Hello Gurus in the house. Please if one has a child born in Canada during visit preITA, does one need to put in a LOE for this? bearing in mind that all fees were paid for the birth of the baby.

Secondly we just realised that hubby's passport is expiring in September, we are just about to submit our eAPR, we received ITA in January and it is expiring at the end of the month....what will you advise pelase? I have read that it is better to have the passport renewed before submitting application but considering our time lines we may not be able to renew before submission, what is the disadvantage of submitting an application with a passport that will be expiring in 5months time, also my own passport will be expiring in December, the last time I checked with the passport office they only renew if you have less than 6months left on your passport.

Looking forward to your advise/guidiance. Thanks in advance.

Hello Shinarambo1. Thank you for your insights and enlightenment in terms of career choices. I am guessing your wife is a lawyer by profession. If yes please can you expantiate more on job prospects for foreign trained lawyers after completing the qualifying exams? Reports from foreign trained lawyers haven't been very encouraging. Thanks in advance.

shinarambo1:

Yeah. The fear would always be present cos of uncertainties and the talk about how hard it is to suceed for new immigrants, but once you land and with careful planning, the lines would fall in pleasant places. I worked while my wife only studied for her exams. I remember how people said it was difficult to secure internship and one might have to relocate to northern part of the province to get one...We had faith and God provided a place for her 10 min drive from home... When she got her license, she was able to support the family while I studied for mine too. It's takes time, but with planning, patience and dedication, one would suceed smiley

Hello Dupsyshoo.
Please can you send the sample LOE draft to gbemmy28@yahoo.com. All my efforts at sending you has proved abortive. Thanks in advance.

dupyshoo:
If you are lucky to get PPR before the expiry date of your passport, they won't issue visa on the passport. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months for theme to put the visa.

If your application exceeds 6 months and your passport expires before PPR, you will be given 7 days to submit a new passport. I know this cos we were in the same situation. My husby's passport expired during the processing of our application. We had to submit a new one within 7 days.

My advice is this: apply for a new passport immediately. If you don't get it before submission, use the old one. Once you get the new passport, send the scanned copy of the new one via CSE.

With regard to large deposit from spouse, the spouse will just write a simple LOE that he/she transfered the said amount to support the family's plan to immigrate to Canada. I can send you a draft of what my husby wrote.

Hello Dupsyshoo. Thank you so much for your help and contributions on this forum. I will like to have a draft of the LOE your hubby wrote in support of your application. Is it ok to send you a private message so you can send it to me via email or are you able to post the draft here? Thanks in advance.

Hello boldinc, oohunt, vcole, dupsyshoo.

It seems I am inthe same position as oohunt. Just to clarify, will I need to submit my husband's account statement with the LOE? Just to show his source of funds and to avoid any doubts as to how the funds got to his account? Thanks

boldinc:
Congrats on your ITA and well done for reading up info and answering your own questions!

Like 40manlappy said, the LOE would suffice. All your husband needs to do is send the money to your account and you write an LOE.

All the best!

@ Yinyola Its Peter Lougheed hospital. U cannot get a gynaecologist directly, a general practitioner (GP) will refer u to one. When in Labour its the DR on shift that will attend to u not necessarily the one u r seeing.

Hello Jinny. Congratulations on d safe delivery & new addition. Also Thanks for the update & useful info.pls can you give the details of the hospital & gynaecologist you used in calgary? I sent u a pm, not sure you received it. Thanks in advance.

Hello Ladies I recently had my baby in Calgary, Canada. Before I applied I read nairaland from pg 1 to 20 plus then. Pls let's read the ALL the pages before asking any question.

At the point of Entry the officer just asked my why am in canada, I said Visiting. He asked who?, what I do for a living & other random questions that has nothing to do with my pregnancy, don't think I spent more than 1 minute him.

My bill for Vaginal Delivery

Admittance fee 838,
Hosp fee daily 3673 (For 24 hrs)
Baby's Hosp bill 1080
Obstetrician fee 500
Paediatrician fee 250
Total CAD$6,341

Other Expenses
Birth Certificate long 60
Birth Certificate short 41
Passport photo 25.2
Canadian Passport 107
Nigerian Travel Doc 100
Post to Nig. Embassy to & Fro 40
My baby's KLM ticket 243.5

Please Note: If they had asked me if I was pregnant at the Point of entry I would have said YES. There is no point lieing when u r obviously pregnant. If u r lucky u can meet a good officer.

This bill does not include seeing doc before & after delivery. I posted my bill to give a guideline, bills varies from the city u give birth, the doctor, type of delivery and also if there is complication.

I want to use this opportunity to thank Hotstepper for her assistance when applying for baby's Nigeria document. I wld HV applied for Nigerian Visa or passport for baby BT she explained to me that its not necessary. I should just apply for Emergency Travel Certificate for baby which is cheaper & faster.

