2023 Will Make no difference as far as we know, we perceive that successive government are always worst than their predecessors.
Everyone is beginning to see the reality so no one want to talk or protest.
Funny to state that we judge our economy by mere price of commodities instead of the affordability. A price of cement is now 5000k but people afford it more than when it was selling for just 1500k.
Turning around the economy is all about creating opportunities and it's a process.
People are now crying that they is no fuel whereas we didn't know any scarcity for over four years ago now.
We need to accept realities and be patient as a people. Let see how 2023 is going to change things.
This is a very daft response. One devoid of sense and thinking.

Have salaries increased? Has the purchasing power of your currency increased?

How you came up with this response beats me. People are putting in triple the work and earning the same pay whilst prices skyrocket. You've not heard of inflation?

You're busy getting comfortable with suffering whilst your mates in progressive countries are making strides. Continue.

Damn,

The entire comment just shows our lack of appreciation for quality work. No wonder we have very poorly designed buildings everywhere with crude craftsmanship and bare minimum when it comes to standards. Just look around you...

As an Architect myself, I intentionally do not regard anyone who calls himself an Architect, Designer or Engineer with no physical address I can walk into when it's time for reviews. It already speaks less of your business sense and design grit.

If I understand you correctly ... you're saying the one column we are seeing is really two separate columns .... each supporting a separate beam in a different section of the lot .... double column... double beam. The split on the second column and the beam to support your point. Point taken. ( If that's really the case ... then I have safety issues with the design in the column is barely half the width of the beam and made worse by being half cylindrical.)

I hear you... but still can't believe such a skinny cylindrical column can actually be two. And we wonder why buildings keep collapsing.
I've seen sooo many columns being made..... various sizes... the amount of steel work that goes into a column amazed me ... concrete just being the icing on the cake... but this one is really beyond me. On columns and expansion joints .... I believe expansion joints are somehow on the top of the columns. I've noticed there's always a lot of "caterings" at the top of the columns ... I guess for attaching to the beams ... flexibility in terms of when the building sways due to wind impact or in cases of earthquakes and I guess for expansion and contraction.
These columns have been designed to fit. The strength of a column is not solely dependent on its shape nor size or material composition only but all three and more depending on the structural analysis of the structural engineers. So yeah semi-circle, rectangular, oblong, cylindrical does not matter. Also, expansion joints in most cases run all through the building at whatever point they are located all the way to the foundation.

Also, the width of the column, in this case, may not matter and only serve the purpose of ensuring the gaps are not so obvious as the previous column might just be enough to support a cantilevered (Suspended) beam all the way to the joint with these 2 semi-circular ones only for visual appeal and safety factor.
TravelRe: Man Raises Concern Over Cracked Basement Pillar At The Lagos Airport (Photo) by Xtopher123(m): 4:48am On Nov 29, 2021

Why would expansion joints be on pillars? I've been in soooo many such parking lots ... and underground parking lots in high rise buildings where there is great fluctuation in seasonal temperatures and have never ever seen expansion joints on pillars. My best guess is sloppy work ... the mould used to cast the concrete left that crease when removed and it was never filled up after. The same can be said of the beams with the apparent crack... most likely the where two plates used to set the concrete reached. The plates were removed and the rough seam not filled in and smooth out. If not ... then the pillars and beams are really coming apart at their weakest points. Just my take!
You can have expansion joints at strategic location with a maximum of 30 meters apart from each other.

And usually expansion joints are located where there are columns and beams to support each side of the expansion. In this case you have half of the column supporting one side and the other half supporting the other with their respective beams. This is by design. Each half has been calculated to fit. And because this is a circular column, this is the only way to do the expansion joint.

Apart from expansion and contraction, also to allow uneven settlement based on the terrain and soil capacity.
TravelRe: Man Raises Concern Over Cracked Basement Pillar At The Lagos Airport (Photo) by Xtopher123(m): 4:41am On Nov 29, 2021
That's an expansion joint. Though requires constant maintenance.

