Good morning everyone.my visa application was denied on tuesday in abuja....no question was asked....other than what will my husband be doing while i go give birth....and i reply then next the vo just issue the pink paper....now i want to reapply because i felt i have to be given enough reason why i am not eligible,no document was checked nothing.....pls family how do i get a closer date....am seeing first of april on the appointment calender....anyway to get closer date because april is my EDD. Thanks
hi really good to be checking in here. been a while since i checked in. Considering birthing again next year, lol shocked! and am wondering if procedures have changed cos someone was saying that interview date are issued by the embassy after you have paid for the application, so what if the date isnt convenient for you what do you do then?

Omodadi2:
I was interviewed again today(3rd time)

VO: why are you going to the US

To have my second child

VO: Have u travelled outside Nigeria before

Yes. In 2016 to have my first

VO: How long are you staying
3months

VO: Do you have the proper documentations this time?
Yes I do, which one would you like to see

VO:Doctors correspondence and expenses
I gave her all email communications, appointment confirmation, expenses sheet from doctor, my budget sheet of $20,100

VO: checked very well, and asked for financial cover
Gave her Nigeria bank statement, US statement, payslips, employment letter from my office.

VO: checked through and said, sorry you are not eligible for the visa.

I went ahead this time to asked her why I am not eligible, she referred me to online information for medical tourism criteria and the documents required, I told her these are all required, tell me whc isn't there.

VO: You brought them but they are not making sense. I also said sorry, is it the account statements or the doctors correspondence and I feel you could ask a question or two if there's something not clear to you. ? VO kept mute and later said that everythingis there on paper, you don't need to be explained anything.

I wanted to talk again then she said she's sorry, she may not be able to give me any more information. Have a nice day!

Only God knows the criteria for getting US visa again now cos I don't get it anymore. My visa expires in January, many people told me to use it before expiry and I will be stamped. But because I like following due process, I said NO that I'll renew my visa, now see my life. I have spent up to 500k applying and travelling for visa interviews. The same thing I got in 2016 by just saying the truth this way, and even now my income has increased and the claim is I am not eligible. It is well!

Really strange!!!!
Maybe think back to the 1st interview you went for, and see if you can figure out any thing that the VO was not satisfied with. I think that 1st interview when you were denied is the key to unravelING this puzzle.
Cause this is really puzzling!

I think Lady G is right. In addition I think the fact that ur hubby is a UK citizen and u were refused a UK visa raised a red flag with the VO. If I were in your shoes I would find out the reason for the UK refusal rectify it and birth there.Your child would have instant citizenship since his father is a citizen. That is irrespective of where the child is born.
You could also try the US after rectifying the UK denial. But then you will be spending a lot of money for the same quality of care you re entitled to for free in the UK. Personally, I don't see the need but then that's just my opinion.
LadyGuinivere:

Well, obviously u can't apply from the UK.

I can't believe I'm the one giving this advice sha.Sometyms Abuja allows applicants to enter with their spouse. Can your husband come back? My reason being that the last refusal was prolly on the issue of ties. Maybe the VO didn't jus see your ties to Naija from the scenario u painted.
But if he can't, its just to go with their data page, visa and every supporting docx u can think of or imagine. And be very clear that u are there for childbirth. Don't go saying 'vacation and childbirth' God's grace.

@Neks na wa o! U just go hide! Shuooo! How una dey? Kisses to umu oma gi

You could check another county or depending on where you are or how easy it is for you to travrl apply for a Nigerian passport. You can apply in person in New York orWashington. Not too sure about their office in Atlanta and passport issuance. This way you don't need to wait for the US passport to be ready before applying to the Nigerian embassy and the passport can be collected same day or worse case scenario sent to you in a week.

