If anyone knows where I can get either the 12 or 12R (New) in Nigeria please refer me. I've checked just phones, checked Wholesales and none of them have it yet. |
Real Estate. I mean affordable housing. We could discuss this.. |
smirn:This is a very daft response. One devoid of sense and thinking. Have salaries increased? Has the purchasing power of your currency increased? How you came up with this response beats me. People are putting in triple the work and earning the same pay whilst prices skyrocket. You've not heard of inflation? You're busy getting comfortable with suffering whilst your mates in progressive countries are making strides. Continue. |
Damn, The entire comment just shows our lack of appreciation for quality work. No wonder we have very poorly designed buildings everywhere with crude craftsmanship and bare minimum when it comes to standards. Just look around you... As an Architect myself, I intentionally do not regard anyone who calls himself an Architect, Designer or Engineer with no physical address I can walk into when it's time for reviews. It already speaks less of your business sense and design grit. |
Originalsly:These columns have been designed to fit. The strength of a column is not solely dependent on its shape nor size or material composition only but all three and more depending on the structural analysis of the structural engineers. So yeah semi-circle, rectangular, oblong, cylindrical does not matter. Also, expansion joints in most cases run all through the building at whatever point they are located all the way to the foundation. Also, the width of the column, in this case, may not matter and only serve the purpose of ensuring the gaps are not so obvious as the previous column might just be enough to support a cantilevered (Suspended) beam all the way to the joint with these 2 semi-circular ones only for visual appeal and safety factor. |
Originalsly:You can have expansion joints at strategic location with a maximum of 30 meters apart from each other. And usually expansion joints are located where there are columns and beams to support each side of the expansion. In this case you have half of the column supporting one side and the other half supporting the other with their respective beams. This is by design. Each half has been calculated to fit. And because this is a circular column, this is the only way to do the expansion joint. Apart from expansion and contraction, also to allow uneven settlement based on the terrain and soil capacity. |
That's an expansion joint. Though requires constant maintenance. There's no cause for alarm. If you look through, you'll see the slit runs all through the columns on that line as well the beams and slab above and below. It's very normal. |
Even if you use the best in materials, or you procured them yourself, If by design the building is faulty, it'll still collapse. Nigerians cut a lot of corners even chamfer cause of profit, You cut corners in design (Hire Quacks and Na my friend to do design because you want it cheap, Ignoring professionals) You cut corners in Analysis (No soil test, No Flood Test, No Environmental Impact Assesment, No Structural Anaylysis, No form of analysis at all) You cut corners in construction (Expan the building beyond it's design capacity, Hire QUACKs in place of actual Builders to Build, Hire QUACKS to supervise with no Tests to ensure standards are followed) Then you think buying materials yourself or buying the highest quality will save you. I give that building 10years Max and your so called quality materials will fail you.. May not collapse but you'll discover other problems (Over Settling, Leakages, Damp, Bukling etc) |
timesup234:I won't stoop soo low to your level to exchange words with you but I'll for the sake of your future give you advice. Learn to have sensible conversations ONLINE. You don't know who I am neither have we met before nor crossed paths but here you are telling me to shut up. You better learn now before it's too late. I may overlook this. Somebody else wouldn't. |
Hire professionals, and pay professional service fees and also ensure there's no compromise. NO. You want to make 120% profit. See the results. |
Nauttyprof:You all need to WORK in proper organizations to understand HOW THINGS WORK. |
As a civil engineer you designed a building of 670M and you went through permit and all and you weren't sued? You did all the permit process and nobody picked you up for fraud. Continue. |
JustforMen:Of course, there will be his likes running in my mentions. Not surprised. I think Guinness can make the award for 2. |
NwaAmaikpe:I have never seen anyone this daft in my entire life. Damn you deserve a Guinness record. |

It's called leveling up your peers. I do everything I can to educate my peers and have them elevated in whatever way possible. That's because you always fall back to the level of your circle. To get this done for GenZ and millennials is via social clubs (physical or virtual) and constant education (not schooling) and access to information. How do I know you've interest in something or at least can be trusted with delivery if we were not in some constant communication? Leveraging social circles in key. It doesn't have to be classmates alone. Even older folks find you trustworthy if they have you in their circle and you proffer solutions to their problems. Imagine if in my circle someone has interest but doesn't have the capacity to deliver services that is required at a particular time in the value chain of my industry. My job is to INFORM this individual to get prepped and ensure he/she gets the necessary information to be ready for what's to come. This might include also investing in his/her upskilling process, acquiring required documentation and also funding. The wealthy understands these things and use it to their advantage. |

Do people know there's something called CARBON dating? |
Resigned in January from an Architectural Firm after working for 3 years. (pay was relatively okay with benefits...but) Toxic and averse to innovation and Tech. Leadership unwilling to be open to suggestions and recommendations from younger staff cause "It's not how we do it" Internal politics and hate, back stabbing and sabotage. Eye service and please the master only mentality. My industry (Architecture and Construction) is experiencing a flux of digital transformation. I couldn't be left behind. I've always wanted to do better in the delivery of construction projects as an Architect. This made me co-found a company for integrated project delivery. Also partnered with an Interior designer to deliver outstanding projects in record time. So everything is in-house. More like the way Tesla builds their cars. Resigned in January to fully focus on the company and make the change I've always dreamt of. |
Did you sign a contract with the architect? If not, there's nothing much you can do but to pick you self up and move on. |
