Politics / Re: Our Ancestors Built This Wall 600 Years Ago. Today We Would Pay CHINA To Do It. by xtremely9ja: 9:22pm On Sep 22, 2023
As much as we take pride in our history, we should also be careful to tell our story in a more believable way without exaggeration. Yes, our ancestors built moats and ramparts (rather than walls in many places) for which many portions of it did not survive till the present day.

However, boldly saying that the Benin Walls were three times longer than the Great Wall of China is totally false and utterly ludicrous. The total length of the Great Wall of China is 21,000Kms and a greater portion of it is still standing to date. While the total land area perimeter of present-day Benin City is far larger than the total inhabited land area of old Benin City standing at approximately 130Km, obviously, there is no way you want to build moats and ramparts of 16,000Km length within 130Km to except building it like we do with perimeter fence for each house today.

Even if the claim of 16,000Km is true a large portion of the moats or ramparts (wall) should still be standing today.

Car Talk / Re: Honda Accord 09 Is Hard To Start When Hot by xtremely9ja: 3:57pm On Apr 12, 2020
aca77:
Experienced brothers what could be the cause? The car starts normally when engine is cool, but when you drive around for some time and then put off the engine, if you try to start it back almost immediately it drags slowly and refuses to start one hand.

Also, the acceleration is poor when trying to ascend a hilly road. Sounds like it's struggling (like exhaust leakage kinda sound), but it's not the exhaust.

I'll appreciate any expert advice on this before I take it to the mechanic, to avoid rip-off.

Nothing is wrong with your engine, it is most likely your battery. Forget that your battery indicator might be showing that it is still OK, most of the batteries we have in the market now will not last more than 18 months. If your battery is older or around 18 months old your might want to drive to your battery dealer to check your battery health and if it is around 75% or lower, then it is time to change it. The dealer might also help you to see if there is electricity leakage which might weaken your battery. It is also good to make sure when replacing your battery that you stick with the recommended Amperes rating which is in your case 75 Amp for Honda Accord 8th Gen AKA 08 Accord.
Good luck

Please how can I stabilize the signal from NIGCOMSAT in Lagos? Quite a number of guys have tried to do if for me to no avail, it will be stabilized for some days and start misbehaving again. It will even go off for days only to show again some other days. I am using a 1m dish. The last guy even said the issue was from the Diseq switch and signal interference but after sometimes it's back to square one again. Thanks

Let me put the distance of the shooting range (Asabanka Shooting Range @ Akpabuyo) to the Atiku campaign venue (U.J. Esuene Stadium @ Big Qua) into perspective for people who don't know where the two venues are located. It is like from Ikoyi to National Stadium Surulere or From Ojodu-Berger to National Stadium Surulere. That is how far distance of the two venue apart from each other is like. You will also travel through a forest and cross a major river before you get to Calabar from Akpabuyo.
How can somebody in Surulere be crying over an event taking place in Ikoyi or Berger.
Nigeria go dey alright las las.

Properties / Re: (photos)rampant Structural Window Cracks! Why? by xtremely9ja: 3:11pm On Jan 12, 2016
from the picture showing the crack from the wall extending all across the floor and with all you have said about other buildings within that locality, I can confidently say that those cracks are as a result of differential settlement.
The problem with this is that, no matter the numbers of repairs you embark upon to restore the building, until the settlement is final (which can take quite some time even years) it will keep on coming back.
One way to forestall this kind of case, is to do proper soil investigation before you build, because if the bearing capacity and the type of soil was put in consideration before building the foundation would have been designed to redistribute the loads so that there can be an even settlement.

I am sorry this what is been done in Abia state as a concrete road is an insult on the civil engineering profession. angry My reason is as below;
1. There two main types of rigid pavement Continuously reinforced concrete pavement and Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement.
2. For a good concrete pavement the slump of the concrete should be between 0 and 60mm but what we can see in these pictures is a flowing concrete.
3. The sub-base should be of packed crushed aggregate (mixed material) of 0-20mm.
4. The concrete should not be below 30 Mpa i.e 30N/mm2
5. Because the road will be subjected to flexural stress rather than compressive stress, the minimum flexural strength in concrete pavement by standard is 4.5Mpa, considering a concrete that is not reinforced that should make the compressive strength be not less than 45 Mpa, since flexural strength by the rule of thumb is 10% of compressive strength of any concrete specimen.
6. There should be a prime course for water proofing but there was none in that picture.
7. For the Jointed plane concrete pavement, which it appears they are working on, dowel should be provided between 3 to 6 meter or the lesser of 20 time the depth of the pavement.
8. Tie bars should be provided between two lane constructed at different times.
9. Contraction joint should be provided at every 3 to 6 meter or the lesser of 20 times the depth of the pavement.
10. Curing compound should be sprayed for proper curing of the pavement immediately after surface grooving with broom.

We can continue on and on to show that the work is a failure on arrival. The painful thing is that the ministry engineers that are suppose to supervise do not know their right from left, archaic set of professionals.

I am busy now,I will still modify this comment after.

Travel / Re: Calabar Monorail Coaches Arrive by xtremely9ja: 3:07pm On May 11, 2015
Lol grin grin grin grin grin.......Politicians are liers of the highest order......the distance the monorail will cover is approximately 400 meters from Tinapa to The International Conference Center which also is a gargantuan waste of money. A bridge of less than 50 meters over the artificial lake separating the two location or a 1.5 km road circumventing the Tinapa Resort lake would have been of enormous benefit, to the plan residential estate around WAEC which is near the International Conference Center. The bridge or link road would also have directed more traffic to Tinapa to resurrect business activities there from the international conference center end.
But I guess the 1.5Km road could not be used to defraud the state enough neither will the cost of a 50 meter bridge over the lake. I pity my country. cry cry

Why do people take pleasure in lying. Calabar Port is still as dry as ever. undecided The vessels that comes into Calabar port these days are small vessels conveying petroleum products for the tank farms at EPZ, grains for FlourMill & Dangote and parts for UniCem cement second line. The main port is always dry of activities except the tank farms at EPZ. The business resort at TINAPA that the port is suppose to serve is as dead as ever and the facilities are gradually decaying. Most of the shops in the arcades are under lock and key. The two major retailer left at TINAPA are DaViva and Woodin selling printed textile materials.
The only vessel that comes with other products into the port comes once in two month after been trans-loaded from Tema in Ghana.
Come to Calabar port and TINAPA and you will weep for Nigeria. cry cry
