A former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Agagu, is dead. He was aged 65. Agagu, who returned from the US on Thursday, reportedly slumped in Ikoyi, where he was having a meeting with Ondo indigenes, on Friday evening. Agagu’s former Chief Press Secretary, Yemi Olowolabi, said the former governor was not sick and had just returned from a 20-day trip abroad. Olowolabi, who worked with him for more than four years, described his former boss as “a great man, a first- class intellectual and an astute administrator.” Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, described the death of his predecessor as shocking, adding that Ondo has lost a colossus, whose vacuum would be difficult to fill. Mimiko said, “He would be remembered as a consummate politician and lecturer, who imparted knowledge to many people across the world.” Former Governor of Ogun State, Segun Osoba, told Saturday PUNCH on telephone that Agagu was very respectful. He said, “I got to know him when he was deputy to former governor of old Ondo State, Bamidele Olomilua. He carried himself with dignity. He was loyal to Olomilua during the days of the Social Democratic Party. Agagu should rest in peace.” In his reaction, former governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, described Agagu’s death as shocking. He said, “It is sad. He came back from abroad yesterday with his wife. They were having a meeting with Ondo State people. Alex Akinyele was there. He slumped. It is shocking, devastating. We will all miss him. I can’t believe he will just die.” Agagu’s schoolmate at the University of Ibadan, Senator Olu Alabi, who is a former Governing Board Chairman, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, said, “We were together in UI. We co- funded United Nigerian Congress Party and the Peoples Democratic Party. I don’t know what to tell his wife, Funke.” Member, PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, said: “This is tragic news. I’m shattered. He never held grudges.” Director of Publicity, Ondo PDP, Mr Ayodele Fadaka, who broke down in tears over the phone, described the death of the late geologist as great loss to Ondo and Nigeria. It was gathered that he ate lunch at home in Ikoyi before heading for a meeting on Lagos mainland, where he slumped. Subsequently, he was rushed to a private hospital in Yaba but he was transferred to Military Hospital, Ikoyi, where he was pronounced dead. His corpse was still at the military hospital as at the time of filing this report. www.punchng.com/news/agagu-slumps-dies-at-65/ |

Adufaye: Saturday! If judgement is to be based on the adherence to the 10 commandments, wht wld be the faith of those of us who worship on Sunday then? |
In the Christianity world, majority of the christian followers worship on Sundays while very few christian faithfuls worship on Saturdays. On a serious note, which is the authentic Sabbath day btw Saturday and Sunday. The very few who worship on Saturdays are said to have based their arguement on the scripture;Exodus 20,8-11(4th commandment). '8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.' |

Nigeria international will play for Anfield giants Liverpool this season as a loan deal has been agreed for the winger. Both clubs finally agreed a £1m fee for the season-long loan switch for the Nigeria winger, according to the Guardian of UK. Moses, signed by Chelsea from Wigan Athletic last summer for £9m, has slipped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge after the summer arrivals of Willian and André Schürrle, and Kevin De Bruyne’s return from his loan spell at Werder Bremen. Chelsea have accumulated a number of players capable of operating from attacking midfield and the 23-year- old has been granted permission to seek first-team football elsewhere. Brendan Rodgers had earmarked him as a potential recruit earlier this summer and, despite Chelsea’s initial reluctance to loan the player to a Premier League rival, the Liverpool manager has now been given approval by the Europa League winners to pursue the deal. Moses was in Prague on Friday for Chelsea’s defeat to Bayern Munich in the Super Cup final, in which he did not feature, but has made clear his desire to move to Merseyside – despite interest from West Bromwich Albion, Southampton and Everton over the course of the summer – and will complete the move before Monday’s transfer deadline with the loan fee now agreed. www.vanguardngr.com/2013/09/liverpool-land-victor-moses/ |
Los Blancos have finally announced the arrival of the Wales international, who has usurped new team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo as the game's most expensive player Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur for a record-breaking €100 million. The Wales international succeeds new team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo as the game's most expensive player after penning a six-year contract with the Liga giants. Bale, who will be officially unveiled as a Madrid player at a press conference at 13:00CET on Monday, first came to prominence as a 16-year-old with Southampton before joining Tottenham in 2007. The then full-back initially struggled at White Hart Lane but he flourished after being converted into a winger, winning the PFA Players' Player of the Year in 2010-11. Bale collected the same prize last year, after scoring 26 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions. His fantastic form was not enough to earn Spurs a place in the Champions League but the 24-year-old will now feature in the competition this season after finally completing his drawn-out move to Madrid. Indeed, the deal had been expected to be completed last week but Spurs refused to sanction the transfer until replacements had been signed. However, after signing Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen, the English outfit belatedly gave Bale's move the greenlight. www.goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2013/09/01/4213730/real-madrid-sign-bale-for-world-record-fee?ICID=HP_HN_1 |

