that police to band imported rice was one of the best though it was tough at the beginning.
speaking from experience, I am into local food supply (source from kano).
so many people abandoned farming in kano because they invest so much in farming at the end of the harvest they couldn't sale their produce because; one
*Nigeria believes in anything imported
*foreign product appears to be so cheap
*who will invest in a place u wouldn't have a good return.
so many people in kano that I know are happily returning back to farming. I know of someone from KIRU Kano state Alhaji Dambata a rice Farmer. last year, he invested about 3million naira to harvest 800bags of rice. if you want to know if there is an improvement, go to kano or other northern state (DAWANU market) am speaking of kano because I source from there. I sale a cup of local rice for #65 per cup and #68 per cup for Nigeria stone free and long grain rice.
why are things so cheap in the north ,(ask those that supply it to ur state ) a basket of tomatoes do goes for less than #1000 in kano but it surprise me when I discovered that the same basket is #6000 in pH same to onions potato, rice, beans etc.
this is what Nigeria needs and not those that seat back to play the blame game.
people who will provide jobs and not job seekers government can't do it alone no government has ever done that.

yes they don't need to export to Nigeria directly. just export to some neighbouring countries on the request of Nigeria importers then smuggle it through the borders.

We know that there is no form of improvement in local production. you don't ban rice when local production is not sufficient

In the US, when you hear that there are tremendous gains in the stock market, instantly the society benefits from it. Instantly. I don't think you fully grasp what i am talking about. I am not talking about if the average Nigerian has access to stocks of if the oil industry has been cornered or not. I am saying that all these superficial "gains" you all are jubilating over does not add value to the average Nigerian unlike what applies in normal countries. Of what benefit is it to baba sikira when stock go up 12 percent but yet the very basic of necessities eludes him?
have you ever been to US or travel out of your state before?

There was no confession from the suppliers of indulging in the accused crime. Varriation in colour is usually as a result of source /location/production method and specie of palm fruite. Most Malaysian oil have a colour very different from ours
The price being same is because the market in the northern part of Nigeria is saturated with malaysian Oil because of its low price (not quality). Markets in the southern part are forced to sell at that price to be competitive. In other words its the Malaysian oil price that determines what Nigerian Palm Oil is sold.

Local Producers should be encouraged and not discouraged by magnifying their few flaws. how potent/healthy do u think the imported ones are?

Since we abandoned our local refineries for imported refined fuel, how available have this comodity becomehuh

It all started like this, today we import fuel when we use to refine. Never appreciating what we have until its too late.

The grass is not always greener at the other side.........................Arsene Wenger
oh!!! sweet Jesus. no one is encouraging the importation of this product.
crucified me not please.
importation does no good as compared to exportation (or having enough to satisfy ur local market.)
you asked for the name of the chemical used to increase the quantity and I think I did my homework well enough by telling you.
by importation, u import poverty/unemployment and sale out job to the other country.
it pains me, to see us import this product which is not supposed to be so.
government alone can not do the job alone. both government and private sector has to come together to achieve it.
there is so many potential in this sector to tap from.
blame not the government they have tried ( am not trying to speak in favouritism of the government but I think they are trying to make the sector attractive and that is why they are trying to discourage importation by way of partially banning it ( increasing vat)

I stand to correct this

"In other words its the Malaysian oil price that determines what Nigerian Palm Oil is sold" this is not true.
palm oil is a seasonal plant (that has both peak and off peak season)
going by the law of demand and supply.
palm tree produce less fruit during the peak season and produce more during the off peak season.
in a nutshell raining season and dry season

(produce more during dry season and less during raining season) no matter what the cost of it is always affordable at this time between 3-6 per 25lt but could rise to 7or 8 between June to august but research have it that new academic session (September) and Xmas speculation could also force and upward shift in the general price of the product.
so speculation and scarcity is the major determinant of it cost.

Major palm oil producers in the country have urged the federal government not to yield to the request of some foreign companies operating in the country to import crude oil palm into the country under the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS) as this will lead to dumping of palm oil in Nigeria.

