Kabiru Faskari, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says Kabir Masari is the running mate to Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the party, for the 2023 elections. Faskari said this on Friday in an interview with Channels Television. Masari was the party’s welfare secretary when Adams Oshiomhole, former Edo governor, was national chairman of the party. “Ibrahim Kabiru Masari is our vice-presidential nominee. He was the welfare secretary of the APC under Oshiomhole. He is a well-known politician. His name has been submitted,” the APC chieftain said. “He qualifies as veteran in terms of politics because he joined politics from the onset. He began as a member of the PDP. He is young. He represents the youths and grounded in politics because he was even a national official of the APC and he is quite close with the presidential candidate. “He has been with him for a very long time. I believe it is a very informed decision to put out his name.” Meanwhile, according to a statement by Tunde Rahman of the Tinubu campaign office on Friday, the APC presidential candidate has submitted his nomination form to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). As stipulated by the electoral law and Independent National Electoral Commission guidelines and timetable, the standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress, HE Asíwájú Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has returned his duly completed nomination forms to INEC,” the statement reads. “The forms were returned on Wednesday June 15, two days ahead of schedule. “We wish to reiterate that HE Asíwájú Tinubu now stands ready to contest the February 25, 2023 presidential election to deliver progressive good governance to our people.” The development comes amid the June 17 deadline by INEC for political parties to submit the list of their candidates for the 2023 general election https://www.thecable.ng/just-in-kabir-masari-is-tinubus-running-mate-says-apc-chieftain/amp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUXhY_ncZaQ

Popular Nigerian singer, 2Baba has opined in a recent post he made online claiming that the Abacha looted funds were kept away from thieving hands. The singer stated this in an Instagram story in the context of corruption which has become a rampant thing in Nigeria at the moment. 2Baba stated in his argument that the looted fund might actually not be stolen by the former Head of State but kept away from thieving hands. He went ahead to back his opinion claiming that looted funds are hardly ever recovered but the Abacha loots seem to be different as the country recovers a new one almost all the time. https://www.withinnigeria.com/entertainment/2022/04/01/if-to-say-abacha-thief-this-money-we-for-no-see-am-recover-2baba-opines/

Fresh facts have emerged on how suspended super cop and former Commander of the Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari; as well as his deputy, ACP Sunday Ubua, allegedly received a combined N4.2bn from their separate bank accounts. The details are part of a report sent to the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, by the NDLEA. According to the drug enforcement agency, not less than N1.4bn passed through Kyari’s account while he was commander of the IRT. However, Kyari’s deputy, Ubua, may have received far more than him as not less than N2.8bn was traced to his eight bank accounts. According to investigations, Ubua allegedly received a lump sum of N2.664bn on August 15, 2019. The NDLEA is now working on the assumption that the sums traced to Kyari and his deputy may be connected to the sale of some illicit substances including Tramadol worth N3bn. A source said, “You will recall that the NDLEA is investigating an allegation that Kyari and his team seized a large consignment of tramadol in a warehouse at Amuwo Odofin in Lagos. The consignment was worth about N3bn. “The IRT under Kyari’s command seized these drugs and they are believed to have sold the consignment to a cartel afterwards. It was around the time of this seizure that Kyari’s deputy received a deposit of N2.664bn in his personal bank account. Out of this money, he purchased FBN Insurance shares worth about N100m.” NDLEA seeks AGF’s approval to confiscate Kyari’s assets, bank accounts Meanwhile, the NDLEA has written a letter to the AGF seeking his approval for the confiscation of properties and assets belonging to the once revered super cop. It was gathered that the NDLEA’s request was dispatched to the justice minister last week following the March 7 arraignment of Kyari and his men for dealing in cocaine. Kyari is facing eight counts of conspiracy, obstruction, and dealing in cocaine, and other related offences at the Federal High Court, Abuja. The other defendants in the charge marked FHC/ABJ/57/2022, are four members of the IRT, Ubua, Bawa James, Simon Agirigba and John Nuhu. Two other suspects arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne, were also listed as defendants. Kyari, has been indicted in the United States for alleged involvement in a $1.1m scam carried out by a notorious Internet scammer, Ramon Abass, a.ka. Hushpuppi was suspended by the police last July. A source said the drug agency’s request is receiving the AGF’s attention, noting that Malami was in the process of approving the seizure of the embattled DCP’s assets and property to ensure he did not benefit from the proceeds of crime. Our correspondent gathered that the ex-IRT commander’s assets that will be confiscated include cash and money in bank accounts, vehicles, real estate, notably hotels, residential and commercial buildings; personal effects such as wristwatches, jewellery and other valuable possessions. The PUNCH learnt that the AGF’s approval was required by the NDLEA to seize a suspect’s property pending conviction by the court NDLEA traces N4.2bn to Abba Kyari, co-accused’s accounts https://punchng.com/ndlea-traces-n4-2bn-to-abba-kyarico-accuseds-accounts/

