Politics / Nigerian Army Uncovers Firearms And Drone Manufacturing Factory In Delta (Photo) by Wisdomkosi(m): 12:11pm On Mar 12
Nigerian Army troops say they have uncovered and neutralized a major firearms and drone manufacturing factory allegedly operated by the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

According to Army spokesman, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the factory was located at Onicha Ulona in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.

He said the troops faced stiff resistance upon raiding the facility but managed to overpower the armed fighters in a fierce firefight.

Nwachukwu said two of the fighters were neutralized, and a substantial cache of arms and ammunition was recovered.

”Items captured by the troops include, a wide range of IPOB/ESN firearms, ammunition, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and a drone manufacturing factory.

”Other items recovered are a variety of weapons, drones under construction, with prototypes, Improvised Explosive Device materials, a fully equipped workshop, and several power generating sets.

”Troops also apprehended four male and two female fighters during the operation,” he stated.

He assured members of the public of the troops’ unalloyed commitment to dismantling terrorists’ and insurgents’ networks.

”We urge the public to continue to support the Nigerian Army and other security agencies as they strive to restore peace and stability in the country,” he concluded.

Politics / Tinubu’s Govt Orders Revocation Of Licences Of Electricity Distribution Companie by Wisdomkosi(m): 12:00pm On Mar 12
Tinubu’s govt orders revocation of licences of electricity distribution companies

President Bola Tinubu’s administration has directed the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to withdraw licenses of non-performing electricity distribution companies (DISCOs).

This is as power generation dropped year-on-year (YoY) by 21 per cent to 3,475MW in March 2024, from 4,404MW in the corresponding period of 2023, due to many problems, especially low investment and inadequate gas supply.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, stated this during a meeting with the head of the agencies in Abuja on Monday.

Adelabu accused the DisCos of not doing enough to improve supply despite the availability of power on the national grid adding that distribution segment remains the weakest link in the electricity supply value chain.

Adelabu stressed that NERC must look for creative ways of getting the DISCOs to improve supply including the imposition of stiff sanctions on utilities which fail to pick their allocations and outright cancellation of lincences.

He insisted that the franchise areas covered by the DISCOs were too large, adding the government would pursue a restructuring that would create smaller DISCOs with companies restricted to one state each.

“Distribution is our weakest point and it is the closest to the consumers. If we don’t get distribution right, to Nigerians, we’re not doing anything. So, efforts need to be put on this. In fact, we must intensify our efforts in ensuring that we address all issues relating to distribution,” the minister said.

“It is true that the distribution companies are in the hands of the private sector. We don’t have direct control. But we need to compel them for performance. They must perform. If they do not perform, all our effort in generation, in transmission is zero. I’ve also had a meeting with the Chairman of NERC on how we’re going to address these performance issues of the electricity distribution companies across the nation.

“Why we have new policies in our power sector policy framework, which we’re going to finalize to address long-term issues in distribution, we must proffer short-term solutions to the lingering crisis.

“Before we get to that, we’re talking about the issue of the capitalization of the discourse, for them to inject funds, to improve infrastructure.”

“We are talking about issues of restructuring the DISCOs along state lines, to make them manageable in size. Also, issuing new franchises to smaller DisCos to take over areas not being served by the existing ones or that have been underserved by the existing ones.

“I’ve said it before now that non performance of DISCOs in terms of epileptic power supply qualifies as a basis for revocation of license. Any DISCO that is found-wanting will be severely dealt with because their actions or inactions directly affect the performance of the sector”.

The Minister pointed out that willful refusal by any DisCos to take up available power “is a qualified basis for the revocation of licenses too”, adding that the distribution companies must be ready to pick up 90-99 percent of load allocated to them.

He described the ongoing electricity rationing across the country as unacceptable, disclosing the government plans to improve power generation from the present 4,000MW to 6,000MW in the next six months.

This, he said, would be achieved by paying off substantial debts owed to power generation companies and gas suppliers.

“So what we are looking at is to have an agreement to ramp up to a minimum of 6,000 megawatts within the next three to six months. I know that the highest we ever generated was 5,700, about three years ago. That was specifically November, 2021.

“And this 5,700 was also distributed. If we could achieve 5,700 at that time, I believe we still have infrastructure to generate between 6,000 and 6,500. In terms of the generating companies, I have no doubt in my mind that the existing capacity can give us 6,500 once there is stability in supply of gas.

“I’ve been to a number of the generating companies and I confirmed that they have this installed capacity. And a large percentage of this installed capacity is operational, but they are not available because of low or shortage in gas supply. Once there is gas supply, we want to ramp up generation to a minimum 6,000MW”.

He noted that while the Federal Government would continue to pay electricity subsidies in the short-term, it plans to gradually phase it out in the next three years and return the sector to a commercially driven tariff.

The deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has dragged Asue Ighodalo, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to court over the outcome of the recently concluded governorship primary election.

