To answer your question, I don’t think i have to explain how weight averages works naa. I buy stocks when i have spare cash. At each point it is different amount. A=50 naira, B = 20 naira, C = 5 naira etc. depending on the amount invested in each stock and return on it, it all averages down to 20% return YTD

You have a YTD of about 30% YTD. Please how many stocks do you have in your portfolio?

NB: the purpose of this debate is for us to have better geared portfolios. For those saying two stocks blah blah blah, except your God or your Juju man can see the future; it is a floored argument. So please let’s explain concepts better and i won’t listen to you if you don’t show you have evidence of what you are saying - Post your YTD return. It is like a poor man giving a seminar on “maintaining generational wealth” grin

Make una answer me fast, I intend to use a significant capital outlay (well significant in comparison to my portfolio value sha grin) to diversify more today - i feel it’s necessary for an entirely different sound reason. Mind you I don’t just pick stocks at random and pour money in it.
I have just 10 stocks right now. My highest number of holdings at a time was 19.

Maybe you should cut your losses at between 8% and 10% rather than allowing it to go all the way to 15%. Also, you might have significant exposure to a sector that is not performing well.

The thing is nobody is God.

Just so you know i have a criteria that is very non-sentimental, it strictly based on value proposition. Each month i buy the best my criteria picks no matter what it is.

Besides You can never know if after you buy a stock it grows or tanks. In this same portfolio i have a stock that has done nearly 200% in less than 6 months while another is doing -15%

Please post your YTD return
**********************************

People that are not diversifying as much as i am should post their YTd return. I want to see something
Maybe you need to listen to learn rather than listen to defend, or you will continue going the wrong direction. How can you have a stock that has done nearly 200% in a market period where even dead stocks are rising but your YTD is below the market?

Well, my current highest return from a stock is about 64%

funny guy u dey form military grounded. In Nigeria, it is a tradition to retain the rank of Lieutenant General for the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and General for the Chief of Defence Staff if he is an army officer.
In other countries, particularly the United States military whose ranking system Nigeria adopted there are several active Lieutenant Generals and Generals serving at the same time. Some govt positions are reserved for a special rank. There is nothing like appointment rank...
The COAS is not the only serving Lieutenant General right now.
PoliticsRe: What Law Stipulates "Once A General Always A General" by xcitedjay(m): 8:43pm On Nov 13, 2025
I haven't seen a single video where the officer mentions this phrase: "Once a General, always a General". Wike called the former Chief of Naval Staff a former Vice Admiral and he corrected Wike. He is a retired Vice Admiral, not a former Vice Admiral.

The Federal Government continues to pay Generals their full salary even after retirement till depart this world. Maybe you should protest to the Federal Government against this since you believe that your phrase "once a General, always a General" is wrong or illegal.

Already I have made up my mind to face whatever the outcome would be coupled with the support I got from my family and friends. The girl is from Nsukka village in Enugu State and am from Orlu Imo state so before the burial I traveled to their village with some elders to discuss about her death and burial as well which spent almost three days due to so many agreements and disagreements and at the end they concluded that am to marry her on death and they gave me the list of their burial requirements and other expenses which they put in monetary form (3.5m) and ask me to pay . So on that burial day we first reported to Nsukka police division and they assign about three policemen to us due to perceived tension in the atmosphere and again my brothers came with about three 18 seater buses loaded with family and friends as we took her dead body to their village and that alone we thought it will minimise the tension. Burial that suppose not to take much time we ended up spending more than 10hrs because the youths from their village stop everything insisted we explain to them what killed their sister, even the youths president tell some guys to go and cover the already prepared ground where she will be buried demanding till we settled before any burial activities will take place Omo come see problem. After they took me to different places to swear if my hands are clean they still demanded 500k before she dem go burry her finally .and after some series of negotiations we settled those youths and finally we buried her. Omo our mind still no settle till we left the village
So her parent couldn't bury their daughter, and the whole situation turned into a series of extortion activities. If they really wanted to be sure of the circumstances of her death, they wouldn't be collecting money left and right.

