Abuja – Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday inaugurated 150 patrol cars donated to Nigerian Police by Aliko Dangote Foundation and called on major corporate organisations to emulate Dangote.

The Vice President stated that the gesture would boost security infrastructure in the country.
He said “I want to congratulate the Inspector General of Police on this latest donation of 150 cars.
“I think this is going to be a great boost to our efforts at keeping security all over the country.
“I would also like to call on others, especially major corporate organisations that whatever cooperation and collaboration we can get from them will be greatly appreciated.
“We wish they could follow the very great example that has been set today by Dangote Group and Alhaji Aliko Dangote.”
According to the vice president, besides the positive donation, the government and the people of Nigeria have benefitted greatly from the corporate social responsibility of Dangote Group.
Osinbajo recalled that the group was responsible for the building of 54km Obajana-Kabba Road, several health centres in Benue, Ogun and other parts of the country, as well as schools.
He said government was aware of the micro credit scheme the foundation gave to no fewer than 40,000 citizens, noting that the patrol vehicles were directed at security of the country.
He noted that there was a lot of talk about public-private cooperation and participation but the Aliko Foundation was one that followed up with implementation.
He observed that by the group’s demonstration of goodwill to the society, it showed the group was not just interested in making profit and creating jobs, but helping humanity.
The Vice President commended the foundation for being concerned and socially-conscious, adding that
the group could have very easily chosen what else to do with its resources.
The Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, said the donation to police, being the highest from a private agency, was to support the police.
He said the donation was important in view of the present security challenges in the country, adding that the group spent N10 billion annually in interventions in education, healthcare and other economic activities nationwide.
“We are deepening our intervention in security by donating these automatic and Nigerian-assembled cars,’’ Dangote stated as he called on other corporate groups to follow suit.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, thanked Dangote for the gesture, saying it would greatly assist the force toward fulfilling its mandate of protecting lives and property.
The IG pledged to put the vehicles to effective use in efforts to fight crime and criminality and gave the assurance that the current security challenges such as herdsmen/farmers conflicts, insurgency, militancy, armed robbery and killings would soon end.
He said “the President and Commander-in-Chief has mandated me to redouble the police crime prevention and detection strategies to ensure that the situation is strictly brought under control.
“I can comfortably assure that our efforts in crime prevention are already yielding the desired results.
“In that regard and incompliance with the directive, commissioners of police and their supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police have been directed to ensure immediate end to the challenges by deploying the arsenal at their disposal.’’
The IG cautioned that as the 2019 elections approached, politicians and citizens must act within the confines of the law.
He noted that “the use of firearms or arming of thugs for political or other unlawful activities are criminal in nature and anybody no matter how highly placed found to be involved will be arrested and prosecuted.’’
Chief Diana Cheng, the Chairman of CIG Motors, makers of the Gac 3 salon cars, thanked the Dangote Group for choosing its brand of cars, adding that it showed collaboration between Chinese and Nigerian investors.
She acknowledged that the gesture would assist the country to solve its security challenges.(NAN)

PoliticsBreaking News:ex-taraba Governor Jolly Nyame Jailed 14 Years by yashau(op): 5:50pm On May 30, 2018
A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has sentenced a former Taraba State governor, Jolly Nyame, to 14 years in prison without an option of fine.
Mr Nyame was found guilty of 27 out of 41 counts of alleged diversion of public funds while he served as governor of Taraba State.
He was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly diverting N1.64 billion while he served as governor between 1999 to 2007.
The judge sentenced the defendant to four different terms in prison, after finding him guilty of receiving gratification, obtaining public funds without due consideration, criminal breach of trust and gratification.
The various sentences include a time of prison for two, five, seven and 14 years respectively.
The judge Adebukola Banjoko however noted that the terms are expected to run concurrently, meaning he would serve 14 years in jail unless the conviction is upturned by a higher court.
In the lengthy judgement that lasted over four hours, the judge narrated how several witnesses brought to court by both parties corroborated the allegation of fraud against the defendant.
The EFCC presented various witnesses who alluded to the fact that Mr Nyame approved the diversion of various funds amounting to over N345 million to a company, Saman global, within five weeks in 2005, among other allegations.
Despite claims by Mr Nyame that he never knew the said company, the court found him guilty of breaching public trust after noting that the ex-governor confirmed approving the memo wherein the order for the transfer of the funds was made.
The court held that Mr Nyame is guilty of over half of the charges.
According to the judge, Adebukola Bankole, the actions of the perpetrators under the watch of the ex-governor can be likened to the story of Alibaba and the 40 thieves

