that there is nothing before the commission indicting Magu. He is still a policeman and he is in the force receiving his salary. There is no report to the commission that this man is indicted or that he has a case or pending disciplinary matter.

“I have not seen a report that he is undergoing investigation. For any police officer that has a pending disciplinary matter; the police authorities will never send his name or recommend him for promotion. So, once a recommendation comes from the IG for promotion, it means that the officer has no pending disciplinary matter.

“So, if there is a recommendation from the IG, there is no reason we should deny him promotion; he can take us to court. If he is due and there is a recommendation, it means there is no PDM, we will promote him.”

PoliticsOhanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Endorses Tinubu For 2023 Presidency by Warlord12(op): 8:36am On May 03, 2022
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council on Monday said it has endorsed the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, for president in the 2023 general elections.

Addressing journalists after its meeting in Enugu, the leader of Council, Miracle Nwosu, said his members were delighted to identify with the APC chieftain as the foremost national political leader in contemporary Nigeria and political dispensation, “who is in the forefront of providing good governance and dividends of democracy in our developing society.”

Nwosu stated that having carefully extolled Tinubu’s visionary leadership qualities, forthrightness, and uncommon courage, he would surely lead Nigerian youth and the nation to greater heights and out of economic peril.

He said, “It is in the light of this, we call all his party delegates in their party upcoming 2022 APC presidential primaries, especially southeast delegates to vote and ensure His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Tinubu emerges as the presidential flag bearer of APC.

“If he becomes President, Igbo nation and her youth will benefit more, which he demonstrated when he was the former Governor of Lagos state. So I urge our Igbo brothers from South East to support his candidature because he has impacted more in the lives of our people who are doing businesses in Lagos State.”

Nwosu commended Tinubu for being an exceptional politician and a distinguished leader, who has effected monumental democratic change in the country’s political evolution.

“It is our sincere desire that Almighty God will grant him the enabling grace, wisdom, and protection in this strategic endeavour,” he said.

PoliticsFG May Release Detained Terrorists In Exchange For 68 Train Hostages by Warlord12(op): 8:26am On May 03, 2022
THERE are strong indications that the Federal Government may concede to the demands of the terrorists who attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train and abducted no fewer than 68 passengers at Katari, Kaduna state, on March 28.

The gang had demanded the release of some of its detained commanders and financiers in exchange for the abductees.

About eight people were killed and 26 others injured when the gunmen bombed the rail track and fired gunshots at the train which was heading for Kaduna.

The gunmen had released one of the hostages, the Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture, Alwan Hassan, following the alleged payment of a huge sum.

The PUNCH learnt on Sunday that negotiations with the armed gang are progressing but the government, it was gathered, had the option to yield to the gunmen’s demands or launch an all-out attack which is considered high risk.

The terrorists had last Wednesday released the picture of a baby girl that was delivered by one of the two pregnant women in their custody.

The picture was believed to have been released ostensibly to show the world that the infant is hale and hearty and to strengthen their bargaining power during negotiations.

The baby, who was clad in a thick pink dress and a light lemon sweater cap, appeared to be sleeping.

The bandits were reported to have invited a doctor to take delivery of the baby in their den. However, the picture of the mother was not released and no one knows her condition or state of health.

Before this, a video showing the victims being guarded by masked gunmen in a forest was also released.

In the two minutes, 14 seconds video clip, the victims took turns to introduce themselves and urged the government to reach out to the bandits.

“In my own case, I’m a staff of INEC Kaduna State and I’m appealing to the government to please come to our assistance,” one of the victims said.

Security sources said the terrorists were insisting on the release of their members as well as huge cash in exchange for the kidnap victims who include children, women, and some men, some of whom were injured during the train attack.

“The negotiation with the terrorists is going on but the government is seriously considering how to safely navigate the situation without compromising the safety of the abductees or national security.

“The gunmen are insisting on the release of their commanders and financiers; they also want cash. Deliberation is going on at the highest level to resolve the impasse in a way that would not compromise national security or the safety of the abductees,” a source explained.

Our correspondent could not confirm whether a deal has been reached with the gang members but it was learnt that they may release selected victims as a show of good faith after sealing a deal with government representatives.

Politics75 Inmates Of Ogun Prison Become Pastors After Taking Diploma In Theology by Warlord12(op): 1:32pm On May 01, 2022
Seventy-five inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ibara Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Old Abeokuta, Ogun State, have become church ministers after bagging Diploma certificates in Theology.
It was gathered that the inmates had undergone a six-month training at the seminary, geared towards reforming and rehabilitating them.

The programme had the combined efforts of other ministers of God who repeatedly visited the facility to teach the graduating students.

At the graduation ceremony held on the premises of the custodial centre, the National Director of the project, Dr Olamide Emmanuel, said the event was an effort to reform and rehabilitate criminal minds, Daily Post reports.

