Keep quite, and have some sense. When you ask such questions on open forum like this. You give your rivals knowledges to attack you. She said she's proudly igbo. And it should end there

SIR:Nigerians are a peculiar people; they are hardly united in seeking the good of the society, rather they sing the same chorus in negative things. What on earth should have made people believe the Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho are the same? The only common denominator between the twain is that they are citizens of the same geographical expression called Nigeria and biologically they are both males. Let us look at it in details.

Kanu is fighting a war woven around the fact that none of “his People” has been president of Nigeria since after the great Nnamdi Azikiwe was governor-general in the early sixties of the last century. If today the chief tenant at Aso Rock is from the Southeast, Kanu’s problems will be over. This is because every position in the public service and most of the polity will be occupied by “our people”. The quick answer to that however is that it does not necessarily need to reach that level before “our people” are in good place. Remember Anyim Pius Anyim-Secretary to the Federal Government during the Jonathan Presidency? The records are there. “Our People” were there without being president.

Now back to Sunday Igboho. His main grouse is that the Fulani who had lived peacefully for decades in areas not their original homes should continue to be good tenants and peaceful neighbours. They should not attempt to confiscate or forcefully take over land and properties that are not their own. Their cattle and other animals should not destroy the lives and properties of their landlords or original owners. They are free to continue with their cultural life creating organic structures but not attempting to take over the land which has been the properties of the host for centuries.

Although there are politicians who pretend otherwise, there are some who know and acknowledge the realities of the Nigeria nation. One spectacular example if Chris Ngige who has been in government for decades, starting from being governor of one of the states Kanu refers to, to the almost pinnacle of the national systems in Abuja. In a recent rebuttal, Ngige reeled out a long number of political, public service positions occupied by respectable south-easterners and where they are doing pretty well. Nobody can contradict that authoritatively. He did not say the Southeast does not deserve to have a president, but he cautioned that the presidency is not the all issue involved in good governance or fair treatment of ethnic groups constituting a country.

Furthermore, while Sunday Igboho was going around, building support, convincing his Yoruba listeners of the need to have a Yoruba nation, Nnamdi Kanu was busy creating cells of discontent, manipulating issues and spreading hate and malice all over the place. And when his enemies had had enough and reacted, he fled the country and with a dual citizenship, literally waged a war against his homeland from abroad.

Unfortunately, many people buy cheap things, including propaganda laden with lies and fiction. The difference between the two is so glaring. While Igboho is struggling to live in the midst of hostile strangers to his homeland, Kanu is flying from one capital to another in chartered aircrafts. Kanu’s is a dual personality, being half-Nigerian and half-British. Igboho does share his native village with anywhere, not even Oyo town or Oyo State capital. One is a native boy while the other is an “international” figure. So, the story goes! Perhaps the most important issue to note particularly by Kanu is that our brothers in the Southeast are the most mobile in Nigeria. More than that they settle easily and are happy to live in other areas, with other people in other climes in Nigeria. They settle down that easily and constitute substantial population in places like Lagos, Ibadan, Kano, Kaduna and most urban areas of our country.

One wonders how their innocent people view the escapades of our man Nnamdi Kanu. By all means, the federal government should safeguard the integrity of our country.

Issues militating against our sovereignty should be avoided or removed. But government needs to tread carefully, not involving innocent Nigerians whose intention is clear, let justice be done but let not the innocent be dragged into injustice.

Over 90 per cent of Kano students, who sat for the qualifying examinations in the state, failed.

The exams gave students the chance or otherwise to be sponsored by the state government to write the SSCE exams.

The result was released just three days before the deadline for the National Examination Council (NECO) registration.

The students are expected to score seven credits, including Mathematics and English to get sponsored by the state government.

However, Daily Trust gathered that the dateline for NECO registration was too short for the students who failed the examination to get the required money to register for the exams.

The registration fees are around N12, 000 to N13, 000.

‘Only six out of 300 passed’

A teacher, who spoke to Daily Trust but declined to mention his name, said only six students passed the exam out of over 300 students in one of the schools.

This, according to him, will result in many of them repeating the class or drop out of school.

“Cases like these are usually what discourage the students to continue with their studies.

“Many of those that failed the exam don’t have money to pay for themselves.

“And instead of them to repeat, they rather abandon the school because they have no certainty in the next year.

“This is what adds to the number of dropouts we have in this region,” the teacher said.

Another teacher said only 60 out of 200 students passed the exam in the school he is working now and that yet not up to 40 out of 140 that failed have paid and registered for the NECO.

According to him, the government released the result very late, adding that many parents could not provide the NECO fee within three or four days.

I’ve given up – Student

A student, Usama Sa’adu, said he had already given up on writing the NECO exam since he did not have the means to pay for it.

“My father cannot pay for me honestly and I don’t have the means to pay for myself.

“So, I don’t know what to do now. All I know is if I didn’t write this exam, I will not go back to school because I don’t know if I will still win next year.

“There is no certainty honestly because the person sitting next to me is not always coming to school but he passed the exam.

“He only comes once or twice a week, while I always attend school. I never missed classes but he passed while I failed,” he complained.

PoliticsFlaskback: Northern Nigeria Encouraged Isaac Boro’s 12-day Revolution –brother, by Youngmaster0(op): 7:17pm On Jun 15, 2021
David Boro, 72, is the younger brother of the late Isaac Boro, who led the struggle for the emancipation of the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. The declaration of the Republic of Biafra in 1967 by Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, which led to the Nigerian Civil War is a story familiar to many Nigerians but arguably, not as many citizens of the country know an independent republic within Nigeria was first declared by Isaac Boro – Niger Delta Republic. The declaration was made on February 23, 1966, shortly after the January 1966 coup. It led to what later became popular as ‘The Twelve-Day Revolution’, as the fight between the Federal Government and Boro and his comrades lasted for 12 days.

