passion007: There was no scare mongering. NEMA stated the fact. Sometimes, we don't give our local efforts enough credit.Does Ondo state have communities with coastal boundaries along River Niger and Benue? Did Ondo state suffer from the devastating floods of 2012? If your answer is no then we are talking about different things. |
Orji o orji: I have never had the oposition party making postive contribution on how to end the strike if realy have the nigerians at heart. All they do is criticism without sense of seasoning .Yeah! I bet those guys never heard of Maggi, Royco and Knorr! ASUU abeg make una call off this strike make una carry una products ooooo! |
Bereal247: The statement credited to NEMA is called prediction because it's enshrouded in probability. In all probable event there is always the chance that it may not happen which is what we are experiencing/have experienced. My dear you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. The level of scaremongering adopted by NEMA would be leading to serious litigation in advanced climes. People were given the impression of a Clear and Present Danger! |
I personally believe the farcical prediction is enough for someone to lose his job. You guys need to understand the level of distortion this prediction caused in riverine communities that experienced last year's traumatic floods. Accomplished farmers refused to plough their land for fear of losing their crops as they did last year with most resorting to cultivating only basic quick maturing crops, needless to say lots of households bore the brunt of a baseless prediction. I know of at least one large scale plantain farming family that makes close to a 100k in weekly harvests and suffered the devastation of last years floods but had to sit out this farming season due to those warnings, they are now neck deep in debt! I've seen data collected from an ongoing nationwide research on rice cultivation and of interest was the lack of cultivation of the crop in certain local goverments in Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers state that hitherto had an appreciable number of rice farmers, I'd thought those areas were not covered due to accessibility but was told farmers there had to shelve their planting plans due to the flood warnings - we are talking of entire local governments in at least thrre states here! You can extrapolate on the combined effects of the warning on entire farming communities along the coast of the Niger and Benue that had no choice but to sit out the farming season. The question remain: on what basis were this warnings issued? Did these guys have the capacity to issue warnings a year ahead ( the warnings were issued before the rains started!). Last years flood was the worse in living memory, I remember an old man while recounting the story said he'd marked on the wall of his fathers the extent of the greatest flood he'd witnessed that occured during the civil war (1967) as at when he was speaking, his entire house was already under water! To put it in context, NIMET's warning said this years floods would be greater than last years! Now do you understand the level of apprehension these people were needlessly put into especially as state and local government authorities had to drum this into their ears believing they were preparing them for the inevitable? I believe NIMET should be made to answer some very serious questions here. What went wrong? Who goofed? Who's the alrmist that doesnt deserve tax payers money? The DG ought to talke some responsibilty and apologise for distorting peoples lives bigtime. |
Like he predicted 2go was going to kill its users, a lion would come out in the streets of Warri and maul residents etc? Forgive me but I dont believe he said this - I stand to be proven wrong afterall he did say a while back he would quit talking about football because of the frequent abuses he receives after every prediction. In any case their services holds on Saturdays and Sundays so who did he speak to on Tuesday? Search online and you'll only see thesame vague and empty quote duplicated in the sites that carry the story. |
^ He just challenged you to name your unifarsity! |
take dat: "Suswam disclosed that government had already released the N30billion in question the previous day to the Ministry of Education which will in turn release it to the governing councils of the institutions and was then appealing to lecturers to return to work. 'We have appealed to ASUU to take this initial sum and verify how much each person is owed. If at the end of the day, we find out we underpaid, we make up for the deficit but ASUU has refused this strategy, insisting that the entire lump sum of N92billion be paid to them upfront,' he said"Bros, I've told you to carry your mumu go far havent I? My first post on this subject was on the secrecy surrounding the internal disbursements by ASUU yet your dumbass is still looking for online proof to be convinced. Dude you have a very virulent form of idiocy and I do not want to have anything to do with it. Thanks in advance for getting lost. |
