PoliticsResidents Groan As Patience Grounds Abuja With Dancers, drummers. by wengerjay(op): 5:27pm On Aug 15, 2013
*Military aircraft mounts surveillance,
as soldiers take over street…
Residents and visitors to Abuja,
Nigeria’s Federal Capital were on
Thursday subjected to unwarranted
restriction and security cordon, as the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan,
took time off to sing and dance with
women drawn from the 36 states of
the Federation. The event, which was held at the
Eagles Square, effectively cut off
workers from the imposing Federal
Secretariat on both Shehu Shagari Way
and Ibrahim Babangida Road, forcing
them to trek for miles to their offices. The big event, which took the workers
and residents by surprise, also
prevented commercial and
government drivers from dropping
their passengers, mostly workers in
their designated bus stops around the secretariat. Instead, hordes of stern-looking and
gut-toting securitymen, who had
arrived the venue before dawn,
ordered them to stop some 200
metres away from the Square, which is
surrounded by the Federal Secretariat. As vehicular and human traffic was
effectively cut off from all the routes
leading to the venue of the First Lady’s
rally, tagged, “Nigerian Women Rally
for Peace and Empowerment”,
frustrated motorists were funnelled to any available space, thereby leading to
a chaotic traffic snarl for most part of
the day. As a result, all major streets in the
Business District of Abuja, were
overflowed with long queues of
human and vehicular traffic, giving
traffic warders a hectic day. While the traffic chaos lasted, armed
soldiers and policemen in battle-ready
mood took their positions on strategic
road intersections, frisking commuters
and pedestrians as if a war was on the
offing. The armed men on the streets were
given aerial support by military
helicopters, which hovered over the
venue of the rally as long as the
ceremony lasted, making occasional
displays, as they flew past. Inside the rally venue, Dame Jonathan,
backed by Vice President, Namadi
Sambo and some ministers and their
spouses, relished the show as
thousands of women danced and
marched past her. Like the President would do during
national events, she smiled and waved
at the women groups. Displaying a
sense of excitement and satisfaction
over the large mobilisation of women
and artistes to the venue, which must have cost the nation a fortune at a time
the government claims it does not
have N92 billion to settle teachers
demand, Mrs. Jonathan frequently
nodded her head and smiled as the
various groups performed. Women in the various military and
paramilitary agencies in the country
and women organisations were
mobilised to sing, dance and march all
for the First Lady, just as groups gave
goodwill messages to the President’s wife. The security lockdown in Abuja,
Vanguard learnt, was also
necessitated by the suspicion that
some insurgents had planned to
attack certain places in the country this
week. www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/residents-groan-as-dame-jonathan-grounds-abuja-with-drummers-dancers/
PoliticsNigeria Is jinxed, cursed says Former President Obasanjo. by wengerjay(op): 8:43pm On Aug 13, 2013
While reviewing Nigeria’s history since
independence, former President
Olusegun Obasanjo said the country
may have been cursed with poor and
irresponsible leaders. Mr. Obasanjo, who gave the keynote
address at the 4th Annual Ibadan
Sustainable Development Summit
organised by Centre for Sustainable
Development, University of Ibadan, in
collaboration with African Sustainable Development Network, on Tuesday,
said if Nigerians were yet to commend
a leader after 53 years of
independence, “Then we are jinxed
and cursed; we should all go to hell.” He also condemned the younger
generation of leaders in the country,
saying they lack integrity and probity
and have failed their people woefully. Making specific reference to his Vice
President for eight years, Atiku
Abubakar; former governor of Lagos
State, Bola Tinubu; former Speaker,
House of Representatives, Salisu
Buhari; former Bayelsa State Governor, Deprieye Alamieyeseigha; and others
as younger generation of leaders, the
former President said Nigeria was not
lucky even with them. “We had some people who were
under 50years in leadership positions.
One of them was James Ibori, where is
he today? One of them was
Alamieyeseigha, where is he today?
