No one gave the Americans their independence. Not even the British. The Americans fought a war for it and defeated the British. The British Americans having got fed up with the antics of their British brothers from the UK, and the constant subjugation from the crown, they decided to totally separate from them. It was more of a revolutionary war or quite like a civil war between the same people.

That’s why the US is also not a part of the Commonwealth of Nations because they were never colonized by Britain but were more of a branch of Britain
