Hello all....EH hopefuls...the news is that some senior staffs are disgruntled about employing those who do not grow in the system from scratch to now enter Midway and sometimes get to boss them who have been in the system.one told me 2 weeks ago that the recruitment has been scrapped that previous EHs who do not really understand the system has ruined it in time past, another one told me today again giving the first reason..I know it's all speculations because there's a gap between ss5 and ss3,presently no ss5 in the system the ss4s are moving to ss3 by dis year, hence there will be no ss4 in the system as such, except the ones that probably have grown from the JS Level who would be old by now.
There was rumour on all the SBUs to collate their contract workers and forward to Abuja according to business needs which either signifies a conversion want to take place, but i am hearing again that it's on hold..bit what I do know is that some persons want to be compensated and the remaining available slots which is the EH is under severe contention...
[b]No source,b] I know some persons in one of the SBUs I'm always there pushing my hustle.. info's fly
EH hopeful...

Well done, you're doing well

I am a COREN registered and i registered through the NSE route ,those who attended last year COREN assembly should be aware of this. The normal route is to pass through NSE and not through the direct COREN route. But for sometime now the direct COREN window has been opened.

You are saying a different thing. Anyone who is registered knows about these routes. I registered through the NSE route too. The simple argument was whether COREN now requires master's before Engineers could Abe registered and I have shared the current requirements for registration according to COREN website which prooved false.

It can't be , you have to look at what it takes to become a COREN registered ,the lastest in COREN and will kick off 2021 ,you must have HND ,PGD and masters before you can go for COREN registration. It's your academic qualifications that qualifies you for COREN and NSE not the other way round.

This is another twist I'm hearing. This is not true pls! Your first degree with min 4yrs practicing experience is what COREN requires

*start writing Jamb, not ‘started’.

Are you sure you belong to this EH category

The cut off mark for UI at the time was 200. My Masters and PhD are 4 years apart. I have 6 years working experience. I’ll leave you with the math.

By your analogy, it means you couldn’t get admitted in any southern university, hence your choice of ABU. Which also means you’re not bright.
Sigh, I’ve just been wasting my breath afterall!

#Out

This guy, you are a funny dude. You should go revised your English Concord again. Try and check the proximity rule again. For your information, I schooled at the University of Benin for my first degree. It was master's I went to do at ABU because I live and work in Abuja. And pls don't twist issues. ABU is a great school.

Down south you mean. The south is geographically lower.

Let me give you a short answer; southern universities hardly admit northerners. But northern universities do. I had 249 jamb score years back when jamb was jamb and I’d put UI first choice and ABU second choice. UI flat refused me admission while ABU said why did I put them second. Lol. I lost out that year.

Your experience is probably little that’s why you zones down to universities with reference to the wandering thing. I am talking life in general.

Anyway, nice conversing.

Wish us all the best with NNPC. Peace

You are just deluding yourself, no insult intended. What do you mean by southern university hardly admit northerners. What year did you graduate or started writing jamb? How can you be boastful of a jamb score or 249? So you think a jamb score of 249 would place among the best scoring students? grin you just confirmed all we have been saying. The standard is really low there. For your info, before you consider yourself to be among the best in jamb for any of the school's in the south, you should be looking at scores of 270 and above.

Haha insults at last, typical!

Going to the N/East from Kano you follow Wudil, Gaya, Jama’are, Azare, Potiskum up to Maiduguri. This is a standard dual lane please.

Peace!

And those roads are state or federal roads? What are you really saying Mr?

Some of them only traveled to Abuja for the first time when they were invited for NNPC interview.
They are completely clueless about the actual vastness of this country.
I was travelling to the N/East from Kano some few years back and I was expected to contribute to a discussion on a certain Whatsapp group with many of my friends/colleagues from the south. So I quickly did a 5-6 secs video to show that I was driving and the whole topic changed... “so you people have good dual lanes like this in the North?” Because I have traveled the South too, I completely understood their shock.
I put a picture of Maiduguri (Lagos Street) at night and people kept swearing I was out of the country, I am not even kidding. Those who know, know! There are mega schools in Maiduguri where kids are given free bicycles to go to school. Yes, that same Maiduguri that the only thing you hear about is insurgency. How can you ever know any of these if you don’t TRAVEL??
When they go to Kano they be wondering if that’s the same Kano they always hear about. But some of their brothers have lived there all their lives but they’ll never tell them what the true situation.

