TravelRe: Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road: Contractor Begins Mobilization In Ondo by XAUBulls: 9:47pm On Oct 02, 2025
adicius:
Let him educate you, it's called a coastal road because it passes through all the states that has coastlines in Nigeria. Driving along it for most parts, you won't see the coastline. For Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and some parts of Ondo states, shoreline is littered with rivets, deltas, impassable mangrove swamps and marshes where it will be pointless building a road through.

So most of the road will pass through dry land away from the shoreline. That's it. If you don't like the development, don't use it when they finish it. Simple.
Succinctly stated.

1400 is likely.

I mean it's just N55 more, and the trajectory looks good.

I even hear people who held USD for hedging are beginning to exit their positions
as those hedges are turning out to be redundant.

The direction it's headed, it should go below 1400 this month.

Then we'll be seeing PMS below 800, and GDP will then climb above $300bn instead of the embarrassing $250bn.
Insightful.

GeneralDae:
Customs were mainly influenced by NASS who increased their target and they have been insisting on this new fees for a while saying the cost of their operations have increased and many things have to be maintained. I cannot say I am certain Tinubu didn’t see it, but I look out for his reaction more. If Tinubu wanted it, complaints and mummuring alone would not make him reverse it. You may be right that it came to his desk and was approved initially by him. I cannot prove or disprove that.

As for the crude oil and Dangote matter, there was a lot of propaganda involved in it. NNPC didn’t sell crude as agreed because crude production had dropped drastically as at 2023/2024 and they couldn’t fulfill their side of the bargain. Between 2020 and 2022, lots of forward sales were also done. NNPC disappointed Dangote due to these reasons coupled with the fact that the refinery was at the pre commissioning stage and it was a time Dangote needed easy/quick crude for testing but it was also a time where our production was low and we had forex shortages and lots of forward sales. NNPC couldn’t just give Dangote all he needed for pre commissioning at that time (making little profits) and hence they scaled back ownership from 20% to 7.2%.

From the view of Dangote, this was disappointing and rightly so because he then had to spend to import crude at that stage.
When Dangote was complaining, these were the things he was complaining about in the case of NNPC.
Then when he spoke about Malta, opposition twisted it to point at Tinubu with no evidence but the fight was against big oil importers. Also, it would have been foolish for Tinubu to clearly take sides then by banning imports at that early stage.

When NMPDRA spoke saying they couldn’t determine the Dangote fuel quality or it not yet been ready, you cannot automatically say that was Tinubu speaking. Yes, Tinubu would not ban imports but to believe he told NMPDRA boss to give that speech as the excuse would be far too simplistic.

Summary: Was Tinubu against import ban? Yes. Does that mean Dangote was attacking Tinubu for that? No. He was attacking the marketers like DAPPMANN whom he calls the cabal. Tinubu doesn’t need to ban imports for him to take over the market but where the cabals try to restrict him from doing that, is where he fights (note the difference). Is Tinubu or Oando allowing imports because of Malta blending plant? No. Because no evidence links Malta imports to Oando or Tinubu but rather to another businessman who gave Buhari $1.5 Billion in 2020 in one of those forward sales.
So me I’m all for facts and the evidence and as investors, I’m sure this is the opportunity to learn. If I’m wrong on any of these points, I would gladly take it back.
Succinct.

Top 5 Ways to Invest Money During High Inflation in Nigeria
In times of high inflation, preserving and growing your wealth becomes crucial. As prices rise, the value of money can erode quickly, making it essential to choose investments that not only keep pace with inflation but also generate real returns. Here are the top 5 ways to invest your money during periods of high inflation in Nigeria:

1. Real Estate Investments
Investing in real estate is one of the most effective ways to hedge against inflation. Property values tend to rise with inflation, providing both capital appreciation and rental income. Whether it’s purchasing land, residential, or commercial property, real estate offers long-term value protection.

2. Precious Metals (Gold and Silver)
Gold and silver have traditionally been safe havens during inflationary periods. These precious metals tend to retain their value when currencies lose purchasing power. Investing in physical gold, silver, or ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) that track these metals can help diversify your investment portfolio and protect against inflation.