If you need further information I will try my best to answer. Goodluck!

Hello everyone. It is like IRCC has changed the some of the steps in completing an express entry application. I started the process sometime in May but not been able to complete it because of my ECA. I just logged in now but noticed the application is no longer listed on my profile and when I tried using my verification code to search, it was coming up with error messages....I have had to start the whole processing of filling all over again and I noticed they are asking more specific questions that were not in the earlier form I started with....pls has anyone experienced this?

Good morning all. Please does nayone know if New Brunswick has got their own occupation list peculiar to them? or do they go with the IRCC general list of approved occupations? I remeber Saks has got their own list which is drawn from the general IRCC list but has to do with peculiar demands in their province. I have checked their website over and over again and it seems they go with the general list...please advise if there is a list peculiar to them and where to view this. Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much Irondome, I appreciate your help. Well understood.
irondome:

Not truthful. You should also be clear on your visit intention, with very little room for doubt.

Assessing dual intent: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/visa/dual.asp

Having two intents – one for temporary residence and one for permanent residence – is legitimate. This section addresses how to apply subsection A22(2) of the IRPA to the decision-making process, and to clarify that the issue of dual intent affects all categories of immigration applications.

A22(2) states “An intention by a foreign national to become a permanent resident does not preclude them from becoming a temporary resident if the officer is satisfied that they will leave Canada by the end of the period authorized for their stay.” Dual intent is present when a foreign national who has applied for permanent residence in Canada also applies to enter Canada for a temporary period as a visitor, worker or student. Dual intent on the part of the applicant is therefore not prima facie grounds for refusal of temporary resident status.
Assessing dual intent

A person’s desire to apply for permanent resident status in Canada may be legitimate. An officer should distinguish between an applicant whose intentions are bona fide and an applicant who has no intention of leaving Canada at the end of their authorized stay if the application for permanent residence is refused.
In assessing bona fide, the individual circumstances of the temporary resident applicant must be examined; refusals of non-bona fide temporary residents may only withstand legal challenge when the refusal is based on the information related to the specific case before an officer.

In assessing an application for temporary residence an officer may also consider factors such as:

the length of time that the client will be spending in Canada;
the means of support;
obligations and ties in the home country; and
compliance with requirements of the IRPA and Regulations applicable to temporary residents (visitors, students and workers).

If an officer has concerns/doubts about the applicant’s bona fide, the applicant must be made aware of these concerns and given an opportunity to respond to them. If an application for temporary residence is not approved, the CIC visa officer will provide the client with a letter explaining why an application has been refused.

Temporary residence status might be refused for several reasons, including:

history of having contravened the conditions of admission on a previous stay in Canada;
lack of or insufficient proof of adequate funds to support oneself while in Canada, and to affect one’s departure from Canada;
medical inadmissibility;
not satisfying the visa officer that the individual will leave Canada at the end of their period of authorized stay.

Thank you for shedding light on it. By goofy am guessing you mean bogus or not truthful in the visit visa application right?
irondome:

No

Creating a profile ain't same as submitting a visa application. Even if you have submitted an application, that should also not be a problem as long as your visit visa application is not goofy

Thanks for your contributions and advise @ dupyshoo & irondome. The problem is I submitted my application since 12th April and my school nasu has been on strike from then till date....not sure of when they will call it off...everything has been stand still even workers salaries have not been paid i heard....I will assess the masters with the relevant body & keep praying the strike is called off before I get ITA.

One other clarification I will like to have is that does one get extra 23 marks if one is coming in under the federal skilled workers programme, which I am through express entry. I got the information below on cic website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/eca-conversion.asp

Points
Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (with spouse) 126
Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (without spouse) 135
Federal Skilled Worker Program factor points (if this applies) 23

Looking forward to your response. God bless
irondome:

You can't use your masters ECA is place of MCC assessment. Try and work with your school to get the necessary documents across.
irondome:

Not for all occupations. Some occupations have specific qualifying/minimum requirements; am pretty sure medical profession is on that list. In her own situation, if she has a minimum of 1 year (or preferrably 1-3 years) experience in another non-regulated occupation, then she could use that experience along side with her MSc without using her MBBS at all. However, if all the skilled experience she has got was as a doctor; then she would have to get her MBBS assessed.
dupyshoo:
You might be able to get away with assessing your MSc. alone as your academic qualification does not have to be the same as your NOC code. However, I am not sure this will apply to Medical Doctors as you can't take up the profession without the required academic qualification.
If you decide to assess your MSc. alone, I will advise you attach your mbbs and a LOE. Make sure you explain that you did not claim point for the MBBS as the ECA is still in process. However, you are practising in your home country as a Medical Doctor based on your yet to be assessed certificate.
I will however advise that you should still try to evaluate your mbbs as you will likely need it to practice in Canada.