Also named in the lawsuit filed by Shaibu is the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Recall that the PDP had announced Ighodalo, who is the preferred candidate of Governor agodwin Obaseki, as winner of the election and governorship candidate of the party in the forthcoming election.

But Shaibu, who was also declared winner of a parallel governorship poll which took place at his residence, has since disagreed with Ighodalo’s victory.

Days after the primary election, Shaibu arrived the PDP national secretariat in Abuja to demand for his certificate of return.

Shaibu claimed that he is PDP’s authentic governorship candidate for the election.

Shaibu is seeking a court order to invalidate the election that took place at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, where Asue Ighodalo was declared the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate.

Meanwhile, the Edo State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against Shaibu.

Politics / Economic Hardship: We’re In A Season Of National Distress – Oyedepo Laments by Wisdomkosi(m): 8:49am On Mar 11
The Resident Pastor of Living Faith Church Worldwide, David Oyedepo Jr., has expressed concerns about Nigeria’s current state of distress.

Speaking during the church’s third service themed “Covenant Day of Fruitfulness,” Oyedepo called on Christian faithful to engage in covenant stewardship to navigate the challenges facing the nation.

Using a metaphorical illustration, Oyedepo compared an empty Ghana-must-go bag to an individual without covenant practice in Christ Jesus, emphasizing the need for substance and spiritual grounding to withstand life’s challenges.

He urged believers to take cover in covenant practices to resist adversities.

He said: “If you raised an empty Ghana-must-go bag in a windy environment, it would fly away, but if you have a heavy substance in it, no matter the hash wind, it would resist it.

“The same applies to an individual without convenant practice in Christ Jesus.”

Meanwhile, the Presiding Bishop of the Church, David Oyedepo, while urging Christians to reach out to the needy around them to mitigate the economic hardship, disclosed that the church has opened several Kingdom care outlets to reach out to the needy through its Winners Satellite Fellowship across Nigeria.

According to him, this is to mitigate Nigerians’ current economic hardship.

“It is not weakness to ask for help when you need it,” he said

Politics / Nigerian Government Owes N100 Billion In Electricity Bills – Distributors by Wisdomkosi(m): 7:23am On Mar 11
The Executive Director of the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors, Sunday Oduntan, has revealed that the Nigerian government is indebted to about N100 billion in outstanding electricity bills.

Oduntan emphasized the need for the government to create an enabling environment for energy distributors and fulfil its financial obligations.

In an interview with Arise TV, Oduntan disclosed that the debt owed by Ministries, Agencies, and Departments (MDAs) amounts to N100 billion.

He pointed out that the government’s timely payment of electricity bills could have prevented recent situations, such as the presidential villa’s outstanding bill to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

The executive director highlighted the recent payment made by President Bola Tinubu to clear the N342.3 million electricity bill owed by the presidential villa stressing the importance of government agencies, including ministries, in fulfilling their financial obligations to electricity distribution companies.

He called for an effective resolution to address outstanding debts and ensure a conducive business environment for energy distributors.

“You will be surprised to find some ministries that are owing Abuja Disco. The ministries, departments and agencies are owing in essence N100 billion. We’ve been saying this for a long time. They didn’t start owing from May 2023. So there is no politics or mischief here. We are talking facts and how we can solve problems,” he said.

Politics / Why Buhari did not Implement Orosanye Report - Ex-Minister, Adebayo Shittu by Wisdomkosi(m): 7:51am On Mar 09
Former Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, says that Steven Oronsaye’s report was not presented to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari during his administration.

Shittu was a minister during Buhari’s first term in office between 2015 and 2019.

According to him, the report was not brought to the attention of the Buhari administration, and as such, there was no need for implementation.

He said, “The report had been with the previous government (Jonathan’s) but they didn’t do anything. Nobody brought it to our (Buhari government’s) attention, at least not when I was there. So, the issue never came up for discussion at the Federal Executive Council meeting at all. If nobody brought it and there were no complaints, we didn’t have cause to look at it at all.”

There was controversy over the report since the Federal Government approved the implementation of some of its recommendations to reduce the cost of governance on February 26, about 12 years after it was submitted.

Twenty-nine government agencies are expected to be merged, even as eight parastatals will be subsumed into eight other agencies, even as some Nigerians fear that this may lead to job losses.

The National President, Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Tommy Etim, had warned that job losses amidst the current hardship in the country could lead to mass protests.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, described the report as outdated, advising the Federal Government to ensure that “the crisis of insecurity is not compounded through the retrenchment of hundreds of thousands of workers.”

Meanwhile, the Federal Government, on Thursday, inaugurated the implementation committee.

Speaking on the matter, Shittu said that civil servants should not be afraid of job losses, adding that only politicians would be affected as the number of appointees would reduce.

“We must avoid or do away with duplication of services because that would increase the cost of governance. When we talk about some people losing jobs, I think that national interest is more important than personal interest, and I don’t see any civil servant losing his job on that,” he stressed.