3. Stocks and Dividend-Paying Equities
Investing in stocks, particularly those of companies with strong fundamentals, can offer protection against inflation. Companies with pricing power can pass on higher costs to consumers, maintaining profitability. Additionally, dividend-paying stocks provide a steady income stream that can help offset inflation.

An updated Homeland Security Department review of potential privacy issues dated July 2019 that was posted online on Friday essentially reversed a prior ban on officers creating fake profiles.

A USCIS statement explaining the change says fake accounts and identities will make it easier for investigators to search for potential evidence of fraud or security concerns as they decide whether to allow someone entry into the U.S.

PoliticsRe: Demagogues: Nnamdi Kanu, Simon Ekpa, And Odumegwu Ojukwu by XAUBulls: 12:37pm On Oct 02, 2025
UncleAyo:
In short: A demagogue thrives on emotional manipulation, division, and spectacle rather than reason, unity, and truth.

A demagogue is typically described as a political leader (or influencer) who gains power and popularity by appealing to people’s emotions, fears, prejudices, and desires rather than by using rational argument, truth, or sound policy. Historically, philosophers like Aristotle, and later political scientists, have outlined their traits. Here are the main attributes of a demagogue:

Core Attributes of a Demagogue

1. Appeals to Emotions over Reason
- Uses fear, anger, pride, or resentment to persuade rather than logical arguments.
- Exploits people’s hopes and anxieties.
2. Charismatic and Persuasive
- Often has strong oratory skills.
- Uses rhetorical devices, repetition, slogans, and dramatic language to stir crowds.
3. Populist Posturing
- Claims to be the “voice of the common people.”
- Portrays themselves as fighting against the “elites” or establishment.
4. Us-vs-Them Mentality
- Divides society into “the people” (good, pure, oppressed) versus “the enemy” (corrupt elites, foreigners, minorities, etc.).
- Creates scapegoats to rally people around a common adversary.
5. Exploits Prejudices
- Appeals to nationalism, racism, class resentment, or religious bigotry.
- Reinforces stereotypes to manipulate crowds.
6. False Promises & Simplistic Solutions
- Offers easy, one-line solutions to complex problems.
- Rarely provides workable policy details.
- Uses exaggeration and falsehoods.
7. Attacks Institutions & Norms
- Discredits the press, judiciary, or democratic checks when they oppose him/her.
- Paints institutions as corrupt or enemies of the people.
8. Cult of Personality
- Presents themselves as the only one who can “save” the nation or group.
- Encourages loyalty to the leader over loyalty to principles or laws.
9. Manipulates Communication
- Uses mass rallies, media, propaganda, or now social media to bypass critical discussion.
- Repeats claims until they are believed (“illusory truth effect”).
10. Authoritarian Tendencies
- Centralizes power in themselves.
- Shows disregard for democratic processes, often flirting with dictatorship.

Psychological & Social Tactics
1. Fearmongering: Warns of dire threats if not followed.
2. Victimhood Narrative: Claims that “the people” are oppressed and only he/she understands their suffering.
3. Aggressive Rhetoric: Uses insults, mockery, and ridicule against opponents.
4. Emotional Identification: Presents themselves as “one of you” while enjoying privileges of power.
5. Repetition & Symbolism: Heavy use of slogans, chants, and symbols to cement loyalty.

Here are succinct ways to identify a demagogue
Emotional Manipulation – Appeals to fear, anger, pride, or resentment more than facts or reason.
Us-vs-Them Rhetoric – Divides people into “the pure people” vs. “corrupt enemies.”
Scapegoating – Blames a group, minority, or outsider for society’s problems.
Populist Claims – Portrays self as the only true voice of the people against elites.
False Promises – Offers oversimplified solutions to complex issues.
Charismatic Oratory – Uses fiery speeches, slogans, and repetition to stir crowds.
Cult of Personality – Demands loyalty to the leader rather than principles or institutions.
Anti-Institutional Attacks – Discredits press, courts, or government checks as enemies.
Fearmongering – Warns of catastrophic outcomes if not followed.
Authoritarian Streak – Intolerant of dissent; paints critics as traitors or enemies.

