ITbomb: anything with Kobojunkie in it, count me outLMAO. On a serious note, If you can get Kobojunkie to drop even a fraction of her cynicism, I'm sure she would be of great help - Goodluck trying. I totally agree with the OP. NL has become a place to vent and make insane noises without any real action to remedy the situation. Maybe a "NL House of Assembly" with a very select few won't be out of place here. |
Was thinking along that line when I started this thread: www.nairaland.com/1008973/david-mark-myth-telephone-not |
^ That isn't the point. The point is He never said what was attributed to him and something most have come to know him for. I do not seek to portray him as one of our "better" politicians or make him a hero, I'm just trying to burst a myth and highlight how misleading some of our media houses can be sometimes. |
For a long time I was among those that couldn't understand how a minister that had the guts to say "telephone isn't for the poor" could rise to prominence and eventually vie for one of the highest positions in the land. Perhaps it was in line with keeping with our national tradition of rewarding our greatest failures with our highest honours I thought, but a couple of years ago, my ignorance was cleared by an uncle who calmly put me in my place in an argument. lol I've found it quite amusing to read David Mark get whooped left and right over his "Social Media" comment and most (including those I felt should know better) have pointed to his previous comment of "Telephones aren't for the poor" as a pointer to his "anti-social" leaning without realizing this statement is actually a MYTH created by the media - Yes it is! Here's how THISDAY's Simon Kolawole put it some time back: In Nigeria, myths always are garnished and promoted to facts. Up till tomorrow, Nigerians will quote David Mark as saying telephone is not for the poor. But what he said as Minister of Communication was that NITEL would disconnect the lines of its debtors. He said they could not claim that they were too poor to settle their bills. Poor people, he added, didn’t own telephones. The headline the following day was: “Telephone is Not for the Poor – David Mark”.Need I say more? |

I read thru the entire thread like a 4year old testing his reading ability and I have to say I found Odumchi's dialect more comprehensible, why? I'm hoping someone will tell me. I hope this thread is just about demonstrating our various dialects, if its not then I think it wont go very far without translations considering how difficult it is to make sense of some dialects. |
^^ Interesting. |
Another "Police action" in the offing. |
kasiem: abeg, use style comot nah.I just woke my entire household with laughter! Jeez |
BoboYekini: kobojunkie, if you have no particularly meaningful contribution, why not read and watch like me?ROFLMAO! |
Kobojunkie: As I was saying . . .Madam, do you not find it embarrassing that your REPRESENTATIVES are asking why funds have not been released for their respective constituency projects when in the words of the minister, most of the constituency projects do not yet have engineering designs? Why aren't they demanding to see the quality of projects about to be erected in their respective constituencies before fighting over fund release? |
Kobojunkie: Why is it that the question is always about cash disbursements? Ermm madam, those questions were actually directed at LEGISLATORS who normally make up an ARM OF GOVERNMENT not relatively ignorant and information starved madam Kobo in the USA! |
So after all the huffing and puffing from the National Assembly that usually benefits no one other than News editors, came D-day and an opportunity for our "esteemed" legislators to take the Fin minister to the cleaners - ermm well... With a statement from the Chairman Sen Ndoma Egba the hearing took off, trying to appear like a very serious military commander he issued a stern warning; "This isn't going to be a family meeting, its going to be a Market meeting, Nigerian's want their questions answered". You'd think this was going to be a shouting match with figures flying up and down and our legislatos finally getting to earn a fraction of their Sallah Bonus, for where? Na there their shakara end oh, the rest na Madam lecture and the usual 'agama response'! To cap it all off, Madam threw a question to the okpolor eyed legislators; Why is the question always about cash disbursement? Why not focus on the actual projects and their respective status like Mr President is doing? Does disbursement of funds translate to execution? You'd think the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Thursday appeared before the Senate-Executive interaction on issues concerning the 2012 budget. At the session, the minister gave the assurance that the implementation of the N1.3 trillion budget, which had been a sticky issue between the National Assembly and the Executive, was on course. The minister said the implementation of the budget began in April 2012, adding that although the ministry should have released N446bn by now, only N404 billion had been released. Okonjo-Iweala stated that so far, 56 percent of the capital budget had been utilised while 44 per cent was still outstanding. “There is more room for utilisation. Fifty-six per cent of the funds that has been released has been used, meaning 44 per cent is still available for implementation. “The budget must work for Nigerians. They must feel the impact. That is our focus. “We have been working collaboratively with the National Assembly. We have made sure that salaries have been paid and that we are meeting other obligations.” The minister debunked an assertion by the House of Representatives that she lied to Nigerians on the implementation of the budget by claiming that government had achieved 56 per cent implementation of the appropriation Act. The House had called her a liar on Wednesday at a briefing in Abuja after discovering from documents submited to the Senate by the Federal Ministry of Finance that the performance of the budget as at July was a mere 12.6 per cent. Responding to this assertion, she said, “I think that on the issue of budget execution, I have tried to be as clear as I possibly can. “The appropriations bill there is N1.3 trillion. When you add the SURE programme, you get 1.5 trillion. Non-SURE P budget is N1.3 trillion. “If you prorate the amount of budget, you will get a figure of about N113 billion per month. “If you measure what’s been implemented over the entire budget, you get 13.7 per cent. But because we’re talking about four months, the implementation is 41 per cent.” Okonjo-Iweala also pleaded that the execution of the budget should be kept within January- December, adding that the current practice of extending it to March of the following year should be discontinued. She also said the ministry had been providing funds to Ministries, Departments and Agencies “in bulk,” noting that there had been no selection of projects. “We release resources to MDAs in bulk. There is no discrimination. We don’t have a selective approach. “Some of the constituency projects in the 2012 Budget are new and have not undergone the Proper Procurement Process, which takes time,” she noted. She also said President Goodluck Jonathan had been leading the drive for higher budget performance. ^No, you regale us with proof of their endless failures before inundating us with incurable pessimism. |
