Keep your folders safe in Windows 10 with mindful password protection.

We all have computer files we'd like to keep secret from the world, but not everyone knows how to password protect a folder in Windows 10. Whether you're hiding notes from someone with access to your computer or (hopefully) something less drastic, you're allowed to have some privacy. Fortunately, in Windows 10, you can tuck those unmentionable plans or files in a secret folder that is password protected, and you can do it without buying any additional software. Once you've created a new folder in Windows 10, here's how to password protect it. You can never be too careful when it comes to privacy.

But just to be safe, you should first try this how-to using files that you can afford to lose, just in case the method doesn't work for you. Also, make sure you're keeping some record, somewhere, of the exact password you're using to lock your folder. If you lose the password, your files are gone, and since every computer is different, we can't deduce exactly what went wrong on your end.

[b]Note: Do not use a password with a space, as this may create an issue with the batch file. Also full concentration is required when implementing the steps.

How To Password Protect a Folder in Windows 10

1. Right-click inside the folder where the files you want to protect are located. The folder you want to hide can even be on your desktop.

2. Select "New" from the contextual menu.

3. Click on "Text Document."

4. Hit Enter. It doesn't matter what the file will be named. You can delete this text file once the lockable folder has been made.

5. Double-click the text file to open it.

16. Fill the Locker folder with the items you want to protect.

17. Open the FolderLocker file, because it's time to lock that folder up!

19. Click Enter, and the Folder Locker window will disappear, along with the Locker folder itself! Your secrets are safe!

To unlock the folder, double-click "FolderLocker" to open it.

Enter the password you entered in Step 8, and click Enter.

The Locker folder is back. You can open it to find your hidden files. Repeat Steps 17, 18 and 19 to lock the folder again.

Change Your Default Browser

If you upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or 8, you'll notice that Microsoft Edge is now your default browser, even if Chrome or Firefox was your default before. Edge Browser is a bit faster than Chrome or Firefox, but doesn't provide the level of extensibility that its competitors offer. If you are a Chrome or Firefox user, you'll want to change your default right away.

Speed Up Your Shutdowns[size=12pt][/size]

Though Windows 10 boots very quickly, it can still take a while to shut down or restart. Part of the issue is that the OS waits a long time before exiting any programs you have running.

In some cases, Windows 10 even stops and waits indefinitely for you force close open applications. If you decided to reboot your computer, you probably meant to close that Wordpad window with the readme.txt file open in it. You can speed up your shutdowns by setting Windows 10 to kill processes and applications in short order.

1. Open regedit by hitting Windows + R and typing "regedit" into the box.

2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control.

3. Open WaitToKillServiceTimeout.

4. Set the value to 2000 and click Ok. This is the amount of time, in milliseconds, that Windows waits to kill an unresponsive service. Most sites recommend you set this no lower than 2000 so that the system has some time to shut these processes without causing a problem.

5. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop.

6. Create a String Value and name it WaitToKillAppTimeOut. You can create a string value by right clicking in the right pane and selecting New > String Value.

Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system offers a lot of compelling features, including Cortana and a new Start menu. However, some of its default settings don't provide you with the best performance or usability. From showing file extensions to enabling system protection backups, here are seven things you need to change as soon as you get started with Windows 10 after you've properly set up the operating system.

Enable System Protection / Create a Restore Point

What happens if you install a bad piece of software or a defective driver and your computer starts acting strangely or you can't even boot. You'll want to revert Windows 10 to the previous system restore point, which will turn back the clock on your drivers, programs and settings to a time when the system worked perfectly. However, Windows 10 comes with system protection disabled. If you want to protect yourself -- and you should -- set up restore points following the instructions below.

1. Search for "restore point" in the Windows search box.

2. Launch "Create a restore point" from the results. You should see a list of available drives.

3. Select the system drive and click Configure. The system drive is usually the C: drive and has the word "(System)" written after its volume name.

4. Toggle Restore Settings to "Turn on system protection," set the maximum disk space usage by moving the slider and click Ok. We recommend leaving 2 or 3 percent for restore pints but you may be able to get away with the lowest (1 percent).

5. Click Create so that you create an initial restore point right away.

6. Name the initial restore point when prompted.

If you need to restore from one of these points, you can click the System Restore button on the System Protection tab. If you can't boot, you can hit F8 or Shift + F8 during boot to get to the emergency menu on some computers.

Restarting Windows to install updates, fix a temporary annoyance or add new apps is a pain. Luckily, a simple fix exists that most don’t realize and it doesn’t require you to restart at all. Instead, we’re going to kill Windows Explorer (temporarily) and force it to reboot. Once it does, the computer things it’s been rebooted, and your updates will continue to install as normal.

You’ll find most Google apps on the iOS App Store but none of those would be as deeply integrated as Apple’s own services. Google Photos, for instance, often struggles to upload media in the background. Similarly, you can’t back up your iPhone or data from iOS apps like WhatsApp to Google Drive.

Therefore, if you plan to go all-in on Apple products, you should consider importing your existing data from your Google accounts to them. Apple Photos can replace Google Photos, iCloud instead of Google Drive, and so on.

Unfortunately, there’s no direct channel that allows you to carry out this switch automatically. You’ll have to manually export and import your Google data and you can easily do that with Google’s Takeout tool.

On the Google Takeout website, choose “Google Photos” and “Drive” and hit “Next” to download an archive of your data from them.

Visit the iCloud website on your computer and sign in to your account. Enter the “Photos” tab and click the cloud-like button at the top to import your downloaded pictures and videos.

For iCloud Drive, the steps are identical. Return to the iCloud homepage and head into “iCloud Drive.” Click the import option to upload all the files you’ve grabbed from your Google Drive storage.

Sync Android contacts and calendar with iOS via a Google account

Your iPhone can also fetch your contacts and calendar data from your email provider of choice, like Google.

On Android, to make sure all your contacts and calendar appointments are syncing with your Google account, head into Settings > Accounts. Tap your primary Google email address and touch the “Account sync” option. Switch on “Calendar” and “Contacts.”

In order to retrieve this data on an iPhone, you’ll have to add your Google email address to it. Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts. Select “Add Account” and go through the following instructions to configure your Google account.

Move Android data to iPhone with MobileTrans

Remember i shared earlier that the "downside to the “Move to iOS” app is that it only works during your iPhone’s initialization stages and you will have to reset if you have already set up your iPhone".

In case you are way past your iPhone’s setup stages and can’t afford to reset, you can try a third-party desktop app called MobileTrans.

With MobileTrans, you can sync your Android’s contacts, media, calendar events, and a lot more with your iPhone. Unlike the “Move to iOS” app, however, MobileTrans requires you to plug in both of your devices into a Windows PC or a Macbook.

On the MobileTrans app, once you have connected your phones to your computer, select your Android device in the Source dropdown on the left and your iPhone on the right. Next, pick which content you want to copy to your iPhone and hit the “Start” button. Unlock your iPhone to kick off the transfer.

How to send disappearing photos and videos on WhatsApp

The new feature is easily accessible on iPhone, Android phones, and WhatsApp Web thanks to the new “one-time” icon.

Here's how to broadcast your screen from the sending device, if it's a Windows 10 computer.

I also recommend leaving "Require PIN for pairing" off since you have to grant permission on the receiving computer anyway. You can also decide whether you want your PC to receive projection requests only when it's plugged in.

6. Click Yes when Windows 10 alerts you that another device wants to project to your computer.

The Windows Connect app will launch in its own window. You can drag, resize or maximize the window. Also, if the sending device is a Windows 10 PC and allows it, you can use the keyboard and mouse on the receiving computer to remotely control the sender.