🔎 Demagogue Detection Checklist
1. Do they rely more on stirring emotions than presenting facts or reasoned arguments?
2. Do they divide people into “us” (good, pure) vs. “them” (evil, corrupt)?
3. Do they single out a group or enemy to blame for society’s problems?
4. Do they claim to be the only true voice or savior of the people?
5. Do they make sweeping promises or overly simple solutions to complex issues?
6. Do they speak in fiery slogans, chants, or repeated catchphrases?
7. Do they demand personal loyalty rather than loyalty to principles, laws, or institutions?
.8 Do they attack or discredit institutions like the media, judiciary, or opposition?
9. Do they use fear or threats (“If you don’t follow me, disaster will strike”)?
10. Do they show intolerance for criticism or label dissenters as traitors?

Businessman Isaac Fayose has dismissed the assertion that Nigeria belongs to the Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo, insisting that the Igbo should not be included in such claims, which he described as false.
What's this guy called Isaac talking about? He's always making goofy comments when he should be more serious with his convos.

How many ethnic groups in Nigeria outside the traditional Hausa, Yoruba, Ibo he is ranting about in the video have been Presidents and Vice-presidents of Nigeria since 1960?

Besides, NO single member of the majority Hausa has EVER been a President or Vice-president of Nigeria since 1960. It's the minority Fulas who have surreptitiously taken over power and the Hausas are now resisting this domination by a foreign minority. The the Angas, Kanuris, Fulas, Ijaw, etc, have occupied the roles of President or VP, aside from the Yorubas and Ibos. The other over 300 Nigerian ethnic groups haven't occupied that position since 1960.

So, Isaac should STFU with that unintelligent and unhistorical rant of his.

TravelRe: Only Four Airports Are Economically Sustainable In Nigeria – Dr. Muda Yusuf by XAUBulls: 5:06am On Aug 22, 2025
EcoBrick:
The former Director-General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Dr. Muda Yusuf has said out of the 32 airports in the country, only four of them are economically sustainable.

These airports include Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos (which generates about 50% of the entire revenue), Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), and Port-Harcourt International Airport.

He made these remarks during the second annual National Transport Technology Conference and Exhibition, which had the theme, ‘The Viability of State-Owned Airports: Issues, Challenges and the Way Forward,’ and was held virtually on Tuesday.

Yusuf pointed out that many state-owned airports heavily rely on subsidies from their respective state governments merely to maintain the appearance of functionality.

State-owned airports are unviable

Also speaking, the Director-General of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Musa Nuhu, emphasized that many state-owned airports are unviable and were built without considering the air traffic in the state.

He also highlighted that the increasing construction of airports by state governors places a growing regulatory burden on the agency.

Nuhu identified several challenges stemming from this situation, including financial stress on various agencies within the aviation sector, such as the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and other related organizations.

Nuhu articulated thus,

“We have been stretched beyond our capacity. How does an airport generate revenue when it operates only once a week?”

“Most of the airports are unviable; built without traffic in mind and leaving the burden to the Federal Government to shoulder. Airports should be a catalyst for economic development. It has to be well thought through. It becomes a problem when an airport will not generate economic returns.”

Contributing to the discussion, the President of the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA), Susan Akporiaye attributed the lack of thriving state-owned airports to inadequate funding.

She stressed that no business can thrive when an airport operates only one or two flights daily.

State government airports conduit pipe for embezzlement

Wole Shadare, an aviation journalist and participant in the webinar, alleged that many state government-led airport projects serve as conduits for embezzlement of public funds.

He expressed frustration that numerous state governors continue to build non-viable airports in their regions, subsequently transferring them to FAAN, which places additional pressure on the revenues generated by the only four viable airports.

Share estimated that not less than N374 billion had been expended on such projects by the states, which observers consider as mechanisms for misappropriating public funds rather than promoting economic interests.

