Well, I would start off. I had a B.Eng in Electrical/Electronics Engineering; and currently on an M.Sc program in Electronics & Computer Engineering (Nigeria). I would like us to share ideas, topics, questions, discuss our struggles and challenges so that others, both current and intending students in any field/discipline can benefit.
Lets make this thread worth every click and view! All the best!!!
You have a great combination there (Elec/Comp), one of the emerging fields now is Artificial intelligence. Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques are now being used by the practicing engineer to solve a whole range of hitherto intractable problems be it communication, production, environmental, biomedical etc. I have used AI mostly for environmental and bio-medical applications. You may look at the AI and see what you can do about it.

These are some of the works done using AI:

1. A combined negative selection algorithm–particle swarm optimization for an email spam detection system

2. A multi-agent system for distribution grid congestion management with electric vehicles

3. Neuro-fuzzy approach for online message scheduling

4. In-situ bioremediation for petroleum contamination: A fuzzy rule-based model predictive control system

5. Shape optimization of free-form steel space-frame roof structures with complex geometries using evolutionary computing

These are interesting and deeply practical-based works....they will suit Africa ....

If yes, I doubt you would come back to Nigeria for the rest of your career. grin
Waow...Yes Nigeria is a great country and place...There are many things i have seen there in Nigeria that we buy very expensive here but they are so abundant and wasting in Nigeria. So i will come to Nigeria and make very good money cos is a rich nation with too many raw materials that are wasting.....Do you know in Nigeria, they have plenty algea, coconut, etc?

My friend brought some algea from Nigeria and waow just little bag like 5kg, we got 3Kg sodium alginate from it...thats goes for 300 pounds. imagine he only uprooted the algea from one bush in Nigeria.......so you use too much money to make.....I love Nigeria, Nigerian people and Africa....Am a Nigerian cos i love that green passport and i always hide that other colored passport when am traveling.

Thank you for those links and I am impressed a bit. At least, somebody with PhD is able to come up with something in the field of Chemistry unlike the others I have seen on this thread. Your articles are interesting looking at the abstracts but there is a lot missing as you couldn't provide how they can be useful to the Nigerian society. However, I am interested in what you can do with them to move Nigeria forward.

Can somebody send message to the Nigerian government we have a PhD holder who has many works which can be useful to our society?!

I would do my best to purchase one of your articles and look into it properly! If it worth what you claim then I will try to forward it to famous Chemistry journals and see what would come out of it.

Thank you once again.

Dear English Man,

I had to show you those links just to know you more and understand what am dealing with. I have to correct you on some terms and also explain how things work:

You have written peer-to-peer on occasions: It is called peer-reviewed articles after the articles have been published, it is called peer-review journals if such journals undergo blind reviewing system. Take note of that.

Journal Reviewer: Is a specialist, expert or versed professional in his/her field of studies and plays essential roles in scholarly publishing. Such expert must be invited by renowned journals to review others submitted manuscripts due to his/her expertise in that field.

Forwarding published articles to famous journals: so funny and when I read this part, I had to forget the chilled winter waves flowing down my nerves. If you try this, the authors will be served infringement notice. You cannot publish a text, part, figures or tables from already published work. So you cannot send my works to any journals you called FAMOUS journals....

Famous journals: how do you grade journals? In scientific or academic world, we hardly use the word 'famous' to characterize a journal. There are some parameters that are used to grade journals such as h-index, i-index, indexing, abstracting, impact factor, source normalized impact per paper etc....those are the metrics that we use.

The bold part of your statement: Unfortunately I don't live in Nigeria, currently each of my published work is paid by the organization i work with and Turkish govt cos the works benefit them. Tubitak is established by Turkish govt and the body characterized each journal by points and after publication the researcher must have Turkish tax number and will be paid for each work published, raging from 1000-5000 USD per a paper. You may google Tubitak to learn more.

I have works on oil recovery with NNPC, a current project with some Nigerian researchers on the use of waste eggshells as heterogeneous catalyst for biodiesel production (sponsored by NNPC). You want link on thishuhhuh

Whatever! They are the same thing. In fact it is not peer-reviewed but peer review(peer-to-peer review is a jargon I often used to expressed the idea of it coming from both the researcher and those who scrutinize it). I find it fascinating how you try to correct me only to end up with wrong grammatical errors. However, I would like you to post the links of your researches here for us all to see. Not mouthing here when you have contribute nothing to the development of the country. It is funny how you mention Turkish government sponsoring your elusive researches though. They say, 'action speaks louder than words'. Show me your research to can help Nigeria move forward, please!

I am not an editor, researcher nor do I review people's works. I am ordinary young man(partly a Nigerian)who likes to challenge Nigerian PhD holders to their contributions to the development of the society with their overrated high knowledge at this point, not until the can prove it.
Hmmm you made me laugh....Read some here ....is good to have someone like you..............If you live in Nigeria or any other country outside academic units that subscribed to those journals, you wont have access to the full text of the articles.

Can he get a 50% scholarship and can the first tuition fee be paid in installment ?....tnx in advance
Good day,

No he wont be admitted at EMU irrespective of his earlier educational pursuit since age limit for mostly African prospective undergraduate students at EMU is 25yrs.

Some other University may consider him in TRNC, example METU will like to scrutinize his transcript and ensure they know the reason for another undergrad studies. I think CIU, NEU, GAU may not care about the age, so you can ask him to get in touch with those if he is satisfy with them.

Boss, you may go for Post Doc if you need to improve your knowledge in your current area or expand to new area. 1-2yrs Post Doc may be nice but with Good number of articles you will surely or possibly get Asst.Prof positions although some uni or research org may require for post doc experience.

