Nice videos.. But there is no absolute/definite guideline for settlement for immigrants, when you get there, with time you'll adjust properly.
Videos like this just assist you in understanding the whole process
Yes it's not meant to be an absolute guideline. Just to highlight some key things especially the soft skills and communication bit. Hadn't heard anyone talk about that anywhere before.

Hi Guys, i found some very helpful Youtube videos (hope i'm not breaking a rule) by one Dr Lionel Laroche which is very informative on how we can settle in well once we arrive in Canada as new immigrants. The information is largely similar across the various videos but each one definitely has some learnings for us. I'm sure we can ask questions after watching the videos to our brothers and sisters already in Canada. Cheers!!

For Ghana PCC, visit this link http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/africa/ghana.asp
It will take you to the e-Services Ghana portal where you will ave to register to request for the PCC since you are not in Ghana. Don't know how long it will take but if you were in Ghana it could take as little as 3-days with "facilitation" wink

Hello,

I am trying to get police clearance certificates from Ghana, Nigeria and UAE.

I will visit Force CID in Alagbon this week and try to sort out the Nigerian one while I get someone in Accra to help with the Ghana one.

The problem I have now is the UAE one where I am supposed to submit a set of fingerprints and that I can do it at UAE embassy in Nigeria (Abuja). I saw one address for the UAE embassy in Abuja and found out online that the embassy cannot help. I need help with the best way to get police clearance certificate from UAE especially and any other information about Ghana and Nigeria police certificates.

Please I will appreciate if I get your opinion on this,... I am waiting for WES evaluation to be concluded before I get into the pool, is it too early if I start gathering my documents i.e employer letter, proof of funds, police report etc.?

Thank you for your help, cheers.

Feedback from a number of people is that this does not result in rejection. It is a system error which must be checked and rectified by CIC

eaglemaniac:
Hello everyone,

After submitting my application, i discovered that I uploaded reference letter for job A in the holder provided for job B and that of job B in the holder provided for job A. Please what can I do to correct this? Can this be a reason for rejection?

Please I need your candid advice.

What I would have done in your situation is this cos I have similar. I got admission and as I was preparing to apply for Stud Visa ITA came so I deferred admission from Summer this year to Winter 2018. I am pursuing PR and hopefully it will come before then. Once PR comes no need to apply for student visa and if I decide to pursue school route still, I will request for school to change my status from Int'l student to PR. Your bank account will thank you. What you can do now is defer admission and pursue PR. If by next academic year PR is not in, which I hope and pray not you can commence studies as Int'l student. My 2 kobo.

Osemigho:
Hello everyone,

I am all the way from Canada student visa thread where I contribute my little knowledge . My student visa was approved some days ago, and I have eyes on the focus here too.

1: Do we have any elder in Calgary? I need help with accommodation.

2: In case ITA land before entering Canada, will you advise I apply before going or I should wait and enter there first? I will like to know any advantage(s) or disadvantage(s) of any of these options.

I look forward to replies. Thank you all.

Just checking on your schedule A form and portion which states "if you were outside your country indicate your status". I see CITIZEN in all the fields. Does that imply that Nigeria is not your country?

revlane:
Just one schedule A but I had to print the IMM5669E.pdf form in paper, fill it and scan then upload it.
As for the dates, I had to make it follow from the last date. See attachment.

Hi Ajuju2,
I know I've read on several posts that this mixup of order doesn't matter. But is there any particular order to the numbers that show on the eAPR. I see 1-5 on mine and I just assumed it is in reverse chronological order and uploaded my references in same order from current job to oldest. Or is it just a random arrangement for "all play all"? Seniors in the house can you weigh in on this too. My eAPR is ready for submission today jejely wink

Ajujuju2:
Ok so i just saw a post on another thread and i thought to ask here.
For those of us that have more than one employment reference did you notice the order wasnt stated? As in the chexklist just shows employment 1, 2, 3 etc. I just discovered now that upon submission it actually shows which documents should be uploaded; the submitted doc list actually listed the employment record with specific job titles...
I definitely got them mixed up. Any thing to worry about? Any idea how to go about this??