TravelRe: FG To Connect Baro Inland Port To Lagos-kano Rail Network by XAUBulls: 1:07am On Aug 17, 2025
dododawa1:
In a strategic move to revitalize the Baro Inland Port and enhance the seamless movement of goods across Nigeria, the Federal Government has announced plans to connect the port to the Lagos-Kano Narrow Gauge rail network.

The initiative forms part of the administration of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s broader transport infrastructure agenda.

Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, Minister of Transportation, disclosed this during an interactive session with the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on the Rehabilitation and Operationalization of the Baro Inland Port in Abuja.

The Committee is tasked with engaging stakeholders and designing solutions to restore the port’s operational viability.

While the management and planning of Baro Inland Port now fall under the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, with supervision by the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority, Senator Alkali highlighted the critical role of the Ministry of Transportation in ensuring the successful rehabilitation of the 190-kilometre rail line from Minna to Baro.

“This rail line will be connected to the historic Lagos-Kano Narrow Gauge, which has also been rehabilitated for freight under this administration. Operations are currently paused due to the recent Mokwa flood, but with proper funding, full functionality can be restored,” the Minister explained, appealing to the National Assembly to appropriate funds to complete the project.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Saidu Musa Abdullahi, stressed the importance of translating plans into action, highlighting three major barriers to Baro Port’s full operation: dredging the capital channel to ensure navigability, completing rail connectivity between Baro and Minna, and developing access roads for cargo movement.

Hon. Abdullahi also urged the exploration of innovative financing mechanisms, including public-private partnerships and development finance institutions, noting that government budgets alone would be insufficient to restore the port to its historical role as a key economic artery in Nigeria’s logistics network.

George Soros is no stranger to Blaze readers. The billionaire currency speculator and philanthropist has long been in the news, especially since the fateful day in 1992 when he helped crash England’s economy. In fact, since that day, he has been commonly referred to as “the man who broke the bank of England.”

Soros is shrewd, he has a keen eye for investments, and he knows how to play the markets. Therefore, when he makes a prediction, it might be safe to say it’s worth a listen. After all, his predictions (among other things) have made him the multi-billionaire he is today.

So you might want to pay attention to a recent story from The Daily Beast that claims George Soros is nervous about the future of the global economy and that he warns of dark things to come.

“At times like these, survival is the most important thing,” Soros said.

As he sees it, the world faces one of the most dangerous periods of modern history—a period of “evil,” writes the Beasts’ John Arlidge. “Europe is confronting a descent into chaos and conflict. In America [Soros] predicts riots in the streets that will lead to a brutal clampdown that will dramatically curtail civil liberties [emphases added]. The global economic system could even collapse altogether.”

And to add a little color, Aldridge notes Soros says it all while “peering through his owlish glasses and brushing wisps of gray hair off his forehead.”

“I am not here to cheer you up. The situation is about as serious and difficult as I’ve experienced in my career,” Soros told Newsweek. “We are facing an extremely difficult time, comparable in many ways to the 1930s, the Great Depression. We are facing now a general retrenchment in the developed world, which threatens to put us in a decade of more stagnation, or worse. The best-case scenario is a deflationary environment. The worst-case scenario is a collapse of the financial system.”

The AI put rent at 12k, that is assuming that ones annual rent is 144k, I dont know where you would get a moderate selfcon for anything less than 170k around some places in Nigeria undecided...

Secondly, it placed utilities at 7k, that is: water, electricity and gas undecided... Assuming that the gas there is cooking gas, I don't know how many kg you use in a month, but for me, that 7k will prolly cover just that, NEPA bills due to the increased tariff is prolly more than that, unless ofcourse you have a prepaid meter in your house, so it isn't feasibleundecided...

I could go on and on, but the fact is that, 62k cannot give one the barest minimum level of comfort in Nigeria, considering the strength of the current economy
undecided...

I was doing a research on personal finance management, and I ask CHATGPT to budget the proposed minimum wage of 62,000 naira proposed by the FG. Look at what I found out.

The results are simply laughable. I wonder of DeepSeek would do a BETTER job here?