Also speaking on the matter, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Yusuf Ali, said implementing the Oronsaye’s report would reduce the excessively complicated administration of ministries, departments, and agencies of government.

Ali said, “One of the things you will find is that there is a lot of inter-agency rivalry. It happens almost everywhere, including in the US. If the report is implemented faithfully, at least we will be out of the problem of rivalry as well as overlapping functions and duties.

“It may not affect the personnel because it will become a larger body. And it will lead to having a leaner government that will be able to manage bureaucracy better. The fact that you are merging A and B does not mean you will dismiss people. It only means that you will have a larger number of people working in the same space.

“If you are talking about the loss of jobs, what will you say with the advent of artificial intelligence and robotics? Should we say people will lose their jobs and not invest in AI, robotics like drones, and others? Anything that will bring progress, we should try to adopt it.”

Politics / Wale Edun Appointed West African Monetary Zone Convergence Council Chairman by Wisdomkosi(m): 7:31am On Mar 09
Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, has been appointed as chairperson of the West African Monetary Zone (WAMZ) Convergence Council.

The WAMZ aims to create a single currency for countries in West Africa, similar to the Euro in European nations.

While Nigeria’s economy was projected to grow in 2023, Edun warned that this growth may not significantly improve living standards for most Nigerians.

He said: “The macroeconomic outlook for Nigeria in 2023 suggests that the country’s economic growth is not expected to significantly improve living standards or socio-economic indicators for a majority of the population.

“Despite overall growth, many people may not see significant benefits due to existing structural challenges or inequalities within the economy.

“Addressing these issues is crucial to ensure economic growth translates into tangible improvements in living standards and socio-economic conditions for a broader segment of the Nigerian population.”

Edun noted that the government’s goal is for economic growth to translate into real improvements in people’s lives of the people.

Nigeria, he told the West African gathering, acknowledges the challenges it faces but remains committed to leading the WAMZ Convergence Council.

He maintained that the country plans to achieve economic transformation through its National Development Plan and reforms in key sectors.

Edun noted that factors like rising oil prices and coordinated economic policies are expected to contribute to a more stable economic environment.

Nigeria’s leadership role at the WAMZ Convergence Council comes at a time when member countries are experiencing slow economic growth due to global factors.

Politics / Bago calls for social media regulation to check fake news by Wisdomkosi(m): 1:01pm On Mar 08
The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has called on the Federal Government to censor the contents of the social media platforms in Nigeria saying that they are being abused.

Bago said this will checkmate the spread of fake news in the country while promoting objective reportage by practitioners of conventional journalism.

He made this known on Thursday during his decoration as the Grand Patron of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Niger State Council.

The governor became the latest politician to call for regulated social media after President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, called for social media regulation.

The NUJ National President, Chris Isiguzo, who also presented the governor with a certificate, said the honour was in recognition of his exemplary leadership qualities.

Bago described the role of journalism as vital to the development of any society stressing that journalists have helped in shaping democracy in Nigeria through their reportage.

“As the fourth estate of the realm, journalists should carry out their duties as watchdogs of the society and ensure the objectivity in their reports.

“I call for the introduction of censorship on social media contents to checkmate the spread of fake news and hate speeches,”
he said.

The governor lauded the NUJ for finding him worthy of the award, noting that it has set a benchmark for him to do more. He affirmed that his administration will not rest on its oars in its quest to transform Niger State.

Isiguzo disclosed that the conferment on the Governor followed his transformative and developmental strides in the areas of infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture, good governance and education among others.

Politics / Pressure Mounts On EFCC To Probe Officials Of Buhari Administration by Wisdomkosi(m): 12:30pm On Mar 08
Pressure mounts on EFCC to probe officials of Buhari administration

Pressure is mounting on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe officials who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The calls for the anti-graft commission to take action have been getting louder by the day.

The recent call is from a famous human rights lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, who called for an extensive audit of financial transactions involving all officials who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The appeal comes in the wake of revelations emerging from the trial of ex-Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, who is embroiled in a $6.2 million fraud case related to the last presidential poll.

Olajengbesi commended the EFCC for exposing the alleged forgery of Buhari’s signature and that of ex-Secretary General of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, in connection with the fraud case.

The human rights lawyer emphasized the need to curb the audacity of those in power and address their criminal influence.

He urged the EFCC not to limit its investigations to Emefiele but to extend it to all principal actors who served under the Buhari administration.

Olajengbesi stressed the importance of establishing deterrents for such behaviour and called for a thorough audit to ensure transparency and accountability.

His words: “The EFCC must not stop at just the former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele but should carry out an entire audit of principal actors who served under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. There should be a deterrent for bad behaviour.

“Again, the case of the suspended Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Agency, Ahmad Salihijo, over alleged N1.2bn fraud is fresh and a pointer to the gross abuse of power by those who served under Buhari.

“Emefiele and all those who served under the Buhari administration should be properly audited and given a chance to clear their names as the corruption that manifested under that government is gargantuan.”

