The Enugu State Police Command says a student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), on Saturday drank a substance believed to be ‘Sniper’ insecticide in a bid to take her life.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ebere Amaraizu, disclosed in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Sunday that the student was, however, responding to treatment.

Amaraizu said that the attempted suicide happened at 8.00 a.m. on Saturday.

“The victim, Miss Chinwendu Odoh, 24, is from Enugu Ezike in Igbo-Eze North LGA and a 200 level microbiology student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

“She allegedly drank a substance believed to be ‘Sniper’ insecticide with a view to taking her life.

“Odoh was, however, promptly rushed to the Royal Cross Hospital, Nsukka, where she is being revived,’’ he said.

According to the spokesman, a full scale investigation into the incident is being carried out by the police.

“Information from some sympathisers are pointing toward depression over an unresolved issue.

“The victim is now responding to treatment in the hospital,’’ he said.

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has advised South Africa to apply “a bit of force” to deal with xenophobia attacks on foreigners in the country.

Mnangagwa, said this while addressing Zimbabwean nationals in Cape Town, adding that the attacks on foreigners can only be contained by punitive measures.

“I have no doubt that the authorities here will not fold hands, they must bring sanity and to do so they must apply a bit of force,” said Mnangagwa.

Later on posting on Twitter, Mnangagwa applauded South African Authorities for making efforts to contain the xenophobic attacks.

“We strongly condemn all forms of hate driven violence and applaud the South African Authorities for the swift way they have responded,” said Mnangagwa.

“We are closely following the situation and are in regular contact with our South African counterparts and His Excellency Cde Cyril Ramaphosa.”

The xenophobic attacks have since claimed the lives of five people and caused massive destruction of properties belonging to foreigners.

CORPS MEMBERS TO ENJOY INCREASED ALLOWANCE

Corps Members have been advised that their monthly allowance would be increased immediately the Federal Government start the payment of the new minimum wage to all public servants nationwide.

NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim said this today while interacting with Corps Members during his working visit to Lagos State Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja.

He said efforts are in top gear at all levels to ensure adequate welfare for all Corps Members.

The Director-General however advised them not to embark on unauthorized journey that may endanger their lives whereby such journey would also earn them sanctions from the NYSC.

He warned that violators of NYSC bye-laws would be dealt with in line with NYSC rules.

'Don't debase yourselves, study the byelaw
including NYSC Act and be law-abiding. Don't participate in politics, avoid religious and tribal differences', he added.

Ibrahim also admonished the Corps Members to imbibe good morals and serve as responsible role models in their host communities.

He warned them to avoid rumour peddling through the Social Media but rather serve as agents of change and National unity.

The NYSC Chief Executive appealed to the Corps Members to respect the culture, tradition and religious beliefs of their host communities and avoid any act that may put them in collision with them.

'Be security conscious at all times and make sure that good moral, diligence and loyalty to the ideals of the NYSC Scheme are your watchword', the DG added.

In all honesty Sir, the man whom you will receive as Nigeria’s President is a contracted body double of the late Buhari from Sudan in the person of a Mr. Jubril al Sudani, in fraudulent replacement of the late President of Nigeria General Muhammed Buhari who died in King’s Cross Hospital London in January 2017 following surgery for brain tumor and related complications. He was subsequently buried in Saudi Arabia according to Islamic rights. All these are facts the highly efficient Japanese intelligence service can easily ascertain.

We represent the marginalized indigenous peoples and ethnic nationalities of Eastern Nigeria. In the face of long-standing marginalization, genocide and injustice against our people, we seek the restoration of sovereignty of our homeland, the Republic of Biafra.

Ike Ekweremadu, the immediate past Deputy Senate president, was humiliated by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) at a function in Nuremberg, Germany today Saturday August 17th.


As of that time of the attack the reason was yet to be ascertained, it was reported earlier the IPOB members were throwing stones at Ekweremadu. The politician who was immediately whisked away from the venue by the organisers.

There has been a lot of questions from fans and football analysts after the news broke out that Manchester City have received a fine of £315,000 by FIFA for committing same offence with rivals Chelsea. A FIFA spokesman has confirmed why Manchester City have escaped a transfer ban despite being found guilty of breaking rules on signing young players, unlike the harsher punishment Chelsea received.

When contacted FIFA to determine why City and Chelsea's cases resulted in different outcomes, and received the following response:

"Generally speaking, FIFA's judicial bodies handle all cases on an individual basis as circumstances differ from case to case," said the FIFA spokesman.

"In its decision on Manchester City , FIFA's Disciplinary Committee took into consideration all specific circumstances of the case as well as the club’s cooperation in clarifying the relevant facts.

"It is important to stress that the specific circumstances of this case differ from previous cases involving breaches relating to the international transfer and registration of players under the age of 18.

"Please note that in line with article 50 ( of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (2019 version), 'at any time prior to the meeting set up to decide the case by the relevant judicial body, a party may accept responsibility and request the FIFA judicial bodies to impose a specific sanction. Why? because you are now a Corper receiving allawee. One can neither call parents nor brothers for financial purposes unless one promises to return the money whenever allawee drops. Only few with parental influence flex with their parents' money and leave allawee untouched for other purpose or few ones that have already been employed or have flourishing business and only want NYSC certification for future reference. Some of these categories are rather ghost Corpers who sacrifice their monthly allowance to the Local Government Inspectors and school principals.

As interesting as the NYSC, the Federal Government seems not to have known that going out of one's comfort zone to live on #19,800 is not easy. Most of the Corpers exhaust their money before 20th of the month and continue to count down the days left to earn new allowance. Can you imagine a living inside life.

A brother of mine earned #19,800 when he served in the year 2013. During that time, a Congo of rice was #300 while that of beans was #120. Can you imagine how cheap other cooking stuffs would be by then? As cheap as foodstuffs, he always complain of insufficient balance...

The government of Uganda �� has announced its plans to register all farmers and their cattle, including issuing “birth certificates” for the animals, so it can trace their products.

The minister of agriculture, animal industry and fishery, Vincent Ssempijja said the procedure was necessary as the international market demanded that all countries producing food for the European market needed to provide proof so that the food could be traced, the East African reported.

“They want to know where the meat and crop products are coming from. They have been impounding and banning all consignments from Uganda if they find one box with issues,” he said at the official opening of the National Agricultural Show in Jinja, southern Uganda.

“Farmers will be registered and their products given barcodes so that if they find a problem with one box, they look for the source and sort out the problem. We cannot enter lucrative markets unless farmers register.”

Ssempijja added that all the cattle must be registered and given “birth certificates”.
“For cattle farmers, it is going to be worse. You will be registered as a farmer, the cow will be registered, numbered and will have a birth certificate because the importers of our products demand meat for cows aged between 15 to 24 months. So we are going to sell the meat depending on their age,” he added.

An audit team from the European Union will arrive in Uganda in September to that all farmers producing commodities destined for Europe are registered.

The Food and Agriculture Organisation representative in Uganda, Antonio Querido, said Uganda needs livestock traceability for better product transaction in the international market.