alexleo: Must you lie to support Jonathan? Didn't you read the news of how unilorin staff were quarrelling over how to share the 30 billlion eveb when they are not part of the ASUU struggle and ASUU told them that nobody is going to share the money until FG completes it? I have lecturer friends accross universities and NON of them have received any share of the earned allowances. You people can lie and its a shame. Jonathan came on media chat and told us that state universities have no conection with the ASUU strike but go to the link below and you ll see that state universities are going to benefit from this 100 billion naira. Horrible liars.Dude, you have NO lecturer friends in a federal university or you have a bunch of liars for friends. That money was disbursed weeks ago and I'm not asking but TELLING YOU! |
SLIDE waxie: dnt kill urself cos we all heard N30b was disbursed as part payment for allowance being owed, and the news was here and aired.Oh! So you mean a human being with just two eyes and two ears heard that? Perhaps the mofo still arguing needs an extra pair of ears. |
take dat: Just admit that you've been owned! Hypocrite!I admit I was owned by an ignoramus, satisfied? Oya carry your mumu dey go. |
^ |
take dat: Purveyor of falsehood, Why not provide a link/source where it was reported that members of ASUU have received their allowance instead of this jejune reply? Wasn't it reported that FG had disbursed N100billion to the universities, which the VC's have now denied? Don't be a naïve, just because the government says it has released the money does not mean the lecturers have received it. This things take time and lots of bureaucratic challenges( it will have to pass through the CBN, Ministry of finance, Accountant General's office, budget office, ministry of education, NUC down to the universities). Provision was not made for the N30billion allowance and N100billion intervention in the budget or the Mid Term Expenditure Framework(MTEF), so government will have to source for the funds separately.Feel free to continue wallowing in your ignorance. Ignorance they say is bliss afterall! |
^ Remind me again, what was her statement that got you so upset? |
Demdem: Fool, goons like u dont honour agreement in real life. Having agreed with ur employee to pay a certain amount when a job is done, u come around after the job is done and ask for renegotiation. U are obviously a crook no doubt. Peeps like u dont end well.Dedemoron, so why didnt the govt that signed the agreement begin the payment? Why was the agreement never implemented in all 4 years it was signed and 4 ask you again like I've asked every ignorant mofo that keeps spewin garbage over something they know nothing about: have you seen the agreement? |
I just liked your comment because of the last sentence. The people we even insult here most times hardly have time like us to be on internet. It doesnt matter where they are from. What matters most is for us to always criticize our leaders constructively. We can even use harsh words to drive home our points but not calling them names like that poster. Most times when i see words like RETARDEEN, FVCKTARD, SLOWPOKE etc being used to refer to Mr President, i marvel at the level of decadence internet use has exposed us to. One thing is hiding behind all this funny and crazy sounding monickers insulting our leaders. Question is, can we really say things we say if suddenly we are all compelled to regularize our NL accounts with our real data?
You made me wish I could click like more than once. Thank you for your words. @topic, The ball is now in ASUU'S court, lets see if they'll insist on their |
take dat: Seems you are out to malign ASUU with half truths. When did ASUU receive the N30billion? The N30billion is still a promise just like the N100billion intervention fund. The same way it was reported that government released N100billion to the universities only for the VC's to claim two months after that they are yet to receive the money. Are you not aware that government has stopped their salaries?Sorry dude, you're terribly uninformed. That ASUU have disbursed a year's allowance to members is old news its been discussed a dozen times over on this forum and proven beyond reasonable doubt. Please do yourself a favour and get informed before throwing lame accusations. |
^ Shut up and educate yourself before spewing crap you bloody ignoramus. Have you seen the so called agreement? Rubbish |
So why didnt they shout to the press also when they received and distributed 30billion amongst themselves? If this isnt evidence of their greed then i wonder what is. While money to revamp the education sector (the reason they supposedly are on strike) is still pending ASUU received and shared their 30billion and stayed mute about it so why would anyone be in a hurry to dole out more funds to a bunch of folks that seem to uphold avarice as a virtue? |
^ Pls dont waste your time responding to him, the dude is an unrepentant troll with his head permanently configured to malfunction. No matter how much sense you make he's going to choose to stay stupid. |
^ Some of you are just terribly unreasonable. |
So why have ASUU refused to meet with the Student Unionn leaders regardless of whatever perception they have? Let me guess, Pride and total disregard for the people they are supposed to be fighting for. Exactly the same attitude they have in schools where they are demi - gods that must be obeyed by the perpetually neophyte students, right or wrong! Apparently students do not know what is good for them, no wonder the agreement in question had zero input from students who bear the brunt of ASUU members persistent misdeeds. Who'll fight for students? Certainly not this present bunch of selfish self acclaimed money grabbing intellectuals. |