Speaking on behalf of the Plantation Owners Forum of Nigeria (POFON); National Palm Produce Association of Nigeria (NPPAN) and Oil Palm Growers Association of Nigeria (OPGAN), in Lagos during the week, Mr. Emmanuel Ibru, the Chairman, Plantation Owners Forum of Nigeria, POFON, said they have received with shock the clamour by a company that has refused to invest in the Nigerian oil palm value chain to import 95,000 MT of crude palm oil, 50,000 MT of Stearin in bulk, 60,000MT of Crude Palm Olein and 50,000MT of Palm Fatty Acid Distillates under the West African Trade Liberalization Scheme(ETLS).

ETLS is the main ECOWAS operational tool for promoting the West Africa region as a Free Trade Area.

He said acceding to the request is tantamount to economic sabotage, adding that any attempt or plot to import refined products amounts to smuggling, “because refined vegetable oil products remain on the import prohibition list.”

Ibru said: “It is in this light that we see the ongoing plot by the company as an attempt to procure official stamp to smuggling and commit economic crime against Nigeria.”

He disclosed that the current tariff regime of 35 percent (10 percent duty and 25 percent levy) on importation of palm oil and the inclusion of palm oil in the list of commodities that do not qualify for CBN FOREX allocation have been protective of the industry and at the same time the stimulant and tonic for growth.

“It has brought about phenomenal growth as witnessed in new plantings and processing capacities across the country. Moribund oil palm plantations have bounced back in production and smallholder planting has spread far beyond the traditional oil palm belt to now include the fringe states like Kogi, Kaduna and Nasarawa states.”

Consequently, he urged the government to remain steadfast in sustaining the policies in the face of mounting pressure from speculators and rent seekers in the industry.

Also speaking during the meeting, Mr. Fatai Afolabi disclosed that all available statistics point to the fact that the Crude Palm Oil (CPO) export data recorded for some West African countries are actually exported into Nigeria from CPO that were imported into those countries.

“ In essence, these West African countries are transit points for CPO destined for Nigeria. By so doing, these countries earn their own duty, whilst they and the Nigerian importers deny Nigeria from earning revenue. This should not be allowed to continue and we say a big no to ETLS crime.”

He added that the ETLS antics some of the companies operating in Nigeria is an indirect way of applying for waivers to import CPO and prohibited items, “which government has said several times that import waivers will not be granted and we pray that this resolve be maintained.”

in as much as I won't encourage importation of this product in to this country, let the truth be told.
our local producers are doing us no good. rather they do harm than good.
they are not for the interest of the nation. theirs is to make maximum profit(am not saying its bad. but the way they go about it is bad).
I am an entrepreneur that have a greater passion for investment in this product. I was shock and almost discouraged when I see what this people are doing in other to make money at the detriment of the citizen.
as a corper as at that time what I observed in the north is that, this people will mixed chemical to every drum of CPO and have equivalent. so if ur living in the north(kano) and you think you eat fresh or good palm oil you must be a liar. all you eat is chemical. even at that their prices are still of the high side.
evey company want to maximize profit so who will buy a substandard raw material at a very high cost that is not supposed to be so. so many things have to change.
no matter what, investment in this product is the best, it could give u an average return ranging from 30-100% respectively or even more. but this people are so bent to make more profit.
as a result of the ban (export ban on this product) they took advantage and inflate the price of this product that even house hole consumer can't even purchase. I wept. the return on this product last year was at it peak over 400%. imagine. 25lt that original could cost #5000during feb-june last year was sold for between #25000-#30000. do ur calculation that is more than 400% how will buying company cope. although in my little capacity I benefited but is not to be so. this is why they are crying because its not so this year. the return of this product this year is between 30-110%.
the product alone is not even enough. the supply capacity of this product is not enough. every body are storing it up to resale during off-peak season to make more money. we are after money and not to get it right.
instead of thinking on how to developed new seed like Malaysia do the research for chemical to use in other to increase the quantity to even more than 100%

no doubt my brother. palm oil is suppose to top the chat of lucrative business in this country. I have a greater passion for it. but people that are already there are as wicked as what.... after sourcing for the original oil this people will in turn add chemical to increase the quantity. that every 25lt of original palm oil will give they another 25lt(amounting to 50lt) after adding the chemical.