Nigeria’s federal government Thursfay put the country’s total installed electricity capacity at 18, 000 megawatts while it generates 8,000 megawatts daily for consumers’ consumption. This is just as it attributed the current erratic power supply across the country to the low water level in hydro dams in the country. Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, who spoke while featuring at a weekly news briefing organised by the Presidential Media Team at the State House, Abuja, declared that the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) had been delivering grid, captive, and embedded power to the tune of almost 8,000mw, as against the speculated 4,000mw. He stressed that the nation has an installed capacity of almost 18,000mw saying “I’d like you also to take away that we deliver 8,000mw of electricity daily through a combination of Grid, Embedded and Industrial Captive supply of Electricity (not 4,000MW as is frequently reported), much of this capacity added during the life of this administration. These are not my figures; this was an industry study conducted by KPMG recently.” Aliyu said much of the improvement to 8,000mw occurred under the Buhari’s administration, “through positive industrial policies driving captive industrial power investment and improved grid stability although we continue and must continue to work to improve the performance of the grid.” The minister explained that these come from 28 grid power plants with installed capacity of 13,000mw and operational daily capacities of around 5,000mw, with the plants located at Egbin, Ughelli, Geregu, Kainji. “We have 266 captive power plants (mainly industrial > 1MW) with installed capacities of 4,000mw and daily operational capacities of around 2,500mw. These include the Dangote Cement Capacities in Obajana Ibese (400MW), and NLNG’s Bonny Island Power Plant (240MW) amongst others. “These are never captured in the statistics but are part of the NESI and form our industrial load for jobs. In the future many of these plants will integrate to the grid, in fact some of them supply power to communities they occupy. “There are also 16 embedded power plants with 549mw of installed capacities and 190mw of daily operational capacity. “From the KPMG rebasing analysis above it is clear that the NESI needs to make better utilisation of particularly the grid based power plants. The only way this can happen is through the improvement of the grid. The federal government has many key grid initiatives with more than N125.2 billion budgeted between 2015 to 2021 for TCN and development.” He said the federal government had secured and was executing up to $4 billion in investments in grid to ensure improved power supply. Aliyu, however, assured that the government was working on more gas supply contracts for the power sector. The minister who blamed the erratic power supply currently being experienced in Abuja and some states on low water level in the hydro dams, said the government was doing everything possible to ensure optimum supply of gas to ensure quick restoration of power. On the national metering programme, he said the metering gaps were being reduced with the roll out of one million meters in the first phase of the initiative while awaiting four million others under the second phase. He, however, cautioned distribution companies (Discos) involved in selling metres to desist from such act, pointing out that meter procurement was free. The minister while speaking on the metering policy of the government emphasises that, “meters are provided free”. “We have said this times without numbers that these meters are free. They are instruments for generating money, how can we be selling meter,” he added. On the Siemens Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), the minister noted that, “government will bring in an additional $2 billion or more to the Transmission Grid.” He disclosed that contracts have been awarded for the construction of 10 transformers and 10 mobile power substations through Siemens which will be delivered soon “We are working tirelessly to ensure that all of these investments translate to incremental delivered power. “There are 135 ongoing projects for transmission lines, substations and other associated grid infrastructure. TCN has completed 30 key Substation Projects and 12 important transmission lines,” he added. He listed other efforts to increase power supply to include Increase energy mix to improve energy security. “We will complete the Zungeru Hydro plant, the Katsina Wind plant, Kashimbila Hydro as well as ensure the challenges with Gurara are permanently resolved (partnering with the Ministry of Water). We are also working to resolve issues that have prevented large On-grid Solar from taking off in Nigeria. “We are re-tooling the System Operator for improved dispatch optimization based on technologies and improved maintenance schedule alignments across generators. “We are on the path to resolving the financial challenges in the sector and we will continue to provide robust and clear regulation to keep participants such as DISCOs, GENCOs and even TCN in line to deliver for Nigerians.” Nigeria’s Installed Electricity Capacity Stands at 18,000mw, Generates 8,000mw Daily
