talknafree, if talk na free, how much is action? Just kidding ![]() I personally will put it on the poster. Here is why? When you went to buy the shirt you are wearing now (unless you walk around naked), chances are that you "priced" it right? My point: we are used to "pricing" things, sometimes going waaaay below, in an attempt to get the best deal. If you price, what is wrong with the poster pricing? Nothing, IMHO. That is why I devoted a lot of time to explaining why 10K won't just cut it in my books. By the way, don't forget that there is something called "reverse psychology". Chances are that the guy for 15K probably doesn't even exist. It is an attempt to make you feel bad and come down on your prices. Come on now, you have probably done same yourself. Case in point: Within the last hour or so, I have been chatting back and forth with someone on Facebook in Nigeria who wants a site for his NGO. I tell him the price and guess what his next statement was? (Word-for-word) "wow that's much in naira, what about something less". Even when we know they are getting a bargain, pricing is in our nature. We can't help it ![]() |
Sure, if the price is right, why not? Besides, how better to rub it in than to purposely show your face in their offices after payment has been made? Besides, I learned long time ago that when it comes to money, anything that happens is strictly business and nothing is personal. You make your decisions and I make mine. At the end of the day, we shake hands and move on. Simple.how about this for a possible scenario though? "Yeah, you said others were doing a better/cheaper job? hmm, how come the guy you have now couldn't even do simple flash?" ![]() |
webdezzi: Thanks for the heads up Seun: Thanks for confirming. Just keep us moderator types in the loop, that's all ![]() |
Why this post reminds me of the story of Jesus and the 10 lepers, I have no idea ![]() poster: I am happy your problem is solved. |
zstyle, if you are referring to me then, yes I do ![]() I discovered long time ago that the more I talk (about relevant stuff of course ), the less likely I am going to be asked questions about it. I have this weakness generally for not wanting to go back to repeat myself. Thus, I anticipate future questions in advance and answer them in one fell swoop ![]() |
Well then, as I said up top earlier: If you are about to build such a site, good luck!I await your site's launch ![]() |
yep it does sound credible. However the poster either lacks appreciation for what we do and/or he is purposely setting a low price expectation that way, worse case, you charge 20K. It's allowed. It doesn't mean you have to do it though ![]() Again, my reasons for saying there is a lack of appreciation for what we do: 1) The website would be done under a short timeline 2) For number of pages and insistence on creativity, 10K is too low 3) I don't think the poster realizes that even with the cheapest hosting option, say for the sake of argument, N1K, the web developer will be getting less for actual work 4) Nowhere in this post is anything mentioned with respect to maintenance, whether the poster realizes that he will probably be getting 1 year of hosting tops, etc. 5) I don't think the poster realizes that a website is more than design. There is also the development, a whole other process: validating forms, SEO work, testing for broken links, compatibility on different browsers, etc. I am willing to give the poster a pass on this one. Having said that, unless someone has taken him up on the offer, I say he upgrade his price to get the bigger (and better) fish, who tend to lurk at the bottom of the river, to rise to the top. From experience, an education such as I have given here usually does the trick at least 50% of the time. Honestly, we really need to go beyond being code monkeys and start becoming true professionals who don't just jump at an opportunity for the cash but actually sit back and think of what they are going to do, how they are going to go about doing it and presenting to the client (in a professional way of course) why a certain approach may not necessarily be the best (in this case, pricing). |
webdezzi, Just help he babe out, which ones you no dey ![]() dvonne: I think what webdezzi is trying to say is that your question doesn't make sense. It is not your fault, especially if you aren't a web developer and/or are one but are not up to speed on acronyms, terminologies, etc. For next time, a better way of phrasing this would be to pose it the way you have, less the, "CSS,PHP AND MYSQL" part. Integrating any form of online payment solution is possible. The question is, is it offered in your locale and what the charges are to set one up as well as maybe what percentage do they take in commission for processing your payments, among others. Good luck! |