He and his comrades were later arrested, tried and sentenced to death by the Aguiyi Ironsi-led military regime. Isaac Boro’s brother, David, tells DANIELS IGONI about the revolution and the unwillingness of the Niger Delta political class to appreciate his sacrifices, among other issues

Did you witness the struggle for the emancipation of the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria, which was started by your elder brother, the late Major Isaac Adaka Boro?

Yes, I did. I was in Class Five in secondary school then. On the day they struck, I mean for what is now known as the 12-Day Revolution in 1966, we were in school – Bishop Dimieari Grammar School, Yenagoa – when we started hearing the sound of dynamite blasts all over. It was terrible. People were running helter-skelter. Later, we saw some uniformed men running into our school compound and everybody took off. They said it was Isaac Boro and I said he was my elder brother.

I waited to be sure it was him. And there he was, leading a group of young men. They were members of the Niger Delta Volunteer Force. He came to tell our principal to close the school because they had declared a Niger Delta Republic and they knew that federal troops would be coming down and there would be exchange of gunfire. So, in order not to expose the schoolchildren to danger, he told the principal to close the school. The principal complied and all of us went home. By the time I got home, everybody had run away. Our father was then a headmaster at Taylor Creek. I didn’t meet anybody. I went into the village and asked where they were, and I was told. I went to meet them. Then some policemen came and we ran into the bush.

Was the Boro family not surprised at his action?
No, we were not. We were not surprised as he had told our father about it. But our father advised him against it and told him to face his studies because he was a student. You know, after the 1963 general election, they took the Federal Government to court to seek its nullification. At that time, he came to tell our father because he was in university. And our father asked how he could imagine that kind of thing. He told him to go and face his studies. But he told our father that he had Eastern Region scholarship and they wanted him to champion the cause for them.
But later, they disappointed him and the Northern Region leadership accepted him because they saw the courage in him. Actually, the 12-Day Revolution did not happen out of the blue. It had the silent consent of the northern Nigerian hierarchy.

As a minority in this part of the country, we had always felt cheated out of our oil wealth. Because we were not many, somebody could come to your land, take your oil and if you talked, they would point a gun at you so you would keep quiet; it’s federal law. If it were a large tribe in Nigeria that had the oil, the law would have been different. But that did not prevent us from agitating. At some point, we thought the Eastern Region was the problem and Isaac Boro went to them but during their interaction, he found out that the Eastern Region was not ready to give Ijaw people a state like the Bayelsa State we have today.

But northern leaders like Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Ahmadu Bello and others were disposed to it. That’s where the alliance between the North and South came from. So, Isaac Boro did not just start the 12-Day Revolution and decide to declare a Niger Delta Republic. There was some degree of encouragement from the North. That’s why the North and the Niger Delta, especially the Ijaw bloc, have been in close alliance all these years. It is just that the new generation of northerners is not aware of the covenant that exists between the North and the Niger Delta people.

PoliticsSouth West Govs Urged To Prioritise Establishment Of Shariah Court by Youngmaster0(op): 9:46am On Apr 03, 2021
By Bola Badmus | Lagos
On Apr 2, 2021

GOVERNORS of states in the South West have been called upon to prioritise the introduction of Shariah court in the zone for a better and crime-free society

A Khadi of the Kwara State Shariah Court of Appeal, Justice Abdurraheem Ahmad Sayi, made the call while speaking at the annual pre-Rammadan lecture of the Muslim community of the Federal Site and Services, Isheri-Olofin, Idimu, Lagos, with the theme ‘Examining the Islamic Will in the Context of Contemporary Legal Challenges’.

The jurist, who is also the Chief Imam of Silver Point Central Mosque, Badore, Ajah, Lagos, argued that states operating the Shariah legal system enjoyed freedom from wrongdoing and crime

“It is important we all put our personal and political interests aside and embrace a system that guarantees an orderly society that everyone would be proud of,” he said.

According to Justice Sayi, things that the Shariah Court stands against are injustice, crime, sexual immorality, corruption, terrorism, domestic violence, cyber crime, among others.

“Any society that takes this as priority is bound to be great and safe for all, irrespective of religious and other differences,” Justice Sayi said.

In another lecture, a legal practitioner, Mr Shakirullah Obale, charged Nigerians to prevent crises from erupting in their homes after their demise.

Obale said it was important for Muslims and other Nigerians to put premium on making a will for unity among their family members during and after their lifetime.

He noted that many families take the issue of will for granted whereas “it is one of the important affairs of our existence as human beings.”

Obale stated that the law of inheritance is very clear about the issue of will in order to avoid controversies upon the death of a person, pointing out that sharing formulas change daily and, therefore, the need to make projections against unforeseen situations.

“It is important to review your will at intervals because it is sacrosanct that even sharing formulas change every day and you must project unplanned circumstances like death of child or unplanned babies and wives after earlier documented will,” he said.

He stressed that in many families, after the demise of the owner of properties, little corrections of the will become serious issues which most times lead to disarray in family which ultimately affects the society.

Obale implored Muslims to prepare for the holy month of Ramadan which is around the corner and thanked members of the Muslim community of the Federal Site and Services, Isheri-Olofin, for organising the programme to refresh their minds.
