My friend attempted to buy a piece of land at the location in 2017,we took a surveyor to the location and he took the coordinates of the land, he later told us the place is under FG's acquisition and we left the place because of this type future 'wahala'

EKITI AGRO-ALLIED INTERNATIONAL CARGO AIRPORT RECEIVES NCAA APPROVAL FOR COMMERCIAL FLIGHT OPERATIONS


The Federal Government has given Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport approval to commence scheduled flight operations, (otherwise known as commercial flights), effective October 4th

The development follows the expiration of the initial approval for a non-scheduled flight approval for the airport by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), in December 2024 and compliance with regulatory requirements.

The NCAA in the letter dated October 3, 2025 addressed to the Governor of the State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, confirmed the new approval for scheduled flight. The approval will be for an initial period of six months.

According to the letter with reference number : NCAA/DAAS/TECH//043/Vol. 1/158 and signed by the Director, Aerodrome and Airspace Standards, Engr Godwin Balang, the validation inspection was conducted on the airport between June 16th – 19th, 2025.

“The outcome revealed that the basic operational requirements for scheduled flight operations to Ado-Ekiti Airport have been significantly complied with and the instrument flight check validation report conducted by NAMA indicates satisfactory compliance with regulatory requirements.

“In view of the above and in line with the provisions of Nig CARs Part 12 Vol. 1, 2023, I have been directed to convey the Authority’s Interim Operational Permit subject to the limitations of VFR or daylight (sunrise to sunset) operations.

"Furthermore, Your Excellency is respectfully invited to note that this interim Operational Permit is to enable Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport implement outstanding gaps and commence the certification process which will allow for issuance of Aerodrome Operational Permit with Three years validity in accordance with the Nig.CARS Part 12 Vol.1”,

Meanwhile, Ekiti State Government is in the advanced stage of installing the Instrument Landing System (ILS) to position the airport for night and all weather operations.

Governor Oyebanji has hailed the development as a major boost to the economic development of the state, adding that the commencement of commercial operations at the airport would boost agribusiness, tourism development, commercial activities, and medical tourism, which will further position the state as a destination of choice for people looking for where to live, work, invest and relax.

The Governor thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the enabling environment for socioeconomic development at the national and subnational levels. He also thanked his immediate predecessor in office, Dr Kayode Fayemi, who laid the foundation of the airport project in 2019. He also thanked the founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola (SAN) for his remarkable contributions to the airport project as well as members of the Airport Committee.

New INEC Boss and Tinubu’s Visibilization of Northern Yorubas

Everyone who is familiar with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unabashed Yorubacentricism expected him to appoint a Yoruba person to succeed Professor Mahmood Yakubu as INEC chairman. However, because, as I pointed out in my September 20 column, no president, prime minister, or head of state has ever appointed an INEC chairman from his immediate geopolitical region, Tinubu’s Yorubacentric excesses had a restraining order.

Of course, Tinubu really doesn’t care what anybody thinks about his overt project of inaugurating and sustaining Yoruba hegemony in Nigeria’s national sphere. He could easily have appointed the next INEC chairman from the Southwest and watched with satisfied amusement as people from other regions squirmed in impotent rage.

But he had an alternative, which he seized. There are Yoruba people in northern Nigeria. Why risk needless, even if impotent, national outrage by appointing someone from Osun, his native state, or Lagos, his adopted state, when he could achieve the same Yorubacentric state capture by appointing a Yoruba person from the North? Thus, we have Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, a Yoruba man from Kogi State, as the new INEC boss.

To be fair, that was precisely what Tinubu’s predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, did. Although Mahmood Yakubu is from the Northeast and Buhari is from the Northwest, their identities are indistinct. They are both “Hausa-Fulani,” a term Buhari said he personally liked because it accurately captures the complexity of his ethnic, cultural, and linguistic identity.

Like Buhari, Yakubu traces patrilineal descent to the Fulani but is linguistically and culturally Hausa. So, the fact that they come from different so-called geopolitical zones doesn’t erase the reality that they are more or less indistinguishable in identity terms.

Just as Buhari and Yakubu are both “Hausa-Fulani” who happen to belong to different “geo-political zones,” Tinubu and Amupitan are both “Yoruba” (although there are people from Kogi West such as Professor Etannibi Alemika and journalist Tunde Asaju who insist they are not Yoruba) but from different regions.

In fact, unlike Buhari and Yakubu, who share not just common ethnic and regional identities but also similar faiths, Tinubu and Amupitan do not share the same faith. Tinubu is a Muslim, while Amupitan is a Christian. Of course, as I’ve pointed out multiple times in past columns, in the South, where Tinubu is from, ethnicity is a more potent instrument of identification than religion.

