The most expensive Jewelry in the world, is the Hope Diamond. It's valued at $250 million. The most expensive island in the world is Lanai island in Hawaii which is worth $610 million. Larry Ellison purchased 98% of the Island in 2012 for $300 million, and has been developing it since then. 2 Likes |
Politics / Ihedioha: National Press Club Proposes Visa Ban On Supreme Court Justices by WilliamKhan(m): 3:24am On Feb 15, 2020 |
The National Press Club has proposed a list of punitive measures against the justices of the Supreme Court over over its decision on the Imo State governorship appeal that removed Hon. Emeka Ihedioha as governor of the tate. The club, which is the world’s largest professional organisation for journalists, berated the apex court for delivering what they described as a flagrant fraudulent judgment. It warned that the judgment if not reversed could lead to more sanction against the judiciary, which is supposed to be the last hope of Nigerians. Outside the apex court justices, others to be considered for strong punitive measures are the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) whom they believed is behind the action of the apex court justices. The members of the club, who spoke at a recent roundtable, warned that there would be, “repercussions for the justices of Nigeria if the decision of January 14 which is flagrantly fraudulent and issued in bad faith is not reversed”. According to one of the speakers, the United States recently passed a law, which empowers the president at the request of the Secretary of State and various committees’ chairmen in Congress to list persons abroad that would be denied visa, have their assets frozen and be excluded from the commerce of the United States, “if they are complicit in recognised internationally rights violations”. He added that judges are not shielded from the law. Another speaker said, “in my view I think the Supreme Court justices would be at risk if this decision flagrantly tainted is not reversed and it could impact not only the seven Justices who sat in that particular case but the entire bench of the Supreme Court. “The whole institution has shown that it is corrupted and compromised and we encourage others to remind them that others could be impacted if they stood on their earlier fraudulent decision”. Another option the panelists said could be explored is the ordering of an international investigation under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) where the judges could be prosecuted for abuse of fundamental human rights, stating that the justices by the judgment have violated articles 21 and 25 of international convention which guaranteed the right of people to self- determination and self-government. While they noted that they are not threatening the justices of the apex court, they urged the justices to see the move as an encouragement and incentive to correct the wrong by doing the right thing. They also called on the US Congress to as part of its oversight function investigate its military and economic assistance to Nigeria with a view to ensuring that assistance is given out to countries that respect the rights of its own citizens under its own Constitution. They noted that the Imo State issue if not resolved is capable of resulting to a problem that would not only consume Nigeria but the entire West African region. “It is a very critical problem confronting all of Africa. The more that is written about it the more it rises to the surface it is a very critical problem confronting the most populous black country in the whole of Africa whole instability could have rippling effect throughout, not just west Africa”. While pointing accusing fingers at the leadership of the ruling party, the APC, the panelists noted that the Justices could not have done such a thing on their own without being pressurised from outside, stressing that, “no judges would want to expose themselves to such ridicle unless there were some other forces that were compromising their Independence”. They noted that the earlier Visa ban on Nigeria was to stop the migration of people from other countries from migrating to the US through Nigeria. “Nigeria cannot get better unless the Judiciary becomes the bulwark against corruption, injustice, senseless slaughter and regional issues that is pitching the people against themselves”, they said adding that, “ Visa ban is just a start”. https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2020/02/14/ihedioha-national-press-club-proposes-visa-ban-on-supreme-court-justices/

Nairaland has to do a lot better with regards to moderating the quality of news they allow to be brought to the front page. The 2019 Anambra South Senatorial Candidate of the PDP was Chief Chris Ubah, and not Obinna Uzoh. Moreover no credible news outlet has confirmed news about this judgment, as even the person who made this post picked it up from some Kangaroo Blog. 3 Likes |

