Obinnau:That's exactly why I said only the smartest will emerge winners. Smart students strategize. Candidates are free to discuss their strategies. They may also decide to keep it to themselves for obvious reasons. All way na way. I am the overall coordinator of the test so I am not in a position to advise candidates on strategies. @ all candidates, there is no negative marking. 3 Likes |

For those requesting for a timer, I will like to say that time management is a big part of the exam. This is an online exam. You can improvise a timer. No timer will be provided. Believe me, adding a visible timer can astronomically increase the tension while taking the test. Let each candidate provide a timer for themselves. You have 60 questions to be answered in 35 minutes. However, I have added a feature such that you can skip questions you do not know simply by clicking on the arrows besides the number list. This will enable concentrate on the ones you know first. After finishing all the ones you know, you can go back to review any question you were unsure of. You can navigate back and forth with arrows. It will also now request that you submit your answers if you reach the end before time elapses. If your time elapses while answering the questions, it will count only the ones you answered. Please attempt as many times as you want before 10pm today. This will enable get familiar with the online platform and you can decide which network, browser, phone, location or strategy to use. 3 Likes 1 Share

dejt4u:The stakes just got higher guys! Ariel20 has contributed 10k for the eventual winner while InvertedHammer has pledged 100k for the winner. This means the winner will now be given a guaranteed sum of 70k and could potentially get a total of 170k if InvertedHammer redeems his pledge! Buckle up guys. Good luck. Thanks Ariel20 and InvertedHammer For those raising concerns that they are yet to receive any email, no email has been sent out yet. The email for the sample test will be sent to all shortlisted candidates at about 10pm today and will be open for 24 hours. Remember it's only a sample test of 10 easy questions to make you familiar with the online assessment platform. It is NOT graded. This is the reason why you need to ensure your emails are correct. Notify dejt4u and Odunharry if they need corrections before 6pm. Education / Annual Xfire Nairaland Undergraduate Quiz Competition (scholarship) - Maiden Ed. by xfire: 8:02am On Jan 03, 2017 |
Good morning y'all and happy new year! Let me give a brief introduction about myself before moving to the main subject matter. My name is xfire and I have dedicated most of my activities on Nairaland into guiding and enlightening young students & graduates based largely from my own experiences both in and out of school (though I have been low key for a while now). You can view my Nairaland profile to see my past threads and posts on Nairaland for further insight. You can also view my past articles on jarushub.com As part of contributions towards giving back to the society that has benefited me, I will be starting an annual quiz / scholarship award for Nairaland undergraduates to be sustained annually for now, with 2017 being the maiden year. The quiz will be in form of an online aptitude test to be administered to interested and qualified participants. The Top 3 students from the online test results will be announced here and the cash awards will be given as follows: Winner: N50, 000 1st Runner up: N30, 000 2nd Runner up: N20, 000 A cash prize of N5, 000 each will be given to the 4th and 5th best as consolation. I will also appreciate if I can have a diligent student volunteer that will assist in designing the electronic award certificate and also ACTIVELY support me in the general coordination of the whole exercise. The volunteer student will be rewarded with a token after the whole exercise as he/she will be excluded from participating in the scholarship exercise. If you are willing to assist, please send me a mail on xfire2014@gmail.com not later than tomorrow. Criteria for Participation: (1) Must a Nairaland Member with account registered not later than 30th June, 2016. (2) Must have made a minimum of 7 posts (with no rules broken) in the Education section in 2016. (3) Must be an Nigerian undergraduate in any tertiary institution in Nigeria but not in final year. Final year students are excluded. If you meet all the criteria and you are interested, just signify interest by stating your email address, institution, level & course of study on this thread. Since this is the maiden edition and I will be the main person overseeing this effort for 2017, the exercise will limited to the first 60 students that signify interest and meet the criteria stated above. All shortlisted participants will be posted here once the cut-off limit (60) is reached. Hopefully, I will be less involved in subsequent editions which means more participants can be involved and more prizes may be given out. Plan is to conclude the whole exercise by January ending. You can post an enquiry here. More information will provided as the day goes by. Cheers.... xfire Cc Seun, Nairaland owner, lalasticlala Cc Education mods 49 Likes 29 Shares |

Career / Re: Top 10 Most Demanded Jobs In The Oil And Gas Industry by xfire: 3:54pm On Aug 06, 2016 |
Kaycee625:Well.... First of all, I will strongly advise you to keep your options wide open and not restrict yourself to the oil industry. The oil industry, especially in Nigeria is currently in a lull due to prevailing low oil prices (which many predict will last for quite a while), poor government funding and the renewed activities of ND militants. Thus, many oil firms are shedding redundant staff or aggressively looking for opportunities to minimize cost. That being said, there are numerous opportunities for civil engineers particularly in the upstream industry. A civil engineer can work as a structural engineer (constructing/maintaining concrete and steel structures), environmental engineer, project engineer, etc. As a matter of fact, the basic requirement to work for an IOC is a good grade in any relevant engineering discipline. You can be deployed to work in any vacant engineering position. You will be trained on the job. I know civil engineers that ended up being drilling and even reservoir engineers. For a fresh engineer, acquiring further degrees is usually preferable to certification. A Masters in structural, petroleum or environmental engineering will be good. For certification, I will say go for Project Management or Safety (NEBOSH). In addition, try to join NSE as a graduate member. 2 Likes |
