mehn.... we are been disenfranchised here in the east, in one polling units INEC came and told everyone there they came with only 20papers,meaning only 20people can vote, so many people left already.....
So many complains coming in from the eastern part of this country, No INEC officials or security agencies has been spotted in some polling centres, This is so disheartening

The Presidential campaign spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kogi state, Mr. Austin Okai, has been kidnapped by armed thugs.

PoliticsNGR gathered that Okai was abducted on Friday evening and has not been heard from. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has demanded the immediate release of Mr. Okai.

Below is a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Kola Ologbodiyan;

"The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) demands the immediate release of its presidential campaign spokesperson in Kogi state, Mr Austin Okai, who was abducted this evening by armed thugs unleashed by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party also said the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, should immediately disband the checking point in Banda, Lokoja-Abuja highway, where the members of the opposition are being harassed and intimidated.

The PDP says its members, as well as the people of Kogi state, cannot stomach the abduction of Mr Austin Okai as well as the arrest of its members for flimsy reasons by the APC.

PDP cautions that the continued stay in captivity of Kogi state party leaders can spark off crisis in the state.

We urge the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, to immediately step into the matter to forestall a break down of law and order. This is because, if Mr Austin Okai and others are not immediately released by the APC, it would send a very wrong signal to the already agitated youth and lead to a resort to self-help.

The PDP also alerts of the arrest of its ward chairmen in Rivers state by soldiers, particularly in Abua-Odual Local Government Area, ostensibly in compliance with the orders of the Buhari Presidency.

The mass arrest in Rivers is coming on the heels of the clampdown of PDP members in Kano state with the arrest of our party leaders and campaign officials including our Senatorial candidate Ahmed Haruna Bichi and a serving member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Garba Bichi.

The PDP notes that these are two very volatile states and any act that suggests a clampdown by the authorities might lead to vehement resistance by the people and trigger crisis in the state.

We call on Nigerians to note how the Buhari Presidency and the APC are pushing Nigerians to the wall and invite the international community to hold President Buhari directly responsible for these infractions against innocent Nigerians."

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says any underage person caught trying to participate in the electoral process will be arrested, along with their sponsors.

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC Chairman, stated this on Friday in Abuja while briefing stakeholders on the updated preparations of the commission for the rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections slated for Saturday, February 23, 2019.

He stressed that underage voting remains an illegality as the statutory age for voting remains 18.

His words: “Underage voting is an illegality because there is a statutory age for eligibility, for registration as a voter. If on election day, you find anyone that is apparently underage or conclusively, kindly report this to any official of the commission or the security agencies.

“Working with the Inspector General of Police, I said that any underage person caught trying to be accredited or voting on election day will be arrested. Voting is only open to Nigerian citizens who are above the statutory age of 18. It’s an illegality and let me seize this opportunity to warn those who may wish to sponsor underage persons to vote on election day that they will be arrested.

“And the good thing is that in the numerous elections that the commission has undertaken, we have never had a report of incidents of underage voting and we conducted elections into 195 constituencies off-season between the first election we conducted in Kogi State in June 2015, and the last one we conducted in Osun in September last year.”

Barely 48 hours to the Saturday’s rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections, bandits have sacked 10 communities, forcing over 2,000 residents to relocate from their ancestral homes in Batsari Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State.

The affected communities are Tudun Garin-Yara, Kwandatso, Garin Labo, Shigi, Sabon-Garin Dunburan, Garin Dodo, Inwala, Madattai, Sabon-Garin Shigi and Kasai.

Our correspondent who visited Batsari Modern Primary School where the victims, mostly women and children, were relocated, gathered that the crisis started last Sunday in Kasai community but later spread to other nine villages between Monday and Wednesday, rendering thousands of residents homeless.

The attack, which claimed seven lives, including an army captain, also led to the abduction of many women and children who were declared missing after the invasion.

One of the victims, Inatu Labo who could not control her tears while speaking to THISDAY at the camp, said: “We were asleep when the well-armed bandits numbering about hundreds attacked us. They killed some of our villagers and went away with our animals.”

Conducting THISDAY round the 12 classrooms occupied by the displaced persons, the Council Director of Education and Social Services, Kabir Abba Umar, said government had provided some palliatives in form of food items and sleeping materials to the displaced people.

“We have activated the temporary camps with profiling of the affected persons, and health personnel have been deployed to the camp. The local government has provided water tank, mats, blankets and buckets.

“As of yesterday, we registered more than 2,000 Internally Displayed Persons (IDPs) in this temporary camp and more are trooping in today. The displaced persons trek from their ancestral homes, which are about 10 to 15 kilometres away from Batsari.

“The local government area has also directed that provision of other requirements for camp operation should be giving to the displaced persons immediately”, he explained.

I know and I have said it that APC can never win a free and fair election without rough hand tactics. Tinubu is the worst political leader ever and that's why Lagos state indigenous are slaves in their own land. Tinubu is an economic vampire who has almost sucked Lagos to stupor. All the campaigns being mounted against SARAKI should have been directed at TINUBU for his oppressive and brazen stealing in Lagos.
How can any sensible government arrest a candidate on the eve of an election?
The arrest to say the least is an invitation to anarchy. No reasonable people will fold their hands in the face of tyranny. Unfortunately, we have a President whose government has been hijacked by desperadoes who are using state apparatus to oppress and silence the opposition. This oppression must end and I am sure it will end this weekend iJn