There's no cause for alarm. If you look through, you'll see the slit runs all through the columns on that line as well the beams and slab above and below.

It's very normal.
PropertiesRe: Building Under Construction Collapses In Lekki (Photo) by Xtopher123(m): 10:05am On Nov 03, 2021
Even if you use the best in materials, or you procured them yourself, If by design the building is faulty, it'll still collapse.

Nigerians cut a lot of corners even chamfer cause of profit,

You cut corners in design (Hire Quacks and Na my friend to do design because you want it cheap, Ignoring professionals)
You cut corners in Analysis (No soil test, No Flood Test, No Environmental Impact Assesment, No Structural Anaylysis, No form of analysis at all)
You cut corners in construction (Expan the building beyond it's design capacity, Hire QUACKs in place of actual Builders to Build, Hire QUACKS to supervise with no Tests to ensure standards are followed)

Then you think buying materials yourself or buying the highest quality will save you.

I give that building 10years Max and your so called quality materials will fail you.. May not collapse but you'll discover other problems (Over Settling, Leakages, Damp, Bukling etc)

While I don't dispute any of your Comment, I just want to correct this - Architects truly design and it is in the aspect of producing a drawing of the building with several views of the building. Also, Civil Engineers do what we call Structural Design and this aspect has to do with the design of the structural members of a building that will sustain or ensure that what the Architect drew can come to reality. It is called Structural Design in Civil Engineering. Civil Engineers will just say design.
You all need to WORK in proper organizations to understand HOW THINGS WORK.

shocked

I may be wrong but I personally believe that the easiest and most therapeutic way to cope as a man if your wife is the breadwinner of the home is by making "Cuckold" your favourite porn genre.

It makes you realize that so many men go through worse and they were able to transform the negativity into a great source of personal pleasure.
If you can't stand it, then be better.

Except you are terminally ill or medically incapacitated, allowing your wife become the breadwinner is worse than Esau gifting his birthright to Jacob.

You'd lose all your dominance, influence, and respect. It won't be long before she starts sending you on errands to buy condoms for her to take to work.

Over to Lala and the other elders.
I have never seen anyone this daft in my entire life. Damn you deserve a Guinness record.

CareerRe: How Do You Think Young People Can Network Better? by Xtopher123(m): 11:06pm On Aug 01, 2021
It's called leveling up your peers.

I do everything I can to educate my peers and have them elevated in whatever way possible. That's because you always fall back to the level of your circle.

To get this done for GenZ and millennials is via social clubs (physical or virtual) and constant education (not schooling) and access to information.

How do I know you've interest in something or at least can be trusted with delivery if we were not in some constant communication?

Leveraging social circles in key. It doesn't have to be classmates alone. Even older folks find you trustworthy if they have you in their circle and you proffer solutions to their problems.

Imagine if in my circle someone has interest but doesn't have the capacity to deliver services that is required at a particular time in the value chain of my industry. My job is to INFORM this individual to get prepped and ensure he/she gets the necessary information to be ready for what's to come.

This might include also investing in his/her upskilling process, acquiring required documentation and also funding. The wealthy understands these things and use it to their advantage.

Resigned in January from an Architectural Firm after working for 3 years. (pay was relatively okay with benefits...but)

Toxic and averse to innovation and Tech.
Leadership unwilling to be open to suggestions and recommendations from younger staff cause "It's not how we do it"
Internal politics and hate, back stabbing and sabotage.
Eye service and please the master only mentality.

My industry (Architecture and Construction) is experiencing a flux of digital transformation. I couldn't be left behind. I've always wanted to do better in the delivery of construction projects as an Architect.

This made me co-found a company for integrated project delivery. Also partnered with an Interior designer to deliver outstanding projects in record time. So everything is in-house. More like the way Tesla builds their cars.

Resigned in January to fully focus on the company and make the change I've always dreamt of.