Politics / International Women's Day : APGA National Youth Leader Celebrates With Women by Wisdomkosi(m): 10:49am On Mar 08
International Women's Day : APGA National Youth Leader, Comr Onyebuchi Chukwu Celebrates With Women | #IgbereTV

The National Youth Leader of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, who also doubles as the Spokesperson of the National Youth Leaders Forum of Political Parties in Nigeria, NYLFPPN, Comr Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu (Delaw) has said that the importance of women in nation building can not be overemphasized.

In a statement made available to our correspondent in Abuja on Friday, signed by Shedrack Evans
Media Aid to the National Youth Leader, APGA, Comr Onyebuchi Chukwu said that if the women are the home makers and the homes are the micro component of the society, it means without doubt that the women are the society makers.

According to him, "Quoting B. R. Ambedkar, he said "I measure the progress of a community by the degree of progress which women have achieved." Women! Without doubt are very important to the growth, development and prosperity of any community and of the world entirely. They play significant and integral role in the society. They are the backbone of families and are crucial to growth and development of any country."

"Today, as we celebrate the International Women's Day, it is paramount to reflect on the importance of women in the society, we must acknowledge women's progress and achievements which are often overshadowed; ranging from pioneering scientists and groundbreaking entrepreneurs and trailblazing artists, women have made significant contributions to every section of our society. We must also take cognizance of the challenges and/or factors limiting women and suggest the solutions therein."

"The theme for this year's International Women's Day is "Invest In Women: Accelerate Progress". The McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) report mention that gender inequality is not only a pressing moral and social issue but also a critical economic challenge because, if women who account for half the world's working-age population do not achieve their full economic potential, the global economy will suffer critically. This proves that a woman who's empowered as a man in today's world can contribute immensely to the prosperity of their country and that of the world. The International Monetary Fund also attest to the fact that women's economic development boosts productivity, increase economic diversification and income equality in addition to other positive development outcomes. This is how important women are to any society."

"Despite the importance of women in society, women face numerous challenges that hinder their ability to contribute fully. Some of these challenges include: Laws and Policies, Gender Discriminations, Lack of access to Education, political deprivations."

"I therefore encourage the youthful women to join the youth wing of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA as the only gender friendly political party, let tutor and empower you for political exploits. In APGA we don't discriminate against women."

"Happy International Women's Day."

Politics / Power Outage disrupts Senate plenary by Wisdomkosi(m): 12:51pm On Mar 05
As Nigeria continues to grapple with the epileptic power supply, an outage on Tuesday disrupted the Senate Plenary session.

Meanwhile, the Senators have reportedly suspended plenary till the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) restored the electricity supply.

SaharaReporters reported that the power problem in Nigeria had been made worse with the removal of fuel subsidy which escalated the pump price of petroleum otherwise known as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and AGO known as gas to all time high in the history of the country.

SaharaReporters also reported that national grid collapse had become a regular feature in the country in the last nine months.

While the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and Electricity Distribution Companies had recently absorbed themselves of the epileptic power supply, it blamed the problem on generation.

Politics / Ex-governor Reveals Tinubu’s Govt Still Pays Fuel Subsidy by Wisdomkosi(m): 9:37am On Mar 05
Ex-governor reveals Tinubu’s govt still pays fuel subsidy, blames CBN for hardship

Former Bauchi State governor, Isa Yuguda, has said the Bola Tinubu-led federal government still pays subsidy on petroleum products.

Recall that President Tinubu had announced an end to the subsidy regime during his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023.

But speaking to ChannelsTV on Monday evening, Yuguda noted that recent revelation by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that the Tinubu government was still paying subsidy could not be further from the truth.

”If the IMF says we are paying subsidy then we are. But the subsidy that was removed was the one that was going into private pockets and I decoupled that subsidy that ordinarily shouldn’t have been paid,” Yuguda said.

”If it should have been paid it should be paid into the treasury of the country and today that revenue increase that we see is reflected in the removal of the monies that were going into the pockets of private individuals is what is going into the treasury of the country.

”You have that subsidy being paid on petrol products that are pumped through pipelines and in many instances they are pumped through imaginary pipelines, where the pipelines don’t exist, sow e all pay subsidy but that what was the President removed, that is why most states are getting twice or thrice of their allocation.”

On the economic hardship facing the country, the former governor said the average Nigerian will not understand the challenges the president has to face in resolving the economic situation.

Yuguda noted that the members of the president’s cabinet need to help in sensitising the masses on how the government policies will change the nation.

”I will expect the cabinet of Mr President to go down the strata of our society and explain to the people that this is the situation that we have found ourselves in,” Yuguda said.

