Joseph was a disciple not a 'minister'. Hezekiah was a king. Very shody examples you have of Christian preachers being filthy rich. cheesy cheesy

Listen Negro,
A Christian can be a billionaire or dirt poor. We have both in the New Testament. But we have never had billionaire full time ministers until 21st century. It's like they suddenly discovered some trick that was hidden from all the previous generation of believers.

What trick did they discover? Making merchandise of the gospel

2 Peter 2:3 King James Version (KJV)
3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

1 Timothy 6:5 King James Version (KJV)
5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

They live for spiritual tips. They have secrets Paul was not privy to
Lol, Paul was a man just like you. Even our Lord Jesus Christ said we will do greater works.
And Did the Bible ever give examples of ministers, or pastors, or evangelists, or bishops and so on. The disciples were evangelists and more of such titles today.
You sound more stup1d each time you use the word Negro.
We will have more Billionaire pastors and christians as man keeps unfolding the untapped blessings that God has for man. Even many of God's generals had financial problems, this was never God's will.
Brace yourself, a new wave of billionaire christian and ministers are about to surface.

Wealthy pastors are often criticized, but i wonder what people of this generation would say during the time of King David, King Solomon, John Rockefeller e.t.c,

Christianity Etc › Why Was Jesus Christ Called The Son Of God?. by winner01(op): 10:58am On Aug 19, 2015
Exodus 3:14. And God said unto Moses, "I AM WHO I AM"

Son of God

What does that title mean exactly, and what significance does it have for people today?
First, the term does not mean Jesus was the literal offspring of God the Father, as each of us is the child of our human father. The Christian doctrine of the Trinity says the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are co-equal and co-eternal, meaning the three Persons of the one God always existed together and each has the same essence and same importance.
Second, it does not mean God the Father mated with the virgin Mary and fathered Jesus in that way. The Bible tells us Jesus was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit. It was a miraculous, virgin birth.
Third, the term Son of God as applied to Jesus is unique. It does not mean he was a child of God, as Christians are when they're adopted into God's family. Rather, it points out his divinity, meaning he is God.
Others in the Bible called Jesus the Son of God, most notably Satan and demons . Satan, a fallen angel who knew the true identity of Jesus, used the term as a taunt during the temptation in the wilderness.
Unclean spirits, terrified in Jesus' presence, said, “You are the Son of God.” (Mark 3:11, NIV).

Son of God or Son of Man?

Jesus often referred to himself as the Son of Man. Born of a human mother, he was a fully human man but also fully God. His incarnation meant he came to earth and took on human flesh. He was like us in every way except sin.
The title Son of Man goes much deeper, though. Jesus was speaking of a 600 year old prophecy in Daniel 7:13-14 . Jews of his day, and especially the religious leaders, would have been familiar with that reference.
In addition, Son of Man was a title of the Messiah, the anointed one of God who would free the Jewish people from bondage. The Messiah had long been expected, but the high priest and others refused to believe Jesus was that person. Many thought the Messiah would be a military leader who would liberate them from Roman rule. They could not grasp a servant Messiah who would sacrifice himself on the cross to free them from the bondage of sin.
As Jesus preached throughout Israel, he knew it would have been considered blasphemous to call himself the Son of God. Using that title about himself would have ended his ministry prematurely. During his trial by the religious leaders , Jesus answered their question that he was the Son of God, and the high priest tore his own robe in horror, accusing Jesus of blasphemy.

What Son of God Means Today

Many people today refuse to accept that Jesus Christ is God. They consider him only a good man, a human teacher on the same level as other historic religious leaders.
The Bible, however, is firm in proclaiming Jesus is God. The Gospel of John , for example, says "But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." (John 20:31,NIV).
In today's postmodernist society, millions of people reject the idea of absolute truth. They claim all religions are equally true and there are many paths to God.
Yet Jesus said bluntly, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6,NIV). Postmodernists accuse Christians of being intolerant; however, that truth comes from the lips of Jesus himself.
As the Son of God, Jesus Christ continues to make the same promise of eternity in heaven to anyone who follows him today: "For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” (John 6:40, NIV).

belabela:
I have followed a few of your posts on this topic and I wil say your thinking is interesting, It appears you believe in science as a religion which directly corresponds to you not being a scientist.

