Freethinker87:Lagos Boy! oya let me help you out, I have time to help one ill informed Lagosian. He revolutionize the IGR collection of Lagos State from 600 Million monthly to 2 Billion (2007). This system today generates 7 billion monthly now and its used in other states and at the Federal Level. (Economic Sector) On restructuring, he was the first Governor who led the Creation of 37 LCDAs out of 20 LGA after a successful Referendum in Lagos (Successful Management of 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs during his tenure) and they still stand till today. Back then Lagos was denied Federal Allocation but during his tenure Lagos State never owed staff salary to any staff at Local and State levels. Other states like Ebonyi copied the LCDA creation. Creation of LCDAs was his idea of bringing governance closer to the people and he succeeded in that big time. This where the RESTRUCTURING agitation started from. The total Federal allocation denied Lagos back then was released to the Raji Fashola administration by Late Yaradua when he became head of State after OBJ. (Environmental Protection Sector) Phase One of Lagos Bar Beach Reclamation project was completed before he left office. He already planned what to do next which was Eko Atlantic City which is standing tall today. That's the Next Mega City on the Ocean (E (Investment into Lagos) Lekki Free Trade Zone was conceived and started during his time, even Aliko Dangote confirmed that. the Port is almost completed, Dangote oil Refinery is located there. (Security) He up graded what Operation Sweep Security Outfit, that gave birth to RRS today and the funding for the outfit outside government financing. If you don't know RRS is funded by the private sector. He introduced Neighborhood Watch which is still working today..... the State Police agitation started with this idea. He created LATSMA for traffic management in Lagos. One Day Governor for school kids, its still happening yearly. This is to encourage children in public schools to aspire to and see governance from close quarters. He created LAWMA to tackle the huge refuse heaps in Lagos back then. He opened up the Lekki corridor for housing development The Expansion of Lekki expressway BAT was the first governor and still the only governor to conducted (LCDA creation) Referendum and Household Survey back then. To determine how to plan using population parameters approve by World Bank and other multinational agencies. Oya, please lecture me! |
ivolt:Don't be lazy, go online and do your research or better still go to Lagos State Secretariat and they will help you out. You can always get a dossier of individual governors achievements. I am not holding brief for any of them. Facts dont' lie Fashola countined from where Tinubu stopped, Ambode follow join and Sanwo-olu in on it. |
Freethinker87:More education for you .......! Governor Makinde banned agbero's from operating and not NURTW and other transport Unions (Have you been to Oyo state to see how this ban is working, the union guys are every where?). Lagos State has only one Iya Oloja. Be informed also that every market in the length and breath of Lagos and other parts of Nigeria have their respective Iya olojas and Baba olojas as may apply. Are you sure you were born in Lagos? Maybe you were born after he left office or you were too young to understand Lagos before and during Tinubu's administration. I can understand that. If you like, you can refuse to go online and search out his achievements as Governor, that's your own call. They are verifiable, nothing can be subtracted or added to it. Its already permanent, I can't change it, neither can you. (but I pray you don't fall victim of peddling facts that are contrary to what is already available online in the public domain). On taxes, every country have their own peculiarities on taxation and revenue generation. That's the way it has worked. If you have alternatives, please be free to share with us your own strategy. Its a case of "You can't eat your cake and have it" Lagos State can never be free for all, lest all hell will be let loose. Lagos is not free for all, can't be and will not be, even during pre-Colonial Lagos taxation was key to development. I want to call you "Brother Get Education", please help me out, since when did "agberos become tax agents for Lagos State Government? On whoose order? or by which law? I need answers to this..... From your comments, you don't even know how your taxes are deployed for development by government. This is unbelievable!!!. In this century and age a so called Lagosian (born and bred in Lagos), you don't even know how taxes are applied or what they are used for? I have my doubts, you exist in a vacuum oblivious of what goes on around you. Let me advice you, next time and before you come and make unverifiable comments, please all you need to do is carry out a simple search online and you will be surprised at the amount of facts out there. My assignment for you, if you want to do yourself a favour is to firstly go online or visit the (LIRS) Lagos Inland Revenue Service and (FIRS) Federal Inland Revenue Service to learn what the revenues generated from taxes are used for. Imagine! |
ivolt:You don't need anybody for that. All you need is go online and search out their individual achievements as Governors, it's in the Public domain. |
Freethinker87:The cases you refer to were all the issues that bedeviled Lagos before Tinubu came on-board as Governor in 1999. Tinubu's "Master Stroke" came when he gathered Notable Nigerian Professionals like the Late Professor Olikoye Ransome-kuti (Late Fela's elder brother) these calibre of people were given committees based on their professional background and each came up with a plan of action for Lagos based on sectors they had expertise on. It was based on these various committees' reports back in the days (from 1999 - 2007) that he appointed the likes of Yemi Oshibajo, Dele Alake, Wale Edun, Leke Pitan, Raji Fashola and others to implement these Blue Print. |