Hello house. Thanks for the priceless information and guidiance on this group. I will like to make a quick clarification. Will it be necessary for a medical doctor with a masters degree to assess his masters degree as well as the mbbs (medical degree)? MCC (the body responsible for assessing medical degrees) has confirmed that they do not assess masters or other academic degrees as they a professional body. Will a doctor have to have the masters degree assessed by say WES or IQAS or just stick with the MCC assessment since it appears both assessment will fetch thesame points....Also if the school in Nigeria is taking forever to respond is it OK to go ahead with the assessment of the masters degree which is from a school abroad as this may be faster but I forsee this may not show that the applicant is a doctor (NOC code) as the course is applicable to other disciplines in related fields. Your response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello everyone. please is it possible to get professional qualifications like acca verified? I have enquired from iqas & was told they only deal with academic institutions like universities. I would appreciate it if anyone who has verified a professional certificate can advice. this enquiry is for my sister who also has a degree in accounting. I was wondering if there is a body that assess both degrees & professional certifications. thanks in advance.

Thank you very much.

@Yinyinola,

First be bothered about your skill assessment, once that is done with you can fill your EOI. While filling the EOI, you can add 190 as an option to 189.

To be ahead in points, try and score at least 8point in each band to give you 20points, this will put you ahead.

Spiritualgal, you are welcome.

Hello House. I really appreciate the wealth of information here. Just a few clarifications before I go ahead with EOI.

I am an accounting graduated, ACCA certified with about 9years work experience and below 30yrs. I understand from this thread that accounting is one of the occupations that fills up fast and has yearly quota. Please what is the best way/best chances to go about applying under 189, should I wait for 2016/2017 quota, not sure how fast this gets filled up though, would appreciate your advise. On the flip side, should I just stick to 190? If it is advisable to go 190 route which provinces/states are best please?

I am about to register for English test and get my qualifications assessed. I will like to seek advise from accountants in the house to know which of the 3 accounting assessment bodies is fastest/favourable - (CPA/CA/IPA)? Also considering that all the bodies require English test(academic for ielts) which of the English language tests is advisable, I am ABJ based.

Looking forward to your advise. Thanks and God bless.

Thank you very much vcole. I really appreciate your help. Like I said in my first post my experience in the past 3yrs has been in project management. I have started putting in information to create the profile. Just waiting for hubby's ielts, the earliest dtae he got for the exam is 16th July so hopefully we will be in the pool by end of July.
God bless.

vcole:
your ielts scores are clb level 9 which is more or less great for a principal applicant. evaluating only your masters degree would give you the same points as a first professional degree. so, like i said earlier, write wes to conclude your evaluation without your llb because they would only evaluate it as a bachelors and not as a first professional degree required to practise law and as such that evaluation of your llb would not become useful to you as it gives no extra points and also would not be useful if you choose to apply to the NCA to sit for the bar in canada. so, really its a win win situation to just evaluate your masters alone.
Same goes for your husband, evaluate only his masters degree. it would take a much shorter time frame and would give the same points as the mbbs. it is also cheaper. i would advise you use IQAS for that as they seem to have a shorter time line from recent experiences shared here.
What have your job roles/functions been? in which of them do you have the longest duration? i believe nysc experience can suffice as 1 yr of wrk experience as long as you can show proof of your employment and get a letter of reference from your supervisor.
nothing also prevents your husband from beginning the process of evaluating his mbbs seeing as it takes time and he would eventually need it when he wants to sit for licensing exams from the mcc.
So, evaluate his masters, conclude your wes evaluation, get his ielts and get into the pool with you as a principal applicant.
If his mbbs gets evaluated in good time and you have not got an ITA yet while in the pool, i believe you can delete that profile and create another with him as the PA.
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by yinyinola: 2:00pm On Jun 01, 2016
Again am thinking that we might still have to wait for hubby's assessment of medical credentials if I am the lead applicant so either ways we need to get his medical degree assessed except his masters degree would suffice....what do you think please? Thanks

vcole:

Hello. I will try to answer some of your questions to the best of my ability and hopefully more persons would chip in as well.
As regards the choice of a principal applicant, it simply boils down to who is younger, has the higher educational qualification and scores the highest on ielts. A masters degree and a first professional degree are awarded the same points on the CRS so you both have masters and fpd each. the choice is yours. The mbbs would take 3-6 months to get a completed ECA while the Llb would take about 2-3 weeks with IQAS.
I am not sure...but i think that if the chosen NOC is as a medical doctor, then an ECA for the mbbs would be the ideal.

As regards, NOC. you score maximum points for work experience of 3 yrs and above. However, it has to have been in 1 NOC. so you need to decide which noc you want to use for the EE process.

As for the WES, you can write them and ask them to proceed on your eca process without the bachelors transcript and they would assess just your masters alone which would give you maximum points.
However, you can also visit your uni and help the transcript/verification process along if you really want your bachelors assessed but then it would not be of any added value seeing as wes evaluates llb as bachelors degree.