It’s therefore obvious that while Amupitan is eminently qualified for this job—he is an accomplished professor of law and a revered Senior Advocate of Nigeria who has no known record of partisan political affiliations, even though a few people mistook him for Professor Taiwo Osipitan, a Tinubu lawyer in the 2023 election—the primary reason Tinubu chose him is his Yoruba identity.

However, I want to go beyond the discernible ethnic considerations that informed Tinubu’s choice of Amupitan. No true northerner should take Tinubu’s ethnic bait.

Northern Nigeria (or what some of us like to call “Lugardian northern Nigeria”) is the country’s most complex region. It is home to almost every ethnic group in Nigeria, including the three major ones. (Most people don’t know that there is a minority of Igbo people in Ado, Oju, Obi, and Okpoku local government areas of Benue State who are native to the state and speak the same Igbo dialect as people in Ebonyi State.)

As I pointed out in my February 2, 2019, column titled “Even Ahmadu Bello Would Be Ashamed of Buhari’s Arewacentricity,” being a genuinely northern sub-nationalist draws you close to being a pan-Nigerian nationalist.

I wrote: “A real, Ahmadu Bello-type northerner… would regard Yoruba people from Kwara and Kogi states as his or her ‘regional kin.’ Well, if you can do that, you might as well extend that ‘kinship’ to other Yoruba people in the Southwest in the interest of nation building.

“If you accept Ebira people in Kogi as your regional kin, you might as well extend it to the Igara in Edo State whose language is mutually intelligible with Ebira. If you regard the Idoma of Benue as your regional kin, why not do the same to the Yala in Cross River who are linguistically and culturally similar to the Idoma?

“If you regard the Igala in Kogi as your regional kin, you might as well like the ethnic kin of the Igala known as the Ebu in Oshimili North LGA of Delta State or the Ilushi in Edo State, who are linguistically and culturally indistinguishable from the Igala.

“If your benign northern sub-nationalism causes you to accept Iyiorcha Ayu as your brother because he is Tiv from Benue, why would you not accept his own brothers and sisters in Obanliku in Cross River State who are also, for all practical purposes, linguistically and culturally Tivs?”

The Yoruba people in Kwara and Kogi states have had the disadvantage of being prominent yet invisible. They tend to be distrusted by their regional kith in the North and suspected by their ethnic kin in the Southwest. That is a delicate, unenviable position to be in.

Tinubu’s pan-Yoruba ethnic project is visibilizing northern Yoruba people on the national stage in ways we are not accustomed to. In April this year, he appointed Bashir Bayo Ojulari, a Yoruba Muslim from Kwara State, as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Limited, Nigeria’s ultimate cash cow.


Now, he has appointed Amupitan, a Yoruba Christian from Kogi State, as the head of INEC, Nigeria’s gatekeeper of political power. One controls the flow of money; the other controls the tide of electoral mandates. That is a lot of power. That is a lot of visibilization. It reverses decades of enforced invisibility.

This may be an ethnic project for Tinubu, but if managed well, it can become an unintentional empowerment of the North—or at least the idea of the North that Sir Ahmadu Bello carefully worked to nurture when he was alive. For him, no part of the North was more northern than another.

That was why he appointed Joseph Aderibigbe, a Yoruba Christian who hailed from Erin-Ile, the last town in northern Nigeria before one crosses over to the West, as the Provincial Secretary (equivalent to a state governor) of the Sokoto Province, which comprised what is now Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, and parts of Niger states. Bello was a councilor in Sokoto and used to joke that Aderibigbe was his “boss” in Sokoto but his subordinate in Kaduna.

When northern Nigeria’s Muslim, Hausaphone leaders mishandled Olusegun Obasanjo’s similar preference for previously invisibilized northern ethnic minorities in appointments and caused deep regional disaffection, they were compelled to form the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) in 2000 to unite the region and assuage the anxieties of minorities.

Guess who was its inaugural chairman of the board of trustees until his death in 2007? Chief Sunday Bolorunduro Awoniyi, who hailed from the same area as Amupitan.

The mistake the North would make, which would please Tinubu to no end, is to alienate these northern Yoruba appointees by calling them Yoruba while tacitly denying their northern identity.

As Colonel Abubakar Dangiwa Umar suggested in a July 1999 interview in the Weekly Trust when northern Muslim leaders had a conniption because northern Christians were visibilized by Obasanjo, I would advise northern leaders with symbolic and cultural authority to be strategic and embrace Tinubu’s appointment of northern Yorubas to consequential positions as a plus for the region, even if that is not his intention.

The alternative is to be receptive to a redrawing of the political and geographic map of Nigeria that cedes Yoruba-speaking Northern Nigeria to the West.