nony43:You are welcome!!! |
Freethinker87:This is not a case of using grammar.......... !!! You make me laugh. I hope you know nobody can chase the so called "Agberos" off the roads in Nigeria. Those guys have a union called NURTW an affiliate of NLC and years ago they obtained a SUPREME COURT judgement to let them operate on the roads (please go into history) that's why no government have been able to curtail them in any state of the federation. The Iya Olojas and Baba Olojas are not and have never been tax collection agents. It has never happened in any states in Nigeria. Also let us get this right, Tinubu's Administration conceived and started these projects and handed over to successors who continued. Go and check the facts. The Truth can not be hidden. In the case of taxing everybody. Proper taxation is governance in action. That is how its done in all the advanced countries (Europe, Asia and North America)! In these climes dem no born you well make you work and not pay taxes. I want you ask to any Nigerian you know out there, who is either legally or illegally staying abroad. These so called cart pushers, hawkers, petty traders, market men and women, small and medium scale business owners, artisans, hustlers, aboki, me-suya and many more want to identify with Lagos. They want to do business in Lagos without any hassles but don't want to contribute to its development. This attitude is not the way to go. Contribute your little quota through tax, that's why the State is working. All hands must be on deck. |
They should come to Nigeria, West Africa where we have them ......... everything God created is good ........ humans are fearfully and wonderfully made. |
Mokason288:TRACK RECORDS SPEAKS VOLUMES......!!!! One Governor created "Wealth" for his State, the other "Manages" what comes into the State. Two different scenarios. The issue is what has come out these two states after these two governors left office years ago? Lagos by the virtue of its ever increasing internal revenue profile ( by increasing the tax base and not increasing taxes) continues to be a state that continues to build and develop its infrastructure while Anambra is not. Increasing revenue gives the State leverage to take care of its Governors, Citizens, Workers and take foreign denominated loans to take care of infrastructure deficit in the State. Where is Anambra State in the league of developed states in Nigeria? What major or landmark project or visionary project did Obi leave in Anambra State that can sustain them for generations to come? How many industries were created? How many people were employed and currently sustained by the Obi legacy in Anambra State? Creating enabling environment is the Key. I am not saying Obi did not do well as Governor but what legacy can he point to than I reduced this amount, I travel economy class, I wear one shoe at a time, I wear one cloth, I carry my own bag, I don't travel with many escort? What level of grassroots politics did he put in place in Anambra State? If he was that good, why was he not able to sustain the momentum by bringing someone who could continue from where he stopped? He was chased out of APGA that gave him the platform to become Governor that is the fact. Governance is all about creating wealth for your people and sustaining that growth path, that is what makes the difference between the two Governors. |

Freethinker87:Stop the lies........... Bar Beach Erosion Project was conceived and the Phase One was completed when Tinubu was about to leave Office after his second term in office. It was commissioned during the campaign for Raji Fashola. Tinubu's Administration also conceived the Eko Atlantic City, Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lekki Port, the Blue and Red Light Rail, BRT (Bus Rapid Transport) bus lane and buses, Expanding the TAX net rather than increasing taxes to generate more IGR, LATSMA, Internet Facility within the Secretariat, Alausa-Ikeja, Lagos State Economic Blue Print and Master Plan, Private Waste Disposal under LAWMA, Decentralization of Local Government Administration by creating LCDAs (after conducting a Referendum for Local Government creation according to the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria) and many more. He was the only Governor who introduced Private Electricity through ENRON that was frustrated by President Obasanjo. This same electricity is now in place through IPP and Private Partnership in the Ikeja Secretariat and was completed by Raji Fashola. Most of these projects can not be completed at one go, they take time and require huge funding. A good administrator looks into the future and ensures sustainability to create more wealth for the people he governs. Fashola, Ambode and Sanwo-olu are those who added more value to what was already going on in Lagos. Please verify your facts. |
nony43:Are you serious at all? Where in Nigeria are they exporting vegetables to Europe and making $5 million haba! to correct you, Lagos Island and Victoria Island constiyute the Capital of Nigeria and not the entire Lagos. The remaining part of Lagos (Lagos Mainland, Surulere, Ojo, Ikeja, Mushin, Oshodi, Epe, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lekki and others) were part of the Old Western Region and later Lagos State. Correcting you still, most Lagos lands (wetlands) facing the Atlantic ocean or the lagoon are below water level and sand filling and proper drainage channels have made them habitable as it is done in other climes. |
