Hi. Is there any chance for approval without medical? Does getting a request to pick up passport mean a refusal if no medical was done? Application had been on since 1st week of June

As regards this driver's license issue. I am inclined to believe that if you have the frsc biometric license and that is the license thay has expired and you are renewing it, your date of 1st issue would not change on the renewed license. So, this means that your driving experience is retained. I think that it's when the old Nigerian non-biometric license is renewed and a new biometric license is issued that the date of 1st issue changes.
Everyone I know who has renewed their expired biometric license has the date of 1st issue unchanged. If anyone has a different experience, please share. See photo attached. Looping Newmum0615
So about this issue, I've been driving in Nigeria previously with the a license i believe was fake. I got the biometric one last year November and also got a letter for it from frsc and it has only information about this license.

Given that its less than a year since it was issued, is there any chance i can get the waiver to move straight to G after my G1 test? Also, when filling the form, would it be okay to fill my years of experience from when i started driving(with the fake license) and not just from the issue date on the license.

Please for people that applied via paper route, how do you know when you have a medical request? Tracking an application through the vfs page with the cala number and it just shows application is being processed.

Hello guys,

Please I have a question regarding obtaining drivers license in Ontario. So I have the original Nigerian drivers license issued in November 2017 and also got a letter from frsc to authenticate it before coming here in may. My question is, with this license and letter, can I skip g2 stage and go straight to G?

@ballerz and the other gurus on this topic, kindly help.

Thanks

Hi guys,

So i landed in Toronto a couple of weeks back. Landing experience was smooth. No much questions. I was done in about 20minutes. I was only asked how much I'm coming in with, they didn't request to see it. Asked the food stuff I came with. And then asked me for an address to send my PR card to.

So it was very smooth. Went down and picked up my luggage. And I was off.

Flight was with Egypt air. I've not been on any other international flight so I can't really compare the service, but I'd say it was okay. Flight is long as hell. Slept, stood, watched movie, slept again. But once I began to see my destination from the plane, my eyes popped wide open.

As regards job search, I cannot thank God enough for the opportunities He has given me in finding a job on time. Because as with everyone else, it was a big worry for me. I began my search from home. I used freetone app as stated by others here. My experience from Nigeria is in banking. I explored switching to IT but I figured it'll be a bit difficult to do that immediately without experience. So I decided to continue my search in where I have experience as advised by some here and move on from there. I had a number of interviews over the phone from Nigeria and continued to in person interview when I arrived. Thankfully I've been able to secure a role within a couple of weeks of arriving here. So it does help to start on time, don't rule yourself out of any role, give the employer the option available to you and hear what they say.

Having said that, is there a group for Nigerians in Toronto? It can get boring here when you don't have much friends so if anyone is around North York/Etobicoke/Mississauga, holla! I wouldnt mind a meet up.

Hi guys,

Long time no chat. Some of you might remember this my post below.... Anyway long story short, I got precisely what I was targeting barely 2 months after I arrived in Canada. No Canadian experience or education at all! I did not even apply, they found me on LinkedIn, sent me a message and the application process went on from there.

I got two graduate jobs on the same day but I chose the one that pays far less because it had been my target since I was in Naija and I know it would make far more sense in my resume when i decide to move in the near future.

This is just to motivate someone who might be feeling down about job search or thinking he has to compromise and do something he doesn’t want to. No, you don’t have to if u don’t want to! Have a plan and stick to that plan whilst also trying to improve yourself.

Maybe some other time I can write full gist on the interview process, how I was improving myself when I arrived, my preparation methods, etc.

Wish you all the very best!
Would also be nice to share the full gist with us. Busy schedule now I know. But it would be nice to have this insight ..

Hello everyone.

Please what program can a graduate of Physiology (third class) and pgd industrial microbiology go for in Canada that would be in line with these courses. Bearing in mind for visa purposes there has to be a correlation.

Also, can a person with a pgd from Nigeria get admission for masters directly?

Hello guys,

So I have visited the Acces employment website, but i cannot seem to find a way to register for a connections program. Can this happen only when I land and visit their office in person or what?

Also, what do you guys think of the Humber college bridging program for IT. Like ive said before, I'm currently in banking but I want to go back IT which is what I studied in school. Would this program be of help? Here's a link to the program http://newtocanada.humber.ca/bridging-programs/mobile.html

Hi,

I apologize for the delayed response, I barely come on NL these days. Coming from someone who was in your situation, I think I am experienced to respond to your question. I am a PR and my wife lived in Nigeria, she applied and was denied visiting visa twice in Nigeria. First, in 2014 she applied to come she me she was denied. In 2015 she applied to come visit her husband in Canada, she was denied again. LOL

Splitting the cost or been the sole financier of her trip would suffice. However, there is a VERY high likelihood that the visa would be denied. You have to prove beyond reasonable doubt that your fiancee will return to Nigeria after her trip. Long distance is hard, most times couple say they will go back but end up not going. If you don't know, if your fiancee comes to Canada and you guys get married here. She can remain in Canada after marriage and you can sponsor her inland whenever you guys are ready. Example: If she enters Canada in 2018 an overstays her visit visa, no matter how long she remains she is still eligible for PR if you decide to sponsor her inland. No matter how long she has been out of status for.