I don't think it actually works because the bank will eventually debit at their own exchange rate. I used this option but found out after calculating what my bank charged that it was higher than 208

I feel like sharing a story I heard a while ago... This strike is truly making me joobless grin

One sister married to one big oga decided to go to US. With her bobo on the side. So she and Bobo side filled married and all what noot and appeared together. But Big oga's God was not at a party that day, He was very much around working. Na so dem deny the Sister and her bobo side application.
A few months later, big Oga say make em and e wifey go US for vacay. Them reach embassy. The Vo ask am 'are you sure this is your wife?'
Ah ah, which levels na? This is my wife.
Na em the vo turn computer show am picture and details. Na em oga just waka leave the place. That was the end of solomon grandy.

What I took from the story is that Nigerians are yet to understand the concept of records and consequences to actions. We often think we can wish away our past misdeeds or miracles will wipe them off.

Maybe their decision to stop offering international ATM transactions is due to the recent harassment of some bank workers by EFFC for exorbitant charges.

I just tire for this our country.

@ Blaize777; congrats on your new arrival. We thank God for His Mercies.
Your baby will quickly gain weight as most babies with low birth weight tend not to lose weight like babies with normal birth weight do after delivery. So please try not to be too worried. B4 you get worked up and land urself in hospital and rack up more bills.
When the thought of the bills come to mind remind yourself that you have achieved your principal aim of birthing in the US.
Just plan on discussing a payment plan with the hospital and bargain for as much discount you can get. They are always willing to help self pay patients out because most of these people know they couldn't pay that kind od bill themselves.
In all wishing you the very best.

Congrats to all the new mums, we give thanks to God for His Mercies.
Had quite a day today.
left Delaware today via train to Washington after booking appointments online at both the US passport office (there's none in Delaware) and the Nigerian consulate.
Had posted my $77 money order to the address requested as instructed on the Nigerian immigration site and printed out my acknowledgement receipt a week ago and had been firing prayers for God's grace on the sojourn.
So me n the LO woke up @4am, LO well fed and wrapped placed in car seat and off we go to the train station. Left the amtrak station at Wilmington, Delaware at 6.30am arrived washington dc at 8.20am. Took the subway to Washington DC US passport office arrived about an hour l8r. Within anoda hour baby's documents had been processed and we were asked to come for collection the next day, pleaded with the lady who attended to me that I needed to collect it that day as I don't live in DC and she goes like, OMG, you came all the way from Delaware! Not a problem, happy to do that for you ma'am. Pls come back today by 2.30pm for your daughters' passport.
Off we head to the Nigerian Consulate which was 20mins away by Uber. Me-een, DC traffic no be here!
We arrive there abt 11.30am, processed our documents within 30mins. About an hour l8r we were called for capturing, they really took care of those with kids, their service was really good, surpassed my expectations by far!
After that we were asked to wait for collection but nor told how long we would have to wait. Naija style. Was beginning to worry cos the lady at the US passport office told me to make sure to get there b4 3pm as they close at that time and as I said b4 DC traffic ain't funny. But suprisingly shortly b4 2pm the passports we ready. You need to have seen me grinning ear to ear.
Off we head again catch anoda uber back to the US passport office and collect our blue passport.
Both passports collected same day b4 3pm, could only be God!
By then this breastfeeding mama was starving we walked 6mins to good ol' Mcdonalds had a good meal and even had time to ride on the DC tour bus and see the sights b4 heading home to Delaware.
When I told my host my plan she was doubtful weather I could accomplish all in one day even I was too but I trusted God and He saw me through. Wasn't easy o, as I was alone but He was faithful.

@ Jadesola15,

I am happy you have taken it in your stride. All the best and safe delivery for Madam.

Sometimes, I even think of this whole issue and cannot blame the VOs, they have seen all sorts. Was it Nef that was talking about the babe that didn't plan to come back? I met a 23yr old Yoruba babe in Phoenix on the bus to the hospital, she regaled my Mum of all the story of how she was on a study visa with arrange school that she wasnt attending. She was pregnant, went over when she was about 8weeks gone, she was at MIHS on an aid program, she wasnt going to pay any fees, she was squatting with some strangers in a trailer house and wasnt working.

She seemed so happy with herself, I was just wondering how she would cope when the baby came, she said she was going to get some form of child support.