Lucky Igbinedion, where is he today? “The youngest was the Speaker,
(Salisu) Buhari; you can still recall what
happened to him. You said Bola
Tinubu is your master. What Buhari did
was not anything worse than what
Bola Tinubu did. “We got them impeached. But in this
part of the world some people
covered up the other man. The man
claimed he went to Government
College, Ibadan but the governor (Oyo
State) went to Government College and packed all the documents so that
they would not know that he did not
go there. “I wanted someone who would
succeed me so I took Atiku. Within a
year, I started seeing the type of man
Atiku is. And you want me to get him
there? “I once went to Tanzania because
Julius Nyerere recognised Biafra. He
told me not to mind his aides and
others in government. They would say
they have one house in town but their
five year old sons and daughters would have houses all over. “Some of you who are condemning
the leadership would get there
tomorrow and it will be a different
story. Only very few are actually good. “Abacha, my predecessor got $750m.
Through our lawyer in Switzerland we
recovered $1.25bn and the lawyer still
said there is probably still another
$1bn to be recovered. In 1979 we had
20 new ships specially built for Nigeria. When I came back 20 years
after, the national shipping line had
liquidated. “The whole thing is not just about
leadership. If we talk about good
leadership you should also talk about
good followers. If you talk about
human right you should also talk
about human duties and obligations. “It is sad that after 53years of
independence we have no leader that
we can commend. The problem in
Africa is that when one person takes
over he would not see any good thing
that his predecessor did. Let us condemn but with caution,” the
former military ruler and two-term
democractically elected president said. The Vice-Chancellor of the University
of Ibadan, Isaac Adewole said he was
worried about the fate that could
befall the country as she holds her
general elections in 2015. “We have not raised question about
the scenario where 35 people found it
difficult to conduct credible election in
this country,” the don said in reference
to the election of the Chairman of the
Nigeria Governors Forum that has polarized Nigeria’s 36 state governors. saharareporters.com/news-page/nigeria-jinxed-cursed-says-former-president-obasanjo-premium-times

Sports'Barcelona Risk Ruining Neymar'. by wengerjay(op): 10:12am On Aug 09, 2013
The gifted attacker's former boss has
voiced his concerns with the
Blaugrana's plans to improve his
physique by placing him on a weight-
gaining programme Former Santos coach Muricy Ramalho
has hit out at Barcelona over their plans for Neymar to gain weight to boost his physical prowess. Barca doctor Ricard Pruna said earlier
this summer that the 21-year-old must
gain weight in order to reach his peak
physical condition, after the Brazilian
was diagnosed with anaemia
following his €57 million switch to Camp Nou. Ramalho, however, believes the
Blaugrana are risking damaging
Neymar's long-term effectiveness,
claiming it could lead to a serious
injury like that suffered by compatriot
and former Barcelona star Ronaldo. "If Neymar puts on weight, they’re
going to take away everything that’s
best about him," Ramalho told Jovem
Pam. "They’re going to take away his
speed. With small players such as Xavi,
[Andres] Iniesta and [Lionel] Messi at
Barca, I never imagined that they
would do this. "If he puts on weight he could suffer a
knee injury, like what happened to
Ronaldo. It’s a dangerous business." Neymar scored his first goal for
Barcelona earlier this week in the 7-1
friendly win over Thailand. www.goal.com/en-ng/news/4099/spain/2013/08/09/4175080/barcelona-risk-ruining-neymar-says-ramalho

PoliticsMbu Remains Rivers Police Chief, says IG. by wengerjay(op):
Inspector-General of Police
Mohammed Abubakar yesterday
dashed the hope of those expecting a
change in the leadership of the police
in Rivers State. Controversial Police Commissioner
Mbu Joseph Mbu will remain in office,
Abubakar said. He told reporters at the State House in
Abuja, after joining other Muslims in
government to pay homage to
President Goodluck Jonathan, that a
professional police officer is not a
politician who could be drawn into politics. He said Mbu had been charged to be a
professional police officer, providing
safety and security for Rivers State. Said the police chief: “The situation is
okay. We are not politicians; we
cannot be brought into the politics of
this country. Professional police
officers are supposed to do what they
are supposed to do to protect lives and property and that is why we
remain where we are and we charge
the commissioner of police to be a
professional police officer, providing
safety and security for the good
people and development of Rivers State.” The Senate and the House of
Representatives have passed
resolutions directing the IG to
redeployed Mbu from Rivers State. The IGP said he would not run a
corrupt police service. He spoke on insinuations in some
quarters that the dismissal of the
police officer caught receiving bribe in
Lagos State was too harsh. He vowed not to condone corruption,
saying the police would adopt various
strategies to discourage corruption. “You can see that we are IT-compliant;
we know what is happening on You
Tube; we know what is happening all
over the world. And because we
believe that we have to do what is
right, we warn our officers and men; sometimes we set them up to ensure
that we get them in the act. And so
whoever is caught in the act is
dismissed. “There is a process that is going on. If
