Dear PMB, It is with heavy heart that I write this article, knowing that my concerns might fall on deaf ears. But it has become imperative for me to bare my mind on the disturbing trends of denigration of our national institutions, the two pillars of our democracy- The Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) and our judiciary. Sir, Your Silence is Enabling the disrespect for these institutions and has the propensity to lead to anarchy. The outcome of the 2023 Nigerian presidential elections has caused a dangerous trend of prominent individuals from the camp of one of the four major contestants Mr. Peter Obi, who interestingly came a distant third in the polls. Their candidate had no clear path to victory, their claims of victory is not only surprising but laughable. However, it is time to close their circus, this comic show must not be allowed to continue. These elements out of desperation and lack of sportsmanship continued to make comments that deride the electoral body (INEC). The Labour party vice presidential candidate reportedly threatened the judiciary in an interview on Channels TV, repeatedly demanding the court to rule in favor of his party. While Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie who was vocal about her support for her “kinsman” Mr. Peter Obi has written a letter to the United State Government referring to the just concluded elections as “a mess” and casting aspersions of fraud on the electoral body. Several other prominent persons sympathetic to the opposition, particularly the 3rd force (lived up to it’s tag) known as the “Obidients” have layed unbridled accusations of electoral malpractice on the electoral umpire. Need I mention the many “unstatemanly” comments made by the another sworn “obidient” Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo? Mr President, your silence on these matters is giving the “Obidients” a free hand to masturbate to the thought of anarchy. These actions are not only disrespectful but can have dangerous consequences for the stability of the country. The gullible citizens might be herded into causing a civil unrest. The judiciary and INEC are crucial components of Nigerian democracy, and their independence and integrity must be protected. When prominent individuals make comments that cast doubt on their credibility, it undermines the trust Nigerians have in these institutions and can lead to a breakdown in the rule of law. Sir, it is imperative that you take strong action to condemn these comments and hold those responsible accountable. Failure to do so sends a message that disrespecting government institutions is acceptable, and this can snowball into anarchy. Please use good office to reiterate the importance of these institutions and emphasize the consequences of undermining them. Also, the trending #MrYakubuChallenge is a cause for concern. It is a clear indication that these elements are gaining momentum as there is no strong and emphatic response coming from the president. It is important sir, that you understand the gravity of the situation, and speak up to condemn these actions in the strongest possible terms, assert your power and call for a stop to these actions. It is time to remind the public that these institutions are integral to our democracy, and they must be respected at all times. The lack of action from your office only gives these “Obidients” a free hand to continue their denigration of our institutions, and it emboldens those who are issuing threats. This inaction can have far-reaching consequences, and it is imperative that the President intervenes before it is too late. Failure to act now can have dire consequences for our beloved country, Yours truly, Will Mic, Ordinary citizen of the federal republic of Nigeria.