Granted none of us on here would qualify as instructors in the true sense of the word, I personally don't have any issues with topics raised on here. At any given time, questions are asked, and questions are answered. I guess my point is, it's a good idea and don't misconstrue my point to mean I am discouraging you but, it would have to go beyond what is on here. If you are about to build such a site, good luck! |
Since everyone seems to be chickening out on this (what a disappointment. I had so much faith in some on here. You know who you are), I will add a thing or 2: 1. Is the above code correct? if no, tell us the mistake (please don't post the correction, just tell us) There is more than one mistake, granted it may not be what you are looking for: a) No mysql_close() b) Little or no error checking 2. state the intention of the code To generate random numbers, I presume. 3) Sorry but I don't have time to create databases/tables/run code but I will say this, this line is giving me craw-craw just looking at it: $conCatRand="$randnumb1$randnumb2$randnumb3$randnumb4$randnumb5$randnumb6$randnumb7$randnumb8$randnumb9";Even if it is correct, though I know it's not, I would personally flog whoever came up with this with a koboko soaked in 5 different kinds of pepper, then starched to make it hard. That's all from me on this one. sorry but again, I am a very lazy person and don't see myself running any code ![]() |
Is this spam warning some sort of joke? It is showing up all over the place. If yes, it is imperative you desist otherwise someone might just be losing their posting privileges for at least 96 hours if I have my way, seriously. If not, is this something that was implemented and I am just not aware of it? If yes, send me the link. I will do my own independent research on this too. In the meantime, again, if this is within your control, desist from this or be banned. Thanks, |
I will use some quotes from a scene in the kung fu movie, "Fearless" to explain my stand. N100 to the person who can correctly guess the scene ![]() Each programming language is just that, a language. It could care less which is better than the other. It is us humans who assign the "good" or "bad" label to things including in this instance, programming languages. Each language has its flaws but it is such flaws that help us as programmers better ourselves. Make sense? ![]() |
kulikuli? aaaaah! don't bring back secondary school memories o! LOL. I used to love that stuff ![]() |
This is what you will most likely get for 10K http://www.southsouthnigeria.org/ Maybe you don't mind but to me, I see this, and I run faster than Bolt did during the Olympics, both as a visitor to your site and as a web developer. It wreaks of corruption and 419 IMHO. |
Pardon the assumption and potential for being labelled with all sorts of names but it appears to me that the poster went around town in search of a web developer and having found none he could pay the 10K decided to post on here NL, in hopes that someone will take the bait. poster: no offense but given the price you are willing to pay and the date by which you need it, I think you should consider increasing the pay. By how much? I won't mention what I would charge but 10K just wouldn't cut it for me. As someone has posted earlier, you should probably ask that it be done for free so that some newbie could use it on his portfolio. Let's think about this a bit: 1) What can 10K, in these times get you? 2) Do you think that it costs 10K to learn the art and science of web dev? 3) How much do you think companies in Lagos are paying web developers, on average, per month? 4) Do you think developing a 4 - 7 page website is the equivalent of say, mixing pap and preparing akara? In other words, you think any Obinna, Musa or Babatunde can develop one? Again, rethink your price. Again, if you don't have the money, say so. You might prick someone's heart. On the other hand, maybe you can find say, students at some school who are eager to get their hands wet to do it for free in exchange for you referring them to others. Good luck! |
Firefox comes with hundreds of add-onsFirefox is my pick for the reason stated above granted, I only have 5 or so add-ons which IMHO, are critical to my web development tasks. There is also the web standards thing and its support for CSS3 and of course, its being more secure than IE. Until IE8 comes out and I give it a twirl, it's FF all the way baby! ![]() |
he he webdezzi, Of the 3 things I ended up doing on the site, animation was one of them. The guy kept saying over and over, "I understand your point about animations being distracting but you have to understand, in Nigeria, we like to see things moving on the screen". That pretty much summed it up. At that point, all urge to argue was replaced with laughter and I obliged merely cos of the funny factor, LOL. |
