What is BIM?

Building information modeling (BIM) is a process involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places. Building information models (BIMs) are files (often but not always in proprietary formats and containing proprietary data) which can be extracted, exchanged or networked to support decision-making regarding a building or other built asset. Current BIM software is used by individuals, businesses and government agencies who plan, design, construct, operate and maintain diverse physical infrastructures, such as water, refuse, electricity, gas, communication utilities, roads, bridges, ports, tunnels, etc.

Whatever your role in construction, it’s more than likely that you’ve heard the term “BIM Model”. But what do people actually mean when they say this?

So that’s the basic concept of what BIM actually is… but so what? What will BIM mean for you and why are so many people around the world advocating it?

Well BIM is an agent for change. As soon as you try and implement it you’ll find yourself having to reconsider your approach to many issues that have dogged our industry for years. Things like poor collaboration, competitive tendering, risk transfer, late engagement of specialists and our focus on capital costs. Successful implementation of BIM can address these issues whilst delivering further benefits for both individuals and the organisations they work for.

In many ways the BIM acronym has become its own worst enemy. People often hear the term, rather than the vision associated with it or any kind of personalised benefits for them. This has resulted in it becoming something of an enigma; a phrase that represents some form of digital change that most people don’t really understand. Slow adoption rates, false claims, additional fees and so on are all manifestations of this issue.

I suggest the field should be open for all to play irrespective of whether you have been gifted an item or not. Anyone who has anything should post it here as well as location. That will result in multiple cycles

I know these are kinda played out on other forums (Mobile Nations) , but they do seem to work, at least until people start getting greedy, and they self destruct.

However, I'm starting this thread, so hopefully it'll work out for a while. Basically, everyone has a little bit of extra stuff for lying around the house.

Some of these can be sold, but wouldn't you feel better if you just gave something to someone who could use it, rather than putting it on up for sale getting a few bucks? Times are tough, and it's nice to be able to accessorize without breaking the bank.

So the concept is, post one of your extra things for free. Someone IM's you and says they want it, and you ship it to them. This isn't a way for other people to make money off of another's kindness, so please only request things that you'll be able to personally use.

This is where quite a lot of you guys who have never used the KEYone before get it wrong..

The KEYone launched just a $100 less last year..

Considering that it's a lot more expensive to produce a device with Keyboards not to talk of one with one with capacitive abilities..

The KEY2 is for a targeted consumer, and if you don't fall into that category there are a million and one Options for you out there..

It's not about the latest chip set anymore..

With a Snapdragon 660 you can comfortably do as much as you want while maxing out the Battery Life (2 days+) on that device.. taking from experience with the KEYone..

This can be achieved cos of the optimization that's gone into the software and also coupled with other security features and let's face it there's a lot more hardware on this device than on glass slab devices