OBIDIENTS, THE TIME TO START AGAIN IS NOW! And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish. But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved-Matthew 9:17 Before I proceed, congratulations to “Obidients” you had a good run. No matter the outcome of this election, pat yourselves on the back. You have gone just as far as you could, but let it not end here. In sooth, now is the right time to begin! Mathew 9:7 is idiomatic and means to present or offer an existing concept or institution as though it were a new one. This Bible verse is a perfect analogy of the person, Mr. Peter Obi and the ideology behind the “Obidiency movement.” Mr. Peter Obi, after his two terms as governor of Anambra state had no notable achievement except claims of leaving behind N75b in the state coffers for his successor. He dumped The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), a party that gave him the platform to become governor to join the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after a controversial and subpar eight years reign. Mr. Obi will later become the vice presidential candidate of his new party, sharing the presidential ticket in 2019 with Mr. Atiku Abubakar-a name synonymous with corruption in the heart of every Nigerian. In his usual manner of jumping ships in the face of turbulence, he left the PDP in 2022 to join the Labour party in a last minute move to secure a presidential ticket by any means possible. Mr. Obi was given the LP presidential ticket just few days after joining the party. Raising concerns that his emergence was shrouded in corruption, with millions paid as kickbacks to the LP executives. Mr. Obi has so many moral baggage. From choosing to deputize a renowned corruption guru, his divisive nature-an uncanny ability to cause division and use it to his advantage. He represents the old order- an old bottle! Phew! But talk about the ideology, the flames the Obidiency movement has ignited in the hearts of many Nigerians, a new wine that triggered the awakening in political consciousness of hitherto “fencists”- seismic! The eminent defeat of Mr. Obi at the polls will put an end to his political relevance. But the Obidiency ideology must not be allowed to perish with him. In fact, the right time to start is now but in a “fresh new bottle!” Long before now, I have held the believe that the Obidiency movement was not really about Mr. Peter Obi but an eruption of a bottled up anger and disdain most Nigerians had for the state of affairs of the country. Mr. Obi was merely a vessel, a bottle used to make a bold statement. The ideology lacked mass appeal basically due to the medium in which it was presented. The Muslim population felt threatened by Mr. Obi’s divisive track records and ethno-religious themed presidential campaigns. Most Nigerians felt insulted to be presented a mediocre as their Messiah. The “Obidients” must therefore find a new bottle an incorruptible person, a man or woman, with proven track records, who has not been a part of this rot to give credibility to the movement. And of course, a new slogan! If the result is to be achieved in the next 4-8 years, the time to start is now! Will Mic. Writes from Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

It was a black Saturday, March 5th 2021 for family and friends of Mr Mambalo Sule Marvelous, a young graduate of Agricultural Extension and Rural sociology from the University of Calabar who was murdered in Anambra state in what appears to be a hate crime. According to reports, Mambalo was targeted by suspected IPOB gunmen simply because he is a northerner living in the east. The assailants identified and traced him to his workplace where he was shot dead with his skull smashed open. Mr Mambalo, a Christian from Taraba state decided to remain in his host state of Anambra after completion of his National Youth Service Program until his tragic dead. The deceased was my colleague for five years, not once was he involved in a fight. A jolly good fellow who always avoided trouble and was always the first to apologise at every instance. Rest in power. @laslasticlala @Mynd44

Chieftains and delegates of the All Progressives Party (APC) will converge in Uyo on Saturday 4th March 2022 for what is tagged "The South-south declaration." The event which is slated to hold at the Emerald event center, Uyo, is aimed at intensifying the pressure on the Vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to run for office of the country's number one citizen. It will be recalled that a similar event was held in Kano few days ago with a massive turn out. To me, PYO is the most "sellable" of the presidential aspirants so far. I challenge anyone on this forum to prove me wrong! @laslasticlalab @Mynd44 Make we show our VP love abeg ![]()

Some bandits who fled from the ongoing military operation in Zamfara State on several motorcycles were on Friday ambushed and neutralised by men of the Nigerian Armed Forces. The exact number of bandits killed could not be immediately ascertained but a source at Maganda village in Shiroro Local Government Area where the incident happened told THISDAY that they are many. However, it was gathered that one soldier involved in the battle is still missing. Some of the bandits, who escaped with serious bullets wounds, are still being trailed by the soldiers as the entire forest is being combed in search of the escaped ones, while the villagers have been engaged to assist in evacuating the remains of the neutralised bandits. It was gathered that six sub-machine guns and a number of AK 47 riffles and bags of ammunitions were recovered from the bandits. According to a source close to Allawa community, most of the bandits neutralised resembled foreigners, saying: “From the dead bodies that we saw, they are not Nigerians, these are foreigners, all of them are carrying long hair like women.” One of the co-conveners of the Concerned Shiroro Youth, an organisation monitoring the security situation in the local government area, Alhaji Yussuf Kokki, when contacted on phone, confirmed the story saying: “We heard about it but we don’t have the details.” Meanwhile, the District Head of Wawa in Borgu Local Government Area, Dr. Mahmud Aliyu, who was abducted by bandits a week ago has regained his freedom. The District Head was set free by the bandits on Friday evening without payment of any ransom, according to a source close to his palace. The Police Public Relations Officer, Niger State Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the release of the monarch. Source: https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/category/business/ |