Perhaps what began as a parochial design might paradoxically fertilize a broader national idea. If the North embraces these appointees as its own rather than as southern implants, Tinubu’s maneuver could, ironically, advance the inclusive regional vision that Sir Ahmadu Bello once imagined. Nigeria’s fate has often turned on such unintended consequences of power.

But if northern leaders fall for the ethnic traps laid in these appointments by rejecting their own sons because of linguistic or cultural labels, they will not only vindicate Tinubu’s divisive calculations but also weaken the North’s moral claim to unity. The region’s future strength will rest on its ability to see through the politics of symbolic baiting and recognize substance where others see difference.

As an anesthetist. He had a poultry large poultry farm and did crop farming as side business. This is a poultry farm that had close to 10,000 birds and was doing well and he was comfortable. His wife also worked as a staff of one of the highest paying companies-Cocoabod.

Dude woke up one day and said he was leaving all these behind, including his wife and 2 kids to travel to America to go "hustle."

He told me he worked in Winter and his fingers froze from the cold.


Scenario 2 is another friend that recently traveled sometime in the middle of last year. This one also had a good job, an 11 acres peice of land where he did pig farming as side business (he even gave me about 3 acres from the part he wasn't using on which I planted maize and okra last 2 years) he had property a wife and recently had a kid.


This one called me just early this year telling me he was now in America looking for a job.

He told me he recently got a job, he didn't disclose the type of job. But I suspect it's one of those unskilled jobs. He was telling me recently when we chatted how he had to work and was paying the person whose paper he was using to work.

He said something like he was saving money for now to get his own papers and couldn't even afford to get a decent bedsheet for now. He didn't want to open up on many things but I could sense his struggles.


My question is why would someone be doing fairly or averagely okay in their own country and decide to travel to another country not to go work as skilled or start a business but to go do demeaning unskilled labor work.

Why would I leave my country where I live almost as a king to go live in a rat race.


I can never understand that.

Another person was confiding in me recently that he wanted to travel to the US. This is someone that has a small factory, into iron rod sales and construction business. I just looked at him and told him not to do it. He should focus on growing his business and I used the other 2 people I mentioned earlier as examples.

If I want to travel to the US or any other country it's to go flex, explore, or look for bigger business opportunities and not to go hustle and start from the scratch.

Abiodun Makes History, Inaugurates First Commercial Flight at Gateway International Airport



Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday, inaugurated the first commercial flight of the Gateway International Airport, Ilishan Remo.


The aircraft owned by Valuejet, with registration number 5N-BXS and 90 passengers on board, departed the airport at 10:10 a.m. to Abuja.


Speaking at the airport located along the Iperu-Ilisan road in the Ikenne Local Government Area of the State, the governor said the journey to actualize the airport started in 2021 and was part of the vision to provide a well-modeled transport system for the State.


He said: "I am glad to be here today to actually witness the inaugural flight of a commercial aircraft taking off from Ogun State; this is not like AI, this is real. Commercial operations are starting from Ogun State in the lifetime of an administration.


"We came here in 2021; some people said it was just a photo op, they said it was just politics, they mocked us, and they said this place is nothing but a dump site. Some even said that we were going to use this place as a cattle ranch.



"Some others had this airport built on a PowerPoint, but again, we are here today, and we have seen what can be achieved when there is vision, when there is collective vision, inclusive vision, inclusive participation, and when there is passion and diligence.


"We began to construct in late 2021; in February 2023, this same Valuejet was the first plane to land on this runway; it was a test flight of our runway. Building an airport is one thing; having an airport become operational is a totally different thing because it is a very highly regulated industry."


He emphasized that his administration was determined to have the best-constructed, equipped, and befitting airport for the state, noting that apart from being the industrial capital of the nation, the State is blessed with a population, making it the fastest-growing economy in Nigeria today.



The administration's vision, Governor Abiodun maintained, is supported by several business cases, adding that the airport is situated in an Aerotropolis, with many companies springing up, just as the biggest textile plant in the world and the Nigeria Customs Village are sited around the airport.

"It speaks for itself; more people are coming to live, work, and play in Ogun State, so this airport makes sense; it ticks the box of our multimodal transport master plan where we connect roads to rail to air, and soon, we will be connected to the sea," Abiodun added.



He appreciated regulators in the aviation sector, especially the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Minister of Aviation, Mr. Festus Keyamo, for providing quality supervision for the airport.

Speaking in an interview, the Speaker of the State's House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, noted that the airport is in tandem with the dreams of the State's founding fathers and would serve as a window to the outside world.



"I give it to the governor. This place was a refuse dump, but now it is the site of a world-class airport. I feel happy; I feel on top of the world. There will be economic gains, and there will be comfort, as it will reduce the hassle of going to Lagos to travel by air," the Speaker said.



