PoliticsRe: Crude Oil Hits $50 Per Barrel. Nigeria not Benefitting by wordychap: 12:34pm On May 26, 2016
LRNZH:
For the first time in 2016, Brent crude blend has hit the $50 mark in trading.
It is argued in certain quarters that the current surge in global oil prices is due to the reduced output from Nigeria. In which case, we have become a buffer for the rest of the oil producing nations at our own detriment.
Sure its partly due to a drop in crude supply from Nigeria that's made prices surge.
Its more like some oil producing countries r behind d militancy in Nigeria so price of oil would recover to their benefit.
PoliticsPDP, APGA Splinter Groups Move To Form New Nigeria Political Party by wordychap(op): 10:53am On May 26, 2016
Splinter groups from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, have proposed a new party to be called Peoples Mega Party.
The development follows a leadership crisis in Nigeria’s main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party.
The new political group, PMP, which held its maiden meeting in Abuja Tuesday, unanimously adopted Perry Opara as its interim chairman.
The group will soon approach the Independent National Electoral Commission for its registration, and will focus on youth in its membership drive, Mr. Opara said.
Mr. Opara is a top associate of Ahmed Gulak, a former political adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
Mr. Gulak, who is believed to be the key initiator of PMP, has recently been embroiled in a row with PDP leaders over his ambition to become the chairman of the party.
Mr. Gulak recently secured a court order mandating him or another PDP member from Nigeria’s north east to become the party’s national chairman, as a replacement for Uche Secondus.
While Mr. Secondus left office as the court ruled, Mr. Gulak was denied the position. A former Borno State governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, was later appointed the party’s chairman.

In his remarks at the proposed new party’s meeting, Mr. Opara said the leadership crisis within the PDP served as a factor for the formation of PMP.
“The major people who are in the party are former members of the PDP who are disenchanted by the high level of corruption, high level of impunity and high-handedness in the PDP,” he said.
”They have decided to form something very new and they are of the opinion that they should hand over the party to younger elements who are less corrupt and who can fight for the interest of the people.
“It does not mean that it is only people from the PDP, we have APGA chairmen from many states of Nigeria identifying with the new party, people from Labour Party, LP, and the Accord Party, AP.
“There are also disenchanted people from the APC that feel that they want a new place and that is what it is. Today marks the birth of this new party.”
He said the PMP had adopted the picture of a human being as its logo and “Forward Nigeria” as its slogan.

PoliticsRe: Reno Omokiri Blasts Buhari!! by wordychap: 7:26pm On May 25, 2016
Reno omokiri just nailed it
President Buhari and his administration should stop tarnishing the image of Nigeria in the mistaken belief that they are rubbishing the person of former President Jonathan.

The President should take in the big picture and realize that you need to be below somebody in order to pull him down. One year has come and gone and has seemingly been wasted pointing fingers in blame instead of at solutions. The time for blame games have gone.

Only last month, President Buhari complained that the Sahara desert was advancing southward. He should also realize that that is not the only thing going south. The Nigerian economy is going south at perhaps a faster rate and blaming others for it will never stem the tide.

The President should focus on marketing his plans and policies when he travels abroad instead of de marketing the plans and policies of former President Jonathan’s administration.

PoliticsRe: UAE Govt Releases List Of Nigerian Politicians Who Have Properties In Dubai by wordychap: 1:04pm On May 25, 2016
According to Sahara Reporters, some notable Nigerians who served under Goodluck Jonathan had several businesses and properties linked to them in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

See the list below
Governor Ayodele Fayose owns a house in Dubai

Senate Minority Leader and former Akwa-Ibom governor has a plush home in Dubai linked to him
Former First Lady, Patience Jonathan has three properties in Dubai as well as several businesses

Former Bauchi governor, Isa Yuguda has a property in Abu Dhabi where he is currently hiding.

Former ‘Chief Servant’ of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu has a property linked to him in Dubai.

Former Aviation minster, Femi Fani-Kayode has a property linked to him in Dubai.

Former Minister of Transport Idris Umar also owns a property in Dubai where he is currently hiding in Dubai.

Former Minister of Niger Delta, Godsday Orubebe also owns a property in Dubai.

Former Attorney General and minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke owns a house in Abu Dhabi.

Former minister of state for finance, Bashir Yuguda who is currently on trial has two houses linked to him in Abu Dhabi.

Former minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke has several businesses linked to her in the UAE.

Many Nigerians on social media are happy that the anti-corruption war of this administration is yielding results but many are also of the opinion that the war is one-sided and only focusing on the political opponents of the President and his allies.

