Home A: Top News A: Top NewsPolitics Amaechi sponsoring IPOB activities in Oyigbo because of his presidential ambition – Wike By Editor- 02/11/2020 Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Monday accused the minister of transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi of being responsible for activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB in Oyigbo Local Government Area. Wike had ten days ago declared a curfew on the LGA following arson and killing of police officers due to the fallout of the #EndSARS protests. Nine security officers which include five soldiers and four police officers were killed during the riot while three police stations were burnt. However, residents of the area accused soldiers of wanton human right abuses, extra-judicial killings and destruction of properties. The residents also blamed Wike for inviting the soldiers to kill them after the crippling curfew was imposed. But reacting to the accusations on a TV programme in Port Harcourt, Wike blamed his successor for the activities of the separatist group in the LGA, adding that the minister empowered the group to dare him. According to him, “I know who is doing all these. I know who told them to rise to test Wike. It is the minister of transport, everyone knows that”. When asked why Amaechi would do that, he said, “Why would he not do that? He thinks that harassing me politically will bring me down. People know that. Everyone knows that. It is not hidden. I cannot change my identity. “If the presidency is zoned to the South-East, I will support them very well. But that does not mean to say that I am from that area”. He said that Amaechi is supporting the group because he wants to run for the office of president as an Igbo Man. https://theportcitynews.com/2020/11/02/amaechi-sponsoring-ipob-activities-in-oyigbo-because-of-his-presidential-ambition-wike/ |

Does Wike have the power to order even a recruit in the army? He is just a tactless loudmouth. His wide mouth put him in this mess. Recall that soldiers dealt with him in the 2019 elections,if not for inec he would have been an ex governor. |

Off course,Wike lacks such power to order the army to attack anybody. He's only dense and lacks tact if not he would not be in this mess. Wike himself was a victim of the Nigerian army 6th div in the 2019 elections. |

Zither: So much bile in one post. Your brothers were making fun of the killings going on at Oyigbo as if it was some exciting sports event, but you played ignorant. Now the tables have turned and it suddenly feels painful to see your suffering being made an object of mockery. If you did not caution your callous brothers at the other thread then you will do well to save your hypocrisy. It is pathetically malodorous. Address the topic, not him.
As regards the topic, the high-handedness and flagrant violation of human rights by the Nigerian Army is as old as time. One cannot blame them. They are the puppets while the government is the puppeteer. The government has done nothing to curtail their excess through reforms. Thinking they are masters at pulling the strings, they soon discover to their shock that the puppet has become the puppeteer. Don't mind the idiots. They're busy cheering the cowardly soldiers in obigbo not knowing that it could be their turn some day. |

AfroDude: Baba shift go one side. You claim to represent one nigeria and stand for justice but it seems to me that you're nothing but an ignorant, bias, no good looking mofo. I'm not in support of a few IPOB members killing law enforcement agents but where is the sense in the military lashing out on a whole tribe just because of it. I even heard that the soldiers stationed there are all fulanis. Why not conduct thorough investigation and bring to book those found guilty? Of course you and the bloodthirsty savages in uniform don't see reason in it because of your hatred for the easterners. You seem to relish their atrocities but no worry all man go collect las las. Today na igbos, tomorrow fit be yorubas Gbam!! Unfortunately you are responding to very dull dimwits, blinded by hate. |

deliveryboy: I may have commented late in this thread but I wish to point out something. You see Igbos, they are like goblins, very mischievous, they are shifty and shady, they will conceal the truth so long as it’s their brother who is at fault. They will strike you down and cry victim. They are clannish so they have an obligation to support one another regardless of the fault of their brother, they are false witnesses, they are propagandist. They are full of hatred for all non Igbos no matter how close you may be to they. They started the attacks in Oyigbo, they have always attacked other tribes, it’s been years since they have been attacking and killing other tribes. Lastly, they hate to see development anywhere, they always want to cause mayhem in other towns, they openly wish Port Harcourt is destroyed because they claim Port Harcourt people took their property during the civil war they started, they openly want Lagos destroyed because they failed at claiming Lagos is a no man’s land. Igbos tribe on mischief. But they end up being beaten in every fight they engage in. They also hate themselves deeply. Hatred has really twisted your brain. Tueh! Foolish lies |

