The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has alleged attempts by the All Progressives Congress, APC, to disenfranchise voters in the ongoing Osun state election. The party also claimed that the ruling party was already sharing money to voters at ward 8, unit 3 Ota Efun in Olorunda local government. The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, made the claims in a series of tweets on Saturday. “My attention has also been drawn to attempts to disenfranchise voters in @OfficialPDPNig strongholds by distributing malfunctioning card readers between 8am-12pm.They also seek to deploy intimidation tactics to scare voters, hijack boxes and indulge in massive vote buying between 12-4pm.,” he tweeted. “We are totally at a loss as to why @OfficialAPCNg Governors will leave their respective states to invade Osun state on the eve of Election Day. “The plot is to rig the elections in favour of the APC candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, who is apparently very unpopular in the state. “Breaking!@OfficialAPCNg agents are currently sharing money at ward 8, unit 3 Ota Efun in Olorunda local government. “They are sharing N20,000 each to voters. #OsunDecides2018 #OsunDecides @PoliceNG take note urgently @inecnigeria. “At Unit 3 and 6, the strongholds of PDP in Ward 5, Ifelodun LG, the card readers have not been able to clear a single voter till this hour 10:03am.” https://wiki9ja.com.ng/gists/osun-election-pdp-outlines-ways-apc-is-rigging-election-saying-ruling-party-sharing-n20000-to-voters

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja 11, has denied endorsing a candidate for the ongoing Osun election. The Ooni has also urged the European Union Election observers that came to observe the Osun Governorship election not to be biased in their reports as Election Observers. Ogunwusi gave the charge during the visit of European Union Election Observers led by European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Katil Karlsen, on Thursday, in Ile-Ife,. He also dismissed claims of endorsing a particular candidate. “I am a father to everybody. I have prayed for all the candidates and we are hoping that whoever emerges would not betray the confidence reposed in him. ” I want to specifically thank the European Union Team for deeming it fit to come to Osun State to observe the Governorship election. “Your input, support, time to deepen our democracy is highly appreciated because you are committed to good governance which is the essence of a sane society. “If you can reminiscence, you will know that the democracy you are enjoying in your different countries today was not smooth when it started, because you also had challenges but today, you’ve overcome. Therefore, whatever lapses found inherent in our nascent democracy will soon be a thing of the past. “Nigeria must get it right because we are the centrepiece of Africa and once we get it right; surely, the entire Africa countries will get it right as well. “One of every four black men you see is a Nigerian. God wonderfully blessed us because we are the most populous black nation on planet earth. “As European Union Observers, please write what you see, don’t favour any candidate, surely, a winner must emerge and there must be a loser. I urge the candidates to be magnanimous in victory and be a gallant loser.” https://wiki9ja.com.ng/gists/osun-election-ooni-speaks-on-endorsing-candidate

The standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party in the ongoing Osun election, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has boasted that he would win the contest in landslide if the process is free and fair. Adeleke who voted at exactly 8:05am at Sagba Abogunde, ward 2, unit 9, in Ede North Local Government said the process has been orderly without hitches. Speaking with newsmen after exercising his civic responsibility, he stressed that election in Osun should not have gone otherwise because of the deep interest of international community in the process. “This election must remain a reference point for any election in Nigeria, the position of international community is that the process must be free, fair and credible. “Although there are pockets of skirmish before today, we are resolute in our mission to rescue the state from looters; we can not be intimidated in any way,” he said. Adeleke, however, accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of trying to manipulate the process electronically though compromised devices. Speaking on the impact of his family pedigree as leverage in the contest, Adeleke said his family history of integrity and humanitarian service would work for him. He described his late brother, Isiaka as a master in the game of politics, whom he claimed he learnt a lot from in terms of governance and leadership. https://wiki9ja.com.ng/gists/osun-decides-why-i-will-win-in-landslide-ademola-adeleke