I am a scientist and trained with one of the best in the world - Interestingly my mentor is an atheist and I am a christian. My mentor in science is in the top five in our field of science and engineering in the world and I worked with him for 6 years - sysnthesing stuffs, attending conferences and debating science ideas. Why am I telling you this? To give you an insight into my exposure of science. And just to add I have a personal interest in theology and have been touched by the bests in that field too.

Science is not a religon. However there is a growing number of non-scientists like you who are making a religion out of science. There is nothing like, to quote you " the scientific answer". If scientists have that approach research would have stopped long tme ago. This approach is promoted by the media not the science community.

Most pioneers of modern science including charles darwin, isaac newton, albert einstein etc were religious men, they weren't atheist. They believed in God. You may say they have a probelm with the way the church at the time presented God to them - but they did not claim there is no God.

This is what Einstein said “To sense that behind everything that can be experienced there is something that our minds cannot grasp, whose beauty and sublimity reaches us only indirectly: this is religiousness. In this sense...I am a devoutly religious man.”

In response to a young girl who had asked him whether he believed in God, he wrote: “everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe—a Spirit vastly superior to that of man.”

And on the relationship between religion and science, Einstein declared: “the situation may be expressed by an image: science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.”

It will appear that it takes a bigger faith to belive there is no God than to believe there is a God. Macro evolution is not testable over time - i.e. billions of years and there is no evidence that in the last 7000 years any species had completed its macro evolution. Seems there is a gap there. Micro evolution is mere adaption - which is a charateristic of a living thing. If you have no spoons you will use your hand to eat. If you have no hand you may start using your leg or eat like a dog. If your tongue is tied you will make sounds to communcate with your environment. That's not evolution but adaptaion. However some in the scence community argue its part of the evolutionary process.

To conclude there is no singular view on scientific theory. Scientifc laws however are agreed such as the law of gravity but evolution isn't a law but a theory and that means not all scienctists agree with it. Intelligent design theory is out there, like evolution not all scientsts agree with it. So you cannot say the scientific explanation. There are many different scientifc explanations to a problem and though different they are all scientific
Only a myopic person will claim there's no God. It becomes more irritating when such people claim not to believe in chance or science. It makes me loose grips with what such people think they are.
If a super intelligent Being created the universe and man, then how can man ever use his created senses to probe His Existence undecided
I guess the pioneers of mordern science figured this.

@ underlined , explain Mark 10:45 , how could jesus sacrifice his soul if the soul is immortal ?
I dont really understand your question...Did you mean the essence of Jesus' death and ressurection because i have never come accross an immortal soul in the teachings of the Bible.
Man has never had an immortal soul that allows him to live past death. The only means by which man can live into eternity is to repent of his sins, accept Jesus as his Savior, become baptized and receive God's spirit, then live a life of overcoming until death.
God made man in his own image, but not of the same substance that he possesses. Our Creator is composed of spirit and is eternal. Humans were made, however, out of the ground or organic substance that constitutes the earth. Adam only became a "living being" (but not an immortal soul) when God breathed life into him.
Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins shall die.

I had an argument with a friend of mine, he keep calling me an athiest because I said the bible is inaccurate and I can't leave my life based on a book with so many errors and contradictions.

I don't believe in all this supernatural stuffs either, like witches and wizards, demons etc or some silly doctorines we have in the bible like women being submissive and a divorcee not allowed to get married etc

I just believe in one thing: love!

So am I less a christian for not beliving the bible and all the other things I mentioned? If am not a christian what am I?

Yeah, God created the heavens and the earth, im glad you are not like some fools here who believe that existence is by chance.
Secondly, The Bible God is the only God that proclaims love, peace and hope. He offers salvation and redemption even to sinners.
The Holy Bible is the only Book called the word of God and TRUTH.
If you feel there are errors in God's word, point them out here and light will be shed on it.

Permit me to say You are confused by saying you believe in God and dont believe in the supernatural... God is a SUPERNATURAL Being who created the Natural...

If you believe Solely in Love, well, There is only one God that offers that. Matt 22:37-39...
I suggest you drop religion and embrace truth.
May the God of peace be with you.