They should warn them before Fulani cum Hausa people get involved via proxy through Rivers people. Wike one on one will take a trained athlete to defeat him. He will beat Nnamdi Kanu like his house boy. Obviously you know nothing about Rivers State. Absolutely nothing! |

Proeast2: I don't see him surviving the backlash that will emanate from the Oyigbo genocide he sponsored. Even if normalcy returns right now in that beleaguered area, enough damage has been done already that will ensure he never escapes justice.
Amnesty International has been following the genocide on their Twitter page. Same as many other humanitarian agencies.
Once the heat is turned on him, those that encouraged him to dance naked in public will deny him and watch with relish as he is dragged to Golgotha.
The wheels of Justice rolls slowly, but it eventually catches up with evil doers. Funny enough the same Wike was crying to the world as soldiers working for the APC govt almost rigged him out in the 2019 elections. The man opens his wide mouth before engaging his brain. |

One reality is that Arabs will hardly do much to assist anyone who is black. Delaying that flight when they knew that the weather will get bad and only permitting them to take off during bad weather shows how they see people with dark skin, they don't care nor see the passengers as human beings who deserves protection, for them it's all about paying the extra charges Knew the late Capt Amaechi. Built2last: Lol
They are about to make that interview popular.
Kanu gave epic historical responses in that interview that has got the entire Southern Nigeria thinking
Anyway in another news.
Some of these arguments about what is happening in Oyigbo/Obigbo are quite needless and only serve to detract from the real issue.
Regardless of whatever IPOB did or didn't do during the protest, an ELECTED GOVERNMENT has no right to send in the Military into an armless civilian population for whatever reason. The military do not use rubber bullets, teargas, water cannisters etc. They use live bullets and by virtue of their training, the only language they understand is "Open Fire" and "Cease Fire". So anyone sending in soldiers into a civilian population has only one thing in mind: BLOODSHED. If you want to arrest people you suspect were behind the destruction in your state or you want to go from house to house looking for guns you believe were taken from security agents by hoodlums, you use the Police which is the body empowered by law to deal with civilians. The police would now make arrest and charge those arrested to court where they would be given FAIR HEARING to determine their guilt or innocence. If they are innocent, they go free but if they are guilty, the law will handle them accordingly. This is how a decent society operates. The moment you brought in soldiers, what you are implying is that the people you want to go after are more powerful than the police and you now need the military to unleash their might on them. Now, this would be understandable if you were dealing with an armed group domiciled in a distinct location far removed from civilian population which is not the case here. Sending in soldiers after announcing to the whole world that 6 personnel were killed in the violence, amounts to giving those soldiers a blanket cheque to go on a revenge killing.
This is simple, really.
For emphasis, I'm not saying anyone who killed a security operative should be allowed to go free. Far from it. I'm saying the govt should use the law to deliver justice here, and should not engage in EXTRAJUDICIAL action.
And I think the argument as to whether the proper name is Obigbo or Oyigbo is foolishly silly and dumb at the same time. Distraction, really. As distracting as all the other over-extrapolated needless nuances we are injecting into this issue. Sometimes, we destroy an otherwise worthy cause with petty ill-thought out narrative and conspiracy theories even when we have enough fact to sustain such cause.
The ethnic origin of the governor of Rivers State is as irrelevant as that of the majority of the victims of this military operation in this case. Which group love you and which group doesn't love you doesn't matter.
Only one thing matters and that is that an ELECTED GOVT is using the military to carry out operation in a civilian environment with its attendant consequences. This is a recipe for EXTRAJUDICIAL killings assuming without conceding that it is not already happening. Thank you! Funny enough the uncouth governor was crying bitterly under military assault in the 2019 elections. He now deems it fit to call them in to deal with innocent civilians. |