”If we hadn’t had our Central Bank messing us up and the economy that has been mismanaged in the past, it wouldn’t be the way it is today"

Politics / Economic hardship caused by Buhari-led administration - Gov Mutfwang by Wisdomkosi(m): 8:33am On Mar 05
The Governor of Plateau state, Caleb Mutfwang, on Monday, lamented the economic hardship being faced by Nigerians and blamed the situation on the last administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking during the swearing-in of 22 Special Advisers and heads of other government agencies appointed by his administration which took place at the Rayfield Government House in Jos on Monday, the governor noted that President Bola Tinubu inherited the worst-performing economy of Nigeria from Buhari since the country started its democratic experiment in 1999.

The governor said “We are at a very difficult juncture in the history of this country and I’m an advocate that after the election you forget politics and face governance.

“And even though the Federal Government is being led by a party other than my own, I owe you the duty to tell Nigerians the truth that this government inherited a worse situation than 1999.

“This government inherited an economy where we simply printed money up to the tune of N30 trillion and shared. This government inherited an economy where the crude oil we’re yet to take out of the ground has been sold in advance.

“So when you’re talking about the fall of the naira, it’s not rocket time. We sold our future under the last administration. No wonder you’re hearing of riots today, people intercepting food on the way. We are lucky on the plateau that perhaps we have more food than many other states.

“And I pray that the time will not come on the Plateau that we will see this kind of riot for food, but it means we must roll over our sleeves and get to work. And that is why, for us as a government, when we announced one of the positions that talked about Food Security, people were laughing but it is a serious issue.”

The governor announced plans by his administration to set up a special agro-processing zone in Barkin Ladi LGA in partnership with the African Development Bank to the tune of 300m dollars

He called on the new appointees to brace up to the challenge to enable his administration to reverse the ugly situation for the good of the people.

Aliko Dangote burst into tears, names refinery road after late Herbert Wigwe

In a heart-wrenching tribute, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, struggled to hold back tears as he paid homage to the late CEO of Access Holdings Group, Dr. Herbert Wigwe.

Dangote, surrounded by a gathering of private sector professionals, described Wigwe as a visionary and perfectionist, expressing deep sorrow at losing his friend and mentee.

Dangote reminisced about Wigwe’s transformative impact on the banking sector, breaking records and reshaping the industry.

The emotional tribute highlighted Wigwe’s philanthropic endeavours, emphasising the lasting legacy he leaves behind.

Dangote, visibly moved, acknowledged Wigwe as a pillar of strength for himself and his businesses, going above and beyond in support.

The renowned businessman shared personal anecdotes, revealing that Wigwe played a crucial role in navigating challenges as Dangote’s organisation expanded.

Expressing gratitude, Dangote announced a poignant gesture to immortalise Herbert Wigwe by naming a significant road in his major refinery and petrochemical project after the late CEO.

He said that out of the total road network, the largest stretch will bear the name Herbert Wigwe, which will serve as a lasting tribute to his memory.

“To immortalise my beloved friend, my brother, and my mentee, I have actually decided to name our major refinery and petrochemical road.

“Out of the 120 kilometres, the biggest road will now be named Herbert Wigwe,” he said.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and ex-American President Bill Clinton joined numerous mourners in paying heartfelt tributes to Dr. Herbert Wigwe.

Wigwe tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash on February 9, along with his wife, Chizoba, and son, Chizi.

Politics / U.S. Supreme Court Rejects Bid To Remove Trump’s Name From Primary Ballot by Wisdomkosi(m): 5:25pm On Mar 04
In a significant victory for former President Donald Trump, the United States Supreme Court unanimously rejected Colorado’s effort to remove his name from the state’s Republican primary ballot.

The decision overturns a previous ruling by Colorado’s top court, which sought to exclude Trump from the ballot based on the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, citing his alleged involvement in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The 14th Amendment prohibits individuals from holding public office if they have engaged in an insurrection.

Critics of Trump accused him of inciting and supporting the Capitol attack in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

The Supreme Court’s ruling ends attempts in several states, including Colorado, Illinois, and Maine, to prevent Trump from appearing on the ballot.

Trump, a frontrunner in the Republican presidential nomination, is expected to face Democratic President Joe Biden in the November election.

The court’s decision emphasized that only Congress can enforce the 14th Amendment’s provisions against federal officeholders and candidates.

The ruling comes just ahead of Super Tuesday, a crucial U.S. presidential primary calendar day.

Education / We will shut down Universities nationwide in 7 days - SSANU, NASU by Wisdomkosi(m): 9:16am On Mar 04
Mohammed Ibrahim, the President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), has threatened that the union alongside the Non-academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions (NASU) will shut down the universities in the country if the government refuses to grant their demands in the next seven days.

He disclosed this while speaking as a guest on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics.

Ibrahim said a 7-day ultimatum which will start counting from Monday (today) had been issued to the Federal Government, threatening that the two bodies would embark on a total strike if nothing was done by the government at the end of the ultimatum.

He said there would be a total shutdown of the universities if members of the non-academic staff went on strike, saying: “We are in charge of security, we are in charge of administration, we are in charge of medicals, we are in charge of hostels, we are in charge of electricity, we are in charge of everything apart from teaching. So, once our members down tools, no university can function in Nigeria.”

