However, instead of returning to their previous posts in the Presidential Villa, our correspondent gathered that they have been redeployed to various ministries where they were assigned new roles by the supervising ministers.

Speaking with our correspondent on Tuesday evening, one of the affected aides said some of them were recalled in December 2019 while some also got redeployed in January 2020.

Reading a communiqué after a meeting well attended by members from 20 states, the National President of INC, Chilos Godsent said that the group also condemned what it described as the “naked cowardice exhibited by the governors of the South-East geopolitical zone on the failures to establish and officially inaugurate the highly-demanded South-East regional security outfit like their contemporaries in the North-West and South-West geopolitical zones.

“It undermines our humanity as a country, disrespects us as Nigerians and makes the tail want to wag the dog. It is unacceptable, insulting, narcissistic, egregious, insidious and invidious.”

“The bill will soon be defeated on the floor of the House because it is illegal and unconstitutional.

“Apart from the President, Vice President, Governors and Deputy Governors who are entitled to immunity under Section 308 of the Constitution, no other public official or citizen is entitled to be excluded from prosecution for corruption or other criminal offences.

Despite efforts by persons in government to deny the employment of President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter, Hadiza, into Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, fresh facts have emerged on how the secret recruitment took place.

Earlier in February, some contract staff of the PPPRA raised the alarm that Hadiza had been employed into the agency as deputy manager along with children of other top and highly influential persons in the country
After the news hit the airwaves, the Presidency swung into action, denying that the claim was “untrue, malicious, and meant to cast aspersions on the first family”.

Chief Ebenezer Babatope, a former Minister of Transport and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in this interview, speaks on the state of insecurity in the country, developments in his party and other issues. TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI brings the excerpts:

Why did you ask him not to handover then?

I did so because it was apparent and clear that the APC wanted power at all costs and having known Buhari very well when he came into power as a military head of state, his regime killed so many of my colleagues who went to prison and never returned. Even those who managed to return eventually died.

That was why I advised Jonathan to hold onto power but he said his ambition doesn’t warrant innocent Nigerians losing their lives. But despite handing over peacefully to them, look at what they are doing to him. It is sad.

News broke on Friday that the US government has opposed a move by Nigeria to hand over $110 million to Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, the Kebbi state governor.

Bagudu’s assets were seized along with Abacha’s because they were considered to be his reward for the “services” he rendered to the military head of state. Court documents seen by TheCable show that the planned payment is a product of a 2018 agreement between Bagudu and the federal government.

TheCable highlights what the $110 million (equivalent to N33.7 billion at the $1/N306 CBN exchange rate) could otherwise have been spent on in the quest to develop Nigeria.

dre111:
Industry observers have excoriated NAMA for removing the Category 2 ILS when it was not ready with Cat 3 and described such action as lackadaisical and inefficient.

It has been estimated that airlines lost about N5 billion to the bad weather that lasted for about six days. The aviation agencies like the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), which charges about $50 per passenger on international flight and also charges for landing and parking lost huge revenue. NAMA lost en-route charges paid by both local and international carriers.

Domestic airlines were not spared of the losses. THISDAY learnt that domestic airlines cancelled many flights. Dana Air, Arik Air, Azman Air and others issued statements, urging their passengers to understand that they could not be airlifted or the flights were to be delayed due to disruptions occasioned by the weather.

The Senate has clarified that Senator Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo remains a member of the upper chamber for now despite the certificate forgery which denied him a chance to become Bayelsa State deputy governor.

The Supreme Court stopped David Lyon of the All Progressives Congress from being inaugurated as Bayelsa State governor, along with Degi-Eremienyo, on the eve of his inauguration after the latter submitted forged certificates to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Akwashiki told one of our correspondents that the Supreme Court did not address the issue of his senatorial status while delivering judgment on the Bayelsa governorship election.

He said the process to recall a senator could only start if they were dead, had a recall demand from his constituency or through a court pronouncement directing INEC to withdraw their certificate of return.

Children and adults in Baba Pupa village, a community in Ogun state, are frequently seen rushing to a dirty pond to fetch and hustle to drink the dirty water it produces.

They also have a public healthcare center which has been abandoned for over 20 years, while electric poles which had been erected for over 15 years have never brought power to the sleepy community.

The attack came following the public hearing on a motion titled: “Increasing rate of drop calls and other unwholesome practices by telecom network operators in Nigeria that had robbed Nigerians of their hard earned billions of Naira.”

The public hearing was organised by the Senate Committee on Communications in Abuja on Wednesday. The NCC had accused the Federal Ministry of Works of contracting construction of projects to contractors who cut cables of telecom companies, resulting into the drop calls.

The NCC Director of Technical Standards and Network Integrity, Mr Bako Wakil, said telecoms service providers had become victims of multiple taxation by states and Federal Government.

An Italian judge has ordered a Nigerian businessman, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar to stand trial for alleged international corruption relating to a Nigeria oil graft case involving Eni and Shell, a judicial source and his lawyer said on Wednesday.

Milan prosecutors allege that Abubakar, a reclusive billionaire and chairman of AA Oil, played a central role in one of the oil industry’s biggest scandals in years, handing out more than $500 million in cash to powerful Nigerian government officials.

The money is alleged to come out of the $1.3 billion licence fee paid by Eni and Shell for access to the OPL-245 offshore oilfield located in the southern Niger Delta.
Abubakar’s Italian lawyer, Davide Pozzi, said his client, who lives in Nigeria, denies any wrongdoing in the case.

Blue3k3:

Despite owing retired civil servants pensions and gratuities for several years, the Osun State Government has bought new Toyota Camry XLE 2019 cars for the 26 members of the state House of Assembly.

The expenditure is at least N266 million, going by the unit price of $29,175 for each in the U.S.

Considering the cost of importation, the expected profit by the supplier, and inflated prices associated with government expenditure in Nigeria, the state government is expected to have paid much more for the cars.

A spokesperson to the Osun State governor refused to disclose the exact amount paid for the vehicles and the company that supplied them.

Critics described the government's action as a "misplacement of priority" for a state said to be cash strapped, but Governor Gboyega Oyetola has justified the expenditure.