the man, against who corruption has
taken place, is willing and ready to
come and give evidence in court, the
culprit will be charged to court,”
Abubakar said. On the claim that the decision to
dismiss the policeman was harsh, he
said: “For somebody who is corrupt, I
will not run a corrupt police service. “We shall continue to pray and I want
to use the opportunity to thank
Nigerians for their support, for their
cooperation, for their partnership in
fighting crime and criminality in this
country. And equally, to thank our officers and men of the Nigerian Police
and other security agencies for these
collaboration and partnership, we
want to thank the media for their
support in the fight against
criminality. ”thenationonlineng.net/new/mbu-remains-rivers-police-chief-says-ig/
PoliticsMy Father Was a Gambler,Drug Addict-Godogodo. by wengerjay(op): 11:17am On Aug 08, 2013
Notorious South-West
robbery czar, Abiodun Ogunjobi, aka,
Godogodo, has said that lack of
parental care was responsible for his
becoming a deadly robber. Godogodo who has terrorized the
zone for over 14 years, leading most
bank robberies and other deadly
operations, told Vanguard, yesterday,
during an interview at the state Police
Command headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos, that his parents abandoned him at an
early age to fend for himself. The compound where Godogodo was
arrested. The 36-year-old man, who spoke in
emotional laden voice, said he was the
eldest of the children and his mother
who he said was a sickler, died from
her sickness. My father was a wayward man “My father was a wayward man. He
was a drug addict and a gambler. My
mother was a sickler and she died
after giving birth to my youngest
brother. “But my father, who got married to
another woman, didn’t bother to take
care of me. As a little child I struggled
through primary school, picking
bottles, iron and rubber from refuse
dump. “The little money I made from it was
what I used in paying my school fees
in primary school and after I
graduated I went into the business of
robbery fully. “As a little boy I was sleeping on the
street and my father didn’t care. All he
cared about was to gamble away his
money and take drugs. “Gradually I started stealing and when
I got of age I started robbing people
at Katangura market, Iyana-Ipaja, but
in 1999, I was arrested and sent to
prison for fighting and when I came
back some of the boys who were operating with me then had become
big time robbers. I joined them and in
one of our operations, I was shot in
the eyes by some vigilante men that
accosted us in Ogun State and I ended
up losing one of my eyes. “I would say after that incident I
became tough and very careful. I don’t
socialise, drink, smoke or go after
women. I saw those things as
weakness that could give out a tough
man. I have 3 children from 3 women “I have three children from three
women. I ran away from my other
wives because the police wanted to
use them to arrest me. “I also want to make it clear that I
didn’t participate in all the robbery
operations the police are accusing me
of. People like me because I am not
greedy, I make sure everybody gets
their own share after a successful operation. “Some of these boys also go out on
their own to rob and when they are
arrested they will tell the police that
they are my boys. “I can’t lie anymore, I have been
arrested. All I want is for the police to
give me a second chance. I will assist
them arrest all the robbers in Lagos
and South-West.” Godogodo coordinated Ogun, Kwara
robberies —Suspect Meantime, a suspected robber, Felix
Sunday, aka, K Money, who took part
in two bank robberies in Kwara State
and a bullion van robbery, in Ogun
State, this year has said that Godogodo
coordinated the robberies. Sunday, who was arrested March
2013, after a deadly robbery attack at
the Murtala Muhammed International
Airport, Lagos, where he and
members of his gang killed two
policemen and carted away huge sums of money from bureau de
change operators at the airport, told
Vanguard that on January 2013,
Godogodo and his right hand man,
Odun Paul, led them to rob in Oro
town, Kwara State. “We were 12 in number and we went
for that operation with eight AK-47
rifles. We struck at the banks around
5pm that day and we started shooting
indiscriminately. People ran away for
safety and a member of the gang who is a dynamite expert blew open the
bank doors with dynamite. “We went into FirstBank and carted
away all the money in it and
afterwards we struck at the opposite
bank and did the same. “Nobody was killed in that operation
because we operated unchallenged,
after which we drove to Ondo State
where we shared our loot. “I got N500,000 as my share and I
was happy. “Few weeks after that operation,
Godogodo called us for a bullion van
operation. We attacked the van along
Ijebu-Ode Sagamu Road in Ogun State
and opened fire on the van which was
not armoured. “We over-powered the policemen and
took over the van containing both
local and foreign currencies and we
shared it. “Godogodo was a source of
inspiration to all of us and whenever
we had him around in an operation,
we don’t fear the police. “He had the ability to confront the
police and overpower them. We didn’t
know he was going to be arrested this
easily. He has boasted severally that
he is going to kill a lot of policemen
whenever they come for him and he did not care dying before his arrest. I
don’t know how the police did it but
Godogodo is tough. ”www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/my-father-was-a-gambler-drug-addict-godogodo/

Mimiko has used the Workers unions and dumped them.