Higher animals like monkeys have been shown to demonstrate and understand morality. You are yet to show evidence that they don't. Instead of denying something that has been established why don't you produce your own study that shows that they don't understand or appreciate rudimentary morality. They have their own conscience. Your dog can see you in distress and offer to help you without being trained, Many dog owners can testify to that.
Darwin also established that humans developed from apes with "evidence", and i should buy that because...undecided...
some Animals communicate in their own way and get more impressive when trained...fact still remains that there is no moral code in animals, but some can be taught to do impressive things. It still does not signify conscience...
You should give your own study not another persons, if you want mine. And kindly extend your study to other animals.
Christianity Etc › God's Generals; The Story Of John G. Lake. by winner01(op): 6:48pm On Aug 16, 2015
Date of birth: March 8, 1870
Death: September 16, 1935
Marriage: J. stevens / F.switzer
Children: 12 children

John G. Lake

"No words of mine can convey to another soul the cry that was in my heart and the flame of hatred for death and sickness that the Spirit of God had stirred within me. The very wrath of God seemed to possess my soul!"

These words summarized the passion that propelled the life-long ministry of John G. Lake. He spoke these words in reference to the intensity of emotion he felt as his thirty-four year old sister lay dying. He had already witnessed eight of his fifteen siblings die from illness--yet he had also witnessed the miraculous healing of his own childhood rheumatoid arthritis, as well as a sister’s cancer and brother’s blood disease under the ministry of John Alexander Dowie. It was already too late to take this sister who now lay dying to Dowie’s Healing Home in Chicago, so he telegraphed Dowie with a desperate plea for prayer. Dowie telegraphed back: “Hold on to God. I am praying. She will live.” That simple declaration caused John Lake to wage a furious spiritual attack on the power of death – and within the hour his sister was completely healed.

It was battles such as this—at death’s very door—that brought John G. Lake face to face with his convictions. Was he going to stand by as the enemy took yet another loved one from him, or was he going to choose to stand in the enemy’s way? Such an opportunity again presented itself on April 28, 1898, when his wife of five years lay dying. Jennie battled for breath in her final hours when Lake finally put his foot down. He would not tolerate the enemy stealing away the mother of his children and his spiritual partner. He determined to believe God’s Word as it was revealed to him for her healing and at 9:30 a.m. he contended for her life in prayer upon which she rose up healed, praising the Lord in a loud voice. News spread of Jennie’s miraculous healing, and from that time on, John Lake was sought after for the power of his healing anointing.

Such was the power of his anointing that he wrote about it as being like the lightning of Jesus: “You talk about the voltage from heaven and the power of God! Why there is lightning in the soul of Jesus! The lightnings of Jesus heal men by their flash! Sin dissolves and disease flees when the power of God approaches!” Lake would also compare the anointing of God’s Spirit to the power of electricity. Just as men had learned the laws of electricity, Lake had discovered the laws of the Spirit. And, as God’s “lightning rod,” he would rise within God’s calling to electrify the powers of darkness and solidify the body of Christ.

In 1901, at the age of thirty-one, Lake moved to Zion, Illinois, to study divine healing under John Alexander Dowie. But in 1904, when Dowie’s increasing financial problems began to surface, Lake decided to distance himself and relocated to Chicago. When his personal investments in Zion properties left him in near financial ruin following Dowie’s death in 1907, he bought himself a seat on the Chicago Board of Trade and over the next year was able to accumulate over $130,000 in the bank and real estate worth $90,000. This prompted the notice of top business executives who asked Lake to form a trust of the nation’s three largest insurance companies for a guaranteed salary of $50,000 a year. He was now a top business consultant to top business executives making money on the side through hearty commissions as well. By turn-of-the-century standards, John Lake was making a fortune.

For a while he was able to juggle his great secular success and grow in his desire for God. He had learned to walk in the Spirit as he described like this: “It became easy for me to detach myself from the course of life, so that while my hands and mind were engaged in the common affairs of every day, my spirit maintained its attitude of communion with God.” But by 1907, he yielded to the call to full-time ministry, and he and Jennie sold their estate and all their belongings. From that point on the Lake’s relied on God for provision as they traveled the country ministering. By January of 1908, they began praying for the necessary finances to take their team to Africa.