This is really unfortunate. Northerners don't behave this way to themselves.

Resed that mpg meter. I'd had linked you to someone competent in PH to scan for you but you never requested for such link.
The vehicle stores the most recent mpg values for Trip A. I set my Trip A to reset every time fuel is added to my tank. Hence, the mpg is calculated based on how long that amount of fuel takes me till the next refill.

Some set their Trip A to reset after every service. However, looking at the fuel consumption for the distance in his picture, it is evident that the vehicle has been having a high fuel consumption for a very long time.

Wow see fuel consumption, my 2014 accord v6 dey average 13mpg. I don change plug, check catalyst, my mechanic say my 02 sensors dey ok. I don give up
Wow! If you are using an aftermarket wheel and tires that are not the recommended size, it could contribute to a higher consumption. Also, check if you are using a semi-synthetic oil blend like 10w 40; thicker oil can add additional drag to the engine. I won't recommend a fully synthetic one as it might be too light for your engine.

Driving an Accord is like dating a high-maintenance Baddie. Your 2014 Accord v6 is not a good car for daily driving. You will mostly enjoy it on long-distance journeys.

Well, it is noted. But currently, I'm pissed with Stanbic. Their onboarding and communication process is not what it should be. For instance, I registered with them, provided necessary details and KYC documents via the online portal and have been crediting my account steadily amounting to millions of Naira, they never send a mail that my account is in tier 1. I requested for redemption for over 24hrs, it was not processed. Same KYC details I provided other mmf operators, I used to redeem and was credited with 3hrs.

I put a call across to Stanbic to enquire why my redemption was not processed, they told me my KYC is incomplete blabla, they sent me amother onboarding form and that I should provide my KYC details all again.

This is so annoying, why wasn't I informed all these while that my account is in tier 1? Meanwhile I have provided all of these via the online portal.

And I urgently need the money cos after sending them the KYC details again and following up with call, they said 48hrs to process KYC. Same thing is happening to a friend . This is very annoying.
Started my investment journey years ago with Stanbic. This was the same reason I just opted to close my account with them and moved to AXA Mansard.

I usually don’t drive it aggressively. I even put on ECON mode to see if there would be an improvement in mileage. It’s still been the same. I scanned it December last year, and got the Evap code, which I changed the Evap canister. It still didn’t give me much improvement. And the main reason I went for the civic was for the fuel economy.
Mine too has the EVAP code, my guess is that it's due to our Nigerian fuel. Try out the other recommendations. Your vehicle shouldn't be consuming that much fuel.

The attached picture is my consumption for about approximately 20miles of highway driving a few minutes ago. 45.8mpg

This consumption rate is on the high side. You should be getting close to double this.

You could reconsider your driving habit.
Scan your car for errors, which you can work towards correcting.
Check your tires. Make sure they are in good condition and they are the recommended sizes and pressure.
Change your spark plugs.
Check the kind of oil you use.

If you sense that you would possibly need the money in some days or weeks down the line, go for the Money Market Fund. If you don't have the need for the money for a long while, go for TBills.

In other words, if liquidity is important to you, the Money Market Fund is best for you; if not, TBills could be better for you.

In most online car communities all over the world, there is a lot of knowledge sharing in helpful manner. However, some of our people tend to fall into the trap of being conceited after getting some basic knowledge on cars. I'm not sure they realise that the automotive industry is constantly evolving. EVs are gaining popularity among car owners, and the knowledge of internal combustion engines would be outdated soon.

Let us analyze each item individually.