“It’s quite unfortunate. No union member wants to go on strike but when you are pushed to the wall, what would you do? You have to push back.

“You can see what is happening in the country. The economy is in dundrums and everybody is suffering. Most of our universities are located far outside the township and our members have to commute every day. Fuel cannot be accessed, food is scarce, our medicals can not be attended to, and members are suffering quite clearly,”
he added.

Speaking about the union’s grievances, the SSANU President said, “It’s quite absurd that we have to speak like this and it is because we have been clearly shown that we do not matter in the system while we all know that there is no university that can function without the non-teaching staff.

“We are populated by professionals, we oil the engine in the administration of every university and therefore treating a segment of staff with disdain does not speak well of the system.

“In 2022, all the university-based unions were on strike – four of us. For us in NASU and SSANU, we went on strike on the 27th of March and we called it off on the 27th of August after the intervention of the then Minister of Education, Mal Adamu Adamu.

“We had an agreement that we signed with the government to review the situation and ensure that justice is done,”
he recalled.

Ibrahim said the last part of the agreement was that no one should suffer for taking part in the strike and salaries should not be withheld.

He said the government however stopped the salaries of all non-teaching staff in May and was only restored in September of the same year, adding that the current government decided to pay the withheld salaries of only ASUU members.

“Today, as I speak to you, our colleagues in ASUU have been able to get theirs and no one is saying anything about NASU and SSANU,” he lamented.

The union leader however said if the issue was addressed within the seven days ultimatum given to the federal government, there would be no need for any industrial action.

Re: The Dark Side of The Aba Power Project, Right of Reply, By Anyim Pius Anyim

I am delighted to join friends and well-wishers to congratulate Prof. Barth Nnaji for a successful commission of Geometrics Power Plant at Aba. It is my greatest joy to share this moment with prof. Nnaji despite the sting of a reckless Mud Slinger whose identity and relationship with the project is hidden, suggestive of a hireling at work for his pay. My attention has been drawn to a story titled “The dark side of Aba Power ProJet” by one Lolade Akinmurele in Business Day Newspaper of Tuesday 27th February, 2024. I am convinced that the hireling believes that the more he throws mud at everyone, from the vice President, the Secretary to Government of the federation, the Attorney General of the federation, the D-G BPE, the Chairman NERC, in-fact the entire Government, the more his pay.

I have had the privilege of reading the response by Dr. Sam Amadi and also had the honour of speaking with my brother, Professor Nnaji, who vehemently disclaimed the writer and undertook to release a formal statement in that regard.

In view of the above, my reply is essentially to state the facts for the records and to situate the meddlesome interloper properly. Accordingly, may I state just the following:

It is my pleasure to congratulate Prof. Barth Nnaji for this landmark achievement as Geometric power plant is commissioned. This is more so because as Prof. Nnaji was starting the Geometric power plant at Aba, I was also starting, in 2004, a multimillion-dollar ultra-modern soghum malting plant at Aba and General Ukpo of, blessed memory, was building the Meridian Hotel in Port-Harcourt. As of then, these three projects were the most outstanding private sector projects east of the Niger and occasionally, we shared experiences of our challenges. At that time, none of us was in government. To the glory of God, the three projects have all succeeded.

I think it is necessary to educate this hireling on how government works. Because if he is knowledgeable, he would have known the following:

1. That the privatization Programme was under the office of the Vice President, and privatization of the power sector was led by the Ministry of Power and until the last segment of the programme, Prof. Nnaji was the Minister of power.

2. That the office of the SGF had no role in the privatization Programme and, in particular, would not have had any need to interfere with the privatization of the DISCOS under the control of Professor Nnaji.

3. The hireling would have known that I had enough on my hands as SGF and by nature do not interfere with the work of anybody talkless of a parastatal that is not under my supervision.

4. It is important to note that NERC, which Sam Amadi led, was under the Ministry of Power, not the Presidency.
As a way of putting the record straight, let me adopt the following clauses from Dr. Sam Amadi’s reply:

“2. Prof Barth Nnaji was the Minister of Power from 2011 to 2013 when the process for privatization was completed. He was only removed just before the winners of the bid were announced Throughout the relevant period of the privatization, Professor Barth Nnaji was Minister of Power and had de facto control of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) that executed the privatization process. He chaired the Presidential Task Force on Power and was key figure in the National Council on Privatization that made key decisions about privatization. The Director General of BPE, Bola Onaguruwa worked closely with him and generally under his control as Minister of Power.”

