President Tinubu, His 774 Wildcards, And The Coming Election. Upon assuming office, President Tinubu was among the most unpopular elected leaders in the nation’s history. However, his bold reforms gradually earned him the admiration of many, a shift that I believe helped lift his approval ratings from a low of 16–24% in 2023 to as high as 51% in January 2026, according to NOIPolls-a provider of country-specific polling services in West Africa. Data obtained from the same website recently shows that President Bola Tinubu’s approval ratings slipped by four points in March 2026, from 53% to 49%. By all indications, the figure may drop further once April and May’s data becomes available. This downward trend could continue even more steeply as the election cycle draws nearer with a struggling economy and overwhelming insecurity. The reasons for citizens’ growing discontent are not far-fetched. Deteriorating security situation, poverty, a high cost of living, steeper food and energy prices continues to stoke citizens anger towards his administration. To his defense, some of the factors fueling this disapproval are exogenous. The US-Iran war, for instance, has driven up gas prices globally. Others, however, are acts of unwitting self-harm. It is the later that prompted this piece—a promise of renewed hope, now hanging in an air of uncertainty. The Promise On 6th March 2025, the President announced the hiring of 774 young Nigerian graduates into the federal civil service. This took place during the launch of the first Cohort of the National Health Fellows Program under the Federal Ministry of Health. Each of these young Nigerians was selected from the 774 local government areas across the country, through a rigorous selection process. According to the Coordinating Minister of Health, Professor Ali Pate, 364,000 people applied for the opportunity. “Mr. President,” he said, “these 774 are the best of the crop.” And he was right. The program’s selection process is widely regarded as one of the most transparent and credible government recruitment exercises in the country. Yet, one year later, beneficiaries remain jobless and uncertain after completing the one-year fellowship. I will not bore you with emotional details, I intend to keep this piece as brief as possible. 774 Wildcards of President Tinubu From my interactions with some of the beneficiaries, the opportunity arrived as a glimmer of hope in a country where young people have lost trust in the system. Their stories reveal that some had never dreamed of entering the presidential villa. Young people from struggling backgrounds finally given a reason to believe again. That hope reverberated across their families and villages, including families I believe had contributed to the President’s over 70% disapproval rating (*wicked grin*), prompting many to rethink. I will include a clip of the promise so you can grasp the emotions that filled the hall that day. Seven hundred and seventy-four young, energetic men and women, the hope of their families, communities, and even neutrals like myself who are watching closely. That is by no means a small force in political mobilization. Without a doubt, the outcome of these fellows' transition into the civil service among many other unfulfilled promises, could substantially increase or reduce the President's electoral fortunes. The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) wishes to address recent media reports, particularly a publication by Sahara Reporters, alleging that the Federal Government has failed to fulfil its employment commitment to beneficiaries of the 774 National Health Fellows Programme. The Commission considers it necessary to clarify the true position of the ongoing process in order to avoid misinformation, unnecessary public anxiety, and misrepresentation of facts. The Commission confirms that communication relating to the recruitment process of the National Health Fellows is ongoing between the relevant stakeholders, including the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Federal Civil Service Commission. As at 29th April, 2026, the Human Resource Department of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare was still awaiting official correspondence and procedural conclusion relating to aspects of the recruitment process. This position was also confirmed during a visit by delegates associated with the Fellows to the Commission on Tuesday, 5th May, 2026. Consequently, it is inaccurate to suggest that the process has been abandoned or that the Federal Government has failed to honour its commitment. The necessary administrative procedures and institutional engagements are still in progress in line with established Public Service regulations and due process requirements. The Commission also notes with concern statements credited to purported “leaders” of the National Health Fellows. Available information indicates that there is presently no formally constituted or officially recognized leadership structure representing the Fellows collectively. Members of the public are therefore advised to disregard unauthorized statements capable of causing confusion or misinforming beneficiaries and stakeholders. The Federal Civil Service Commission reiterates its commitment to transparency, merit, and due process in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities. The Commission remains actively engaged with relevant authorities to ensure that all necessary procedures are appropriately concluded. The Commission further acknowledges the commitment, patriotism, and service rendered by the National Health Fellows during the programme and assures all concerned parties that the Federal Government remains committed to strengthening the nation’s healthcare workforce through lawful and coordinated institutional processes. Accordingly, beneficiaries and members of the public are urged to remain calm, patient, and guided by verified official information, while refraining from the spread of speculative or misleading narratives capable of undermining public confidence in ongoing processes. The Federal Civil Service Commission remains committed to accountability, professionalism, and service to the nation. Ibraheem Zakariyya Head, Press & Public Relations 9th May, 2026

Softboy001:It happens to everyman from time to time. You'll loss interest in your woman especially if she's living with you and you see her everyday. Don't get yourself too worked up less the recovery time will keep getting longer. Take it easy on you, focus on the beautiful things about her only or the things that first attracted you to her. You'll get to desire her again with time. Also, try the romance in a dark room where you don't get to see her face or any of her flaws. You can even do it with the image of the woman you're currently crushing on. |
