I don't know what you meant by "scum", but that's not true. Apart from the regular Know Your Customer (KYC) documents and info the banks do requests from their customers, banks will also request your Tax Identification Number (TIN) and TIN is issued at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

I have never heard of getting some approval at the EFCC before you can open a biz account.

A member of the Presidential Committee on the North East Initiative (PCNI) Dr. Sidi Ali Mohammed has disclosed Boko Haram fighters were being paid $3,000 daily.

He made this disclosure at the Presentation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Sub-Sahara Africa’s Economic Outlook Report, in Abuja on Monday.

According to him, the payment dwarfs the N1, 000 daily allowances paid to Nigerian troops at the war front.

Mohammed, who is the Head of the Humanitarian Assistance and Rehabilitation arm of the PCNI, lamented that Boko Haram has been hijacked and operates like a cartel.

“I will give you an example. The Nigerian military, for example, gets N1, 000 per day for being in the North East, at the war front, as an allowance.

“The same North East, where if you are a member of Boko Haram you get $3,000 per day as allowance. So it is lucrative.

“Sometimes they even give you money upfront. So we must do something about the youths from where they are recruiting.”

On how to tackle the insurgency, he said: “If it is amnesty that will guarantee that peace, then we have to think of it.

“Most importantly, we need to deplete the army of youths on the streets and take them away from the streets so that Boko Haram does not recruit them.

“Don’t forget, they (Boko Haram members) are being killed on a daily basis but they are also recruiting on a daily basis. They are getting people to recruit because it is lucrative.”

He went on: “Part of the reason why this problem has refused to go away is the abundant natural resources in the Lake Chad Region. We need to think outside the box. It is now more like a cartel.

“When you see the type of weapons they use, it is more sophisticated than the type of weapons that our military are using.”

He further stated the Boko Haram menace “is like guerilla warfare. As we are here discussing, if somebody here is a member of Boko Haram, he will not say anything.

“He goes out there to strategize and comes back. It, therefore, means the conventional ways of fighting warfare cannot work here. It, therefore, calls for thinking outside of the box.”

I graduated in the year 2015 and did my NYSC in the year 2016 to 2017. Ever since, getting a job has been something else. Well, last year I took up a teaching job in a private school and the salary is around 26 thousand naira. I have been on it for a year now. I hardly have time for my self considering the number of classes and periods.

I recently got a job with Stanbic bank as a Direct sales agent (marketing) with a salary of about 50 thousand.
I am afraid of taking up the offer because of all these bank targets and how to meet up with the target. I am afraid let me not lose the job I have now and take up this offer and can't meet up with the target.

Pls those that have done this DSA job and others can do well to advise me and give me first hand experience and way of meeting target.

This Is the kind of policy we need to grow our economy, everything will gradually fall into place, power supply will increase ( necessity is the mother of invention), domestic Cotton production will increase since the demand will increase. Job opportunities in cotton farming and textile industry will also increase, more revenue for the FG from taxes. The ban on foreign rice increased local production and created a lot of opportunities despite sabotage from daredevil smugglers. ( farming the rice, processing i.e de-stoneing and polishing the rice, domestic production of bags for the rice etc). Let us learn from other more successful countries like north Korea. Let us be optimistic and hope that this policy will do us good in the long run. I look forward to the day Nigeria will stop importing PMS and other allied products. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, we must endure whatever hardship this ban will cause for us to create a better Nigeria. Nigeria will be great again.

How can an economist say that the country is spending half of the budget deficit on imported textiles? What correlation does that have? The government isn't the one spending the money on importing the textiles. Textile importers simply source the forex from the CBN and they pay for it! They didn't dash them this money or lent it to them.

If I sell you $500,000 at 360 to a $1 and you pay me 180m and you use the $500,000 to import textiles and the ship carrying it capsizes and you lose all stock, that one no concern me. I don collect my 180m

This ban from the CBN will simply put massive pressure on the black market and there'll be a massive gap between it and the investor window down for forex.

A government trying to fight corruption should do it's utmost for all business to be done above ground and not below it where corruption is bound to thrive.

Also,there's nothing wrong in importing textiles. How will the textile factories be competitive when there's inadequate power and high lending rates. This is doomed to fail from the word go. The Bank of Industry lent them 200b in the past which I'm sure a good chunk we t down the drain

It's time government focused on an export or perish mentality because that's the proper way to industrialise and not through import substitution which forces you to pour resources on areas lack comparative advantage.

What kind of third world country is this that does not have a textile sector that is a massive exporter of textiles and garments? If the nation has failed in that, it shows there are deep-rooted problems why the textile industry is dormant here.


to promote importation and exportation which one is more important to you. Nigeria dont produce dollars they source for it, and if the country spent the dollars on commodities or goods that she can produce, of what economics importance is that?

this is in a way of making the textile sector attractive for investors to come in ( both local and foreign)

mind you, government can not create all the necessary jobs that we need rather their job is to create the enabling environment for private investors to strive, monitor/ regulate. this move is commendable though it will be tough at the beginning.