“4. To the best of my knowledge, Prof. Bart Nnaji, as part of his business plan, intended to buy the Enugu Disco. There is nothing wrong about that. He is an entrepreneur whose entry into power sector was first as a private power producer in a deal to supply power to Abuja metropolis. Perhaps, based on the confidence that he would win the bid he neglected or forgot to separate the Aba Ring-Fenced area from the rest of Enugu Disco before he authorized the privatization of the entire Enugu Disco, including the Aba ring-fenced area. Later, when I confronted both DG BPE and Prof Bart Nnaji on why he failed to separate the Aba ‘ring- fenced’ area from Enugu Disco before authorizing privatization, they argued something to the effect that the Vice President opposed them. I have no proof of this fact.”

“5. Professor Barth Nnaji organized a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to bid for Enugu Disco, including the Aba ring-fenced area. He set up a special committee of BPE and Ministry of Power officials to evaluate the bids for the discos. After close of bid, his SPV, was adjudged the winner of the ENTIRE Enugu disco, including the Aba ring-fenced area.”

“7. After the evaluation and selection of Barth Nnaji’s firm as the preferred bidder, Chief Emeka Offor’s consortium petitioned on the ground of error. The Presidency empanelled a special committee chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Power. The Chairman of NERC, the DG of BPE and BPE consultants were members with a mandate to review the process. After reviewing the process, the committee agreed that Chief Emeka Offor’s consortium ought to win the bid after correcting the error. The NCP approved Chief Emeka Offor’s consortium as the winner of the bid and the preferred bidder.”

“8. After the declaration of Chief Emeka Offor’s consortium as the winner, Bola Onagoruwa, the DG of BPE, wrote to NERC to cut off Aba ring-fenced area from Enugu disco area and reevaluate it for Barth Nnaji to purchase. NERC rejected that request because it would violate regulatory due process. You can not conclude a sale of a territory, and after the buyer has fulfilled terms and conditions, you alter the sale. While he was the Minister of Power and supervised the privatization, Professor Bart Nnaji had opportunity to demand the performance of the contract he had with federal government to be given the right of first rejection to purchase the Aba ring-fenced area before privatization. He did not do so, since he had reasonable expectations that he would purchase the entire Enugu disco. But unfortunately, he lost to Emeka Offor.”

“14. It is important to note that throughout this period I never had any meeting with either Emeka Offor or Pius Anyim or any of Emeka’s Offor’s proxy in any form on the matter in dispute. There has been no moment in my multiple interactions with Anyim Pius Anyim as Secretary to Government of the Federation that he ever sought my opinion or offer any opinion to me about the dispute over Aba Power.

Chief Emeka Offor never met me privately in my office or anywhere to discuss the matter with me.”

Having put the records straight, I am to restate my conviction that the writer was certainly hired to Mud Sling and not finding what to splash on me, he wrote.
“Offor, who was blocking the project, had Pius Anyim, Secretary of Government of the federation, in his pocket, while Sam Amadi, the Chairman and CEO of NERC, was beholden to Anyim”.

This unfortunate writer may need to be reminded that I had several parastatals under my supervision as SGF. He should also know that NERC was not one of them and Dr. Sam Amadi had no reason to be ‘beholden’ to me or take instructions from me.

Nigerians Would Have Faced The Same Hardship Under Peter Obi Or Atiku - APGA National Youth Leader, Comr Onyebuchi Chukwu

By Wisdom Nwedene, Abuja

The National Youth Leader of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA and the spokesman of National youth Leaders Forum Of Political Parties In Nigeria, NYLFPPN, Comr Eze Onyebuchi Chukwu has said
the same hardship happening today in the first year of President Bola Tinubu's tenure would have happened if any other candidate had emerged President including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, irrespective of the hasty declaration of the end to fuel subsidy by Tinubu.

Comr Onyebuchi Chukwu stated that the country is sitting on a monumental corruption from the top to bottom.

In a statement made available to our correspondent on Saturday in Abuja, Comrade Eze further said that it's not always about the man in Aso Rock as it wasn't about Buhari alone before and still not about Tinubu alone presently.

He stated that the e good news is that Tinubu is gaining more confidence and political will daily to trample on toes for results

The statement reads ;

STATE OF THE NATION: ONCE THE WORST GETS TO THE PEAK, ITS ABOUT TO BE GOOD.

The worst seems to have gotten to the peak in this government of President Bola Armed Tinubu and that is a sign that it's about to be well with Nigeria. Politics apart, the same hardship happening today in the first year of Tinubu's tenure would have taken place if any other had emerged including Atiku and Obi, irrespective of the hasty declaration of the end to fuel subsidy by BAT.

It's a country sitting on a monumental corruption from the top to bottom. Where corruption weighs down her leaders not minding how strong, experienced, transparent and good intended they are. It's a country where organised cartels wait to sabotage any government coming on board for their personal gains. This is why it's only a man who is blind to faces, deaf to words, and dumb to actions that can fix Nigeria. Nigeria needs a man ready to die. It's a man ready to step on the toes of tigers and lions that can save this country from the hands of the hawks. These hawks are not from one region or religion. They're joined by corruption and it's proceeds. They sabotage any leader irrespective of region or religion.

