Foreign AffairsRe: Countries With The Most Nuclear Weapons by yashau(op):
How many Nigeria has?
Foreign AffairsCountries With The Most Nuclear Weapons by yashau(op): 10:46am On Mar 02, 2022
Here are the countries with the most nuclear weapons;

According to Statista, “There were approximately 13,080 nuclear warheads worldwide as of January 2021, and almost 90 per cent of them belong to two countries: the United States and Russia.”
What are nuclear warheads? These are weapons of mass destruction that can wipe out an entire city in minutes and kill everyone in it.

After the havoc they wreck, their radioactive effect is still felt because they damage the environment for generations to come.

Nuclear weapons have been used once in history and that was by the United States in 1945 when they bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the second world war.
Since then, many countries have been building nuclear weapons. These are unofficial disclosures, they could be more or less.

Russia
Russia has 6,255 nuclear warheads. That is a truly outrageous number. They can be launched as missiles, submarines or aircraft.

United States
The United States has 5,550 nuclear weapons.

China
China is next with allegedly 350 nuclear weapons and they are still making more.

France
France has about 290 nuclear weapons. Its first nuclear weapon was tested in 1960.
UK
The United Kingdom has 225 nuclear weapons. It currently has four ballistic marine submarines.

Pakistan
Pakistan has about 165 nuclear weapons.

India
India follows behind with 160.

Israel
Israel has about 90. Israel has never confirmed that it has nuclear weapons.

North Korea
North Korea rounds it up with 45.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has said those who have lived in Lagos for 20 years should be given a free pass to heaven due to traffic congestion in the commercial city.

The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said this on Thursday while explaining the rationale for introducing the four-day working week in Kaduna.

“When people rest more, they are more productive when they come on Monday. They do much more work. Most people are tired on Thursdays anyway; let’s be realistic,” he said during a ministerial briefing in Abuja.

“I don’t know how people in Lagos survive. Every day, four hours in traffic for five days. I don’t know if Saturdays and Sundays are enough for them to rest.

“That is why I feel that all those that have lived in Lagos for 20 years should just go straight to heaven because they have already lived in hell. Honestly, they have paid their dues so they should just be given free pass.”

On how the state government has implemented it, the governor said schools were the easiest. According to him, since schools initially had classes up to 12pm on Fridays – which is only four hours – one more hour was added to the other days of the week.

“The health sector was the easiest because the health sector always operates a shift system — 36 hours a week. Where we have challenges is with the private sector because of over-time. Now, if you work on Fridays, it is extra pay because it is overtime,” El-Rufai said during the event organised by the presidential media team.

“We have not imposed it on the private sector yet. We are discussing with them to have a transition period of two to three years, but certainly, in the public sector, we have resolved all the issues. We are drafting the regulations to gazette them.”

In what appears as a move to avert a diplomatic row, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) yesterday conceded seven slots to Air Peace.

It has also granted the Nigerian carrier the permit to fly directly to Dubai instead of Sharjah Airport, a source said.

But, the government said it was unaware of alleged stoppage of Nigerians by the UAE from entering any part of the Emirates through other carriers.

According to sources, the General Civil Aviation Authority sent a December 13t, 2021 letter to Air Peace.

Although the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs was not copied in breach of protocol, the Federal Government was said to have received the letter.

A source said: “As at 7pm, the General Civil Aviation Authority of the UAE has written to Air Peace to come and take its slots. Unlike before, the UAE conceded seven slots to the Nigerian carrier.

“In the letter, the UAE said Air Peace can fly directly to Dubai and not Sharjah Airport. This is the latest on the development.

“Even though they did not follow the right diplomatic channel by writing the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs which will in turn inform the Aviation Minister, this is still a positive development.”

Asked if the UAE has stopped other carriers from conveying Nigerians to Dubai, the source said: “This is in the realm of rumours. I don’t think it is true. No official communication banning Nigerians from entering Dubai through other carriers. If anybody has such a directive, let him or her produce it. It will be in gross violation of international civil aviation regulations.
“The Federal Government got no such information at the diplomatic or official level. I think with the latest concessions, the UAE was trying to avoid a diplomatic row with Nigeria. We also do not want any row with the UAE.”

Prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi has said declaration of bandits to terrorists won’t change anything.

WITHIN NIGERIA had reported that Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal high court in Abuja declared the activists of two bandits groups, Yan Bindiga and Yan Ta’adda as acts of terrorism.

In a statement by Malam Tukur Mamu, the Dan-Iyan Fika and Media Consultant to Sheikh Gumi, the Muslim scholar said: “I think the Federal Government has succumbed to media blackmail by a section of the country. It will not have any practical value because even before the declaration they are being fought and treated as terrorists.”

“So it’s just a nomenclature which I believe will not change the dynamics on ground.

“If you can remember IPOB was also declared a terrorist organisation, the declaration was even backed by the order of the Court but as you can see even the international community did not recognise FG’s declaration of IPOB. So it has failed to be effective or to achieve the desired results.”

“They have not been ban from travelling to other countries while their citizenship remains intact, it has not been denounced. So what type of declaration is that?

“I sincerely hope that Nigerians will not take the herdsmen as terrorists but should regard the criminality of the few among them against innocent people as acts of terrorism just as we see IPOB and their attacks on security agencies and other northern citizens as acts of terrorism. Very few herdsmen are bandits if you go through their population.”

An American vlogger, Sabbatical has described the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos as “extremely corruption.”

Real name Tommy El Forastero, he said the facility and the activities going on perfectly detail corruption.

Sabbatical tours the world and shares experience with followers. He lamented how airport staff requested money at different points.

Forastero posted the video he made within the airport on his YouTube page.

“I have been around the world and I have never seen anything like this. I mean, it’s extremely corrupt. Picture corruption.

“The Nigerian airport, the Lagos airport is that very definition of corruption that would pop up in a dictionary. Literally everywhere”, he said.

Sabbatical looked worn out and was sweating which again confirms the minimal cooling system at the airport.

Nigerians and foreigners repeatedly complain they get hot, while having to endure workers that beg for money using delay tactics.

The criticism by Sabbatical came weeks after another American, Alina Oliver accused the workers of graft.

PoliticsFG approves reconstruction of Lagos-Badagry expressway, 20 others by NNPC by yashau(op): 7:20am On Oct 28, 2021
The Federal Government has approved the reconstruction of the collapsed Lagos-Badagry expressway and 20 other federal roads to the newly incorporated Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited.

This was made known by the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, while briefing journalists after the weekly virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which was presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, on Wednesday at the State House, Abuja.

Fashola said the approval which was given at the FEC meeting, would see NNPC take over the reconstruction of 1,804.6 kilometres-long 21 federal roads in critical conditions across the 6 geopolitical zones of the country at a whopping sum of N621.2 billion.
What the Minister of Works and Housing is saying
The minister said it was being executed via a strategic intervention under the Federal Government Road Infrastructure and Refreshment Tax Credit Scheme.

He noted that 9 of the selected projects are in North-central, 3 in North-east, 2 in North-west, 2 in South-east, 3 in South-south, and 2 in South-west.
Fashola said that In July, FEC approved the award of a contract to Dangote Industries for the construction of 5 roads totalling 274.9 kilometres at the cost of N309.9 billion, advanced by the company as tax credit

He said, ‘’Earlier this year, there were five other roads – the Kaduna Western bypass, the Lekki Port road, the road from Shagamu through Papalanto, and a couple of others, and there is one road in Maiduguri. That was about N320 billion.

“So today (Wednesday), we have another player. We have all the interested players who are still showing interest, but we haven’t concluded. We have another player who has shown interest and commitment to deploy taxes. It’s the government corporation known as NNPC.

So, NNPC has identified 21 roads that it wants to deploy. Now, the instructive thing about this is that this initiative helps the government to achieve many things, including ministerial mandates three and four, which we discussed at the last retreat. Ministerial mandates three and four, if you recall, was energy sufficiency, electric power and petroleum energy distribution across the country.

“Of course, petroleum energy distribution is being impacted positively and negatively, as the case may be the transport infrastructure which is the ministerial mandate four. NNPC has sought and the council has approved today that NNPC deploys tax resources to 21 roads, covering a total distance of 1,804.6 kilometres across the six geopolitical zones.