Politics / BREAKING: Omo-agege Loses At Appeal Court by WilliamKhan(m): 7:00pm On Mar 29, 2019 |
The Court of Appeal sitting in Benin, the Edo State capital, has reaffirmed the nullification of the reelection of Ovie Omo-Agege, the senator representing Delta Central district on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and that of Francis Waive, who was declared winner of the Ughelli North, South and Udu House of Representatives seat on the APC platform. In a judgement delivered by Justice Tosin Adegoke On March 18, the Federal High Court 1 sitting in Asaba, the Delta State capital, had sacked the Great Ogboru/Ovie Omo-Agege factional state executive committee of the APC led by Jones Erue and upheld the O'tega Emerhor faction led by Cyril Ogodo as the authentic state executive committee. The Federal High Court also nullified all actions taken by the sacked Erue-led executive, including ward and local government congresses, party primaries and the list of candidates that emerged from the primaries held by Erue’s faction, declaring it null and void. Following the judgement of the Federal High Court, Omo-Agege and Waive had approached the Court of Appeal sitting in Benin to seek the leave of the court to appeal the judgment nullifying their candidatures and reelection. At the hearing of the case on Friday in Benin, the Court of Appeal dismissed the case filed by Omo-Agege and Francis Waive seeking a leave of court to appeal the Federal High Court judgement which sacked the Jones Erue-led state executive faction of the APC and nullified the list of its candidates. After dismissing both applications for lacking in merit, the Appeal Court awarded a fine of N300,000 each to the two party candidates. The court said the plaintiffs could not claim to be unaware of the case, and as such they could not seek to be joined or challenge the judgement at this moment. http://saharareporters.com/2019/03/29/breaking-omo-agege-loses-appeal-court 2 Likes

Celebrities / Rapper Falz's 'this Is Nigeria' Video Holds Up A Mirror For The Country - CNN by WilliamKhan(m): 7:21pm On May 28, 2018 |
CNN) One of Nigeria's biggest music stars, Falz, released a video this weekend as a cover version of Childish Gambino's viral video, 'This is America.' The new version is titled 'This is Nigeria,' and it has generated a storm online, including a reaction from hip-hop musician and entrepreneur Diddy, who shared it on his Instagram page, propelling the video to worldwide recognition. Falz, (real name Folarin Falana) has gained plaudits for tackling social ills in a country where pop stars rarely get political. Musicians tend to avoid political commentary, partly due to an ingrained fear of persecution from the powerful political class. REVOLUTIONARY SPIRIT Falz's 'This is Nigeria,' embodies the revolutionary and rebel spirit of Fela Anikulapo Kuti before him. Fela Kuti, the pioneer of the Afrobeat genre, was famous for his political activism during the country's era of military dictatorships. From his records 'International Thief Thief' (ITT) to 'Zombie,' Kuti exhibited a bold defiance against the Nigerian government and other corrupt officials of his time. Fela was a raging supporter of human rights, and his records, - often filled with verbal attacks - were against Nigeria's military government in the 70's. It came at a great personal cost to him; he was frequently imprisoned and his mother was thrown off a balcony by an unknown Nigerian soldier during a raid. After the passing of Fela, his sons Femi and Seun Kuti have carried on some of his activism in their individual music careers, but Afrobeat, as a genre of music has largely become niche. Falz is known globally for his comedy-flavored hip hop hits but could he take on the political music mantle and fill the gap left by Fela? The singer has a law degree and is the son of prominent Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana, so this suggestion is not as far-fetched as it sounds. It is also not the first time that the rapper has included social commentary in his music with previous hits 'Confirm' and 'Child of the World,' so it would appear that the apple does not fall far from the tree, as the saying goes. Complacent slumber While the concept for the 'This is Nigeria,' video isn't original, what Falz did was internalize the message, pass it through his own artistic filter and bring it home to Nigeria to highlight the country's numerous social ills. Almost as if to awaken Nigerians from their complacent slumber of acceptance. "The primary motivation was to trigger an awakening among the Nigerian people about the numerous political and social ills that we constantly face as a country. And more importantly to spark a reaction in the positive direction," says Falz via email. With the help of stuntmen and extras, Falz walks us step by step through Nigeria's major problems, central to this is what many perceive to be inefficient leadership by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari. Many believe he has failed to deliver on its promises of improving Nigerian lives and fixing the economy. which slid into a recession two years ago and is slowly starting to emerge out of it. Nigeria is awash with petrodollars but much of this money does not trickle down to the average man and woman on the street. According to the World Poverty Clock, 82 million of the 180 million population (42.4 percent), live in extreme poverty. Other problems include the country's opioid crisis, normalization of insecurity such as frequent Boko Haram bombings and kidnapping of schoolgirls such as the Chibok girls. Added to this incendiary mix is the country's strained ethnic and tribal relations, a lack of dependable power supply, poor infrastructure, a trigger-happy police force, the popularity of advance fee fraud, (locally known as Yahoo boys) and exploitation of the citizenry by some clergymen. A national mirror The first thing you notice when you watch Falz's 'This is Nigeria,' video is the strongest message contained in the video; Nigeria is a lawless country, guided by a constitution that is treated like an honorary document. That's why the first man, dressed in traditional Fulani attire would switch from being a happy musician minding his business, to a murderer in an instant. He abandons his Goje (popularly known as the 'Hausa Guitar) for a machete, and instantly moves towards another helpless citizen who he kills without mercy. It is this type of imagery that makes the video so powerful. This is the first time in the recent history of the local pop scene that an artist with the influence and credibility of Falz has released such material. While many commentators in the local space have been quick to dismiss it on the basis of it being a cover version, it doesn't take away from the core message; Nigeria is a flawed country, with multi-faceted problems. Falz captures this using cinematic techniques and concludes, just like the source material, by failing to proffer a solution. Perhaps that is the point he's trying to make. It is a national mirror, created to make Nigeria stare at itself and its problems, one more time. Falz's 'This is Nigeria' video and its impact has generated conversations around the world, and acts as a reminder of the power behind music, and how it can be used more effectively to inspire change. It shows that contrary to popular opinion among local talents, there is a demand for conscious music. Capturing their pain Many musicians should follow his lead, and create art to reflect the times and the pulse of the people. While there are valid opinions against chasing activism as the sole focus of African music, the ability to balance it out, and create conscious music, while also feeding the people's desire to escape is a crucial skill. Falz's video suggests that, as Nigeria moves forward, its musicians have a huge responsibility on their shoulders to create art that amplifies the state of the nation, and ultimately improves the society that nurtured them. Their music is created for communities that are massively affected by these problems. Ultimately, it shouldn't only provide leisurely relief. It should capture their pain too. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2018/05/28/africa/falz-this-is-nigeria-video-analysis/index.html 3 Likes