In April of that same year, the Lakes and their seven children left for Africa with only money to pay for passage on the ship. In faith, they believed God for the finances necessary to gain them admittance into the country and for provision once they arrived. He provided what they needed as they were lining up to pay upon leaving the ship, and once aground, a miraculous housing offer presented itself before they had even left the dock. They immediately settled into a furnished home in Johannesburg. Days later, John was asked to fill in for a South African pastor who was taking a leave of absence. Over five hundred Zulus were in attendance his first Sunday in the pulpit, and as a result, revival broke out so that within weeks multitudes in from the surrounding area were saved, healed, and baptized in the Holy Spirit. The success astounded Lake so that he wrote: “From the very start it was as though a spiritual cyclone had struck.” In less than a year, he had started one hundred churches.

Ministry success came at a price. Before the year was out, on December 22, 1908, Lake came home to find Jennie had died from physical exhaustion and malnutrition. He was devastated. Early in 1909, he returned to the States to recuperate, raise support, and recruit new workers. By January of 1910, he was headed back to Africa in the midst of a raging plague there (The Bubonic plague). He was among few who ministered to the sick and dying. He proved to local physicians that the germs would not live on his body due to the Holy Spirit alive in Him. He actually verified this under a microscope showing that the germs died upon contact with his body. Those who witnessed the experiment stood in amazement as Lake gave glory to God explaining that: “It is the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus.
I believe that just as long as I keep my soul in contact with the living God so that His Spirit is flowing into my soul and body, that no germ will ever attach itself to me, for the Spirit of God will kill it.”

In 1912, after five years of ministry in Africa, having produced 1,250 preachers, 625 congregations, and 100,000 converts, Lake returned to the United States. In 1913 he married Florence Switzer with whom he had five children. They settled in Spokane, Washington, where they founded the Spokane Healing Home and the Apostolic Church, which drew thousands from around the world for ministry and healing. In May of 1920, the Lakes left Spokane for Portland, Oregon, where he started another Apostolic Church and healing ministry similar to the one in Spokane.

By 1924, Lake was known throughout America as a leading healing evangelist. He had established forty churches throughout the United States and Canada in which there had been so many healings that his congregations nicknamed him “Dr.” Lake. In December of that year, Gordon Lindsey, founder of Christ for the Nations in Dallas, Texas, was converted while hearing Lake preach in Portland. He attended his services nearly every night for a week and considered Lake to be a mentor. Lindsey later contracted deadly ptomaine poisoning, but was totally healed once he was able to get to Lake’s home.

In 1931, Lake returned to Spokane at the age of sixty-one. He was weak with fatigue and nearly blind. God ultimately restored his vision after Lake had a “talk” with the Lord about it. Sadly, on Labor Day of 1935, after returning from a church picnic, John G. Lake went home to be with the Lord. He was sixty-five years old.

"I can see as my spirit discerns the future and reaches out to touch the heart of mankind and the desire of God, that there is coming from heaven a new manifestation of the Holy Spirit in power, and that new manifestation will be in sweetness, in love, in tenderness, and in the power of the Spirit, beyond anything your heart or mind ever saw. The very lightning of God will flash through men’s souls. The sons of God will meet the sons of darkness and prevail.

The dog did it unsolicited. Used its conscience to save its owner when it saw it in danger and in need of help. Other dogs can be taught to do that. Kids are taught that. Their conscience is shaped. Many kids will see food opened and leave it like that. Others will even kick it away if it stands on their way, but they can be taught to close it and keep it for their brother or sister, they will learn and act accordingly.
It did not use its "conscience", it used its ability, fortified by learnt skills.
Animals are directed by their abilities, needs, and learned behaviors, not by a moral code...

Preserve my food or it's ( the animal) food?
Your food!!!
I purposely used an illustration you can relate with..
You conscience tells you to return the money you stole or to preserve your brother's meal in his absence after youve had yours, even if you are still hungry.
Point is conscience makes you do as you will want others to do unto you.
Show me an animal that will preserve your food....
I suggest you shut up from here onwards.

If you want to worship an invisble, all knowing, all mighty cigar packet, it is your choice, your life. Whether the acts of worship are acceptable to El Cigar Packanna is not my business; that's his to determine and you, as a faithful believer, to follow.
For example, El Cigar Packanna might not want you to have sex before the age of 18, might require you bend your ass sideways facing the south at 9am every morning. Your faithful obligation, my comic destination. See...

My point is there is no proof that human morality required any external influence. But we've seen morality and our sense of whats considered wrong/right change and evolve over the years.