That will be massive.
Am not disputing this fact, I've thought about it countless time, according to you"charity they said begins at home" we are talking about made in nigeria and not made in igbo. The toyota brand is it made by an husa man or northerner. What's the economic importance?. Charity also begins at home if you and I can't patronise our very own product irrespective of who produce it "brother who will"? Let this be a pride and dignity to us at least there's a brand of car made in nigeria by a Nigerian. It's not made in igbo but made in nigeria. Let not look at it from tribalistic,[sic] religious or ethnic view. There's more advantage

These useless politicians should learn to lead by example.

Imagine the impression it will have on the masses if this dude had patronized a Nigeria product.

And l'm not just talking about economic benefits. That singular act will also help foster our unity.

A northern governor buying a product made in the east would go a long way in engraving ''one'' Nigeria in our consciousness more than any words or propaganda ever could.

But what do l know? I'm just a #helplessyouth of a #lostcountry.
God bless you sir; I thought i'm the only one who is thinking toward that direction. If the said fund used in purchasing this vehicle was been channel to "innoson brand" it will help the company to create more jobs due to demands, the money will also remain in our economy, the company will meet up to their obligation(TAX), it will boost the supply,capital\profit Base of the company thereby enabling the company to produce more, improve their brand, and engage in an healthy competition with other car manufacturers. Someone should should slap sense into this people. This is no good news. It's a way of enriching themselves.

But is the NLNG a toxic asset?
I will say "yea" to an extent. "Ask me why" because it's not yielding to its purpose. What is toxic asset? It's an asset who's value has fallen significantly. Brother please let's be realistic, any firm, or establishment that is under the control of government is bound to fail or mismanagement most especially in our country Nigeria . It's way more better in the hands or control by the private entity. Use America as a reference point. We glamour that we have liquefied natural gas yet we haven't taped it to our best advantage. the government is incompetent to manage this sector so let it be run by the private. It just my own observation.

I would have ignored u but then u'll start thinking you are wise. The 1999 Nigerian Constitution's freedom of speech was adopted from the world referendum on such matter and hence it must subscribe to the generally accepted 'world' view on that subject. That Nigeria has abused democracy doesn't change the fact that the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution on the definition of freedom of speech is consistent with that of the global society. If this guy had written this write up in United States for instance, although authorities would have looked into the matter, nevertheless, he could have earned some charges to his detriment. Therefore, one must engage his right to speak in a manner as prescribed by the constitution. I trust that u're jotting and taking notes of this lecture
This argument is quite interesting, there's what people fail to know that there is a freedom of speech; that must not give you right to speak unguarded. "There is a freedom of speech, but let me re-assure you that there's no freedom after speech.

It is a good thing to remain calm in some situations. In Nigeria, we shouldn't take things seriously. As a youth, it's high time we stopped talking or writing against the government and start developing ourselves to touch lives. Writing heavy essays, protesting (putting our lives in jeopardy) and arguing about how government is bad didn't and won't solve any problem. We can only solve the problem by investing in ourselves, empowering our fellow youths and be the best we can be. Let's be our government.
criticism matters a lot. At this point, it outline a problem and if properly check it will achieved it's purpose. It's nice to criticise but it will be more proper when it's a constructive criticism.

Just say you want to buy.

You want the NLNG be sold for 15 Billion Dollars that some people in government have in their back pocket?
Has it occurred to you how they got the money in the first place?

There are many times I agree with Dangote but this isn't one of them.
Take it o leave it I agree with him. He is right. It's all about th country to boost her reserve sell off those toxic asset. Then use the proceed to boost our foreign reserves.

Hmmmmm imagine you " it's no good news" , tree can not make a forest so they say. America is great today my brother is not because of th government but the collective afford of the citizen. 80% of job in USA is been provided by an individual not govt. So if this company can start we should appreciate because they do not just provided this commodities but also great an employment. So if you an I can do the same and others join, what do you think will happen? They have solve a problem have you? So since you can do that appreciate and patronise them.

Imagine the way people are thinking. Isn't it best for us to eat our own rice rather than importing it. If you don't patronise our own product who will?. There's no crime to this, if we patronise our own commodities, all things being equal the company will contribute significantly to the growth of the economy and as such help to provide employment.
