Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Mohamed Salah will miss the Champions League semi-final second leg against Barcelona on Tuesday night.


The Egyptian was stretchered off the pitch in the second half of a 3-2 victory over Newcastle for the Reds on Saturday, after suffering a concussion.


He now joins Roberto Firmino on the sidelines ahead of a crucial showdown with the Spanish champions at Anfield, as Klopp has confirmed on Monday morning.


The German boss told a press conference: "Salah cannot play tomorrow. He is better in his recovery, but he can not play tomorrow.
"Precaution? No, it's a concussion, which means he is not allowed to play. He feels OK, but it is not good enough from a medical point of view."


The 26-year-old scored his 22nd Premier League goal of the season against the Magpies, helping Liverpool secure an eighth consecutive domestic victory.


He is now on course to win the Golden Boot for the second successive year and Klopp revealed he will return in time to face Wolves on the final day.


However, Liverpool will now have to cope without two of their main attackers against Barcelona, with Xherdan Shaqiri likely to be drafted in following his impressive cameo at St James' Park.


Georgino Wijnaldum played upfront in Firmino's absence at Camp Nou last week and he could be asked to fill the same role again, but Daniel Sturridge is also an option for Klopp.


The Reds are facing a daunting 3-0 deficit after the first leg, with a Luis Suarez goal and a Lionel Messi double earning the home side a comprehensive win in Spain.


Klopp acknowledges the size of the task facing his side but is hopeful the Anfield crowd can make a huge difference on the night.

"I'd imagine this place will be rocking," he added. "We not only have to score, but we also have to deny Barcelona from scoring.

"We know how big the challenge is. We will try 100%.

"Two of the world's best strikers are not available and we have to score four goals against Barcelona.

"That doesn't make life easy, but we will try. If we can't do it, let's fail in the most beautiful way."

ARSENAL loanee Denis Suarez could end up winning five trophies this season - despite starting just two matches.

The Spaniard joined the Gunners on loan from Barcelona in January and was reunited with former Sevilla boss Unai Emery.

However, despite his limited playing time, Suarez is on track to end the campaign with a hefty medal collection.

Barcelona have already won the Spanish Super Cup and La Liga, although Suarez didn’t feature in the Super Cup win over Sevilla.


And the Catalan side could be set for a remarkable quadruple if they continue their winning run.


Barca are through to the Copa Del Rey final, where they will face Valencia, and they should progress to the Champions League final this week.

Suarez’s remarkable feat comes amid news that:

Unidentified gunmen on Friday hijacked a corpse at Ahoada in Ahoada
East Local Government Area of Rivers State and demanded a ransom of
N1m before it releasing it.


Eye witness account had it that the corpse, which was being conveyed
home for burial by church members, was hijacked along Ahoada road
by bandits, after ordering the driver of the ambulance conveying the
corpse to stop.

The witness said the bandits pulled the corpse from the ambulance and
fled with it inside the bush while the driver of the ambulance was asked
to go.


He said that the news of the tragic drama got to the children of the late
woman, which made one of them to visit the scene, saying that the
deceased’s son never returned home alive.

He said that soon after the son of the deceased got to the scene to
demand for the release of his mother’s corpse, the armed men shot him
dead and dragged his lifeless body into the bush.


He said that someone from the community intervened before the corpse
was release to the church.
“The family had hired an ambulance with which it was conveying the
remains of the woman home for burial. On the way, this group of armed
men, decked in flowing white robe but armed with AK-47 riffles,
waylaid the ambulance, took the casket hostage, demanding for
N1,000,000 from the bereaved’s family for its release.


“They ordered the ambulance driver to “vanish” with his vehicle, and the
man gladly fled the scene,” the witness said.
He said that soon after the corpse was released and sermon for the
burial commenced at the community church, the congregation were
informed of impending cultists’ attack which made the entire
congregation to fled and abandoned the corpse.


When contacted, Rivers State Police Command’s Public Relation
Officer, Nnamdi Omoni said he was not aware of the incident.
He said he would contact the DPO of Ahoada Police Division to get
information about the incident.