And tbh dear, I do not hate your God. I can not stoop so low. He reminds me of our ancient past. Uncultured, cruel, petty, a psychopath.
If you do not hate Him, you would be out of this section already undecided

Yeah, murdering a bunch of people because of their nationality is the same as having consensual homosexual sex. Why am I not surprised?
Consensual sex you say...

How about paedophilia (if the kid gives consent)undecided
How about beastiality too (at least we do worse things to animals, like killing them)undecided
How about necrophilia (at least the deaceased was consenting before he/she died)undecided

come off it, there is never any justification for evil

A - Can I rephrase that to say 'Our ability to know right from wrong is evidence of God'? Could you elucidate a bit what this quote means? What is considered right/wrong varies across different numerous tribes/regions around the world. Can this be said to be evidence of multiple Gods? Are all humans born with the same concept/understanding of morality? Note similarity doesn't necessarily mean same.

B - And WHO has claimed nature 'gave' us a conscience?

I believe morality, and in turn conscience, is modelled and shaped by societies/environments one might find himself in.
I get baffled when the idea of conscience makes sense to an atheist undecided. Well as narrated in the Bible, during creation God imprinted into the nature of man His Divine Image, which draws man toward everything that is morally good and averts him from everything that is morally evil. This inner law works through the voice of conscience, which justly is called the voice of God in man. Because it is an integral part of human nature, it is active in all people regardless of their age, race, education, or development.

As you rightly said, right and wrong varies among different regions of the world, But you will agree with me that in the culture and customs of past and present nations, all people, even the most primitive tribes, distinguish between what is good and what is bad, between good man and evil man, between virtue and vice. They are all agreed on this: that the good is worth striving for, that evil be shunned, and that the one deserves praise, the other, blame. Though in individual cases they may not be one in denominating the same thing good or evil, they are nevertheless agreed as to the general principle that good is to be done and evil avoided. The occasional discrepancy in labeling some actions as good or evil seems to come from the particular circumstances in which a given nation develops. It is a universally recognized principle that one should not do to others what he would not wish them to do to him. Vice everywhere seeks to hide itself or put on the mask of virtue at least in the past, Unlike todays world where vice is celebrated.

Now, every human is familiar with his inner voice which on occasion accuses and oppresses him, and on occasion brings him joy. This small subtle voice, an inborn feeling (conscience). Conscience by its nature is a spiritual instinct, which more clearly and quickly differentiates between good and evil than does the mind.

Deep within man there is a consciousness of God and an idea of what is required of him by God. John wrote, “That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world” (John 1:9). By this he implied the light of God shines within every person. Paul recognized this phenomenon among heathen, “By this they show that the process of the Law is written in their hearts which is witnessed by their conscience and thoughts, which either punish or justify one another" ” (Rom. 2:15). The conscience of man dwells in the heart, acting as a moral regulator regarding right or wrong.
The main idea implied in the word “conscience” is “a knowing with oneself.” Since memory and thinking operate as a function of the heart, it is the apparent location for the conscience. The heart/personality is the place where God communicates to the individual. However, it is possible for man continually to reject the message of his conscience and render it inoperative (1 Tim. 4:2). An incapacitated consciousness of God is called a seared conscience.

Our personal experience convinces us that this inner voice, called conscience, is not under our control but expresses itself spontaneously in spite of our will. In addition, just as we cannot persuade ourselves that we are full when we are hungry or that we are rested when we are tired, similarly we cannot convince ourselves that our behavior is correct when our conscience tells us otherwise.

In general, conscience is a very sensitive moral evaluator - especially in children and young people, who are still pure and innocent. If we were not stained by sin, we would not need any external guidance, and conscience alone could precisely direct our behavior. The necessity for written law arose from original sin when man, dimmed by passion, failed to hear clearly the inner voice. Even In daily relationships with people, we subconsciously trust the conscience more than written laws and regulations. Indeed, it is impossible to have laws for every imaginable situation and to foresee how to preclude any attempts at breaking them. After all, shrewd people manage to twist and manipulate even the clearest of laws. So we normally hope that conscience, which works inside every person, will compel the person we are dealing with to do what is morally good and just. Once again, Conscience is in-born, even though society and experiences might try to introduce vices to an individual.