“Out of those 21 roads, nine are in North Central, particularly Niger state. The reason is that Niger State is a major storage centre for NNPC. NNPC is doing this to facilitate the total distribution across the country.”

Fashola assured that in the South-West, the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, the Agabara junction, Ibadan to Ilorin (Oyo-Ogbomoso section) will be fixed.

On the South-East roads, the minister said you have Aba-Ikot Ekpene in Abia and Akwa Ibom States, then the Umuahia to Ikwuamo, to Ikot Ekpene road and so on and so forth.

Going further he said, “In the North-West, it is Gada Zaima-Zuru-Gamji road, and also Zaria-Funtau-Gusau-Sokoto road. In the North-East, it is Cham, Bali Serti and Gombe-Biu road.”

What you should know
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari signed Executive Order 7, which allows the private sector to deploy in advance the taxes they would pay for infrastructure development especially road construction under the Federal Government Road Infrastructure and Refreshment Tax Credit Scheme.
Recall that earlier in May 2021, the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, urged the Federal Government to provide adequate funding for the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, saying the state government has taken a leap to start a 10-lanes highway on the international gateway and has already done almost 18 kilometers of the road.

PoliticsI Am ‘Unrepentant PDP Leader,’ Fayose Says After Visit To Tinubu by yashau(op): 12:56pm On Oct 13, 2021
Former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose has said his visit to former governor of Lagos State and a leader in the ruling All Progressives Congress Bola Tinubu was on health ground.

Tinubu returned to Nigeria earlier this month after spending weeks in London recovering from a knee surgery.

Fayose, a member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party, visited Tinubu at his Bourdillon, Ikoyi, residence on Tuesday. Many thought his visit could be in connection with Tinubu’s rumoured ambition to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

The PDP chief, however, cleared the air about his visit to the APC leader.

“To those negative political analysts, this visit notwithstanding, I remain an unrepentant PDP leader and key stakeholder,” Fayose said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

He suggested that despite their political differences, Tinubu was still deserving of his visit, noting that “politics should be about love for each other.”

“Health issues know no political party and in this part of the world, we seldom celebrate people when they are alive,” Fayose said. “Rather, we like to sign condolence registers. To me, that is not the best way to live.”

Fayose, perhaps, is the highest-profile opposition figure whose visit to the APC leader has been made public.
In February, the former Ekiti governor said he will never defect to the APC, insisting that the ruling party has nothing to offer him.

However, in 2009, he supported the APC governorship candidate in the state, Kayode Fayemi, against Segun One who was the candidate of the PDP.

“I’m over 60. What do I want to become? I was governor at 42. All the opportunities anybody could offer, PDP offered me,” Fayose said on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics in February.

“I will not go to APC. What is missing? Some people choose to be dishonourable. Not me. I will rather go and be the husband of my wife, Feyisetan Fayose, and my son.”

In an exclusive interview with Daily Independent in April, Fayose said he rejected overtures by Tinubu for him to join APC.

““In 2009, I supported Governor (Kayode) Fayemi openly. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu did everything, asking me to come to APC but I said no,” he told Daily Independent.

PoliticsLagos Blue, Red Rail Lines Will Be Ready In 2023 1st Quarter by yashau(op): 7:30am On Sep 30, 2021
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, promised that Lagos blue and red rail lines would commence operation between the last quarter of 2022 and first quarter of 2023.

The Governor, who disclosed this, after inspecting the on-going blue and red line projects, said his administration is committed to realising the rail projects in the last two years.

He said work has commenced extensively on the red rail line at the Ikeja iconic station, which is the meeting point of the project, adding that the construction work has really progressed in Ikeja, the biggest station outside the Marina station.

It would be recalled that the blue line from Okokomaiko in Lagos West on Lagos-Badagry Expressway after Lagos State University (LASU) is to come from Okokomaiko to Mile 2 through Orile, elevated to pass the National Arts Theatre, then sea crossing and finally end up in Marina was started by Babatunde Fashola’s administration in 2010, while the Red Rail Line, which is on Lagos Central District into Lagos West, was conceived by Sanwo-Olu-led administration.
The governor said construction work is going on as scheduled, and that the iconic Marina Station is unique, because it is an elevated station for multipurpose to harbour bus station and ferry services.