@wip7, you are indeed a great inspiration . Please as stated in my previous post, please can you kindly highlight the steps you went through in securing your doctoral admission. This is to enable intending students follow these steps.
I schooled in different countries tasted Europe and Canada. Admission process varies from one country to another, am not familiar with Nigerian or African PhD admission process. I have co-supervised 7 master students recently and for me what i look for in students that will work with me is research capability, will, innovative ideas and background in intended field of studies. PhD applicants must be a able to prepare good Résumé, strong research proposal and varying background.

For me, I can or will only work with applicants that possess the following and thats what my supervisors do check also when we are taking students into our group:

1. Novel research plan: applicants must be able to demonstrate the skills, background experience and replicate innovative ideas on next or possible research they will work on

2. Ability to use modern and basic tools (softwares, analytical equipments etc)

3. Good Résumé

4. Write concise and sound email to your potential supervisor asking if you can work with him/her. Follow up on the response

5. If admitted, all supervisors want students that will work diligently on research and publish good number of articles, attend meaningful conferences and present their works.

6. Phd candidates must be able to use enough softwares in their field, proficient in dealing with research.

7. Choose university or country that will recognize your research input and one way or the other support you financially. For me, each publication in my end ranges btwn 170-500K in Naira the university and Govt paid each time you publish, so this geared me up to publish more and while doing this earned me more respect in the academic world and, I started receiving reviewing invitations. Although many students do not look or know they should also look for the following benefits.

8. Enough publications open ups wide positions to choose from etc.

9. Applicants must ensure they check the departments website before they go their to see the equipments they have and if is what they need to carryout their work. Without adequate equipments research will be boring and slow.

-Msc Polymer and medicinal Chem
-Msc Chemistry
-PhD Environmental analytical Chem
-Published 32 peer review articles currently
-16 research articles under editorial review
-Reviewer for the following Journals: Journal of Hazardous materials, Journal of water process Engineering, Korean Journal Of Chemical Eng, Arabian Journal of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering communications journal, Journal of nanoparticles etc
- 48 international conferences
- Current Junior research leader on Turkish Govt sponsored project worth 500,000 TL (recovery of boron and oil waste)
- Two book chapters on Springer: Nano-ceramic materials: preparation and applications (Springer publisher), Smart materials for bio-medical applications
- Member American chemical society, Society of environmental and toxicology society, Society of Chemical industries, member American Black Engineers, Canadian Chemical Eng society etc.

Attached some of the work done and certificate issued by Elservier.

The most interesting aspect of PhD studies is the research, the research brings money, fame and capability to solve problems. If PhD students can publish good number of articles will not have much job issues especially in innovative fields and emerging areas.

Sir wip...... God bless u for all ur info on this thread. I can see that u hv been of a great help to thousands, and many more yet to come. Well I pray God strengthenes you and increase u. well as for the standard and international recognition what's ur stake on the GAU...

Then 2ndly how's the girne(kyrenia) location, will u advice one from nigeria to go there strictly for studies(masters level)
Thanks for the prayer. GAU is a private University located in TRNC and as earlier stated by a respondent, its a standard university with modern facilities. You may check GAU recognition and accreditation on the university website..that will give you a deeper knowledge. I had a friend that recently graduated PhD there and employ with great salary as Assistant professor in Singapore. .....

.......Studying in Harvard may not mean you will be successful or not but the facilities couple with your personal devotion and creativity set you high.....and Vice versa.

If you are science based, check the web of the university or department you want to study, ensure they have the necessary machines, equipment and devices in your intended field, look for scientific publications of the scholars in that field and if you a satisfy go for it and you may even email some of the instructors and ask questions on their research and how capable they are....these are what i expect of prospective students.

Location may not seriously matter if your intent is to study and focus.....if there are facilities and mobility around then....underwater you can succeed...

You applied as a fresher not as transfer student...so you dont expect the school to know your mind, they evaluate based on your application material and your choice. If you apply as transfer student with APTECH ADSE transcript you will spend 1.5 yrs at EMU not 1 year.

Your statement seems that you got the period wrong as far as i know. At EMU we dont offer admission in Summer for international student for now. Let me break it down. FALL (students resume around September) and SPRING (students resume around February). If you had been admitted for last semester and could not made it to EMU and wish to resume for incoming semester, kindly email the registrar office with the old Admission letter and ask for renewal. The evaluation unit will re-evaluate your application and if suitable, you shall be issued new offer letter and then you can make your payment.............do you think your question has been answered?

You can't apply for Greece visiting visa from Turkey unless you are valid resident of Turkey. The available routes are illegal way via sea or land which may cost a life (heavy security, sinking, kidnapping and sometimes gunshots) due to strict readmission policy signed between Turkey and EU recently since the land route from Turkey to Greece is presently the route most frequently used by migrants travelling to the European Union from all over the world.........So get the right visa and travel with peace of mind...life is sweeter!

Turkey is not an Arab nation, is a transcontinental republic with its smaller part in Southeastern Europe and its larger part in Western Asia. The new readmission treaty signed by Turkey and EU now will be allowing Turkish national to travel visa free to Schegen and western Europe countries if its come into force....unfortunately Turkey is yet to finalize since her leaders think Turkey is fast becoming both a destination country for asylum-seekers and immigrants.

As Worry359 pointed out to you, several sections or pages of this thread had answered all the questions you have asked. For emphasis sake...Tuition fees are not refunded unless you can get a proof of denial and statement from the embassy alongside your refund application. The university does not process visa for prospective students, what the university does is to furnish the embassy with details (amount paid, program admitted into, your biodata), it is the job of the embassy to carry out their own investigation by means of interview to find any applicant eligible for visa or not. As mentioned above, dont bother pay agents...the process is simple and easy if you can read and write!