PoliticsOndo NLC, Mimiko At War Over Mass Sack. by wengerjay(op): 6:39am On Aug 08, 2013
The leadership of the Nigeria Labour
Congress (NLC) in Ondo State and the
Governor Olusegun Mimiko
administration are at war over the
retrenchment of 10,000 local
government workers. The NLC leaders accused the
government of deliberately sacking
their colleagues on the pretext of
being ghost workers. The national and state leadership of
the NLC mobilised workers to the
campaign rallies of Dr. Mimiko before
last year’s governorship election. At a news conference yesterday,
organised by leaders of the Nigeria
Union of Local Government Employees
(NULGE), Joint Negotiation Council
(JNC), Trade Union’s Congress (TUC),
Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and chaired by the NLC state Chairman, Mrs.
Bosede Daramola, they faulted a
report credited to the Commissioner
for Information, Mr. Kayode
Akinmade, on the affairs of the local
governments in the state. Akinmade was quoted as saying that
the government has saved N500
million monthly following the
verification exercise it embarked
upon, which resulted in the sacking of
those the government tagged “ghost workers” in the councils. Besides, the commissioner claimed
that workers had been paid June and
July salary. But the NLC chairman said the
purported statement of Mimiko’s aide
was deceitful, misinformed and an
attempt to praise- sing the
government. She said workers in the councils were
yet to receive their March salary,
adding that no civil servant in the state
had received salary for June and July. Mrs. Daramola said: “After the
verification exercise in the state
service, including the councils, primary
and secondary schools, to our dismay,
only yesterday, the government-
owned newspaper reported that Ondo State Government has raked in a
whopping N500 million monthly
following the discovery of over
10,000 ghost workers in the local
government service. “It is amazing that government
spokesperson could said that we have
10,000 ghost workers in the local
government service of Ondo State. “The report of a committee set up by
the government and headed by Deji
Falae, which the Commissioner for
Information made reference to,
declared all workers employed
between 2009 to date as ghost workers. “Not only this, 3,200 senior workers
were declared as ghost workers,
which include the NULGE state
Chairman. As I speak today, the senior
workers labelled as ghost workers
have been cleared. I still don’t know who is fooling who? “In the report, the government
spokesperson said that the June and
July salaries have been paid, but as at
today, the salaries of local government
workers have not been paid. Cheque
has not been written not to talk of issuance of cheque or paying to the
accounts of the workers. I don’t know
the magical hands the government is
using. “The statement of the Commissioner
for Information in the newspaper
report reads: ‘You can imagine people
collecting salary for workers in
schools that are not in existence at all.
Some workers have not been to their offices in the councils in the last four
years.’ “My question is that if they are
workers, can they be ghosts? To my
understand, ghost is invisible, they are
not human beings, so if there are
sharp practices anywhere, it is quite
different from saying that they are ghost workers. ”thenationonlineng.net/new/ondo-nlc-mimiko-at-war-over-mass-sack/
SportsRonaldo Powers Real Over Chelsea;Madrid 3 Chelsea 1. by wengerjay(op):
Cristiano Ronaldo gave his former
coach one more dazzling display of his
skills, and delivered a trophy to Real
Madrid in the process. Ronaldo scored a pair of highlight
goals, lifting Real Madrid to a 3-1
victory over Chelsea in the final of the
Guinness International Champions
Cup on Wednesday night. Marcelo Vieira also scored for Real,
which became the event's inaugural
champion by topping a Chelsea club
now being coached by Jose Mourinho.
