Politics › Re: Ease Of Doing Business: Nigeria Moves Up 15 Places To 131 In Global Ranking by winnah(f): 7:57am On Oct 25, 2019 |
does it mean that all we expect to hear about Nigeria is BAD news ? any good news is false.....we rush to accept any BAD news....wat a pitty Venom236: **Named Global Top-10 Improver For The Second Time In Three Years
The World Bank’s 2020 Doing Business Index (DBI) has ranked Nigeria 131 out of 190 countries, up 15 places from 146 position last year. The report, which was released on October 24, 2019 also named Nigeria one of the top 10 most improved economies in the world for the second time in three years. Nigeria is one of only two African countries to make this highly prestigious list. With this year’s leap, Nigeria has improved an aggregate of 39 places in the World Bank Doing Business index since 2016.
The Doing Business Index is an annual ranking that objectively assesses prevailing business climate conditions across 190 countries based on 10 ease of doing business indicators. The index captures ease of doing business reforms that have been validated by the private sector, and offers comparative insights based on private sector validation in the two largest commercial cities in countries with a population higher than 100 million. The report consequently features Lagos and Kano for Nigeria.
While, briefing Mr President on the rankings, the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment and Vice Chair of the PEBEC, Otunba Niyi Adebayo stated that, “The steady improvement in Nigeria’s ease of doing business score and rank is a testament to the reforms implemented by this Administration over the past four years in line with the reform agenda being implemented at national and sub-national levels across the country since the establishment of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) by President Muhammadu Buhari in July, 2016. The PEBEC works towards the fulfillment of the projections of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP 2017-2020), which is striving to deliver sustainable economic growth in Nigeria by restoring growth, investing in our people, and building a competitive economy as we work towards delivering Mr President’s mandate of bringing 100 million people out of poverty. The 2020 Doing Business report from the World Bank has reaffirmed the commitment of the newly constituted PEBEC to making Nigeria a progressively easier place to do business and removing the bureaucratic constraints to doing business in the country as we forge ahead in this Next Level.”
The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, chaired by His Excellency the Vice President, with 13 honourable ministers as members amongst others, has through the Enabling Business Environment Secretariat collaborated with ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), the National Assembly, the Judiciary, State governments and the private sector to carry out over 140 reforms so far in a bid to remove bureaucratic constraints to doing business in Nigeria and make the country a progressively easier place to start and grow a business.
The report acknowledges reforms spearheaded by the PEBEC in the areas of operationalising a new electronic platform that integrates the tax authority and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). It also acknowledges reforms carried out in some of the World Bank Doing Business indicator areas such as starting a business, registering property, getting construction permits, getting electricity, enforcing contracts, and trading across borders.
“The CAC upgraded its name reservation platform and, in Kano, there is now an electronic platform for registering business premises online, eliminating the need to appear in person. In Lagos, land administration was made more transparent following the digitisation of cadastral plans in a geographic information system; digital copies of cadastral plans are now easily obtainable. Nigeria also made getting electricity easier by allowing certified engineers to conduct inspections for new connections. Initiatives also made commercial litigation of smaller cases more efficient. The Chief Judges in Lagos and Kano issued practice directions for small claims courts introducing pre-trial conferences and limit adjournments. Finally, customs integrated more agencies into its electronic data interchange system, and port authorities launched an e-payment system, speeding up both exports and imports.”
Welcoming the announcement, the Special Adviser to the President on Ease of Doing Business, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, noted that “the movement of 15 places to 131 as well as the recognition being given to Nigeria as one of the top 10 most improved countries, who have implemented the most reforms this year, is significant because we weren’t even able to achieve some of the key reforms we had pursued, but what we have done so far is being recognised. This validation confirms that our strategy is working and we will continue to push even harder to deliver more impactful reforms.”
“The private sector remains the fulcrum of the ease of doing business interventions. We are committed to more engagement between reform-implementing organs of government and the private sector players and we are happy to see that this has resulted in a more favourable validation of the reforms by the private sector. This result will serve as encouragement to sustain the deepening of these reforms and make it even more tangible for businesses and the citizenry. The PEBEC is focused on delivering even more substantive reforms for the improvement of the general business climate.” she further stated.
Over the past four years, Nigeria’s score has steadily improved in the World Bank Doing Business Report, after years of decline in both score and ranking in the years preceding 2016. It will be recalled that in 2017, Nigeria moved up by an unprecedented 24 places on the Doing Business rankings, and was for the first time ever, recognised as one of the top 10 reformers in the area of doing business that year.
With the impending ratification of the Companies and Allied Matters Bill and the introduction of the Business Facilitation (Omnibus) Bill, 2019 in view, along with other pending and ongoing regulatory, judicial and sub-national reforms, Nigeria is poised to meet its goal of being a top 100 ranked economy by 2020. The announcement indicates that our mandate to move into the top 70 doing business destinations by 2023 remains achievable.
Signed:
Dr Jumoke Oduwole
Special Adviser to the President, Ease of Doing Business
Secretary, PEBEC

Ur very stupid for this senseless post. Scandinavian02: Closing border to stop smuggling of goods you don't produce at home is stupidity.
Charging high tariff on all goods you don't produce or have alternative for is extended stupidity.
Having interest rate as high as 35% and then expecting people to establish factories is insanity.
Paying 12% or more interest on treasury bills and then expecting people to establish factories is insanity multiply by insanity.
Why should I invest my 1 billion Naira in agricultural sector when I can get 120 million profits on it by just fixing it in the bank for few months? Why should I create job when i can get 15% profit with a mere phone call or 100% from forex trade?
Increasing tax, introducing toll, taxing cash deposit and withdrawal are directly opposite of incentive to produce.
Who will invest his hard earn money in a country where government don't obey her own rules and court orders
If you wake up today and still think Nigeria is on her path to greatness, you are probably sick or mentally not ok. |