PoliticsMurder Suspects Implicate Saraki, Kwara State Governor, Others by yashau(op): 6:51pm On May 18, 2018
The suspected killers paraded by the Kwara State Police Command in Ilorin last week have named the Senate President, Mr. Bukola Saraki and Kwara State governor, Mr. Abdulfattah Ahmed, as two of the men who ordered them to kill many Kwara State indigenes in Nigeria and abroad.
The suspects, who have been transferred to Abuja for further investigation, SaharaRepoters learned, named the Senate President and Mr. Ahmed in the confessional statements made to the Police.
According to the statements made to the Police, the suspects said they have been on the payroll of the Kwara State Government and Mandate Office of Mr. Saraki.
The leader of the killer squad, the son of Salihu Woru the self-appointed spokesman of Magajis in Ilorin Emirate, is placed on salary Grade Level 16, while his colleagues are on Levels 10 to 15.
The suspects, SaharaReporters gathered, also admitted that they were being paid from the Office of the Senate President. Mr. Saraki, the suspects told the Police, gave them Toyota Corolla cars a few months ago as a way of securing the loyalty ahead of the 2019 elections.
On the list of people marked for execution before the election, they said, are two men, both named Mustapha; Kayode Oyin, Yinka Aluko, Baba Rex, and one Ogunlowo.
A Police source told SaharaReporters that bank statements retrieved from the suspects indicated that they received money on a monthly basis from Mr. Saraki and the Kwara State government. This, added the source, has ensured that most of them have healthy bank balances running into millions of naira.
Following their confession, the Senate President and Mr. Ahmed attempted to pressure the Kwara State Police Commissioner, Mr. Aminu Pai Saleh, using Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mr. Jimoh Mumini, who is said to be very corrupt.
Mr. Pai Saleh was said to have been offered money, which he rejected. Mr. Mumini has been critical of the transfer of the suspects to Abuja, saying that the state government has successfully prosecuted cultists and killers at the State High Court under the penal code.
The Senate President and Mr. Ahmed may soon be invited by the Police. Both men have accused the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, of planning to frame them for murder.

Lagos, Nigeria (CNN)Nigeria's airports, seaports and land borders have been placed on high alert after the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) declared an outbreak of Ebola this week.

Africa's most populous country is taking no chances and Health Minister Isaac Adewole told CNN that people traveling from the Central Africa country where 17 people are suspected to have died from the viral hemorrhagic fever, will undergo temperature screening at all borders of the country.
"We are increasing surveillance on air, sea and land borders for all travelers. Those coming from DRC will be monitored after they have been cleared by health officials at all the ports," Adewole said, adding that this included transit passengers from high-risk countries.
Adewole told CNN the government had reactivated Emergency Operation Centers created during the 2014 Ebola outbreak to prepare for any confirmed cases.
The health minister added that Nigeria was considering sending a team of health workers to the DRC to help contain the outbreak.
Nigeria recorded its first case of Ebola in 2014 after a government official named Patrick Sawyer, who had been infected with the virus from Liberia, collapsed on arrival at the airport in country's biggest city, catching health authorities unaware.
Sawyer, a Liberian-American, died at a hospital and infected several health workers, including Stella Ameyo Adedavoh, a doctor who defied orders to allow him to leave the hospital and saved Nigeria from a mass outbreak in the process.