He left Madrid earlier this year for a
return to Chelsea, and after years of enjoying watching Ronaldo frustrate
opponents, it was Mourinho who
couldn't find a way to stop him. Ramires scored for Chelsea, which
posted a pair of shutouts to get into
the championship match before
67 273 fans at Sun Life Stadium, home
of the NFL's Miami Dolphins. The colorful Mourinho took what were
considered a few subtle jabs at Real
Madrid leading up to the Guinness
final, though Ronaldo took the high
ground when asked about his former
coach. After all, this was supposed to be merely an exhibition between two
strong teams, part of their preseason
preparations. The way they played certainly didn't
suggest this one was meaningless. ''I would expect those two teams to
play it seriously,'' said Los Angeles
Galaxy forward Landon Donovan,
whose team fell to AC Milan earlier
Wednesday in the third-place match of
the eight-team event. Donovan was proven correct. With the match tied at 1 in the 30th
minute, Ronaldo was the recipient of a
hard foul from behind by Branislav
Ivanovic. Ronaldo merely smiled as he
sat on the turf, adjusting his uniform
while most of the other players convened for a bit of shouting. Ronaldo got his revenge on the
resulting free kick. From about 25
yards, his strike curled to the left,
sneaking just under the crossbar and
off the fingertips of diving goalkeeper
Petr Cech. And in the 57th minute, Ronaldo
struck again, perfectly timing his run
toward the goal line and sending in a
header for a two-goal advantage. That
left Mourinho with a blank expression,
and the outcome essentially decided. Ronaldo had the crowd frenzied at
that point, including one fan who got
onto the field later in the game.
Wearing a Ronaldo jersey, he was able
to not just get to the Real Madrid star,
but wrap him in an embrace near the sideline and share some words for
several seconds before police officers
escorted the man off the field. Real opened the scoring in the 14th
minute. Vieira dribbled into the
penalty area and skipped a shot
through defender Gary Cahill and into
the right side of the net. Chelsea got the equalizer quickly.
Ramires split two defenders and went
in against goalkeeper Iker Casillas,
who charged off his line to cut down
the angle. His effort was in vain, as
Ramires flicked the ball softly over him and into the net. Chelsea had three great chances in the
first seven minutes of the second half
to tie it again, the best of those when
Eden Hazard got behind a defender
and carried the ball in alone against
Casillas. The keeper sprung off his line to make the save and protect the one-
goal lead. Ronaldo's second goal came five
minutes later. mobi.supersport.com/football/pre-season-tour/news/130808/Ronaldo_powers_Real_past_Chelsea
SportsSuarez Tells Liverpool;fulfil Your Promise And Sell Me. by wengerjay(op): 8:59am On Aug 07, 2013
Arsenal have made a £40m plus £1 bid
for the striker, who insists the Anfield
outfit agreed to let him leave for a
Champions League club after the Reds
failed to crack the top four Luis Suarez has urged Liverpool to honour their agreement and allow him
to leave for a Champions League club this summer. The Uruguay international has been
the subject of two recent offers from
Arsenal, who bid £40 million for the
striker plus an additional £1 in order
to trigger a release clause Suarez
insists exists in the contract extension he signed 12 months ago. Liverpool rejected the offer, but Suarez
is adamant the club told him he would
be able to move if the Anfield outfit
failed to qualify for Europe's premier
club competition. "Last year I had the opportunity to
move to a big European club and I
stayed on the understanding that if we
failed to qualify for the Champions
League the following season I'd be
allowed to go," Suarez told The Guardian. "I gave absolutely everything last
season but it was not enough to give
us a top-four finish – now all I want is
for Liverpool to honour our
agreement." Suarez also indicated he is ready to
take his case to the Premier League in
an attempt to make the move happen. He continued: "I have the club's word
and we have the written contract and
we are happy to take this to the
Premier League for them to decide the
case but I do not want it to come to
that. "I don't feel betrayed, but the club
promised me something a year ago
just as I promised them that I would
stay and try everything possible to get
us into the Champions League. "They gave me their word a year ago
and now I want them to honour that.
And it is not just something verbal
with the coach but something that is
written in the contract. I'm not going
to another club to hurt Liverpool." Though he stopped short of
specifically mentioning a desire to
move to Arsenal, Suarez gave Arsene
Wenger's side encouragement that
they might yet secure his services by
revealing he saw no problem in moving to another Premier League
club, despite previously citing the
intrusive English media as reason for
him to seek a move abroad. He added: "Right now the Premier
League is the biggest and most
important league. My record shows
that I'm not the kind of player who
wants to change clubs every season
and I would have no problem playing in England for many more years. "If we are just talking about the level
of the football and the way the
supporters are then it is an incredible
league. Any player in the world at the
moment would like to play here. "It is not as if I am asking to move to a
local rival. And I would not consider
moving to a club outside the
Champions League."

