I've driven a manual before some some 8 years ago. But someone told me I dare not try using if for uber/taxify. That I may not be able to cope. Asking because manual drive is significantly cheaper for same model of car

If you're driving in a city like Lagos, YES the job is more difficult with a manual car irrespective of tour experience and number of years driving manual.

Hi guys, hope you're enjoying your holiday, yesterday started out well but ended in a funny way, I'll like to hear from you guys.

So I picked a lady from access bank close to shoprite at the palms, she was going to magodo shangisha, traffic was very bad yesterday, while we were struggling with the third mainland traffic, should saw her colleague driving beside us and she said I should park and end the trip.

Me: sorry ma, I can't end the trip here, it's not a convenient place for me.

Rider: raising her voice.. What's the meaning of this, you mean I should continue and waste my money when I can join my friend. She made move to open the door, I just quietly cleared to the right and the colleague was right behind us.

My plan was to continue to her destination and end it when I get there but as soon as she got down she ended it from her end, which is one thing I dislike about uber allowing riders end trip on their own.

I was very mad because I spent almost 2hrs to get to the mainland when I could have just remained on the island and do short trips. I complained to uber and they said rider has the right to end trip if they feel uncomfortable, I was like, una de mad, who is talking about rider being uncomfortable here. Seriously it's very annoying.

One thing almost every "uber don cast" driver here doesn't realize or failed to acknowledge is uber was not designed for renta Once you accept this fact, a major psychological barrier is lifted and clarity may be gained.
Acceptance is key for both driver and landlord here. Uber has a model that it operates globally and that is- drive your car at your own pace to make extra cash.
We in Nigeria found a way to build a model (Rental) around this model. Here uber has no hand, that's why uber doesn't directly provide drivers or vehicles.
The uber is slavery conversation can therefore only be effective at driver/owner level. That's why people who drive their own vehicles aren't crying so much as rental drivers and landlords. Uber is like airbnb
Gazzuz and the fence crew are on the fence because of the inefficiencies that arise via the third party (drivers). If Gazzuz or dru23 drove their cars themselves, they'll spend much less on maintenance and generally enjoy higher profitability.
Personally, I don't see how 35k is so hard, its grossing 15k daily after commission. 5k for fuel, 5k for landlord, 5k for me. A mistake I think we make is wanting to remove all our expenses, including personals, from our earnings before arriving at a net income. Anything outside of fuel and recharge card for data and calls cannot be classed under operating expenses. Suppose you earn a salary of 100k after taxes and contributions i.e. pension/him etc that is your NET. Not after house rent, feeding, fees etc, all that will come out of that 100k as living expenses. How you manage it will determine how far it'll take you. But we want to remove fuel, rent, commission, dstv, Netflix and then bank 40k as net for the week... Naaa.
Finally, we need to understand and respect each other. What I put in is different from what others might. I looked at Jesusson2020 hours online and number of trips and juxtaposed with mine... I did 42 hours 33 trips against his 72 hours. Numbers don't lie. Now if he's paying his rent consistently and owner services and maintains car appropriately it'll take some time for any major car trouble to come up. Saying his engine will soon knock is plain evil.
Also, we must understand that e-hailing does not begin and end on nairaland. There's only a fraction of drivers/landlords/riders on this thread so lets stop sounding like this is the e-hailing national assembly where all matters are decided. Plenty people no know or send una here. I went to Denis at Akoka to fix my a.c. some months ago, I got to know of him on nl but the guy no even know of nairaland. Lets just chill Abeg.
There's an entitlement mentality drivers here have which I think needs to stop. Let's not confuse it with having high self esteem. If anything, I smacks of an insecure and fragile personality. Drivers need to earn what's desired and not Command it, you have to be at a certain level in live to be able to command things of others. Someone here said taxify has more drivers than uber therefore it'll ruin uber if they continue to lose drivers and I'm wondering if its drivers that are requesting rides or riders.
Lets think in perspective, but most of all let's live and let live. I must not see the world through your eyes.

Tired of this popular crappy false saying, if uber was not made with rentals in mind, would they be linking up drivers and partners? Would they ask you if you're driving for yourself or the you have your own car during registration? Problem is that fares are low traffic and bad roads.

I've been doing business since I was 16, I know when to cash out and venture into something else.

Dru has a privilege of bringing in Tokunbo cars at 1m. That is not the reality of this uber business for majority of partners. I also agree with him that if you can't access Tokunbo cars at 1.4m max like he does, this business is not for you.

This post is childish and funny, when did gazzuzz become a yardstick for comparing success of a business? If he doesn't know how to do the business does not mean the business is bad. So because he chose to sit on the fence, others should follow, anyway what I've discovered is that the serious people making money on uber are not even on nairaland.

Taxify fares are becoming ridiculously low, a rider requested for one taxify and one uber to convey his family and friends from lawason road to egbeda, we left same time and I lead the way with the Uber driver right behind me, on getting to destination, taxify total was 2500 and uber 3700 I was furious, only to get a trip from there to ogba and taxify charged 1200. Right now I think I will go back to using only uber.

on any modern car (older than 2003) fuel gauge will not move with ignition on while filling tank. If you like fill the tank to the brim it will remain static until car drives around for a while.

Picked a rider yesterday from Ogba going to jankande, apraoching third mainland Bridge she began smoking in my car without permission, I immediately told her it's not allowed to smoke in my car, she didn't stop so I had to park around oworo and politely wanted her to stop smoking and she got upset and told me to come throw out my vehicle, I insisted she puts it off before I continue, she now started drama, she threatened to accuse me of trying to rape her if I insist, very unlike me, I just calmed down, rolled down my windows turned off my AC and continued the journey. Guys how do you deal with such girls? My next rider complained that I was smoking. I just don't like taxify riders

You can't pay for waiting time but wants someone to wait.

If she didn't spend more than 15mins, the base fare is more than the wait time so it would have been more profitable for you when she requests you again.

It's very simple, when a rider calls me and asked where are you in a harsh voice without greeting, I just asked please who am I speaking to? That will calm. Their nerves.
