Update...
Ater 3 weeks of lockdown in Vietnam, from tomorrow, we freeeeee.
As at today,, 22nd of April 2020, Vietnam has recorded 258 Cases 0 Death 223 Recovered
So there's only 35 active cases. Good job they doing here I must say!
Immigration work is back up but they dealing with those needing extension for now.
There's also speculations that schools will resume next week. It'll probably be 1st week of May but whichever the case, it's a total relief believe you me.
It saddens my heart to hear the situation of things in Nigeria and my heart bleeds. I guess when you're in the country and see the posts on social media, you laugh about it, we laugh about it, cos that's one of our coping mechanisms. But once you leave, it dawns on you that it really is no laughing matter and it breaks your heart.
Stay safe out there people, better days ahead |

southniyikaye: you see, a fool is a fool even if u tell him, he will still argue. Was opportuned to travel to Vietnam, free ticket, accommodation, processing, ready job cos I was good at teaching English but I hate teaching. And I heard Vietnam was a war thorn country and coincidentally, I bought a Vietnam War backpack at yaba with almost 30 secret pockets, it even has this secret raincoat tucked codedly in the bag. But you see, I was so engrossed with Canada and I later got scammed up to 2m now I am an online begger on nairaland. This your expose made me called the person that gave me that offer and he said the offer is no longer on the table. SO I AM THE FOOL I MENTIONED ON THE FIRST PARAGRAPH. This is sad |

Sss2: Thanks Whyna for keeping this thread alive
I like to ask something from you.
I heard from one Vietnamese that they don't issue more than 1month visa for Nigerians.
How true is that? But this thread clearly shows it's not true |

Ebubeagu1: Miss WhyNa please update this thread for us o tankio. Sorry. I know it's been a while but nothing much is happening right now. Hanoi went into a 15 day lockdown and we're in day 9. The government does a good job at curtailing, tracking and giving info here. Every morning, we receive either text message or update on Zalo on measures and all There's also an app where you can see the new numbers of infected and cured people and areas at risk and declare your health status If a person tests positive, in less than 24 hours, the government releases a statement of all the places the person has been in the last 2 weeks and where possible, specific times. if you were in those areas, you'll be asked to self quarantine first and give update if anything changes. If they were on a flight, flight number and seat number is given sef Disinfection and lockdown of those areas is also prompt. One good thing about the lockdown is the markets are still very open and prices are normal. Pharmacies, banks, fuel stations, supermarkets, factories, etc are open but with certain rules. You can still take a walk to stretch you legs and all Job-wise, we teaching online for those who have online students. Some landlords have been kind enough to either reduce rent or ask you to pay a certain amount and balance up after the virus. Mine reduced my electricity and light bill for the month of March. Now is the best time to learn or do something you've been wanting to do eg learn a new language, learn to cook a new dish, etc Light and internet is constant. Internet is free so you can watch loads of movies and play games and have access to loads of information. We just praying everything gets back to normal soonest |

Whiziddo: O.P I am really motivated by your post and persistence. Please I want to know how old you are. Don't be angry. Atleast it will help me.. Help me to be calculative Abit. Am just 21 yrs old. Done with University currently serving but seeking to work overseas.
Thank you Trust me, age doesn't matter. But if at 21, you're taking this step you're doing great. If at 21, I had seen this option and pursued it instead of the scholarship route, by now, I prolly will be paying for my tuition instead of waiting for scholarship so go for it |

Ebubeagu1: God bless you for this wonderful information. Please can you drop a rough estimate of traveling to viet from visa, flight, living expenses for like 3months etc. Is it up to 2mil please i need to know dont want next year to pass me by thanks. Amen. Let's see.... how do I do this.... Ok. With 2M, you can start the process, get to Vietnam, and still be good for the next 1-2 months. By process, I mean both getting the right documents, authentication, one year visa, work permit, flight, accommodation, feeding, etc. This however depends on some things. 1. The agent 2. Your prudence in spending 3. Your taste. 4. Location Other than that, 2M would get you the best option. |

This is the only food I didn't like.
First, I'm not a pork person. If you aren't too, you should always ask about the ingredients or type of meat before eating.
Those black stuff were made from pig's blood and some other stuff. No I didn't eat it
The fish sauce was kinda ok but the shrimp sauce was a no no too