Thanks Fusion23,
That was helpful!! God bless you ooh

Fusion23:
Nice, I also had offers to Concordia university in alberta and humber college, thank God I was patient .
Schooling is never the same as working you paying money and not earning also the job opportunities are not amazing.

Being optimistic and doing a good research plus good packaging and networking is the key , was talking to an older friend yesterday who went to work, yesterday even thou its public holiday , a contract job in IT he was like missing work is like 500$ per day.

So yes be optimistic but do u self research, its very easy . I got a job in less than one month and had over 6 phone calls as in contacts, thou some said know cos the position was really high all those Deloitte, Accenture looking for 10 years experience i still applied and gave it a shot...like withing three days got a call about an offer in Montreal but they did not go further cos of french

..summary lots of opportunities depending on your field.

Except graduate entry level job, your GP does not matter if you have work experience.

Except may be some specific jobs like google requiring P.HD or M.Sc , 90 percent of IT jobs just want any degree, people just do m.sc and co for immigration purposes. Your Experience is the key. And don't sell your self short

Hi @Fusion23

You touched on some cogent issues in my case with respect to settling down in Canada. My gf is on a PhD in Canny since 2015 and I just got my ITA in May and will be submitting this week. The initial plan was to enter Canada through school after she left. Had admission to Conestoga and was putting visa app together when ITA came so I deferred to Winter 2018 to focus on ITA instead. Hopefully it will be completed by January. So my question relates to your statement about people telling you that you must go to college, Canadian experience etc etc.Was having the discussion with her that if I get PR and the job prospects are good, do I still have to attend college? She says it's non-negotiable and I should go to school and work at the same time. I also happen to be into IT for about 8 years now, have a good number of multivendor network certifications and have good communication skills. From my research I've learnt that the hidden Canadian job market is where the jobs can be found and networking with people is a good way to tap into that market. I've established some contacts in Canada in the IT field with whom I keep in constant touch and who are willing to help out with job referrals when I land. So PR+college+work or PR+work? And also in terms of Degree equivalency do employers/recruiters request for your certificates or the WES equivalency. I had a 3rd Class in Electrical Engineering (I hated the course) so maybe the PG Cert in Canada is a good top up/make up for the degree Your thoughts will be highly appreciated.

Fusion23:
The first question is too see if you qualify, with your msc you are likely to be qualified thou.

The rest of the questions will be your personal research , no one has a crystal ball, I was in your situation too with naija salary.
what motivated me to come to Canada was seeing IT jobs or 60-90K per year and some 60$ per hour on linkedin.

Had not even started processing then, the next is to research more if you have the skills for the job or at least can adapt, look at jobs and line and see the requirements and see if you match also packaging yourself and CV helps too.

The Last is being optimistic , people have opinions , when i came to some people were like go to college , Canadian experience , volunteer , bla bla bla ..but I got what i wanted. Generally if you are good you will get offers , good offers. Unfortunately I do not know more of marketing and project management but do your research if its ITIL or PMP. With God all things are possible , if you hardworking.

And if it is also Nigeria , you can even be more successful...

I'm in Ghana too.I got my PCC immediately I got my ITA and uploaded it in my eAPR. It is a requirement from the onset as there is a section for upload in your CIC account. Don't risk an outright rejection by excluding it. It takes about only two weeks to get it from Police HQ but if you tell them you need it fast track they will ask you to "buy them lunch" and it will be ready for pickup in 3 days max!! wink

Jesuba:
Do you obtain the PCC before receiving an ITA or you just obtain it which hoping to be issued an ITA. Am in Ghana and it seems from the CIC website that one might not need PCC to apply upon invitation but only upon written request from CIC. I realised its clearly required for Nigeria. Can any one please clarify this or if they know some one who obtained PCC from Ghana.