On his part, the member representing Imeko-Afon-Yewa North at the House of Representatives, Hon. Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka, expressed delight that the airport has finally come to stay, enjoining industrialists to take advantage and leverage their businesses while soliciting people's support for the project.


The Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Chris Ona-Najomo, commended the state government for keeping faith with all regulatory dictates of the regulatory agencies, just as he expressed satisfaction with the project.



He expressed his willingness to give further support to the airport where necessary, especially for the takeoff of international flights in the nearest future.



The Managing Director of the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Farouk Umar, and other officials from the aviation sector were at the ceremony.

Gateway Airport: Value Jet begins lifting passengers October 7


Excitement is in the air as Value Jet airlines is scheduled to begin two flights per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Gateway International Airport (GWI), Ogun State, beginning from Thursday, October 7


This follows the green light given to the state-of-the-art airport by regulatory agencies.


According to the flight schedule, every Tuesday and Thursday, the airline will operate the GWI-Abuja route, departing GWI at 8.30 am and arriving Abuja at 9.45


In the return flight, Value Jet will depart the Nnamdi Azikiwe International, Abuja at 4pm and arrive GWI at 5: 15 p.m


A statement released by the airline indicates that tickets will be available as from Thursday, September 25; online, through travel agents and at ticket desks at the Gateway International Airport.


With the announcement, many travellers based in Ibadan, across State Ogun, and in Abuja and Lagos will have connectivity by air to Abuja and and Lagos and beyond via Ogun State whilst enjoying the added benefit of unbeatable facilities at GWI.


Members of the business and industrial sectors, contractors, bankers, government officials and leisure travelers, among others, are said to be particularly eager to take off and arrive at GWI, from where they have indicated they can easily connect Lagos and other parts of the country.

...As NAMA Satisfactorily Calibrates ILS/DME System on Runway 23

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued Nigeria’s first-ever Aerodrome Operational Permit (AOP) to the Gateway International Airport, Ilisan-Iperu, Ogun State. This historic approval makes the facility the first airport in the country to attain this certification under the NCAA’s enhanced regulatory framework. The NCAA conducted audits, inspection of the airport, the equipment , NAVIDS, fire fighting apparatus, operationally readiness of the staffing response time to incidents and response time and airport facilities. Based on the assessment, the airport met all the standards.

In addition, the Instrument Landing System/Distance Measuring Equipment (ILS/DME) installed on Runway 23 of the Gateway International Airport has been declared “totally satisfactory in all respects” and cleared for unrestricted use after a successful flight inspection conducted by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) on September 4, 2025. This will allow for 24-hour operation in all types of weather.

Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, described the milestone as a validation of his administration’s vision to make Ogun State a hub for commerce, investment, and global connectivity.
“This achievement is not just for Ogun State but for Nigeria as a whole. The Gateway International Airport is a symbol of progress and a new benchmark for aviation infrastructure,” he said.

The certifications position the Gateway International Airport as a game-changer in Nigeria’s aviation sector, promising safer and more reliable operations, direct international market access for farmers, job opportunities for youths, and reduced congestion at Lagos airports.

With these approvals, Ogun State has firmly established itself as a leader in aviation development, setting new standards for infrastructure, safety, and global competitiveness.

Ogun State has recorded yet another landmark achievement under the vl leadership Prince Dapo Abiodun, with the Federal Government’s approval for the establishment of the Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port along the Epe/Mojoda Expressway, Ijebu-Ode.

This Fresh milestone in the quest of the Governor to deliver several national projects as enduring legacies of his administration has been widely celebrated in the state and beyond.

The project, to be sited on 130 hectares of land graciously allocated by the Ogun State Government, follows a request by the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency, Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, to Governor Abiodun. The allocation, granted on an ex-gratis basis, reflects the Governor’s unwavering commitment to supporting national infrastructure and creating enabling environments for trade and investment.

When completed, the Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port will:

Decongest the Lagos Port System;

Serve as a cargo consolidation and distribution hub for the South-West region;

Enhance Ogun State’s competitiveness in trade and logistics;

Increase national Gross Domestic Product (GDP);

Strengthen the Ogun State Industrial Hub initiative;

Create jobs and unlock new economic opportunities;

Add aesthetic and infrastructural value to Ijebu-Ode and its environs.


This milestone comes on the heels of another major infrastructural success — the Gateway International Airport recently received its official certification from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), positioning Ogun State firmly on Nigeria’s aviation map and boosting its appeal as a destination for global trade, investment, and tourism.

Speaking on the approval, Governor Abiodun affirmed:
“The Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port and the Gateway International Airport are critical enablers of industrialization and regional competitiveness.