You’ll be shocked at the number of Yobe indigenes with a PhD, very young guys. An awful lot of them have been drafted in the present state administration silently making their contributions towards growing their state and gaining a good head start at the game of politics.

Nasir El-Rufai is even smarter than the rest. He has, through his Kashim Ibrahim Foundation, rallied sound minded young northerners across all disciplines, home and abroad to coach them on governance and attached them in his government.

Make una dey der dey shout, we are coming ehn!

What exactly, if I may ask, are the governors in the South doing? No roads to show except for what the Federal Govt is doing. One was busy building statues of foreigners in his state. Another was brandishing cutlass on live TV threatening to kill people of opposition with it, and you tell me he’s a lawyer by training. If you go to some states in the south you’d swear there hasn’t been governance for long. If you see some of the roads down there..! The second niger bridge, Something of 1.6km, no one from that region could champion the delivery of that project, with all the federal allocations and 13 percent derivations of neighbouring states, until a northerner came through. Yet, at the slightest instance.. insults!

It is well!

Dual carriage way my foot. I served in Bauchi and I already told you I did a programme at ABU. You really have got nothing to say. The political class in the north are the worse ever. It is sad you are publicly hailing the ostensibly. It appears you guys in the north are just too docile.smh

You can as well tell us the quality of your ABU degree if you’ll at least be honest.
Malpractice? Come on, really? Even the ones with the white face and pink noses cheat in exams. It happens the world over.
“You guys don’t get exposed beyond your”. This is a very ignorant statement I must say. The average northerner is a wanderer. We move for agriculture. We move for trade. We move for many reasons and we find solace in the little experiences life dishes us along the way. Lagosians will will educate you better on this fact. Personally, I have just few states that I haven’t been to in this country and I truly appreciate the diversity. If there’s anyone unassuming and trusting to a fault, it is a northerner, only that he can be lazy and have a lackadaisical attitude. If you truly went to ABU you should be able to confirm this.
Religion is an important part of our heritage and if you’re angry about that, it’s your cup of tea. Do yours I do mine brother. grin

The average northerner is a wanderer my foot. I have given you a typical example. From Kogi state up south, go check all the institutions and tell us the population of northerners in them. Also the reverse and testify.

There are a lot of highly intelligent people from the north as well a lot of illiterate and unexposed persons. Most people complaining here have not even been to the north before. I'm from the north, kaduna in particular...one of the best scientist Nigeria has ever produced Prof Andrew Nok, came from same the place with me.

This is where I get really uncomfortable having this conversation with you guys from the north. Even there are people who exceptionally intelligent in the north, it doesn't remove the fact that in the overall, there is an educational problem in the north compared to the south. Don't you guys see the details of waec and neco results released every year? Or should we talk about the outrageous cutoff marks given to northerners to get into any of the unity schools? What you are now talking about doesn't bother on quota system. It is the corruption in our system where people get jobs through connection and not because they are the best in their state. If federal character and merit is been followed judiciously, competent people will be hired. I have seen countless situations where those with poor grades are hired from a state because they have connection while the intelligent once from those state are denied the opportunity. So in that situation, you may tend to think that people from such state are not qualified without knowing that the qualified once were denied the opportunity because they don't know anyone

We are know that what we refer to as quota system is actually corruption. I actually believe there are extremely intelligent northerners and corrupt system also does not give them opportunity.

Bros... Whether you like it or not, this advanced countries give opportunities to their own citizens first before considering any outsider. But you don't see it that way because they have manage to create several opportunities far greater than their citizens can take up and because of their desire to keep leading in terms of the technology and innovations, they invite intellectuals from other parts of the world to come in.

Abroad countries don't do incompetence. The criteria has always been to find a citizen who can do the job before considering a foreigner. This is different from the quota system we practice here.

[s][/s]Even in abroad, they practice quota system. Before they give you any opportunity, they ensure that they didn't find none of their citizens worthy of it even if you out perform them.[s][/s] Secondly even if there is no quota system and the competition is left for those in the south alone, I can assure you that sooner or later there will be clamor for it to be brought back because some few state in the south that are educationally ahead will grab all the opportunities while some will not. So how will that foster unity. The truth is there are intelligent people everywhere, the only difference is that due to our history, the south embraced education earlier than the north due to cultural and religious factors. This is why the literacy level in the south is higher than in the north. So to ensure equity, the best from each region should be given opportunities to grow. You might be surprise that a 2.1 graduate from the north might even be better than you with first class from the south if giving similar exposure. It is something I have seen countless time

This is a false analogy pls! The quota system we practice here is about putting round pegs in square holes.