He said: “They have started the decking. There is also a pedestrian walk for people with disabilities. Underneath, there will be a bus station for BRT for First and the Last lines buses. There is also ferry services adjourning the Marina Station, which will move up to the State House. That is the summary of the massive architecture that is going on.

“We are excited because we can see the number of Nigerians that are working here. I think here in Marina alone, we have over 1000 workers. Part of the things we have been telling our contractors is that we need to have proper skill transfer.

“So, we will be working with LASU, University of Lagos and Yaba College of Technology, where we will be having engineering students that will have a feel of what rail construction is all about. They will come and see the bridge, road and rail construction as a learning tool, so that they can see how these are being done. Thus, our contractors can take them as interns. There are few hiccups, but we believe we will surmount them. Therefore, we are still on track. Last quarter of 2022, by the grace of God or first quarter 2023, you begin to see your trains moving on these two corridors.”

The Annual State Viability Index (ASVI) published by Economic Confidential has revealed some Nigerian states that can survive without the monthly federal allocations.

According to The Cable, the ASVI measured the viability index of states using each state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) as a percentage of its federal accounts allocation for the year.

Lagos, Rivers, Ogun, Kaduna, Oyo and Anambra can survive without federal allocation.
Legit.ng gathers that states with an IGR of less than 10% of their total receipts from the federal allocations are considered insolvent. Below are states listed as those that can survive without federal allocation: Lagos Rivers Ogun Kaduna Oyo Anambra

According to the report, states listed here can survive without federal allocation because they generate high revenues locally.

For instance, Lagos in 2020 collected a federal allocation of N299 billion but generated N418 billion locally (139%) Also, Rivers state which generated an IGR of N117 billion collected N198 billion as federal allocation (58%).

As for Ogun, the southwestern state made N50 billion IGR compared to the federal allocation of N88 billion (57%) it received.

Kaduna state generated N50 billion locally while its federal allocation was N124 billion (40%).

Oyo state with an IGR of N38 billion got N127 billion as federal allocation (29.7%) while

Anambra generated N28 billion compared to its federal allocation of N94 billion (29.6%).

Gumi who has been visiting bandits in the forest in an attempt to negotiate a peace deal with them disclosed this in a Facebook post titled’ ‘Zamfara: The Flaring Of Crisis’ on Monday.

An Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has again asked Nigerian government to grant amnesty to bandits like it gave to Niger Delta militants.
According to the cleric, military action against criminal herdsmen and bandits will not solve the security challenge, but “will only worsen the situation”.

He said no military, especially of a poor economy can win guerrilla warfare, citing the recent victory of the Taliban in Afghanistan as an example.

The post read, “ZAMFARA: THE FLARING OF CRISIS

“ … Every time they kindle the fire of war, Allah doth extinguish it; but they (ever) strive to do mischief on earth. And Allah loveth not those who do mischief.”

He wrote, “Zamfara state is unique in many aspects. In early 2000 AD the state ignited a wildfire of states constitutional amendments that accommodated the application of sharia law beyond personal law (i.e. marriages, divorce, and inheritance) to include the Islamic criminal law. It was well received by the local populace with eleven other northern states adopting it. However, it goes without saying that the international community ruled by leaders that are promoting sodomy and lesbianism in the garment of secularism were at the forefront of fighting it. In a short time, it became political and fizzled away.

“If such shariah implementation move had concentrated in literacy and economic empowerment the kind of which we see in Saudi Arabia, with its rich resources, Zamfara would have become a shining example of the blend of a religiously modern state proud of its development and modesty. Unfortunately, it turned out to become the den of criminality and instability in the region.

“From the blues, in 2009 cattle rustling became rampant. Most of the cattle rustled were headed to the south in trailers where they are sold and slaughtered. This massive movement of rustled cattle greatly reduced their population. Most of the rustling first affected the rural herdsmen and it became more elaborate in the north-western region.

“Herdsmen were left with only one of three options. To join the rustlers or pay tribute to rustlers for protection or lose their cattle. In 2014, the military ‘intervention’ in the Birnin-Gwari Forest to fight cattle rustling changed the headsmen into a resistance movement as many innocent Fulani Ruga settlements were murdered, men, women, and children in hundreds.