These days I see a number of people staying over and working on tourist visas. For a lot of people, serving in heaven is better than reigning in hell. We cannot blame them either, would we have taken different decisions if we had been in their shoes? I pray we never know.
My sentiments Exactly at the bold portion

Hi Bisoye, you really are a strong momma. Was thinking abt doing same myself but wondering if i could cope. You are giving me liver.

Gave birth at St Francis in Lynwood.
Paid $15 at hospital to expedite the BC.
Thursday:Filled forms online for naija passports.
Friday: Picked 2 copies each of BC from Vital Stat Office
Bought money order($77 and $30) @ the post office.sent the $77 money order to Innovate1 services.
Saturday:bought infant tickets for the babies at the airport.called the US passport agency line to book an appointment for Monday.
Took the babies to Walgreens to take passport photos(2 set-1 set for US,2nd for naija)
Monday:Innovate1 confirmed the money order, printed the receipt and acknowledgement page.
Went to US passport appointment (infant ticket is a complusory requirement o)their office at Wilshire Blvd, paid for expedited and was told to pickup 2 days later.
**Booked a red eye flight to Washington(depart on Wednesday night by 10pm,arrived DC 8am on Thursday, head straight to the embassy, paid extra $85 for each baby for same day collection.finished by 1pm.travelled back to LA by 5pm.got home 10pm Thursday evening.
Note:Hubby is not interested in mailing US passport for visa and ETC is almost $1000 for 2 babies with postage(and just for 7 days).
LA is far from all the embassies because when you take normal morning flight you will arrive from 3pm and you won't be able to do anything that day that's the reason for red eye flight.

Nne, just kindly use the epidural o! There s no award for forming strong woman. That pain no be here especially for FTM in which labor is usually quite long in majority of first time mothers.( can last abt 8-12hrs).
Unless during ur ANC visits ur told that your already dilating and ur cervix has dilated up to 4cm (like some pple have stated here) b4 ur in actual labor and u have a high pain threshold then you can think about it. Most women would be able to bear the pain if only labour didn't last so long.

Hello house.

CBP: Took fingerprints and asks where r u going today?
Me: Houston, have a booking with intown suites, Highway 6
CBP: why r u here?
Me: To have my baby
CBP: oooouuhhhhh really? (Not sure he noticed I'm pregnant n I travelled at 35wks+
Me: yea (with a smile)
Cbp: when is ur EDD
Me: told him
CBP:what do u do?
Me:told him
CBP: How long r u staying
Me :2months 2weeks
CBP: How much cash do u have on u
Me : 2553
CBP:Are you married
Me: yes
CBP: what does your husband do
Me: Told him
CBP: alright pls stay at the corner. Someone will come for you, they need to run further checks.

Was taken to secondary inspection. Sat there waiting for about 4hours before I got called for another interview.