PoliticsFrom PDP To CNM And ADC — Can Obasanjo's? by yashau(op): 9:46am On May 12, 2018
The name Olusegun Obasanjo resonates deeply with anyone within the geographical boundary of Nigeria and even beyond. A former career soldier who first ruled Nigeria as Head of State between 13 February 1976 and 1 October 1979 before returning as a democratically elected President between 1999 and 2006. Since leaving Aso Rock, 'Baba Iyabo', as he is fondly called by his apostles, has continued to play his game of politics. Somehome, he just manages to always sneak himself into the limelight.
The Nigerian Political space was on a lockdown in February 2015 when Obasanjo publicly tore his membership card of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party with which he had political intercourse for so many years. According to the 'Ebora of Owu' in a statement he sent out the following day, he would "rather tear the PDP membership card than sit down and let Jonathan use PDP and corruption to tear my beloved country apart".
"I have national and International standard to maintain," he had said. "For this reason I’d rather stand alone than be in the same political party with Kashamu”.
Not done yet, the former Military man added" “If there is anything that requires my comment, position or views, I will say it. It is only when you kill me that I will stop doing so."
The former President has indeed kept to his word as he as continuously lent out his voice even when he was not asked to. It will be recalled that he recently wrote a 13-page special press statement, titled 'The Way Out: A Clarion Call for Coalition for Nigeria Movement', in which he stated his disappointment in the administration of President Buhari further and advised him not to seek re-election in 2019.
Obasanjo said: “President Buhari needs a dignified and honourable dismount from the horse. He needs to have time to reflect, refurbish physically and recoup and after appropriate rest, once again, join the stock of Nigerian leaders whose experience, influence, wisdom and outreach can be deployed on the side line for the good of the country. His place in history is already assured. Without impaired health and strain of age, running the affairs of Nigeria is a 25/7 affair, not 24/7.”
“I only appeal to brother Buhari to consider a deserved rest at this point in time and at this age. I continue to wish him robust health to enjoy his retirement from active public service. President Buhari does not necessarily need to heed my advice. But whether or not he heeds it, Nigeria needs to move on and move forward.” He had said in the Press statement.
On February 1, 2018, he then officially registered as a member of the Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM).
“I am happy to be a member of the Coalition for Nigeria Movement which is a movement for good governance. This is the commencement for our popular and grassroots association," he said at the launch.
"The membership will be free to collectively decide on whether it will become a political party and if it decides to transform itself and go into partisan politics, I will cease to be a member.”
Fast forward to today, Nigerians woke up to the news that CNM had fused with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to become a political party.
This was disclosed on Thursday at a world press conference in Abuja where CNM Coordinator Olagunsoye Oyinlola explained the move thus: “We have said it before and we are stating it here again that the current state of despair and despondency in our dear country is an ill wind. It is foreboding and can only lead to a conflagration.
"Between January when CNM was formed and now, can we say that the story of Nigeria has changed for the better? Have things not worsened at all levels? You will all recall that in January this year, the Coalition for Nigeria Movement, CNM, was formed by some of us across the country as a political platform to create a new generation of leaders for our country. Between that time and today, a lot of ground has been covered in achieving the set goals. One of such is what we are doing here today — the formal fusing of — our movement into the African Democratic Congress.”
Obasanjo was one of the founding fathers of PDP, a party widely accepted to be at the heart of the country's leadership crisis — and there can be no arguments about this since PDP was in power for 16 straight years, the longest by any political party in the country's history.
Now, can ADC, Obasanjo's new political creation, be trusted? Only time will tell!

PoliticsEx -NSA Dasuki Demands N5bn From Federal Govt For Illegal Detention by yashau(op): 3:20pm On Apr 09, 2018
Former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), has gone to court to demand for payment of N5bn as "general damages and compensation" from the Department of State Service, DSS, for the alleged violation of his fundamental human rights as enshrined under Sections 34(1), 35(1), (4) & (5), 37 & 41(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).”
In a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/263/2018 and filed on March 15, 2018, the former NSA is also begging the court to order his unconditional release from the custody of DSS.
Justice Ahmed Mohammed, has been assigned to hear the case, although no date has been fixed yet for hearing.
It will be recalled that, on October 4, 2016, the Economic Community of West African States court of Justice had ordered the release of Dasuki from the custody of DSS, but the Federal government has failed to obey the order.
In the judgement by ECOWAS court, the Federal Government was also ordered to pay N15m damages to Dasuki as it noted that the continued detention of the former NSA was unlawful and a violation of his right.