yawa-ti-de, was that client black or white? Smiley cos i totally understand if he/she is white.Actually, he was black and a Nigerian (in Nigeria) at that. As a matter of fact, I have never seen him in my life. It was a referral and the working relationship seems to be going well so far ![]() next thing he called an employee and was like "ngbo this colours dont match?" the fool was like it does sir.ROFLMAO!! What did you expect? Of course, omo had to kiss ass now, which ones? ROFLMAO!! |
Sam_Milla: Thanks for your compliments ![]() have not heard or seen anything related to submitting to search engines hurting your site.My point exactly. I didn't say submitting to search engines but submitting to multiple search engines. Submitting to the 3 you have up there should do just fine. |
I guess I will come in for a few miniutes on this, with respect to clients asking that we say, remove/add stuff here and there. I will use a client from last august: The client, without giving away much, is a highly placed state government official. Out of say 10 things he wanted modified on his site, I only yielded to 3. When I mean not budging on the other 7, I mean, even if he blacklisted my name in that state, I didn't care. My usual response, "with all due respect sir, it won't look good/won't work that way. You hired me not only to develop your site but to offer my expert opinion based on my experience. When I do things, it's not based on how I feel but based on research findings. Neither you nor I might like it but facts remain facts until someone else dispels." Did I feel scared/worried after making such statements? You bet. Guess what though? For those 7 or so things, his response was, "I totally understand and respect your expert advice. Let it be that way." The site still looks the way it did back when I first put it up (of course content is changing out on a regular basis) and he even called me 2 weeks ago to arrange a few more sites. Conclusion: Sometimes, even if it means losing a job or future job, it pays to stand your ground. Of course, how far you want to push it is up to you. Me? I push it as hard as I can baby! ![]() |
that thing almost ruined a nigerian bank's raffle draw last year, i was there and the number the computer kept spitting out followed a particular patternLOL, That is what happens when you hand the job to "pros", "gurus", the cheapest of the cheapest bid, people who are not professionals and/or cronies. |
and i think u shud remove the validation links at the footer when u are done, 99.9% of visitors have no idea what that doesBesides, why are you writing valid xhtml/css code in the first place? Do prove to the world that you can do it or because you want your website to conform to web standards so that it can be accessed/viewed on a majority of devices in a consistent matter. If it's the former, then the link is nothing but a chest-thumping exercise, IMHO. |
Nice! It would be nice to see the photos though - when I click "play", the screen goes dark and I see the white box with the "loading" image. After that, the "show" ends abruptly. Look into it. |
1) For those who are not web developers by profession and don't have the money to pay one, frontpage is a quick and easy way to set up a website 2) For web developers who are new to the game and would like to quickly set up a site, to see how the whole process works, without necessarily knowing what goes on behind the scenes, Frontpage is one of the ways to go. 3) for the non web developer (layman) who, as has been mentioned in a post by cactus, for example, just wants to create websites as a hobby (for example, they might want to set up a website for their family) and not as a livelihood, it wouldn't hurt to not suffer themselves by having the likes of frontpage do the work for them My humble opinion. |
Mind the double posting please. Your other post, 1000% identical to this one has been moved to the recycle bin. Be warned and thanks in advance for taking the aforementioned advice ![]() |
Why is it that, generally speaking, web developer's websites are better looking than at least half the sites they code for clients? Or am I the only one who has noticed this trend? Oya, let's discuss/debate ![]() |
albeit you have only 5 seconds to do so. Come on! at least dem don try ![]() http://gmailblog..com/2009/03/new-in-labs-undo-send.html Thursday, March 19, 2009 3:39 PM |
I didn't see any galleries on the rccg site, or am I missing something? Be that as it may, if there is anything you need to get from my first post, it's this: If you say you are using lightbox for your gallery but yet, there is no reference to lightbox in your code (based on my viewing your source), then you need to start from there. Again, go through the tutorial link I sent you, if not already and get back to me if you have any questions. Step 1 (the foundation) is definitely installing lightbox. Without that, nothing else I say should matter. Good luck! |
