Nigeria as a whole lacks a solid online presence strategy. It is one thing to have a website but another to know why you have that website and how to go about securing the site, managing the site and the site's relationship to other government websites.

Good idea.

Please forgive me when I say this:
I will definitely get to it but due to current workload, it may not be till another month or so.

I will keep you all updated, for shizzle, my nizzles tongue

It has been on a hiatus due to a lack of feedback/audience. Would you like to see it back up and running again? If I get enough responses, I just might fire it back up wink

This has to do with your SEO settings. Go to settings (I believe) and change it to SEO paths. Refresh your page and click one of the products to confirm the SEO urls have taken effect.

Report back with your results...

There is, and shouldn't be, a preferred one. Though I personally prefer JSP for enterprise apps, you need to realized that when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail and is used as such...

bella's site needs to do better on the food photography. Take the salad for example: some of the leaves were brown and it looked a bit dry.

This is why some people who come to me for reviews, advice, etc hate me:

Dude, I think before you even start to ask for a solution, you need to get back to the basics. Start by cleaning up your code:
a) Get rid of the inline styles in your html
b) Try not to use "or die" in your code - makes it vulnerable to hacks
c) Use better naming conventions for your form fields
d) Don't use "echo" to print out what the browser can do for you
e) Clean up the actual database insert workflow code

After you clean up the code, then come back for some help.
Webmasters / Re: A Client Is Forcing Me To Use Asp.net For His Website Project. by yawatide(f): 2:47pm On Jul 31, 2013
No amount of money is worth a damage to my reputation. Even if it were 10K and I knew all the requirements for the site (something OP hasn't alluded to here), I wouldn't take it. I know PHP. Though I have an asp.net book I bought last year for the purpose of learning it (since i figured I am losing potential business), I haven't even gone past the cover page. I personally wouldn't:

1) Take the job
2) Outsource it to someone else (to dangerous, considering you could get the code but not know what it is actually doing)

Obviously, the final choice is on you. My advice would be not to take it. Over time, you are bound to make the N7m doing what you know best, PHP.

I hereby nominate slyrox's post as the post of year! ROFLMAO! LWKMD!!

To answer OP:
Don't take it. Send them to me. With my large family, $2000 per site will go much further for me than for you, a single guy cool

The design is good, though it could use a few corrections. Most of the improvements will come in the actual code, based on "view source". There are also a few typos peppered throughout the site.

Since I tend to weight scores more on the code and functionality side, I will give the site a 7. If you clean up the code, I can upgrade my score to an 8.

Good job overall though.

I don't know this affects the developers' business, considering no names have been mentioned. In fact, I could argue that it could affect their own business

Soooo,

Just in case, when I asked the question, it wasn't to say that there is anything inherently bad in his responses. I just have noticed a trend for a while, that's all.

Can GraphicsPlus put his words a little better? Sure. But that shouldn't take away from his reviews. Take this one for instance. He said it all. I can't even add anything.
Webmasters / Re: What Is Wrong Using Free Template by yawatide(f): 2:20pm On Jul 26, 2013
Sometimes, they also want you to maintain a link in your footer that says it is free and where it came from. The assumption is that someone will like it, contact them and from there, they can get well paying customers due to their generosity.

Some things are indeed free. Some people in our community just like to give back. If you think I am lying, when was the last time you paid to use jQuery or twitter bootstrap or Firebug? I thank God for these guys every day and pray that I too have the opportunity to give back for free.
Webmasters / Re: Website Review by yawatide(f): 4:35pm On Jul 25, 2013
Why is GraphicsPlus ALWAYS the first person to respond to Greenmouse's website review posts? tongue
Webmasters / Re: My First Wordpress Powered Website by yawatide(f): 7:25pm On Jul 24, 2013
1) Are you undertaking these conversions as a public service or for pay? In other words, who is initiating the conversions?

2) The 2 sites you have shown do not match in looks or layout. Is the client okay with the new changes?

3) Always use a CMS for managing the content and not because you want the sites to be responsive - you can always code a responsive site from scratch, or using ready-made frameworks like foundation or twitter bootstrap.
Webmasters / Re: Who Designed This DANA Air Website by yawatide(f): 7:22pm On Jul 24, 2013
he he, at first I actually thought that because of my location, the files were taking too long to come across. Especially after seeing the site on FF, I decided to open on all 4 browsers that I have. I kept on having hope that I would at the very least, see some sort of background color or image.

Na wa o!

Maybe dem don take d money wey dem for use employ better people to do d site, carry am pay compensation to d crash victims tongue

On a serious note, the site is terrible. It won't even pullup on FF and on IE8, all I see is images with blue borders around them. It definitely isn't a site I would trust my account details to.

It would be interesting to know what the web traffic to the site is and how many people actually use this site to reserve and pay for reservations.

Looks good to me, including portfolio. Just a few things to clean up but that's more on the aesthetics side

Observations:
1) "About us" has <--no image--> on it. I take it, it's intentional?

2) Error messages on contact page: Make sure the offending field(s) is/are noted in red. Don't just say, "please fill..." but actually show where the problem is

3) Make your logo clickable

4) Remove the "pricing" page, unless you are purposely targeting a certain demographic and/or you are trying to not deal with certain level of clientele.

5) Don't use inline styles and remove commented out code as well as page level css and js.

Overall, good job!
Webmasters / Re: The Best Bank Website In Nigeria by yawatide(f): 11:17am On Jul 23, 2013
^^^ Of the 2 that you have here, I prefer diamond's - GT's looked more than an architect's site.

In general:
What's up with these 2 banks having very large slider images? Is it a "Nigerian factor" thing, or a "let's see who can create the most effizy thing"? It looks like the designers of these sites spent more time going after effects than the main reason why someone would visit such a site - to log in to do online banking (if a customer) or to sign up for a banking service (if a potential customer).

Webmasters / Re: A Website Designed By One Of My Students For A Client by yawatide(f): 10:15pm On Jul 22, 2013
Layout is good and design is good. He does need to work on his code. In addition to what GraphicsPlus has laid out above, add these to the list:

1) - take advantage of css margins and/or paddings
2) Multiple BRs inside P tags - unnecessary. Put all content inside of P tags. Again, control with margins/paddings
3) If code is commented out, chances are that it's not wanted. Get rid of them to reduce page weight
4) &bull - use ULs and LIs instead
5) Make your paths absolute and not relative
6) I assume includes are used to group global items (header, footer, etc)