Champions League: Supercomputer tips Juventus to beat Barcelona to UEFA Champions League title

Italian League giants Juventus have been tipped by a supercomputer to Barcelona and lift this season's UEFA Champions League title on June 1, 2019.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo, on Saturday, April 6, ruled that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ademola Adeleke, is qualified to contest as governor of Osun state.

The ruling thus nullified an earlier judgement of a lower court which disqualified the governorship candidate of the PDP in the 2018 election in Osun on the basis of his certificates.
:
Television Continental reports that the ruling of the appeal court reaffirmed Adeleke’s qualification and eligibility to contest the office of the governor of the state as earlier delivered by a high court in Osogbo.
:
According to the report, the high court in Osogbo had ruled that the governor is qualified having been educated up to secondary school level.
:
Not satisfied with the ruling, the petitioners had headed to the appeal.
It was learnt that the appeal court dismissed the petitioners’ claim on three grounds including that the court had no jurisdiction to hear the case.
:
The second ground on which the case was dismissed was that the petitioner has no locus standi to file the case and third was that the matter was brought to court outside the stipulated 14 days after the conduct of the primary.

The Rivers State Deputy Governorship Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) , Chief Akpo Bomba Yeeh has withdrawn from the 2019 Rivers State Governorship Election , defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP).

Addressing journalists at his home in Port Harcourt on Monday, Chief Yeeh said the reason for his decision is for him to join hands with Governor Wike to move Rivers State forward.

He said: “After due consultations with my immediate family, friends and supporters, I Chief Akpo Bomba Yeeh, the Deputy Governorship of the AAC for the 2019 Governorship election hereby resign my membership of the AAC and announce my defection to the PDP to join hands with Governor Wike to move the state forward “.

He added: “I was the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the AAC in Rivers State up till today 25th March, 2019 , when I decided to withdraw my candidature and resign from the party with immediate effect.

“The March 9 , Governorship election in Rivers State has been lost and won; lost by my party, African Action Congress (AAC) and its Candidate, Engineer Biokpomabo Awara and undoubtedly and overwhelmingly won by the Governor of Rivers State, the candidate of PDP, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike “.

He said that despite the interference of the security agencies, Rivers people stood their ground and voted for Governor Wike.
He said: “The collated results further showed that contrary to the false claim of fictitious lead by the AAC/APC alliance, the PDP overwhelmingly won all the elections in 18 out of the 19 LGAs, culminating in the declaration and return of the party 26 House of Assembly Constituencies by the Constituency Returning Officers.

“This fact was confirmed on the 13th of March 2019, when INEC stated, as a matter of fact, that it had in it’s safe custody collated results for 17 Local Government Areas as well as the declaration of the PDP Candidates for 21 State Constituencies.

“The outcome of the elections on March 9, 2019 clearly showed the preference of the people of Rivers State. Even the blind can see and the deaf can hear the echo that Rivers people overwhelmingly voted to stick with Governor Wike for the next four years to encourage him to continue with the good works”.

The Former Deputy Governorship Candidate of the AAC informed that the Minister of Transportation forced him to sign an un-dated letter of resignation to be effective after their expected inauguration.

“I was forced to sign an un-dated letter of resignation as the Deputy Governor of Rivers State to pave way for Rotimi Amaechi to nominate another person as Deputy Governor.

“These were slavish conditions for any rational politician worth his name to accept, but I pretended to play along because doing otherwise at that time would have been too dangerous for the safety of my life, given Rotimi Amaechi’s desperation to remove Governor Wike from office and install his stooge in the person of Engr Awara against all odds”.

He said that though the AAC Campaign was never serious and never campaigned for the office of the position of Governor of Rivers State, Amaechi during the adoption of the party, said that he would fund the elections and do everything under the sun to give AAC victory at the polls.

He said: “Amaechi disclosed to us that he had already assembled security personnel drawn from the Nigerian Army, the Police, DSS and FSARS to provide adequate security cover and enablement for members of the AAC and APC to effectively rig the Governorship election and have us declared as winners on March 9 , 2019”.