1wolex85: Sir, first of all, can you paste that agreement for all to see? I would like to remind you sir, that this agreement was signed during the worst global meltdown in the world in decades. If they are now saying these requests are outrageous, why did they sign it? (note that the 2009 strike lasted for three months, this is already more than 3 months and we've had far longer strikes so it couldnt have been pressure, besides it wasnt election time).Pls find agreement attached. I'll respond to the others in a bit. |
Demdem:By fools I presume you mean folks like yourself, and I'd say Yes! |
1wolex85: My brother, we are saying the same thing. Our country is in the midst of a financial crises and our president has not thought it wise to reduce the presidential fleet, they can still build 1st lady's mission house, they have not cut down on foreign trips, they can still employ abati and okupe to do the same job, they can pay militants to guide the creeks when we have many idle hands in the navy. My point is that, this govt has not shown any sign that we are in a financial crises. According to them our economy is booming, when the opposition says the country is broke, you hear otherwise from noi and co. What do we believe now? This govt is too lavish for me to be on their side in this impasse. I dont need anyone to go with me on this, I'm a very opinionated person. If you want to be on the side of govt and be looking for curiosity even when the govt is not helping itself, fine. Let prosterity judge us all.I totally agree with you sir and only a dishonest person would argue there arent areas serious cost - saving adjustments can be made in the running of the present government, totally granted. However, lets look at the ASUU issue in itself. Govt has ALWAYS been an expensive venture in Nigeria but last year this same government started - for the first time ever a deliberate policy of cutting recurrent expenditure of which cost of governance is chief. On the surface it seems nothing is being done, what with the seeming bloated cabinet and what not but the fact is 'A PROCESS' is on. A reduction in recurrent / govt overhead expenditure was one of NOI's celebrated accomplishments last financial year of which She has consistently vowed to continue on the same path no matter how marginal. There's no doubt that a lot can still be done and the constraint is purely political, no thanks to the system we operate but it's imperative that you understand that the course is set downwards. For the first time in a long while, someone is trying to do something about it, allbeit halfheartedly. Now what is the bone of contention with ASUU? A ludicrous demand for outstanding 4 year accumulated allowances that the union has vowed never to receive in bits but only in lumpsum! Dont be fooled, the whole talk about saving the education sector isa smokscreen as the issue of funding was settled within the first weeks of negotiations (Please refer to interviews granted by Dr Gabriel Suswan who headed the initial negotiations.) ASUU are only holding out to have their allowances which so happens to be in dispute paid in full! Now, the govt is caught between yielding to these demand and in so doing set a dangerous precedence or holding out as long as it can to force ASUU to compromise yet ASUU shockingly, wont budge! Sir, I have read through that agreement and it is terribly skewed in favour of university authorities and desperately needs to be renegotiated (from a students angle at the very least). Now what would you do if you were the govt? Cave in to demands because afterall you spend recklessly at executive level or rather hold out and try to get at least one other sector right? It is Ok to be partisan and great to oppose the govt but the greatest is to be objective in our analysis and criticisms. We are all stakeholders in the education sector as citizens of this country and I totally do not believe this country would be best served if the FG ascedes to ASUU's demands and I say so with total honesty and pureness of heart. Regards. |

1wolex85: My brother, wat is curious about it? Have fg fulfilled their part of the agreement and ASUU still refused to call off? I'll tell you what's curious; the fact dat d fg is trying to backout of an agreement dat took months and a lot of energy to negotiate. If I enter into an angreement with you, and unfortunately I wasn't able to fulfill, you gave me four years, den you come and ask for what is rightfully yours, instead of me to beg I start grandstanding, how wud u feel? How wud u feel if I keep telling you I don't have and u noticed that I just changed my children's school to the most expensive school, I've upgraded my ride and built a new house? Let's stop being sentimental pls. I respect d fact dat you support gej, all well and gud, but speak d truth when you see it.My brother, what isnt curious when ASUU suddenly rises to demand for 2trillion naira in the middle of a country's worse financial crisis since the return to democracy and have refused to resume work till a terribly skewed agreement is implemnted to the letter! State's and parastatals are crying over a shortfall in allocations and ASUU are demanding trillions in the middle of a financial year! Pls be honest, does that make any sense? |

^I'll be the first to admit that this allegation sounds far fetched but at the same time, the circumstances around this strike is very curious. |

As a matter of fact it is ASUU that deserves to be sued. Greedy oaves trying to force total implementation of a one sided agreement. |