My advise: wait until you guys are legally married then send in a PR app through Accra. If you cannot wait you can try the TRV route but I would advise that you say she is the sole financier of the trip and include all financial documents to back your claim. I am so looking forward to knowing how your app goes.

Goodluck!
Thank you for this response.

I actually know about the option of us getting married and me sponsoring her from Canada. But my concern with that is the time it takes for it to get approved. I've heard it could take up to a year. If I land in Canada, while she's still here, and we get married in Nigeria. It would be so difficult to leave your wife and go back to Canada. That's why I'm looking for an alternative.

I have gotten PPR and have sent in my passport.

What option did you take after the visit applications got denied?

You are absolutely right with respect to different style of managing... I have noticed this in the several training and courses I have been attending online.

It is advisable to get involved with all these pre-arrival settlement programs months before your arrival in Canada. They are extremely helpful... It cannot be overemphasized. I feel extra prepared for the Canadian workforce while understanding the culture diversity and also knowledge of how to communicate and interact with colleagues in the work environment. Also learning how to handle problems and situations that require urgent solutions in the Canadian work environment at a supervisory level... This is building my critical thinking skills...

Some of these training come with Canadian recognized certificates which gives you an edge as a new comer... You can add them on your CV... There are ALL FREE... paid for by the Canadian Government.

Congrats again @freeradical
Please can you recommend some of these programs? I just got my ppr and have sent my passport. I can start preparing now.

I'll suggest you take a diploma in the area of IT you are interested in. Make sure your program has a co-op module. In the mean time you can take customer service job with telecoms and banks. RBC customer service pays well.
Thanks for the response. Will start looking out for courses in IT Business Analysis/Intelligence with coop option. If you know any good one I'd appreciate your recommendation.

Hello guys!

So I got my ppr at the beginning of the week and now I can properly join the group. Here's a bit of my profile as I would be needing advice on how to change career paths back to IT.

First degree: IT
Experience: Banking - funds transfer, customer service.
Certification: CCNA(expired though)

Pls what steps can I take to get back into the IT field. Any bridging program I can partake in? Certifications to get before landing that could get my foot in the door.

I am PR of Canada, I invited my younger sister. Her TRV was approved today at 7am Nigerian time. Hope this helps someone. The documents listed below are all she included, nothing more, nothing less.

Profile
Online Application Sent = June 14th, 2017
Bio-metrics Done = June 16th, 2017
Passport Request = September 26, 2017
Applicant Age = 25yrs
Applicant Marital Status = Single
Visa's on Passport prior to application = USA, India, South Africa & Dubai.
Visa denials prior to application = Denied Schenghen Visa 4 times. This was discussed on the application form

Documents Submitted
1) Employment letter from Company (Worked same company for 4yrs)
2) Paystub for 6months (Monthly salary of 190,000 naira)
3) Current Account statement for 6 months (Balance of 10,000 naira. I submitted this sothat the VO can see the salary inflow)
4) Savings account statement (Balance of 1.9m naira)
5) Letter of invitation from me (I told the Visa Officer that she will be passing through America before coming to Canada and she will be solely responsible for her expenses)

In annoyance, I sent an email to Accra, with the title: "Disappointed Client- Ridiculous" and cc'd Minister Hussen Ahmed (Honorable Mister of IRCC) - The email was sent on Friday Sept 22.

Hope the timeline helps someone.

Good luck guys.
Hi.

I've got some questions based on your post. If a PR intends to sponsor his fiancee to come to Canada on a visitors visa, can he expressly state the cost of the trip will be borne by him? Or the cost will be shared between the two parties as the case may be?

I'm aware there's a program for people to sponsor their spouses to come over to Canada permanently but from what I gather this process takes a lot of time. So getting a visitors visa and doing the process from there might be a faster option.

Please I need your candid advice on this. Any other person with info regarding this can chip in.

Thanks

Good question.

That's the rave of the moment field in IT. Companies want to make informed decision based on the analysis of the big data they have within the organisation.

The role of the data analyst is to analyse such data and present to managament to help them know which product line to close down and which to channel their resources to for profit optimization.

That's the technology facebook deploys to tell you which of your posts has the highest number of likes. There are known tools to do the analysis for you. My Inlaw who is an IT person and knows how crazy i was about ITSEC showed me a demo on how data is analysed using a dummy data from the product he markets in Nigeria and told me that i have to think about this field as it is emerging and there are opportunities in it. That did not disuade me from my ITSEC dream.

I had always wanted to do a masters in ITSEC but I am not sure anymore having been on ground and studied the market here. I am having a rethink.

The good thing is that you dont have to have an IT background to do well in this field. Finance, Statistics, Mathematics people are also in it. Once you have analytical skills, you are good to go. You also have to have presentation skills like powerpoint and be a super user of excel to thrive in this field.

Lets see how it goes.
How about cloud computing? How in demand are people with Amazon Web Services certification? Is it worth going into and investing in the Solutions Architect Associate certification?