Cbp: Madam, sit down
Me: good evening
CbP: How long do u intend to stay. When is ur return scheduled for
Me: 2months 2weeks.
Cbp: where will you be staying
Me: Intown suites
Cbp: have u made any payments
Me: Not yet. They don't accept payment inadvance
CBP: that's not true. You can pay with ur credit card
Me: I did not have that option. Have my booking as proof
CBP: of course they do accept payments so if u wanted to pay u would have
Me: . Maybe because I was booking from an other country but I wasn't given that option n o also called to confirm n wasn't allowed to make payment
Cbp: kept insistingthat they take payments. Was quiet n watched as she went on n on.
Cbp: how much do u have on you
Me: 2553
Cbp: How do u intend to pay ur bills
me: I have my cards
Cbp: well I've got cards as well but they all v zero balance. How much do u v on ur card
Me: 4k and v got cheques valued at 5k
C bp:How come u v US bank cheques
Me: currently there is scarcity of d dollar currency in Nigeria so i traded woth someone who had a US bank account
Cbp: when did this happen
Me: 2days ago
Cbp: u sure its ur money
Me: Yes I am sure it is
Cbp: well that is Still 11500, at ur visa interview u said it will cost u 15k to have ur baby here
Me: yes my husband will be coming as well and he will bring some cash
C bp: when will he be coming
Me: gave her an estimated arrival date
Cbp: how much does he have available to him
Me: 4k
Cbp: Oh so ur spending ur whole life savings on this trip
Me: Not at all I'm on maternity leave and ill be earning salary while m here. My husband will be earning hos salary as well
CBP: why do u want to give birth in the US
Me : this is my first and I want access to a different and better health care
Cbp: its not like u have previous experience In terms of health care how do u then compare
Me: I do
Cbp: in which country
Me: Nigeria
Cbp: what's it like and what symptoms
me: its alright but obviously Nigeria is developing US is developed . Other symptoms
Cbp: like?
Me: headache. Malaria. N all (Didn't see all these coming. Didn't know what to say
Cbp: I put it to u that if ur child would not be a US citizen. U won't be here in the first place. U r here for the passport not health care. Right?
Me: getting a passport for the child is am added perk and a good one
CBP: and that's the major reason ur here
Me:like I said its a good one but my main reason is for better health care and the citizenship is one of the perks
C BP: Started raising her voice.. you are not being honest and you r not a straight forward person. Do u know how many women I interview from Nigeria on a daily basis
Me: I wouldn't know I have no idea
C Bp: At least 20 of them n they r honest that they r here for the passport..
Me: well everyone has their reasons. For me its access to better health care system andsince I had the opportunity. I'm making use of that.
Cbp: what r u saying (woth so much disdain) so others don't v the opportunity
me: its an opportunity. Some don't, others do.
C bp: you r lying u r not being honest. At least they r honest
Me: How have I lied n how have I been dishonest. I just said having the passport is an added perk n a good one.
CBP: I am goimg to ask again. Why R u here to have ur b ab y. Why US
Me: because I want access to better health care
CBp: *went on and on about how "dishonesty" is my middle name*. Was tired of the back n forth but i insistedon my initial response cos that's my true intention so saying something else wasn't an option.
Just kept quiet n kept smiling looking a her as she typed and kept saying "at least they r honest and u r not... repeated more than 10 times
she then held on to my passport n says "go outside n sit down "
After 10mins she came out n handed my passport over and didn't give further directives.
Took it n went to another officer who looked through n said I could go. Saw that she had written "cleared" on the landing card. N also she had stamped me In till October.

No be small thing. It was really tough. Houston POE is tough..

Just be coherent and consistent.

Pls run as quickly as you can to the ssn office and report that you received it with envelope torn, and ur worried that it may have been used by someone. not mentioning anyone's name seeing as these pple are ur relatives but you still need to protect your child. Yoir child's ssn number could be used for crime or assessing loans in his name b4 long a lot of debt will be racked up in his name b4 he is old enough to sit or walk.
My own 2 cents!!

girlloom:
Hello all, please I need help.
Okay, I understand ssn should be delivered to the address provided 2 weeks or so after birth. It happened that I didn't receive my son's as at a month afterwards so I felt it actually got missing and was going to request for another. I also mentioned this to my host and they agreed it was probably missing and I should forget about it as there was no need need for the number. At 7 weeks after, I decided to apply for his passport and there was a part on the application form where they requested for ssn, so I told my host that I would be going to the social security office to request for a new one. He then asked to see where the number was requested on the form so I showed him. Surprisingly, my host told me I shouldn't bother that the ss card would be delivered that day and he was very certain. At 8pm that day, he handed me my son's card lnot looking new with no envelope and his ssn exposed. Why would he open a mail that was clearly addressed to my son? I couldn't even say anything because he is my sis inlaw's husband and don't want to come across as rude. Now I suspect my son's card has been used fraudulently for tax claims. Please is it possible to block the number from being used? May I add that my host is now suddenly over protective of his mailbox. I believe there are letters he is receiving that he doesn't want me to see.

I'm not sure why that happened. Could you state the airport where this occurred so we know if it is particular with certain places.

However, the US office customer rep even said we could call them at the airport if there are issues and they will talk to the staff.

I know this may happened.