You mean they only 'raised doubts'? Lol. I thought Vulcan was some phoney company hiding under Paul Allen and your investigative prowess was supposed to bring that all out to the fore? So now we have Rewane expressing doubts over inadequate info and you feel vindicated? Surely when success eludes the lame even a dirge would sound like a victory song! I believe the problem here is a lack of basic understanding of what this project entails. To help you out, just find out what a 'modular refinery' actually means before you come running your mouths and shouting eureka over your obvious foolishness. |
Seems the latest fad is to announce you're being 'stalked',i learnt it immediately confers on you celebrity status when you announce you're being 'stalked'. Even cockroach dey claim being 'stalked' by humans. Wetin we no go hear? E remain sheet to claim being 'stalked' by flies! Lmao |
teskyg: Moderator,Please move this post to the front page.I was iritated by comments from posters yesterday on this topic from misleading Report from Sahara Reporters. What do you want the Mods to move to the frontpage? You practically said nothing even though I believe you without proof! |
SAGirl: I fully agree... last year's season was the worst yet! And this year Biggie really outdid himself with good quality housemates...Do I smell "sour grapes"? Perhaps if Karen had lost out to an ultra dull housemate like Luclay did I also would have said last years edition was "the worse ever"! |
^Do the Ibrus own the Ocean? To thinks that's why you reposted the entire story! My thots on this supposed final report? Not impressed, it leaves too many questions than answers. |
^You're free to call it whatever you like Sir. We know what "our" laws define as corruption and "Political patronage" isn't one. In any case, I wasonly looking at the bigger picture. |
Oloshi? Is that your Surname? As in the above post was signed by Mr M. Oloshi? Uhm well, quite befitting I'd say! |
mutiply: wesley80Olodo, when you are ready for what? Could you at least try to be coherent? |
Eziachi: Ethnic politics apart, you are in all honesty comparing all African games that was watched by billions of television audience worldwide to a Jamboree of wives of African dictators?Sir, the kind of biz Mr Maduka is involved in doesn't require popularity or global approval to be profitable - He isn't selling CocaCola but "exotic cars" that concerns only a very minute number of people and in this line of biz, political patronage could be everything! |
Eziachi: .1a) Coscharis is just one of possibly numerous sponsors. b) They get right standing with a govt that's obligated to purchase clean and sometimes exotic cars annually. Complete this statement; One good turn deserves . . . .. 2) Here's a quote from the statement issued by Abati As part of its own contributions to the successful hosting of the summit by the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, Coscharis Motors Ltd. offered to provide some cars for the event at no cost to the organizers or the Federal Government of Nigeria. Under an agreement signed by the committee and Coscharis Motors, all the cars will be returned to the company after the summit.Hope that's cleared? 3) Maybe this explanation by Okija Juju wld help out here. Coscharis has always sponsored events in Nigeria.. Example are the CHOGM and COJA events.. They lease these cars out, return them to their show room and wave off 10% from the cost..
Hope we r making progress?5) If Coscharis could allow 200 of their prized cars out of their sight even though they intend to sell them at a profit, I don't think paying for 200 more trusted drivers would be too much. What do u think? 6) Security is the contribution of the Nigerian govt to a successful summit - is that too much?. |
mutiply: @ifihear amMy friend keep quiet abeg. Cyber Tiger, if there wasn't a source why didn't you ask for one? why did u rather choose to insinuate he's a paid agent?. |
jmaine: You simply said nothing . . . . .A simple rebuttal was placed before you and all you could do is type the tripe above . .Lol, Bros I tire o! |
Its only fair that this thread makes the homepage as well. |
mutiply: @wesleyGive me an example of some of the lies I've told or your curse will revert on you ten fold. |
doctokwus: Bullshit! When did Coscharis turn to a charity company dat gives out cars for hire for free, assuming its evn for hire as we are made 2bliv.Where were d funds for d summit raised frm,if not frm d FG whc in nigeria has turned to a bazaar willing to dole out money blonging to d commonwealth wt nobody feeling nor wanting to b accountable to d taxpayer?Bullshit X2Stop yapping like a popular slowpoke I know on this forum over something you obviously don't know jack about. If you've got evidence that the govt purchased or hired those vehicles, present it or simply STFU. The freedom of Information Bill was passed so daft critics like you and your ilk can get yourselves informed yet you all still prefer to wallow in perpetual ignorance while denying others ample space for reasonable discussions and sensible debates. ^ Shut your putrid mouth my friend. Aren't you ashamed that you and your likes have been running your mouths and throwing insults left right and centre over a totally contrived and mischievous report? Does your shame and those of your fellow kindergarten hopeless bandwagonists have no limit? Instead of expressing some remorse for your unbelievable foolishness you're trying to pass it all off as some sick joke. What on earth is wrong with you people ? |