“By 2015, banditry has replaced cattle raring that is becoming nearly impossible. Drugs were introduced into the herdsmen that are known to be illiterates or semi-illiterates. The reaction of the town local vigilantes (a natural reaction to any communal aggression in self-defence) pitched the herdsman against the local rural helmets, villages, and adjacent towns to the forests as they are lynched and maimed when whenever they enter markets. Therefore, everybody became an enemy and a target. Fulanis and other tribes, Muslims and non-Muslims were equally kidnapped for a ransom most of which goes to buying weapons.

“Profiling of Fulani herdsmen became another motivative factor of more resistance and more kidnappings which has now led to their metamorphosis into the monster the nation is facing today.

“We should also know that because of their educational status and lack of an effective unified leadership they have faced untold hardship at the hands of authorities where they were extorted and stereotyped. It has been imprinted in the psyche of nomadic pastoralists that the authorities and their town dwellers are ‘evil people’ that should be resisted because they have no place to secure justice for their cases no matter how innocent they may be.

“With their acquisition of weapons, they realized how easy it became to be masters of their abode the forest, where no authority can venture into. This has emboldened them to further attack people for more ransoms to sustain their newfound reality.

“Now with the prodding of the government to take more military actions of an already ugly situation whereby they were left to amass weapons, a huge military budget that is almost draining the economy to a standstill in the purchase of fighter aircrafts and conducting military operations in the region has become to the authorities in their calculations a necessity.

“Unfortunately, this is no solution or wisdom. When you don’t have the monopoly of the instruments of violence, then dialogue has the monopoly of resolving the conflict. This is what the UN is all about. i.e., Roundtable resolution of conflicts. What we are seeing is more than just criminals and criminality, yes it may have started as such but like any conflict, it is dynamic.

“The danger we face now is ideological demagogues changing the narrative. They are trying hard to infiltrate the herdsmen. And we know their objectives. They want to destroy all modern governments by fighting the military and now in the recent cajoling of local populations, they have tormented before to join them in the struggle.

“Let us face the reality, these herdsmen are going nowhere, and they are already in battle gear, and we know our Military very well, so before things get messy, we need cold brains to handle this delicate situation. Its commonsense that if you allow your neighbors to be your enemy, you are already conquered. Because they can easily be used against you by other forces as we see now the herdsmen are ultimately used to destabilize the region, pauperize and even depopulate it.

“Military actions in the past have worsen the situation stimulating herdsmen resistance. Any more action will push them closer to religious fanaticism. It gives them protection from discrediting them as thieves and also reinforce their mobilization of gullible young unemployed youth as we saw with BH.

“I have met many of the bandit leaders to see a way out of this gridlock. I have talked to the political class and security agents. Except for an exception, most state governors want a peaceful resolution of the conflict. The Police and other security outfits have also realized the enormity of the problem. But, unfortunately, the presidency for what appears to be political gullibility and the military for budgetary reasons as they are the most beneficiary of conflicts of this nature doesn’t seem to be on the same page.

“This conflict can be resolved by active engagement of the government with the agitators. Just as we saw how ENDSARS agitation was swiftly managed after an initial scandalous failed military confrontation, was peacefully resolved by the government, likewise, the herdsmen crisis can be.

“Just as we had the Niger Delta conflict resolved with an amnesty which comes with reconciliation, reparation, and rehabilitation packages, so will the herdsmen crisis be resolved. In fact, there is a need for a Marshal plan to educate the nomadic pastoralist so that no citizen is left behind.

“These measures I enumerated are cheaper, easier, and lasting than the kinetic approach which is now taking place. No military especially of a poor economy can win guerrilla warfare. The recent victory of the Taliban in Afghanistan is a factual warning for those that contemplate.

“Lastly, I pay tribute to my late relative, Private Sanusi Salisu Gumi, who lost his life with 10 other colleagues in an ambush by Bandits in Zamfara forest in November 2019. We learned about his death when an acquaintance recognized his body in the Gusau mortuary. Rahmatullah Alaihi and all those who died defending us. Amin.”