PoliticsFuel Price Hike: NLC, FG Resume Talks Today by wordychap(op): 2:08am On May 25, 2016
The Nigeria Labour Congress led by Mr. Ayuba Wabba and the Federal Government will resume the suspended talks on the N145 fuel pump price on Wednesday (today).

The Director in charge of Press at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr. Samuel Olowookere, said in a statement on Tuesday that the meeting would hold by 2pm at the Conference Hall of Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

An invitation to the NLC to return to the negotiation table over the contentious increase in electricity tariff and the fuel pump price was delayed on Monday by the Ministry of Labour as a result of a scheduled meeting with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, which served a week-old strike notice on the government.

The NLC had called off the indefinite strike it called to protest fuel price hike on Sunday as a result of the intervention of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola TInubu.

While the strike was on, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, had said that the Federal Government would only resume the suspended talks with the Labour leaders if the strike was suspended.

Also, Olowookere said that the plan by PENGASSAN to embark on a nationwide strike by the midnight of Tuesday was suspended following the intervention of Ngige and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources,  Dr. Ibe Kachikwu.

He said Kachikwu briefed the conciliatory meeting on the issue of the Joint Venture Cash Call, the arrears of which had not been paid to the Joint Venture Partners which made the oil firms to issue a threat to lay off workers as a result of shortage of cash.

The minister was quoted as saying that the Petroleum Ministry was “restructuring the operational modalities of the Joint Venture Cash Call especially in view of the low oil prices.”

He was said to have assured the union, the JVCC partners and other stakeholders of some positive results during the next meeting scheduled for June.

“We all recall that this committee was headed by the late Hon. Min. of State for Labour and Employment, Mr. James  Ocholi, but in view of the importance and the urgency of the committee, I will assume its full leadership in June to accelerate and bring its assignment to fruitful completion, part of which is to pass some oil-labour regulations into laws for the Petroleum Industry Bill,” Kachikwu was quoted as saying.

Was there a time the crude oil prize was high? Yes it averaged $130 for over five years.
To be continued...
Crude price rises n falls but averaged 99 dollars between 2010 and 2014 (5yrs) check your data, this exagerations wouldn't help
http://www.statista.com/statistics/262858/change-in-opec-crude-oil-prices-since-1960/
By 2015 it had dropped to 49 dollars (averaging 90 dollars btw 2010 to 2015)
D Excess Crude Account was shared to d different state governments, hold your state governor accountable, mine made reasonable use of it in d state.

Which kian people be this one? Is Okonjo's denial not stated clearly in my original post?

What exactly is your point is what i am asking?

Why are u guys using the debt issue as a diversion from the real point of the thread.

You guys are very unbelievable. There are other salient points, yet you guys are capitalizing on just one.

Gosh!!!!
Let's look at d subsidy claim point; on y it rose to 2trillion
Even this govt. realises it can't fight corruption in subsidy payments, its best to remove it, GEJ in 2012 tried removing it but was resisted vehemently.
One thing d last govt. solved was d intermittent fuel scarcity that used to plague d country, but doing that came at a cost
At high crude price, u'll expect fuel price to rise cuncurrently n so did subsidy claims per litre of fuel.
Statistics gave daily consumption of 40 to 70 million litres/d, do d maths on subsidy claims for a year.

Why couldn't they save much?
I guess much money was spent on d Power project; building power plants etc n d North East was virtually at war; that was a problem inherited from the yaradua regime by d killing of Mohammed Yusuf, Nigeria never experienced such insurgency so it cost a lot in terms of logistics, equipments etc (d govt.; NE, was truly made ungovernable). By d time elections came, voting could take place even in villages in Maiduguri; so d battle had largely been won before handover. Also d foreign reserve was used to defend d naira through those periods n d ECA was shared to d different state governors; d last time I checked d case was even in d supreme court.

I'm not praising d past govt., but they did what they could considering d prevailing challenges at d time.
Now this government has come in, tell me things haven't gone bad? Nigeria is in recession already! The past govt. foresaw hard times n warned ahead of time, even making plans to combat it by introduction of IPPIS n TSA which would help reduce recurrent expenditure n block leakages. With d introduction of TSA n oil price of 48 dollars a barrel we shouldn't be in this state if d right economic policies r put in place but we r faced with a situation were there's galloping inflation, retrenchement of federal govt.staff, payment of half-salary to some staff, not to talk of states owing months of salary, power supply at an all time low.

We ought to hold d government responsible for what we're going through, there's not much burden on d government like it is in other countries where they provide light, water, gas etc to d citizens. This govt. met oil production at 2.2 m barrels/day n due to wrong policies caused it to crash to 1.4m b in this auster times. Where r we heading to? projections from analysts aren't encouraging n we expect them to sit up, get a good economic team in place n get things moving.