1. Honda has had a lot of first model years and this not by any means the worst of them. A lot of people here own first model year accords and I don't see them crying. I don't see how that makes it expensive to maintain.
2. This is the only valid point I see here. That is because of the notorious VCM technology. But there's a way to disable the VCM and have a normal V6 engine. In my opinion, Honda V6 are more durable than their 4cyl.
3. Cost is a relative term. A lot of engines are more expensive than that engine. Even a Toyota 2az is more expensive if I'm not mistaken.
4. Big power big fuel. This applies to every single car brand and model out there. Everybody knows v60 takes more fuel. That is no longer news. But that is not the way Nigerians make it look. All he needs do is make sure that the engine is in good condition. Do more research on this.
5. Cost is a relative term.
6. This is actually silly.
7. To me, it doesn't. Some cars are just more expensive than others. It is a normal thing.
Perhaps you can discuss your points without being condescending.

Did your vehicle manual recommend the engine flush?

For me, I would slowly reduce my oil servicing interval so as not to double my cost of servicing, then continue driving it that way till the engine quits while saving for a replacement engine.
Car TalkRe: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by xcitedjay(m):
Macmilla:
Could you give more details on the boldened?
1. The vehicle has a few imperfections since it is the first year model of that generation. Hence, a higher than normal maintenance cost.
2. The v6 engine used in the Honda Accord v6 is not one of Honda's best engine. At least in that generation.
3. A replacement engine is quite pricey. Replacing any part in that engine will also be expensive.
4. As a v6, the fuel consumption is relatively higher.
5. Some of the parts in the v6 models are more costly than those in the 4 cylinder model. A good example is the engine seat.
6. There is that tendency for a mechanic working on your vehicle to want to charge you higher since the vehicle looks a bit luxurious.
7. Finally, the above individually might not seem all that significant but together they add to the overall maintenance expenses.

I so much appreciate the detailed explanation, Sir. Before the thermostat was removed, the radiator worked only after few minutes of driving the vehicle, not immediately the ignition is turned on. I don't know why I was so gullible to believe him without a second opinion, perhaps because he has been a personal mechanic for a little over 10 years now. I wish to reinstall the thermostat, is it safe to do this?
It's perfectly normal for the radiator fan not to start immediately you start the car. The engine needs to warm up first.

The fact that you have a "personal mechanic for 10 years" isn't necessarily a good thing oh!

Maybe I was too subtle in my earlier post. From the way you sound, that car will send you to your village soon. I strongly advise you consider selling the car as soon as possible.

I'm glad I came across this thread now and I am learning already. Ogas in the house please guide me, sometimes I feel like destroying my 2008 Honda accord, V6, 3.5litre as it is about sending me back to the village due to excessive fuel consumption. The car was bought as direct Belgium and is less than 8months post registration. Now the main issue; I visited my mechanic 4months ago to have an oil change, while at it, he told me that the radiator fan does not rotate well and that this is caused by the thermostat. According to him, the thermostat is meant for snowy and cold regions and not for tropical weather. He convinced me that the best option is removing the thermostat and bypassing some electrical stuff in the engine. I allowed him to carry out this process. Ever since this exercise the car consumes fuel excessively. I use about 30litres of fuel weekly to and fro work for a distance of less than 3km, I don't think this is normal despite that it is a V6 engine. It wasn't this bad when the thermostat was there. I want to fix back the thermostat, but I-m afraid the radiator malfunction may return. Please guide me, I am on the verge of throwing this car away. There is no other fault at all.
If the radiator fan wasn't rotating well, your vehicle would have been overheating. Allowing the mechanic to remove the thermostat was a mistake. The radiator fan shouldn't be running constantly, especially upon starting the car. Right now, the continuous fan operation prevents the engine from reaching its optimal operating temperature. This results in increased fuel consumption as the engine uses up more fuel trying to compensate for the overcooling caused by the constantly running fan.

Personally, when I'm looking at buying a used car, once I see that the thermostat have been taken out, I'm passing. Finally, that Honda Accord 2008 v6 is a high maintenance car. Best of luck with that vehicle.

The last mechanic forgot the oil type. To service soon again. Checks online shows 5W-40.

To be on the safe side use 10/15w weight oil. Since most Nigerians use 20w50.