Chylo: When someone says Bukola Saraki's father handed over to him as governor, and goes ahead to further claim that Bola Tinibu handed over governorship of Lagos to his wife, it becomes evidently clear how much of Democracy they've actually learned. So no Sir, if learning about democracy would make me make the kind of ignorant assertions that you make, then I'd rather remain democratically naive. And if it will put a smile on your face, Yes the people can vote for who they want; which is exactly what happened in the Imo State APC ward congress. 2 Likes |

Chylo: With all due respect, the points you've raised here are baseless, and completely irrelevant in relation to the situation in context. Saraki's father was never Governor of Kwara State. He was a Senator in the second republic; who as a matter of fact had just recently switched from APP to PDP, and decided to support his son's governorship ambition as any father would. Tinibu supported his wife to become a senator to represent a particular political zone in Lagos and not to replace him as Governor of Lagos state. George Bush Jnr. never replaced his father as president. He gradually built his political career by first becoming a governor (not even during his father's presidency), then contested for president and won on his own merits. And Jeb Bush; the other Son you mentioned? He became governor of Florida; a state different from his father's state of Texas... And you know an interesting fact? He wasn't elected as governor during his father's precidency, so his father had no powers to "Help". 4 Likes |

Politics / PDP Speaks On Atiku’s Resignation From APC, Automatic Ticket by WilliamKhan(m): 1:43pm On Nov 25, 2017 |
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Friday stated that there would be no automatic ticket for for any aspirant or erstwhile Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, if he finally joins the former ruling party. Atiku announced his resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC on Friday. The PDP, while ruling out an automatic ticket for any party member, said whoever is interested in contesting an elective office, including the former Vice President, must be prepared to submit to constitutional provisions in the spirit of democracy. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye said this while addressing newsmen at the party’s secretariat in Abuja. He said, “The PDP is democratic party. If you come in, you are free to contest elections once you meet our constitutional requirements, but we can’t give our ticket to anybody like that (automatic). “However and unfortunately in 2013, they were deceived into believing that there was a platform that would correct all the ills in the PDP and that it could create an Eldorado in Nigeria. “We believe Atiku Abubakar has come to know the truth like he said in the statement that he has now known the truth, that the APC is not what they call themselves…That platform ( APC) is the worst platform in the history of politics in Nigeria. “I believe people like Atiku were deceived because we had challenges in our party at that point in time. They went and join the new party called the APC which we have all now see, every Nigerian has seen, is a fallacy. “The day APC was born marked a tragedy for Nigeria. It has been a monumental disaster for Nigeria. There is nothing progressive in them. Everything about them is unprogressive. Everything about them is complete disaster. “It is human to make mistakes because we are not infallible. We have no knowledge of what will happen in the future. Human beings can always be deceived. “But in John 8: 32, the Bible says ‘And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.’”
