The Chairmen of Ondo and Ekiti states could not have been signatories to the call for resignation of Oshiomhole as the National Chairman without the knowledge and approval of their state Governors,Akeredolu and Fayemi respectively. Akeredolu is battling to get the second ticket and he is being supported by Fayemi who people rumour to be eyeing the position of the Vice President in 2023. The battle has just begun |
Some aggrieved members of the National Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress, numbering 43, have demanded the resignation of the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole. The aggrieved NEC members at a press briefing on Friday night in Abuja after NEC meeting accused Oshiomhole of abruptly ending the NEC meeting. The Zamfara State APC Chairman, Lawal Liman, who spoke on their behalf, said most of the goodwill acquired by the party at inception had taken a downturn under the former Edo State governor. He said, “The APC was founded as a platform for the progressives in Nigeria in 2014, with ‘change’ as the slogan of the party. “The party was positively embraced by the citizens of Nigeria, culminating in record-breaking victory of President Muhammadu Buhari, as the first opposition leader to defeat an incumbent President. “Most of the goodwill acquired by the party, by reasons of its religious adherence to the provisions of its constitution and the tenets of internal democratic practices has taken a downturn, principally due to dictatorial and despotic tendencies of the national chairman, who has usurped the powers of the national Executive Committee of the party. “This may have been responsible for the admonition of Mr President who insisted that the party organs, at the state, LGA and ward levels, must be strengthened and accorded due respect with regards to the powers and responsibilities conferred on them by the constitution of the party. “Most unfortunately the facade presented by the national chairman, today, at a National Executive Committee meeting, leaves much to be desired. He completely ignored Mr President’s advice and rather defied all known rules for meetings by precluding contributions from members and ending the meeting abruptly, without achieving anything. This is most unfortunate and undesirable. “Arising from the foregoing and having regards to the huge responsibilities bestowed on us as officers of the party and in the overriding interest of our members, we are left with no option but to demand that Adams Oshiomhole resign his position as national chairman, in order to stem the slide and provide an enabling environment for genuine healing, reconciliation and the practice of true democracy, within the party across the country.” The signatories to the call for Oshiomhole’s removal included Bala Kangiwa (Kebbi Chairman), Habibi Sara (Jigawa Chairman), Ade Adetimehin (Ondo Chairman), Abdullahi Abbas (Kano Chairman), Abba Yaro (Benue Chairman), Omotoso Paul (Ekiti) and Mohammed Iman (Niger Chairman). They also included Anslem Ojezua (Edo Chairman), Philips Shekwo (Nasarawa Chairman), Air Com Ikeda (Kaduna Chairman), Lakep Dabah (Plateau Chairman), Shitu Shitu (Katsina Chairman), Isah Acida (Sokoto) and Zonal Youth Leader (South West), Lawal Bolade https://punchng.com/aggrieved-nec-members-ask-oshiomhole-to-resign/.

Few weeks to the forthcoming governorship election in Kogi State, the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, said it would set up a committee that would work for Governor Yahaya Bello to win his re-election bid. Adetimehin stated this during a meeting between the APC’s State Working Committee and leaders of the Igbo, Hausa, and Ibira communities in the state, at the state party secretariat in Akure, Ondo State, on Wednesday. I am not surprised. Wike knows that Atiku is using the post election court cases to maintain his popularity in preparation for the 2023 presidential election. And there are many people from the south who are interested in the contest and expect the south to get the ticket. Atiku may be left alone to pursue his case to the Supreme Court. |

The 16 most prominent traditional rulers in Ekiti State, the Pelupelu Obas, have dragged the state Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, before the court on the appointment of the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Alabi, as the chairman of the state traditional council. The monarchs, in the suit with registration number HAD/76/2019, filed before an Ado Ekiti High Court, are seeking the nullification of the appointment. They said, the governor’s action of picking someone outside the 16 obas as chairman was a violation of the Ekiti State Chieftaincy Law. In an originating summons filed by Dr B. A. Ajibade (SAN) on August 7, 2019 and deposed to by Ajero of Ijero, Oba Joseph Adewole, on behalf of other 15 obas, the monarchs are seeking an interlocutory injunction restraining Fayemi from swearing in Alawe as the chairman of the council. Respondents in the suit are Fayemi (1st); the Attorney General of Ekiti State, Wale Fapohunda (2nd); and Oba Alabi (3rd). Fayemi had, a fortnight ago, appointed Oba Alabi as the traditional council chairman to serve for a period of two years following the expiration of the tenure of Oloye of Oye Ekiti, Oba Oluwole Ademolaju. The 16 traditional rulers are, among others, seeking a declaration of the court “that the 3rd respondent can’t be appointed as chairman of the council in compliance with the Ekiti State Traditional Council Law. “A declaration that the appointment of the 3rd defendant by the 1st was a flagrant violation of the law, unlawful, null and void, unjustifiable, illegal and unsustainable. “An order nullifying the appointment of the 3rd defendant as the chairman of the state council of traditional rulers.” It also sought, “An order of perpetual injunction restraining the 1st defendant from swearing in the 3rd defendant as chairman of the traditional council and other relevant orders as deem first by the court. “Whether the 1st defendant is empowered under Council of Traditional Rulers Law, Cap 15, Laws of Ekiti State 2012 to appoint the chairman of Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers on a bi-annual rotational basis from among only class of Obas constituted Alademerindinlogun/Pelupelu Obas of Ekiti State. “Declaration that the claimants are the only valid authentic obas or traditional rulers under the classification of Alademerindinlogun qualified to be so appointed as chairman.” The 16 obas had, in a letter to the governor on August 2 and signed by 15 Pelupelu Obas with the exception of the Oore of Otun, Oba Adedapo Popoola, who was abroad, urged Fayemi to reverse the action. They stated that they were opposed to the appointment and threatened that they would not attend the inauguration of Alawe as council chairman and any meeting of the council he would preside over. “We respectfully state that we would be creating a bad precedent to accept to sit under a chairmanship of Alawe as it would amount to a disregard for the tradition on earth and a sin against our forefathers,” the monarchs statedhttps://punchng.com/top-monarchs-sue-fayemi-over-traditional-council-chair/ |