I am not a northerner but I feel the decision by Buhari is right. So long as the northerners that were chosen are intelligent minds also. Not only the south have intelligent people they also reside in the north too. Every major group should be represented just for the sake of peace. Here you are wanting all southerners to be chosen for the sake of merit. Now if the president had chosen all northerners in the name of merit, what will be the reaction of every southerner? All southerners will be crying about how Buhari wants to northernize the country. Considering the nature of nigeria, the principle of federal character representation is what is still giving us a semblance of sanity and its currently more important than merit so long as all the candidates are of similar IQ. Jonathan that was trying to push all southerners for such scholarship is the one in the wrong as the principle of federal character is even enshrined in our constitution

You northerners like arguing back and forth. The origin of this argument was as a result of some you trying to make point the north is not educationally backwards and your schools provide better education bla bla bla. Even when we know that the average kid in the south is required to perform more the twice better than an average northerner to secure a place into any of the federal unity schools. This guy's post which I shared is very clear. Imagine if after the aptitude test we did with NNPC, we got our results immediately; I doubt anyone would be peddling rumours as to any irregularities in the recruitment process. This was the case with the PRESSID scholarship. They got their results immediately after clicking the "submit" button in the exam hall. This is what is called merit based selection process. There is no way any selection process would take place in Nigeria that would produce only northerners; if it is done by merit. You guys should just accept that the quota system is just in Nigeria to accommodate northerners. The sad part is that you guys have refused to improve in all developmental indices. Before now, it was the southwest and perhaps southeast that dominated the academia and technical professionals. The south-south were seen as militants. But truth be told, we in the south-south have improved tremendously. We are not clamouring for any quota system to compete.

I'm sure if we do a research why most of our government institutions are failing, it might not be unrelated to the population of northerners who are there as a result of quota system. Just see Magu and corruptionvirus sorry, coronavirus grin

Some of the evils of quota system

In 2014, I and several other Nigerian University graduates had been shortlisted to write the Presidential Special Scholarship (PRESSID) designed exclusively for First Class Nigerian graduates who wanted to pursue both Masters and PhD in any top 25 Universities in the world. President Goodluck Jonathan had set the scheme up and the idea was to build a strong team of brilliant Nigerians who will come back to serve the country years later.

There were a little above one thousand of us who wrote the exam at CHAMS, Abuja. At the time, I was already lecturing in UNN so most of my friends (who were also my colleagues) enrolled. 16 of us in total. It was a computer-based test so we knew our fate instantly. I had scored 94% in the exam. In fact, 15 of us from UNN scored between 80 and 97%. Man! We came out of the exam hall completely joyous. We were so sure we had got the scholarship. And we were right. Sometime in February 2015, the list of 101 successful candidates was shortlisted in the National Dailies. Fifteen of us were on that list. I had applied to Princeton University, Imperial College London and University of Toronto already. That phase of our lives was glorious.

Fast forward to March 2015, Goodluck lost the elections to Mr. Buhari. That was where things started to take a new turn. Shortly after Mr Buhari was sworn in, he had recalled the list and complained that there was no single northerner on it. He believed it was an agenda of the South. Right before our eyes, meritocracy was shortchanged for Federal character. It was first like a joke, but we all lost that huge scholarship. It was worth about $250,000 per person (tuition and living expenses inclusive across 5 years). Before then I had little faith in the country but when this happened, I became weary of the country.

Thankfully, later that year, I got a full scholarship from University of Toronto for my Masters and PhD (6 years in total). Of those other 14 friends of mine, 13 of them have also moved since then - US, Canada, UK, New Zealand, Japan etc. Obviously we moved on but truth is, the life we have now was afforded to us by the Government of another country, many of which will seduce you with permanent residency and citizenship afterwards.

Any nation that shortchanges merit for anything else will fall. Nigeria has the brightest people, yet, we are where we are (in Osibanjo's voice).
These people will corroborate my story as they were also winners of the PRESSID scholarship

These people will corroborate my story as they were also winners of the PRESSID scholarship: Odoeze Jideofor Okagu Ogadimma Olikagu Sylvia Chisom Hyacinth Ali David Chukwuma Izuogu Samuel Olisa Chima Eke and others.

Sad!