“We combined efforts with some men of God to work at the custodial centre here. We have about 75 of them who have distinguished themselves to serve God. Some of them have been released and they have started work outside. The programme is in three stages and it’s already a year today.

“We discovered that many leave this place destitutely with nothing to fall back on. They are castigated outside, they are stigmatised. But, through the help of Ministers of God, we built their psyche so that they will know this is not the end of life, better things are there for them outside,” he said.

Dr Emmanuel disclosed that the third stage of the programme would produce graduates with bachelor’s degrees in Theology, saying, “We have those who are qualified for that already.”

The Deputy Controller of Corrections, Oshin Bamidele, who is in charge of the Ibara Maximum Security Custodial Centre, held that the duty of correctional officers is to reform, rehabilitate and reintegrate.

“As correctional officers, our mandate is to reform, rehabilitate and reintegrate back into the society. We achieve this through educational programmes and religious activities. These are 75 inmates who have gone through a theological school known as a seminary. We have seen very radical changes in them,” Oshin said, appreciating the NCoS Controller General, Haliru Nababa for allowing them to impact the lives of the inmates.

Speaking with newsmen, the Social Welfare Officer of the centre, AbdulAkeem Awesu, said, “Today we are graduating 75 of our Christian inmates who have distinguished themselves in the school of seminary. This programme is under religious education for the inmates. They will be awarded a diploma.”

According to him, the training was not just to train pastors, but for moral modification, spiritual attention and protection

“This goes beyond being a pastor. It has to do with moral modification, spiritual attention and protection, as well as inculcating discipline and the word of God into them. Being a pastor is a thing of choice, but they have undergone the process of reformation and rehabilitation. My advice for them is to keep it up,” Awesu said.

PoliticsTrain Attack: SERAP Sues Buhari Over Kidnapped Victims by Warlord12(op): 11:48am On May 01, 2022
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has filed a lawsuit against the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), over what it described as “the failure to protect the rights to life, security, and dignity of the victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack, and the failure to secure the safe release of those held captive by the terrorists.”

Terrorists had on March 28 attacked the AK9 Abuja–Kaduna train, killing at least nine people, wounding several others, and abducting an unknown number of passengers. The victims have remained with the terrorists for a month, despite repeated appeals for the government to free them from captivity.

SERAP said the suit filed by its lawyers Kolawole Oluwadare and Opeyemi Owolabi followed reports that the Federal Executive Council failed to approve funds for surveillance equipment that could have helped to prevent the train attack.

In the suit No ECW/CCJ/APP/20/22 filed last week before the ECOWAS Court of Justice in Abuja, SERAP is seeking “a declaration that the train attack, abductions and killings of passengers by terrorists amount to a failure by the government to protect Nigerians, and to prevent these grave human rights violations.”

SERAP is also seeking “an order directing the Buhari government to protect, promote, and fulfil the human rights of Nigerians, including travellers across the country, by ensuring adequate security and taking measures to prevent attacks.”

SERAP is seeking “an order directing the Buhari government to urgently find and identify all the passengers, victims and their families, and to pay adequate monetary compensation of N50 million to each of the passengers and victims and their families.”

In the suit filed together with an application for an expedited hearing, SERAP is arguing that “The Buhari government has a legal duty to protect individuals from real and immediate risks to their lives and security caused by actions of third-parties such as terrorists.”

SERAP is also arguing that “A fundamental notion of contemporary human rights law is that victims of violations such as the victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack enjoy an independent right to effective remedies. Rights without remedies are ineffectual, rendering illusory the government’s duty to protect such rights.

“The Buhari government has failed to protect the constitutionally and internationally guaranteed rights of the victims of the train attack to life, dignity, and security, and their right to an effective remedy.”

No date has been fixed for the hearing of the application for an expedited hearing, and the substantive suit.

PoliticsDariye, Nyame Remain In Prison 2 Weeks After Pardon by Warlord12(op): 9:29am On May 01, 2022
Former Governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye, and his counterpart, Jolly Nyame of Taraba State are yet to be released from Kuje Correctional Centre, The Nation learnt yesterday. This is about two weeks after they were pardoned by the National Council of States alongside 157 others.

Dariye was said to have shed tears of joy on learning about his pardon. But the Federal Government is yet to send documents regarding their pardon to the Correctional authorities to enable them perfect the process for their release.

On breaking the news of their pardon, the ex-governors were said to have been thrown into excitement and appreciated the gesture of the Council.

However, it was learnt that their high spirits were waning following the criticism that trailed their release from a cross-section of Nigerians and the slow pace of the process to perfect their release.

Findings showed that the duo of Dariye and Nyame are still awaiting their release from the Kuje facility located at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, at the time of filing this report.

Officials of the facility who confided in our Correspondent said only the lawyers of those pardoned would know details of the process for their pardon and release from the prison facility.

Dariye and Nyame were jailed for corruption charges by the Federal Government.