Jose Mourinho has a golden
opportunity to make a point to Real
Madrid when the Chelsea manager
faces his old club in Miami on
Wednesday. Mourinho will go head to head with
Madrid in the final of the International
Champions Cup just three months after
his acrimonious departure from the
Spanish giants. After feeling unloved for much of his
time in Madrid, the Portuguese coach is
enjoying his second spell at Chelsea,
where he is treated with total respect
following his Premier League title
triumphs in 2005 and 2006. Jose Mourinho The hero worship that follows his
every move in the Premier League is a
far cry from the hostile reaction to his
presence in Spain. By the time he departed Madrid,
Mourinho had made numerous
enemies among the squad, with his
decision to drop iconic goalkeeper
Iker Casillas an especially sore point,
as well as falling out with some of the club’s hierarchy, while fans jeered the
manager in the final weeks of last
season. However, Mourinho’s exit and the
arrival of the more affable Carlo
Ancelotti as his replacement has been
the trigger for the kind of spending
spree that the out-spoken 50-year-old
would have relished. While Mourinho was always given
fairly substantial funds for signing
during his time at Madrid, since his exit
Real owner Florentino Perez has given
the green light to a spending spree
that is likely to approach £150 million ($230 million, 170 million euros) by
the close of the transfer window. In a bid to make a fresh start after
Mourinho’s divisive spell, Perez has
already splashed out £63 million on
Asier Illarramendi, Isco, Daniel Carvajal
and Casemiro. But the biggest purchase is still to
come, with the nine-time European
champions on the verge of signing
Wales winger Gareth Bale from
Tottenham for a world record fee of
around £85 million. If the Bale deal goes through it will be
the fifth successive time Real have
broken the transfer record. Since signing Luis Figo for £37 million
in 2000, Real have gone on to shatter
their own record with swoops for
Zinedine Zidane, Kaka and Cristiano
Ronaldo. Yet none of those deals occurred
during Mourinho’s reign and he may
be wondering why he wasn’t afford
such riches. Perez is also reported to have rubber-
stamped a new five-year contract to
keep Ronaldo onside after some
trademark pouting from the forward
last season, with the lucrative deal set
to increase his annual salary to £14.8 million after tax. Little wonder that Mourinho, speaking
to ESPN on Sunday, took the
opportunity for a swipe at Madrid’s
culture of political intrigue. “Madrid is politics. Madrid is not about
football, Madrid is not about sport,” he
said. Mourinho also had a dig at Ronaldo by
declaring “the real Ronaldo” was the
Brazilian international who featured
for AC Milan, Real Madrid and
Barcelona, where the two worked
together during Mourinho’s tenure as translator and assistant coach in 1996
and 1997. Madrid’s spending is in stark contrast
to the more austere times at Stamford
Bridge. While Mourinho was given a king’s
ransom during his first spell at Chelsea,
billionaire owner Roman Abramovich
keeps a tighter hold on his cheque
book these days. Mourinho had coveted the likes of
Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani
this summer, but missed out on both. With Chelsea’s interest in Wayne
Rooney yet to persuade Manchester
United to part with the England striker,
Mourinho’s biggest signing since
returning is the £18 million move for
Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schurrle. In the circumstances, Mourinho would
clearly relish the opportunity to give
his former employers a reality check in
Wednesday’s glamour friendly. But Mourinho’s comments have fired
up Real as well, with Ronaldo
responding by saying: “We are facing
Chelsea, not their coach. Although it’s
like any other game, we want to win. “As we say in Portugal: ‘I don’t spit on
the plate I eat on’. That’s how I feel. I
prefer to try and remember the
positive side (to Mourinho).” AFP www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/mourinho-ready-for-real-grudge-match/

SportsRonaldo Signs New 75m Pounds Mega Deal by wengerjay(op): 9:03pm On Aug 05, 2013
Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly
signed a new five-year deal with Real
Madrid worth £75million to keep him
at the club for the rest of his career. The Portugal forward had been linked
with an emotional return to
Manchester United but seems to have
settled his differences with the La Liga
giants. Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo
celebrates after scoring. AFP PHOTO But he will instead hope to link up
with Gareth Bale should the Wales star
complete his protracted, world-record
move from Tottenham. Madrid-based newspaper Marca
reports that Ronaldo will earn around
£900,000 more each season than
Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi,
making him the highest-paid player in
Spain. The 28-year-old is believed to have
struck a deal with Real to increase his
share of his image rights, which
previously stood at 60 per cent. Ronaldo, who cost Madrid £80million
in 2009, met with club president
Florentino Perez in Los Angeles and
the pair ironed out their differences.