Shout the Bleep up.... How do u get to love once soul without getting attracted to the physical appearance of the person... Don't deceiving yourself by trying to sugarcoat your evil act... If your one please I use God name beg you repent... This brothers message is for you.... of all the opposite sex in this world u can't find anyone that u can fall in love with his/her soul (Since soul tie is what that matters to u ) is to fall in love with ur same sex... If ur parent did same will u be here talking rubbish... Again repent.... Repent ooooo!!!!! If ur a lesbian or gay.... Abeg repent Olivegreen: You're missing the point!!! Being gay is not just about gay sex just as love is not just about sex. You just quote the Bible from beginning to end but you can't interprete it with wisdom. I don't care how you have sex with your wife or husband ( by the way are you male or female?) To me, as long as you both love each other, you both can use whatever positions or methods to give yourselves pleasure during sex.
Some people just like acting blind and intentionally ignore the main point of certain issues. Sex is not the main point of the lgbtq+ community. The main point is that love is love regardless of one's gender. We fall in love with other people's souls and not their body. My body was given to me so it should not define me but my soul is who I am therefore, it defines me. If my soul loves the soul of another female then how is that wrong? I love her personality and not just her body.
Please let us stop this unreasonable spread of hate and intolerance.
Love is love. |

Debaiz: Hate him or love him that unity and promotion of local content is the handwork of OBJ.
I remember back then when he(through NBC) banned foreign musics and movies from Nigerian airwaves. B.C.O.S Ibadan used to show Indian films on Friday, Chinese films on Wednesday and American films on other days. They all stopped and were forced to show Nigerian films. AIT started showing English(Igbo) films. Then we also started hearing the likes of Olu maintain, Hedris abdulkarim, tony tetuila, plantation Boiz, tony one week etc.
He didn’t stop at that he encouraged comedians like Alibaba and the likes by constantly having a comedy slot on FGs public programs. These actions gave rise to Nigerian entertainment industry but the music industry exploded far more than anyone could’ve imagined given the advancement of the US music industry then.
The idea may not be his(originally) but kudos to him for the courage to implement it and follow through.
I can’t help but to bring the other things he banned that we are now enjoying massive local production.
Cement importation was banned. Dangote, BUA Group and Larfarge took advantage of it and became what they are today. Today, we not only export cements, but we export cement companies as a whole(dangote cement company). Jobs for Nigerians and savings on forex. Higher foreign deposit. Stable currency.
Importation of vegetable oil was banned Now we have mamador, Sunola, Grand oil, Power oil, Devon kings oil etc produced locally. Jobs for Nigerians and savings on forex. Higher foreign deposit. Stable currency.
Importation of Poultry products were banned Now we have Zartech, Tuns, Obasanjo farm, Ajanla farm and scores of businesses in either small scales or large scale. Jobs for Nigerians and savings on forex. Higher foreign deposit. Stable currency.
Pasta was banned which gave dangote and flourmill the opportunity to produce spaghetti locally. When last did anyone saw a foreign produced spaghetti in any Nigerian shop.
Same goes for noodles. We now have dangote noodles, Indomie noodles etc produced locally.
Obasanjo went as far as arresting shop owners and supermarkets that still displays and sells those banned products then. A lot of people went bankrupt through poultry products seized and destroyed. Today we are the ones enjoying the long term effect.
PMB came in he banned importation of rice. Today we are the largest producers of rice in Africa. We are also the largest importer of rice in Africa. Meaning we are not yet there but we will get there.
Again they have restricted access to forex for milk importation, enemies of progress have started antagonizing it.
If you know what is good for you as a Nigerian, start your own RUGA on that your family land. That 2million you want to blow on a wedding that may crash after two months, go and buy 10cows and let them start producing 100liters of milk each per day. That’s a total of 1000liters of milk per day, 30,000liters per month and 360,000liters in a year. Get a company to sell them to and start expanding.
If you have N2million you’re not using come and borrow me o. I have RUGA to start in my fathers compound. such a palatable post. constructively you highlighted a problem and a solution. '' If you know what is good for you as a Nigerian, start your own RUGA on that your family land. The manner and ways first class is rolling out from some of these private universities is questionable. I don't think most of our Federal universities like UNN, ABU, UNILAG etc which admits the best brains turn out these numbers of first class. Please, correct me if I am wrong.
The majority that attends private universities in Nigeria are those who could not meet up with cut off points but they have money to enter any private university. That you pass and gain admission into federal or state school is not an indication that you have something up there. |

Nmahgood: Good evening nairalanders.
I want to start up an agent banking business, how much will it cost me and what are the requirements?
Thanks in advance. No much requirement.. For Union bank / first bank. For Union bank u must have a registered business name with CAC.... While with first bank, you can do it with your personal name ( but its advisable to run it with a registered business name.. Because of the incentive and scope of operation, e.g open an account, process ATM for ur customer, remitance service, paybills, airtime sales, received deposits/withdrawal.etc) Your income is on commission bases, All the services u rendered have different commission I scale..but in terms of deposits your at liberty to set your charges based on the viability of ur location or competition.. The requirements::: Just go to first or Union bank and request to open an agent account... Then you'll be guided through... Just think of a good location ( in this business location matters a lot) and shop then design it the way u would want it to be. |

But you see the one I love most.. This is like a commandment to priesthood to collect tithe..