They would be released from prison with 157 others who were pardoned by the Council of States following the acceptance of the government proposal.

Speaking with The Nation on the matter, the Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Humphrey Chukwuendo confirmed that ex-governors Dariye and Nyame are still in their custody.

He said: “As of today we are yet to get letters to release them. It’s the Federal Government that will bring the letters. And once we receive the letters, they will be set free. The holidays may not affect their release because it is from the Federal Government.

Group expresses disappointment over continued detention

Meanwhile, a group, ‘Renaissance Group for Better Nigeria’ has expressed surprise and disappointment that weeks after the pardon, nothing has been done to effect their release.

The group in a statement signed by its Chairman, Jonathan Ibrahim, said there should be no need for the delay since the pardon was granted by the highest decision making body in the country pointing out that the decision of the body is supposed to be acted on without much ado to avoid negative impression.

“We are surprised that they are still being held and many Nigerians, especially their loved ones, are beginning to have the impression that they are still being held for certain political reasons which are not clear to many.

“We are therefore calling on all relevant authorities, especially, the Ministry of Justice to do all that is required and necessary to facilitate their release to avoid unnecessary insinuation. More so their political associates and families are eager and anxiously waiting for their arrival.

CrimeEFCC Declares 59 Wanted Over ₦435 Billion, $397 Million, €9.9Million Frauds by Warlord12(op): 7:55am On May 01, 2022
No fewer than 59 suspects are on the Wanted List of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for various fraudulent activities amounting to about N435bn and $397,758,000 (about N165bn).

The offences range from money laundering to obtaining money by false pretence, fraud, internet-related offences and issuance of dud cheque.

The commission, in the notice signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, displayed the pictures of the wanted persons and the details of their alleged crimes on its website.

It called on anyone with useful information as to the whereabouts of the said persons to contact any of the commission’s offices or the nearest police station or other security agencies.

The single biggest crime on the list was that of one Maxwell, wanted by the EFCC in an alleged case of conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence and money laundering to the tune of N213bn.

He ran a trading and capital company, in which many investors’ funds got trapped.

Meanwhile on his Facebook page, where he posed with different celebrities, several commenters, believed to have invested in his forex trading business, asked him to refund their money, while some cursed him.

Also, a former personal assistant to a former governor of Kwara State, was said to have signed for and laundered about N12bn belonging to the state government. The suspect was said to have jumped bail granted to him by the commission and had remained incommunicado.

A Nigerien, identified as Hima, was declared wanted by the commission over alleged criminal conspiracy, contract scam, misappropriation of public funds, money laundering and fraud to the tune of $394m, €9.9m and N369m.

He was alleged to have received the sum for the purchase of equipment for the Nigerian military. It was later discovered that there were discrepancies in the supply of the equipment.

Meanwhile, in the March edition of EFCC Alert, the monthly e-magazine published by the Media Unit of the commission, obtained by our correspondent, the chairman of the commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, said the commission was not being teleguided by anyone.

“I think it is a huge problem that Nigerians should understand and come to terms with; that we need to do something about it. We need to work together,” he added.

PoliticsI Will Appoint Minister Of Stomach Infrastructure If Elected President – Fayose by Warlord12(op): 9:31am On Apr 30, 2022
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, says he will appoint a “Minister of Stomach Infrastructure” if he emerges president of Nigeria.

Fayose stated this while speaking with newsmen, shortly after his appearance before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Screening Committee in Abuja, on Friday.

The former governor said that when the committee asked him about his stomach infrastructure policy while he was governor of Ekiti State, he made it very clear that it would be part of his policies if he emerged president.

“I made it clear that I will have a minister for stomach infrastructure and welfare of the people,” he stated.

He, however, added that as much as tarring roads and providing other infrastructure was good, that would not be sufficient for hungry citizens.

“So, for me, stomach infrastructure is part of being supportive of the ordinary Nigerian. Stomach infrastructure under my watch as president of Nigeria will be a major theme.

“No one is saying here that you will not do the needful in terms of developing the country, part of development is the welfare and well-being of the people.”

Stating his position on zoning, Fayose insisted that for posterity’s sake, PDP must zone its presidential ticket in order not to cause confusion in the future.

According to him, even if the party wants everyone to contest, it should officially make a pronouncement and zone it to the Southern part of Nigeria.

He recalled that in 1999, the presidential ticket was zoned to the south when former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Olu Falaye were in the race, but Abubakar Rimi still contested within the ambit of the Constitution.

“But the party must remember that whatever we do today, will speak for us or stand against us tomorrow.

“The system is not functioning in our country; the institutions are not functioning, that is why we have all these problems.

“We must be courageous enough to say this is going to South, and If you want to contest, the Nigerian constitution still gives you the leverage, the opportunity to do so. I support zoning this time to southern Nigeria.”

Fayose said that with the incumbent president from the north, it was only logical for the south to produce the next president, saying this was not about the party, but about Nigeria’s best interest and stability.