The former United and Sporting Lisbon
player had remained coy on his future at a press conference over the
weekend. ‘The situation still hasn’t been resolved
and I don’t think now is the right time
to talk about it,’ he said. ‘Perhaps we’ll be able to give more
concrete news about this further
down the line but now the only thing
in my remit is to train and work.’ www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/ronaldo-signs-new-75m-mega-dea/

SportsCrsitiano Is Not The 'real' Ronaldo-mourinho. by wengerjay(op): 1:11pm On Aug 05, 2013
The two-time Champions League
winner has previously claimed that his
compatriot "thinks he knows
everything" Jose Mourinho has taken another swipe at Cristiano Ronaldo by claiming that that his fellow Portuguese is not
the "real" Ronaldo. The Chelsea boss, who recently stated
that his former charge at Real Madrid
"thinks he knows everything",
insinuated that he has more respect
for Brazil legend Ronaldo, with whom
he worked during his time at Barcelona under the guidance of
Bobby Robson. "I was manager for the first time in the
2000 year but, before that, I was
assistant in big clubs and with big
managers and coaching the best
players in the world, so I was 30 and I
was coaching Ronaldo, not this one [Cristiano], the real one, the Brazilian
Ronaldo," Mourinho told ESPN. "I was coaching Rivaldo, I was
coaching [Luis] Figo, I was coaching
[Pep] Guardiola, I was coaching big
players when I was very, very young. "So, at that time, I was not the
manager, I was just an assistant but I
was feeling that I had, in my hands,
some potential and after that I start my
career in the year 2000 and after four
years I won my first Champions League and, after that, everything
comes as a consequence." Mourinho left Camp Nou in 2000 to
coach Benfica but it was at rivals Porto
that he became a household name on
the back of their remarkable
Champions League success in 2004. Mourinho: Chelsea www.goal.com/en-ng/news/4099/spain/2013/08/03/4162645/cristiano-is-not-the-real-ronaldo-mourinho?ICID=HP_PN_1

Africa’s Bafana Bafana has started to
reach the real actors of the game, with
Chelsea of England’s Victor Moses, declaring that he has missed his

cannot wait for the Mandale Challenge
to reunite with them. Super Eagles Scribe Dayo Enebi Achor,
was quoted by Media Officer, Ben

first player to put a call though to the
team to say he will be available for the

by the national team stars for the
game, Obinna Nsofor, has been
making desperate enquiries about his

also promised to be early for the game in South Africa’s warmest city of

concerted enquiries about the friendly
so far include power playing Lazio of
Italy midfield ace, Ogenyi Onazi, wing
wizard Ahmed Musa and slow poison
striker Brown Aide Ideye.Arrival for all the players according to the NFF
remains, Sunday, August 11 in South
Africa for the game scheduled for
Wednesday, August 14. Similarly, the NFF leadership through
the Secretary General, Barr Musa
Amadu, has reacted quickly to an
initial position of Russian side, Spartak
Moscow, that it will not release CAN
2013 goleador Emmanuel Emenike for the Mandela challenge. “The NFF will
not accept any of such claims that it’s
not a FIFA free window, because it is
and as I speak with you the NFF Scribe
has also made his position known to
Spartak”, team sources declared. Indications are that all invited players
for the prestige international friendly
in honour of Africa’s formost
nationalist, Dr Nelson Mandela will be
available for the encounter from the
Nigerian perspective, as the NFF is determined to counter any move
from foreign based clubsides to deny
Nigeria the services of the players. “Don’t forget that the game is also a
dress rehearsal for the September
World Cup qualifier against the Flames
of Malawi and we can’t afford to let
anything to chance”, the NFF Scribe
was quoted as saying. www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/moses-nsofor-desperate-for-bafana-bafana/