WASHINGTON – A prestigious scientific panel is recommending that states significantly lower their drunken driving thresholds as part of a blueprint to eliminate the “entirely preventable” 10,000 alcohol-impaired driving deaths in the United States each year. The U.S. government-commissioned, 489-page report by a panel of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine released Wednesday throws the weight of the scientific body behind lowering the blood-alcohol concentration threshold from 0.08 to 0.05. All states have 0.08 thresholds. A Utah law passed last year that lowers the state’s threshold to 0.05 doesn’t go into effect until Dec. 30. The amount of alcohol required to reach 0.05 would depend on several factors, including the person’s size and whether the person has recently eaten. A 150-pound man might be over the 0.05 limit after two beers, while a 120-pound woman could exceed it after a single drink, according to the American Beverage Institute, a national restaurant group. The panel also recommended that states significantly increase alcohol taxes and make alcohol less conveniently available, including reducing the hours and days alcohol is sold in stores, bars and restaurants. Research suggests a doubling of alcohol taxes could lead to an 11 percent reduction in traffic crash deaths, the report said. It also calls for cracking down on sales to people under 21 or who are already intoxicated to discourage binge drinking, and putting limits on alcohol marketing while funding anti-alcohol campaigns similar to those against smoking. All the proposals are likely to draw fierce opposition from the alcohol and restaurant industries. The beverage institute took out full-page newspaper ads opposing Utah’s new law that featured a fake mugshot under a large headline reading, “Utah: Come for vacation, leave on probation.” But the academies’ report points out that “alcohol-impaired driving remains the deadliest and costliest danger on U.S. roads,” accounting for 28 percent of traffic deaths. Each day, 29 people in the U.S. die in alcohol-related crashes and many more are injured. Forty percent of those killed are people other than the drunken driver. Rural areas are disproportionately affected. In 2015, 48 percent of drunken driving fatalities occurred in rural areas. The report says many strategies have been effective to prevent drunken driving, but “a coordinated multilevel approach across multiple sectors will be required to accelerate change.” “The problem isn’t intractable,” the report said. From the early 1980s to the early 2000s, there was significant progress as the result of an increase in the drinking age to 21, decreases in the blood-alcohol threshold, and other measures, the report said. But since then, progress has stagnated and recently has begun to reverse. Action to address drunken driving can’t wait for the advent of self-driving cars immune to the lures of a cold beer or a fine wine — it will take too long for autonomous vehicles to replace all the human-driven machines on the road, said the panel’s chairman, Steven Teutsch, a senior fellow for health policy and economics at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. “In the meantime, we have 10,000 people a year dying and we ought to do something about it,” he said. The report cites studies that show the United States lags behind other high-income countries in preventing drunken driving fatalities. More than 100 countries have adopted the 0.05 threshold lower. In Europe, the share of traffic deaths attributable to drunken driving was reduced by more than half within 10 years after the standard was dropped, the National Transportation Safety Board said in 2013. The safety board has also recommended the 0.05 threshold. Alcoholic beverages have changed significantly over the past 25 years. “They are more affordable, of far greater variety, and more widely advertised and promoted than in earlier periods,” the report said. The lack of consistency in serving sizes and the combination of alcohol with caffeine and energy drinks make it harder for drinkers to estimate their level of impairment. The report was commissioned by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which asked the academies to determine which strategies for reducing drunken driving have been proven effective. http://wepublicisenaija.com/5089/drunken-driving-blood-alcohol-threshold-should-be-lowered-scientific-panel-says/ |

As our social lives move onto the Internet, so do certain aspects of it. One of the major players in the online world is dating. No longer do people have to show up to meetups in order to find potential partners. Now they have an entire directory online of beautiful people to browse at their leisure. But are potential partners actually as good-looking as they appear to be? The relatively new fad of “catfishing” is where the online crush you have your heart set on may not be telling the whole truth. Due to how easy it is to fetch an image of an attractive person off the Internet, people can use it as a profile picture to appear more desirable online. They then approach people of interest and try to establish a romantic relationship using their fake persona. Why Do People Catfish? The more obvious reason why someone would adopt a fake persona is to initiate an online relationship. Of course, if the catfisher ever meets up with their partner in real life, the illusion will be lost the moment they see one another. As such, a catfisher will push for a long-distance relationship and will deny any video chats or invitations to meet up While this is the more obvious reason why someone would create a fake persona, catfishing has a darker side to it. When the victim asks if they can meet in real life, the catfisher will agree that it would be a great idea but then claims there’s a problem; they supposedly live across the country and have no means of travel or money to do so. If the victim would donate some money, however, they could meet in real life and make their relationship more real. If the partner is head-over-heels in love, they may decide to pay up in order to see the love of their life. Once the money has changed hands, the catfisher deletes all their details and leaves the victim in the dark and without their money. How to Avoid Catfishing The main way to avoid catfishing is to apply the one thing that works for the majority of Internet scams – common sense! If you’re dating an online partner who doesn’t want to use a webcam, but does want you to spend a lot of money on them, red flags should be going up. Never give anything to anyone unless you know for sure they are who you think they are. A common trait for catfishers is that they act quite quickly and irrationally in order to set up the relationship. If someone completely and totally falls for you within days of saying “hello” for the first time, be extra careful. Likewise, if they seem very clingy and shame you into doing things for them, they might be a catfisher. If the dating profile seems too good to be true, it probably is! One way to check if the profile picture was downloaded from Google is to save it to your computer somehow, then go to Google Images reverse image search and upload it there. catfishing-search catfishing-upload Chrome users can do this faster by right-clicking the image and selecting “Search Google for image.” catfishing-chrome-option Google will let you know if the picture is found elsewhere. If it appears on a site not affiliated with your potential date, you’re probably dealing with a catfisher! catfishing-results Fishing Without Bait Catfishing is a relatively new phenomenon on the Internet. Its motives range from an insecure person trying to find love all the way to a scammer trying to steal money from lonely hearts. Now you know what catfishing it, its darker side, and how to avoid it. Has someone ever tried to trick you with an online persona before? Tell us your stories below! http://wepublicisenaija.com/4136/catfishing-scams-target-lonely-hearts-learn-how-to-protect-yourself-from-it/

ROCKWOOD, Mich. – A man has been arrested after his girlfriend’s body was found wrapped in a sheet and plastic in a home southwest of Detroit. Prosecutors say 50-year-old Jeffrey Thomas was charged Tuesday with concealing the death of an individual. They identified the victim as 32-year-old Jennifer Butkowski. Rockwood Police Chief Randy Krause says an autopsy will determine the cause of death. The case is being treated as a homicide. Police say a man jumped from an upper-floor window at the Rockwood home shortly after midnight Sunday and told officers a gunman was inside, holding children as hostages. No gunman or children were found inside. Krause told The Detroit News the suspect had “blood on his hands, arms and legs.” Police told the Monroe News that the woman had been dead for about two weeks. http://wepublicisenaija.com/man-arrested-over-girlfriends-body-found-wrapped-in-plastic |