Arsene Wenger has finally sighed someone.Details to come later. |
ARSENE Wenger was left lamenting a “huge, huge blow” as Arsenal were beaten 3-1 by Aston Villa in their opening home game of the Premier League campaign. “It’s hugely disappointing to start the championship with a defeat,” he said, as he attempted to digest a growing list of problems with the season one game old. “We are there to spend money,” he said. “People say: ‘Buy players, buy players, buy players … ‘ But who? We analyse every single player in the world and work 24 hours a day for that. We are serious about it. Until we buy players we have to win football games.” Wenger was unhappy with the referee Anthony Taylor “I didn’t like his performance but more than his performance I didn’t like his spirit of how he refereed the game,” the Arsenal manager said: “The linesman said he to me he did not give the penalty and he was at the level of the tackle, so why does the referee who did not give the penalty straight away suddenly give the penalty? That is what is amazing to me.” Concerns stretch beyond an early setback as Wenger counted the cost of a series of new injuries. Kieran Gibbs, Bacary Sagna, Alex Oxlade- Chamberlain, Tomas Rosicky and Aaron Ramsey are all nursing problems. “As well as to lose the game, we have many injuries, many kicks, many on the treatment table,” Wenger said. “We have some trouble to recover some players for Wednesday night.” There is precious little time for Arsenal to recover before their Champions League qualifier against Fenerbahce. They travel to Turkey on Tuesday. Villa beat Arsenal thanks to two Christian Benteke goals and a late breakaway goal from the debutant Antonio Luna. Laurent Koscielny was sent off. www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/wenger-people-say-buy-but-who/ |
The Barcelona star has praised the match-winning quality of the Portuguese forward, but says he is only focused on matters at his own club Barcelona star Lionel Messi has dismissed the notion that he and Real Madrid counterpart Cristiano Ronaldo share a rivalry. The two players have dominated the individual awards in Spain and on the continent in recent years and while the Argentine has conceded that he is an admirer of the 28-year-old, he says he is focused on doing his job for the Blaugrana. "There is no rivalry [with Ronaldo] at all," the 26-year-old told Maxim. "He's a good person and can change any game. He does his thing and I'm just focused on succeeding with Barcelona." Messi was keen to stress that he wanted to focus on his personal goals and those of the club, with the Catalans' ambitions still high after the departure of Tito Vilanova. "We want to win titles in Spain and in Europe this season," he continued. "It was sad how Tito had to go, but now we are all with the new coach [Tata Martino]. "It is no coincidence that the Barcelona players keep low-profile lives and have achieved success. We know that we are footballers, not movie stars. When we're not training or playing, we are in home with our families." Barcelona begin their title defence on Sunday against Levante at Camp Nou. www.goal.com/en-ng/news/4099/spain/2013/08/18/4195177/there-is-no-rivalry-with-ronaldo-insists-messi?ICID=HP_BN_10 |
DMainMan: Arsenal wil wipe Astonvilla ruthlessly like say tomorrow no deWhat a consolatory comment! |
The National Unity Project (NUP), which is a group dedicated to the re- election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 has made a startling revelation that the group of five Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s governors of northern extraction known as G5, which has been traversing the landscape of Nigeria are not actually opposed to the Jonathan being returned as President in the next general elections but are mainly interested in replacing NamadiSambo as the Vice President. This was disclosed yesterday by the Convener, Mr. Igwekala Ugomaduefule, who charged journalists to expose the real motives of the five governors in the seeming opposition to the President's second term ambition. Ugomaduefule said the G5 that includes Governors RabiuKwankwaso of Kano State, AliyuWamakko of Sokoto state, SulehLamido of Jigawa State, Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State and MurtalaNyako of Adamawa had two missions, which were for one of them to become Jonathan's running mate and to mount pressure on him to make mistakes. He however, advised the warring governors to perish that idea because according to him; "there is no vacancy for the position of the Vice President" or any chances of the Jonathan replacing Sambo as his running mate. He noted that since the first Republic, no democratically elected Nigerian President had abandoned their Vice President as running mate during their second term bid, and that Jonathan must not be pressured to make such mistakes. His words: "I want to say that the so called four or five governors touring the nation in the name of Northern President or whatever is a ruse. There real missions are two; one they are seeking for the office of the Vice President, which I am here to tell you that it is not vacant. It can never be vacant because it has never happened in the country. From the time of Tafawa Abubakar Belewa as the prime minister to the present, none of them has ever abandoned their vice presidents as running mate, it has never happened. www.thisdaylive.com/articles/2015-g5-governors-want-sambos-seat-says-pro-jonathan-group/156510/ |