It's been a while I updated.
Honestly, it was partly due to some things I read here. Y'all have to understand that I'm not being paid for this and I take my time to write and snap pictures when I go out just so I can share with people back home or around. I have never lied about anything here. Instead I give information exactly as experienced.
To the lady who said my statement sounds fishy, I hope you are able to come back here after you go to the Embassy and you're sent away because you don't have a visa approval letter from Vietnam. I repeat again, Visas come from Vietnam. Please when you read, try not to skip any page because I gave step by step explanation of the process I took with explanation and reasons.
To the guy who said I need a large dose of humility, I'm sorry if I offended you but am I wrong for speaking the truth? For saying I don't know it all and people should do some research cos I may have missed some things during my own research?
Anyways, back to my update....
Schools are still closed as you must have seen in the news. I must really commend the Vietnamese government, those guys are doing a great job I swear. People have resorted to teaching online or one on one including me
Asides my bike lessons, I'm also picking up and learning some basic words in Vietnamese and making new friends and trying out new foods.
About the food, so far, out of about 10 or so different dishes I've tried, it's only one I didn't like. Enjoy...... |

Tyteeso: Well..like I do tell pple..The read and know abt vietnam well, but what pple want to hear is if they can reach there and get money sharply..now lemme start by breaking things down.. Firstly, to enter Vietnam, u must av a sponsor..The sponsor is the school or organization that is bringing u in...and the visa code comes from Vietnam. And when ur visa expires with the sponsor..u are on ur own ooo, and in Vietnam overstaying is allowed buh u won't want to try it..cos as at 2013 for each day of overstaying u pay a fine of 100$ so calculate 10days that's 1k$..but I believe it's beta now Secondly, on Study matters, most schools u can study with are affiliated school..Iike UK, Australian schools in the country cos of language.. Thirdly, working whc is the most crucial aspect everyone wanna hear...i will start from years back with my own experience. Wayback 2012 wen we are there, work is not that easy to get cos the govt policy didn't really favour us as Nigerians due to the bad things blacks/nigerians are doing those tym..drugs and others..even with that Vietnamese pple are friendly, they wanna learn English, some of them as friends opened english learning centers and pple teach and earn.. That time I told myself if they put 1500$ per month in Vietnam and Yankee 2k$ monthly I will choose vietnam..why because of the standard of living, now bringing us to the very moment in Vietnam, I know Vietnamese govt bring different kind of policies but I know the place is better now in terms of Nigerians doing well over there..am an agent of the same school I finished with, who from 2013 till 2018 av recruited like 8 students to the school..I know you pple will want to know abt it but I didn't mention abt it cos av not renew my contract with the school for the year 2020..been kind of busy..but when that is done I will av beta information for anyone that want. Boss just to correct this, your visa can actually be renewed via the same agent, a new agent or your current sponsor (employee). You're right about the overstaying fine |

Mizwisdom: Before you started the thread you should have known that people will want to follow in your footsteps, you can't leave them hanging now by directing them to Google. Just tell them the category of visa your agent helped you apply for and if you didn't do the TEFL also tell them. These pix are nice If you read through the thread, you would have actually seen that I mentioned these things and no, everyone doesn't need to do the exact same thing I did. Gosh! What works for A in January might not work for B in February!// See I don't know it all. Nothing is permanent and if there's one thing about Vietnam, they pass laws on a steady. People should do some research on their own too and I bet you, they'll find things even I didn't find. If I had waited for the guy who talked about Vietnam and refused to help me, I would still be in Nigeria today eating into my savings and reading travel threads hoping for someone to spoon feed me. |

slimanyd: You people should not bug her cos she wont give u any response, she already made it clear in her words that an agent did every every for her. She was lucky to have fallen into the right agent though. If you all critically observed her words from page 1. Her intentions was to go the Way of english teaching but she met one agent who changed the whole narative for her. Subsequently, she now talked about different categories of visa that are available from 6 months to working visas and the likes. Most of readers dont always read inbetween the lines. I understand her very well. She never wanted to lay emphasies on the agent aspect so the mods wont think she is stylishly advertising . So, make una jara yin o. Enough of English language or tefl Questions biko. Well said |

Gernny: Whyna you are not really giving us detailed information as where the TEFL certificate course is written, even the Celta school I think you should give us the official websites l,because there are so many sites popping up. You realise that there are actually some things google can help you do right? I mentioned it earlier in this thread that I was adviced against doing the CELTA in Nigeria/ Doesn't that mean I didn't go ahead with that plan? I also mentioned that I did some research and found official centers that conduct these tests. Common bro, do some digging. It's not a must you use the same center or website I used. If the one in Nigeria is okay by you, please go ahead and use them. The person who adviced me may be wrong and I'm not about to tell you not to use them too cos I never tried them and can't say anything about them. It would be wrong to do so |