Listen, it's not always about the man in Aso Rock, it wasn't about Buhari alone before and still not about Tinubu alone presently. The good news is that Tinubu is gaining more confidence and political will daily to trample on toes for results. Going by his policies, and the initiatives of his government, this worst that has reached it's peak will soon give way for good to start. Let me seize this opportunity to thank Mr President for Assembling experts including my governor, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra state to revitalise the economy. Going by Soludo's antecedents and achievements in that sector including his outstanding performance in central bank of Nigeria and Anambra in his two years in office, it's not in doubt that he in the company of the other committee members will restore hope in our economy. Dollar has started crashing because of one move against the pocket of certain people. Forest guards being recruited to target banditry and kidnapping, etc. It's about to be good.

This worst has lost its elasticity, it's diminishing return is inevitable, and the good is about to start. It's about to be good. Chill, vex no more, blame no more and support him to do the good that will be good to all Nigerians including you and I. His failure will do us no good, his success is better. Pray for him and don't forget that both your bible and quran encourages you to do so. Let me tell you, you can't love Nigeria more than you love the man driving her. Don't forget that I am with you in this anger against how the past presidential election panned out. I may be more angry but knowing that it's all about the growth of Nigeria, I have no option than to support Nigeria to grow irrespective of who is at the helm of affairs.

I AM COMR EZE ONYEBUCHI CHUKWU (DELAW).

Aiyedatiwa ‘blocks’ Ondo APC gov’ship aspirants from meeting Tinubu

Wale Akinterinwa, one of the frontline aspirants in the forthcoming APC primary election in Ondo, has accused Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of preventing him and other aspirants from welcoming President Bola Tinubu.m to the state.

Politics Nigeria earlier reported that Tinubu arrived Akure, the state capital on Wednesday, to condole with the government and people over the passing of former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

The tradition, according to Akinterinwa, is that party members will converge at the airport to welcome the president to the state.

The APC chieftain, however, alleged that Aiyedatiwa prevented them from seeing the president.

He described the directive from Governor Aiyedatiwa against their coming to the airport as undemocratic, disrespectful and unreasonable.

Describing Governor Aiyedatiwa as an “ignorant mind”, Akinterinwa alleged that the governor had planned to “unleash mayhem” on other aspirants and their supporters if they had gone to the airport.

But reacting to Akinterinwa’s claims, spokesperson to the governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, said President Tinubu was on a private visit to Ondo State and not for political campaigns.

Additionally, the price of 1kg of gas rose by 37% to N1,300 from N950 during the same period.

Politics / “Refrain From Cursing Our Leaders” – Chief Of Defence Staff Warns Nigerians by Wisdomkosi(m): 10:40am On Feb 28
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, called on Nigerians yesterday to desist from the habit of raining curses on the nation and its leaders.

Musa warned that Nigerians must realise the efficacy and power of the spoken word and its capacity to do damage.

He made the comment at a one-day seminar themed: “Civil-Military Relations: Non-kinetic Efforts of the Nigerian Military in Security Management, Challenges and Prospects,” organised by the Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) at the Army Resource Center in Abuja.

He said Nigerians must be optimistic about the nation for it to move forward.

His words: “There must be a nation before you can even discuss it, and that is very critical. Sometimes, I find it very hard to understand when I hear Nigerians speaking evil about their country.

“We all know as Africans that there’s power in the word. What you say means a lot. We must learn how to be positive about our country. That’s the only way we can be productive.

“We have seen countries, most countries, it’s not like they don’t have issues, but they don’t put their own problems in the forefront like we do, and that is what is affecting us as individuals.

“So, it’s important that we must take ownership of our country. We must wish our country well and our leaders well. When they err, let us call them to question and proffer solution.”

The defence chief further said: “It’s not just negative criticism. Every day, you are insulting; you are abusing. You are calling God to punish.

“No, you cannot kill your country because you feel it is just that you feel like that. You don’t grow a country with such attitude.

“There must be a nation before you can even discuss it, and that is very critical. Sometimes, I find it very hard to understand when I hear Nigerians speaking evil about their country.”

Politics / Sunday Igboho Urges Tinubu To Order Release Of Nnamdi Kanu by Wisdomkosi(m): 7:05pm On Feb 26
Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Igboho, urges Tinubu to order release of Nnamdi Kanu | #Politicsnigeria

Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has called on President Bola Tinubu to order the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Igboho urged the Tinubu-led Federal Government to drop the treasonable charges against Kanu.

In a video released on Monday, Igboho emphasized that releasing Kanu is crucial to attending to his failing health.

He stressed that Kanu, like himself, is an agitator fighting for the interests of his people in the Southeast.

" Please release Nnamdi Kanu, stop politics. This guy did not do anything. Today is February 26, 2024. Release him; let him go and stay with his family.

“This guy is just fighting for his people in the South East like me, and I am fighting for my people in Yorubaland. Release him, let him go. Release Kanu. Please release him,” Igboho appealed.
